Thank you bro, I appreciate your prompt reply and help.
By the way before posting here I had gone into my original 2.1 hero back up
which was damn slow/laggy but the ##775# code did not work nor did the manual update
function. That's why I asked here for another way of updating my PRL.
Now reading the wealth of information in the link from your sig!!!
Will keep you posted.
God bless
You can also try some of the custom prls that oostah posted some of them work and some dont its just trial and error.

Try using the rom fresh 2.4. It still has the use of dialer codes. I have changed my prl multiple times using this rom. I like playing around with different combinations thanks to bierce bringing so many prl's to my attention.

Thanks A lot!!!
Can you please give me a link for the one you used, Also some people mentioned
if you flash older rom, update your PRL and restore your back up the PRL goes
back to what you had on your back up is that true?
No prl sticks while flashing or restoring roms it is below the data level that is erased. Here is the link http://geekfor.me/new-release/fresh-hero-240/
Download from the mirror link on that page the link above it doesn't work anymore.

I will try that bro, Thank You.
I wanted to ask you that I see your sig says aospcmod 2.3.4
I was meaning to try it, I am very happy with CM7.03 no reboots ever and
also everything works fine so far. How does AOSPCmod compares to CM7?
Pros & cons.
From your post I updated my latest Sprint radio to Verizon Desire radio.
So far things look good but its too soon to give a verdict on that.
I am going to try and update my PRL tomorrow.
Update on my progress!!!
First of all I would like to thank Bierce22 & rb3 again for their help.
I installed Fresh and updated my PRL to 01115 painlessly.
I have not noticed any different in the signal strength yet but
its too soon to say something for sure since its only been a day.

Ok so I'm new to moding. I have a Sprint Hero. I went to the sprint store and they updated me to the official 2.1 update. My question is can I still mod my phone even if I have the new 2.1 soft ware? And if not, is there a way to go back to 1.5 ? and if so , how do I even do that ? is there a tutorial around here to show me how to start doing this? Yes im a tech but this is not my filed. Can someone point me in the right direction.
Can't do anything yet to an official 2.1. Sorry give it some time

If you search here on xda for the guide to rooting you will find one, however, I think this one gives you a little more info and is super easy to follow. Btw, this one uses the same method.
http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-sprint-hero/38911-guide-root-rom-faq-tutorial.html
Also, there is an auto rooter out there called Fresh Kitchen found at geekfor.me which is pretty cool.. it's made specifically for the Sprint HTC Hero based on 1.5. I used it to root my phone and it work flawlessly and it's pretty much painless... once it's rooted, from what I can tell, you can pretty much try out various roms from the different devs that are out there. The main thing is, you may have to wipe your phone when you change to different roms.. geekfor.me/category/android15/ is link for the auto rooter.. you have to download it and run it on your pc then connect your phone via usb cable.. he has video tutorials on the website to help..
so now that sprint officially released there update.... 2.1 software number 2.27.651.5 i can no loner put roms on my phone! i found multiple firmware but it wont install and when i go into recovery mode.... i get a phone with (!) idk what that means.... has anyone been having this problem or is there a thread for this already! thanks
No Root, No Rom.
You loaded a Sprint update, or sprint did it for you...either way. No Root yet, you are SOL.
Ideally you would have done some research first, but I don't know if you had that option....
That town hall meeting thread is making me not be a butt head.....darn you EGZ.
well thanks ill guess i gotta wait!

Keep your eyes peeled to this thread as it seems to be the most constructive conversation on the topic. Till then, we'll be waiting for you on the other side.
So how did the rooting go any luck
Hi everyone,
I have the Samsung Galaxy s Captivate and I want to upgrade it from 2.1 to froyo 2.2. I understand that ATT has not release it. However, I found this thread and froyo is leaked for everyone.
Here is the thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=797282
I was wondering if I need to be rooted in order to do this. If so, what is the most easy and most efficient way of doing it? I also want to get rid of all the ATT bloatware, I hear there is a great rom that gets rid of it.
Thanks for listening I can’t wait for your replies.
Michael.
Hello Michael,
The answer to all of your questions and more are in the thread you linked, including difficulties other people have had and sometimes their resolutions.
Good luck!
You found the thread you need to read. Go through it, even if it does take you about an hour to do. You need to read that way you know where information is on how to fix your phone if anything goes wrong. Everything you do on your phone is at your own risk.
Basically just flash using the one click ODIN for the JI6 build.
One important note is to remove the USB as soon as it reboots because otherwise you can face issues with it becoming stuck in airplane mode. I don't know why exactly but it happened to me and to others.
If you haven't flashed using Odin yet, search for the Odin3 thread. That will give you the steps to use the one click Odin.

Well, I only link the download and flash for it. The link provides no explanation on how to flash or install froyo.

Did you do a master clear when you flashed to stock?
After i flashed to stock i flashed to stock i did not do a master clear i just rooted it again. But when i try to restore the apps it says i need to check the box to allow third party apps. Well obviously the captivate doesn't have that option

Then the Guys abouve me are right. No side loading is not enabled by default. ATT disables it. But there are many ways to get it done. Just do a search for enable sideloading. You will find your answers.

1. there is a video
2. launch the application and it will ALL be clear.....there is a BUTTON that says 'Allow Non Market Apps'
if you would bother to actually try to use the app you would have seen that....there was a reason we were pointing you to that application. 2 seconds of having it open and you would have seen it.
You could also try the thread here:

This has worked for some (me included) where others have failed. You just have to keep trying to find the solution that will work for you. I used to have to find these programs before I finally took the plunge and installed a custom Rom, the devs take care of all of that for you. In case you're interested, Andromeda3 works great!

mirrors are just more servers hosting the same file... a mirror of the other host so you can get the file from more than one location
This morning i decided to install a new Rom on my HTC hero. I found this ROm called sensible gingerbread it is new and i really like it, but i can't send MMS or receive them! can anyone help me with this?
Did you try reinstalling a sense base ROM and send/receive a couple of texts? Usually that fixes it up, then restore back to your previous ROM.
