[Q] usb keyboard with case - A7 Accessories

I purchased the case with imbedded keyboard and initially the kb worked great. However, now I can't get it to function at all. Have tried playing around with settings etc., but no go. Anyone having success or probs with this keyboard? Thanks,
ooorah

Have you tried restarting the A7? (fully power down, not just lock the screen)

I read the users manual (available on-line) and they clearly state that the USB port only has support for USB flash drives.
2.3 Connecting USB Devices
With the USB 2.0 host port, you can connect USB flash drives to your
Tablet to access external files. The Tablet supports drives up to 64GB in
size. Please note that some older USB 1.1 devices may have
compatibility issues.
The Tablet supports flash memory drives only; it does not support other
mechanical drives
The other way to connect a keyboard is via bluetooth. Again, the A7+ supports limited Bluetooth connectivity:
Bluetooth Device Requirements
The A7+ Tablet officially supports only A2DP Bluetooth devices with
stereo audio capability. Mono devices such as cell phone speakers and
earpieces are not compatible.
Important Note: The A7+ does have limited Bluetooth compatibility with
certain Mac computers and other assorted peripheral devices, but it does
not support printers, scanners, bar code readers or most other peripheral
devices even though the Tablet will detect and “pair” with such devices.
The necessary “connection” can only be made with proper drivers. Until
hardware manufacturers of these devices create the necessary drivers to
support both Android and the Tegra
This information is from the latest version of the owners manual dated March 2012. I'm afraid that you're out of luck unless you upgrade the operating system.

[Q] cannot connect to USB Honda car radio

Hi everyone,
I have a 2010 Honda Insight model with a USB compatible car radio.
I have owned other phones and the car radio supports iPhone 3G, Nexus One and an ordinary USB flash drive.
However a Samsung Galaxy S it does want to recognize. It says first USB LOAD and later UNSUPPORTED on the display.
I have tried several methods on the phone after USB is plugged in: click on home button after MTP connect screen appears, put USB in debug mode and choose to connect drive after USB dialog appears.
Does not work with and without external SD.
Is it the MTP background process that bothers the car radio?
Or it does not support drives which are partioned into several filesystems. The first filesystem is FAT32. But why the Nexus One is supported?
Any clues are very welcome!
not sure but this is my guess.
the MTP is not what the car is expecting. It expects a mass storage usb-drive. In settings you will find usb-options. There you can set it to be recognised as a mass storage device instead.
By some odd reason you also have to pull down the infoscreen and click usb, and then click mount
thanks for your help
in my phone i dont have settings to choose MTP vs MSC (mass storage device).
I did choose in info screen for mass storage device and I connected, but the car radio did not want to recognize.
How can I kill the mtp background process? What is the process name?
i have the same problem with my 2009 Civic Si
I tried all of the usb modes, with debugging on and off for each. still no luck.
insteads of USB, use bluetooth
for usb to work, you need to mount the drive, and make it run as a mass storage device
Is there any other solution for a car without Bluetooth?
I also have a Honda Civic with the USB audio and a Galaxy S Captivate phone. Every connect method I've tried so far fails. Has anyone gotten this to work? My car doesn't have Bluetooth.
Any help is appreciated. I am welcome to solutions that include rooting and loading a different ROM.
I have the same problem on Honda stereo... Is it possible to update the care stereo itself? Maybe someone could develope this into a ROM?
I a have a Samsung Vibrant and a 2010 Honda Civic LX. I used a "Dynex - Microphone Headset for Select Music Mobile Phones" Model: DX-MP3MA SKU: 9535327 (from Best Buy) and attached that to my phone. Then I attached a "Dynex 3' 3.5 mm stereo Audio Cable" Model: DX-MP353B SKU: 8915178 to the "Aux" input underneath the "Lighter". It worked PERFECTLY! It also works perfectly when attached to a Yamaha Home Theater System that was made to be compatible with iPhones/iPods. I used the input for "Portable." I hope this helps!
Obviously I attached both cables to one another.
In fact I am listening to Pandora (using Samsung Vibrant) connected to my Yamaha Home Theater right now and it sounds awesome.

If you buy the equipment from Best Buy, you can always return it.
promet, in theory that won't have the same audio quality as connecting the car stereo to the SGS via USB as a USB storage device.
this is a solution i got working on pretty much all types of car stereos

Unfortunately this did not work with my AVH-5200bt . It charged, but wouldn't mount!
Anyone have another possible solution? Pretty much the only use I have for my ipod is hooking it up to my stereo lol.
Hey all,
I've been having the same problem on my Samsung Galaxy II LTE (almost identical to the "Skyrocket" from AT&T) in my 2010 Honda Civic USB.
For what it's worth, I've managed to get it at least partially working.
I used "Multi Mount SD-Card" (you can find it in Android Market/Google Play, requires root unfortunately) and tried enabling only one SD card to be mounted at a time.
For whatever reason, it works fine if I only share the the internal storage, but not if I share my 32GB external card. Both music folders are identical, so I don't know if it has a problem with the card being used, the size of it, or if I need to low-level format it, etc (hence another round of troubleshooting next week).
So, I've sorta gotten it working, but not the way I want it to be working. I hope this helps someone.

[Q] hardware keyboard needed either bluetooth or usb wired

I'm looki addon keyboard either bluetooth (HID profile) or standard
usb qwerty keyboard adapted with usb a m usb to usb micro-b 5pin
male. if the port can't provide enough power I can add a self-powered
usb hub (upto 2A 5vdc).
I'm not sure which bluetooth profile incredible prvides in froyo.
My problem is my fingures are too big for for softkeyboard,
an dn it doesn't come with a stylus.
Anyone know if its possible to use a 'real' or bluetooth keyboard
with Froyo Incredible?
Thnks
Bluetooth Keyboard
I just saw this in a Mobile Crunch article describing a bluetooth keyboard earlier this week. (Mobile Crunch Article)
The product page states it will be available in 2011...its definitely a good idea, pending it works as good as we all hope it will! (Product Page)
I don't know about usb hid, but bluetooth hid is definitely not supported on an incredible stock rom.. rooted or not.
no usb, but maybe BT
The port on the USB is the wrong end so I am thinking it will not work, but I wonder if BT serial ??? My stereo in the car transfers phone book data and controlls the phone and media player stuff so I bet with the correct drivers it could work.
Found Freedom Pro SPP/HID that should work
http://www.freedominput.com/freedom-accessories/freedom-pro-keyboard
It's a dual mode SPP and HID, I talked to them, they provide a driver
for the Android so it can talk SPP and still be an HID device to the OS.
Mine is supposed to arrive monday, I'll test and report results.
I am hoping you had good results last Monday with the keyboard. How did it go?
Freedom Pro bluetooth keyboard does work, (at least with Virtuous 3.0.1).
I set the keyboard to SPP mode, and powered it on, paperclip poked its
button to get into pairing mode. It paired fine, code 0000.
Once in paired but not connected mode. I went to their website (on the phones browser)
to download the driver file. http://www.otadrivers.com. After install
I setup the driver in settings following the guide on their website. It worked after that.
I have stock rom.
Has anyone use this on htc sense stock?

Connecting Fire to Ethernet with adapter

Hi I recently purchased online a micro-USB to RJ45 Ethernet adapter with a 3 port USB hub like these. It was insanely cheap so I thought why not. Reviews said in most cases it was plug and play, however, I am unable to get the ethernet to work. No network icon appears in the upper right and there does not seem to be any options for a network connection. The USB ports work and it was fun watching a mouse appear and an external keyboard work immediately upon plugin. They provided a driver CD and I sideloaded all the files (85mb) onto the Fire - Pictures folder. How do I install the drivers to get the ethernet to work?
Note: Using ES File Explorer I went to Network>LAN> tapped on Scan but nothing was found.
A side question is, does anyone know how to access the 'USB computer connection' menu (where it gives you the option of selecting 'Media device' MPT or 'Camera' PTP) in settings without plugging it into a PC via USB ie. from the settings menu?
Thanks
WXsky
Doubt there is a USB to RJ45 driver driver for this device as it was never intended to work with a wired network connection. As for your other question I don't believe that menu is available on non-rooted FireOS unless a tether has been established (and then only via notification).
Apparently it wasn't intended to work with an external keyboard or mouse but this adapter made it so it could. When I plug it into the Fire it gets power as indicated by a greenish yellow light. When I plug it into the ethernet cable another light appears and it is red so that means I have connectivity, just no driver installed I'm guessing.
Could anyone else weigh in on this please? I need a bit more than just a glib "No". As I mentioned I have the drivers. They were provided on a mini disc. How do I install them? Not totally familiar with Android or other Linux devices however I've dabbled with Ubuntu but nothing on these confounded tablets.

Just because you have a mini-disk does not mean the contents will work with this device or FireOS. I have yet to see an Android device support an Ethernet adapter via OTG; a brief Google search suggests it may be possible with a few select adapters and devices. Aside from driver both kernel and ROM (FireOS) must cooperate to secure the connection. Unlikely Amazon would include that intentionally leaving it to the underlying version of Android (5.1.1) to manage the interface. Given the complexities of establishing/maintaining an Ethernet data connection me thinks you have a project on your hands. Good luck.

Samsung dex

Hi all. I preordered the note 8 and here in Croatia as a gift I'm getting the dex station. So I'm thinking of buying all the dex peripherals before it arrives so I'm ready to use it when it finally does arrive. I'm going to be connecting dex to my tv so I'm going to get a wireless mouse and wireless keyboard. But my question is since both the mouse and keyboard use Bluetooth and i know Bluetooth 5.0 can connect 2 things at a time will I still be able t9 connect a 3rd device (Bluetooth earpiece because I think if someone calls me when I'm using dex it will be kinda easier to use an earpiece) or another phone to my note 8 to transfer files?
Would really appreciate any help. Thanks
Just use wireless keyboard and mouse instead of Bluetooth. There are two USB ports one for thumb drive or other usb devices and the other for mouse and keyboard...then no issue with Bluetooth.
Is there a benefit to bluetooth mouse and keyboard? Or do you have plans for both usb ports?
I am going to try an external optical drive to see if it can read disks.
Is there a mouse/keyboard combo that uses one bluetooth connection?
Tnx for your answer. I'm not really an expert in these things so I kinda overlooked the fact that I can connect the mouse wirelessly without Bluetooth. I'm getting this mouse https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Any...g=androidcentralb-20&ascsubtag=UUacUdUnU61031
And this keyboard
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00X5P8BJO/?tag=androidcentralb-20&ascsubtag=UUacUdUnU61031
Seems the keyboard has to use Bluetooth though. Have you checked if Bluetooth 5.0 really works with 2 devices at the same time on the s8/+?
I have been reading something that it doesn't because android itself doesn't support It?
Also do you know if its possible to connect an external hard disc to dex? Tnx
First of all, DeX is a brilliant device and does exactly what is supposed to do!
Second, in order to get Note8 connected to DeX you NEED to power the station ONLY with the original power unit which came with Note8! No other charger will work with DeX!
Third: in order to use an external USB stick/ HDD / SSD, you NEED to install inside the Note8 an application. This app is Total Commander (the legendary one done for Win 95 and used further even as FTP standalone on each and every Windows version). However, to get the above external device to use it, you will NEED a plugin for Total Commander - the so-called Microsoft exFAT/NTFS for USB mounter! This comes with a price and has several options, see below:
• Microsoft NTFS: $4.99
• Microsoft exFAT: $5.99 (*for non-TV devices only)
• HFS+: $4.99 (OSX format)
• FAT32: $4.99
• All file system support pack: $9.99
Gplay LINK
The above is the ONLY method to get an external device working with DeX.
Fourth: I would suggest to use a wired mouse, not a BT one! And a keyboard can also be used with Android interface (same as a windows 7 for example - is a screen keyboard).

But you are 6 months too late...
Sent from my Note 8 using XDA Labs
I use a Bluetooth keyboard(logitech), Bluetooth mouse (Microsoft) and Bluetooth headphones (Marshall) with DeX and they work well, no connection issues whatsoever, so you should be able to connect more than 2 Bluetooth devices without any issues (SM-N950F)

HDMI via USB-C

From a 4-Port-KVM-switch I have a spare port available. So I tried to connect my M5 lite to the PC monitor, mouse and keyboard to work as usual when I am at home. Unfortunately none of the my port-replicators with USB-C port worked for that configuraton. I tried several HDMI MHD apps, where each of them told me, that the M5 lite is capable of MHD and HDMI. The monitor display at the end of the cable stays black. For testing purposes to avoid issues reasoned by the KVM switch I also connected the monitor directly to the M5 iite - no success.
Did I miss something? Is a port replicator with additional (unknown) functionality required to share the display output via HDMI cable to a TV or PC monitor? Does ist require additional drivers?
Ah ... 431 revision, still running the unpatched 8.0.0.256. Have heard, that GSI ROMs will not work on EMUI with 9.1.x.y, but will be open for messages from someone who succeeded.
Any ideas appreciated to get the hardware based solution working. I do not want to use some kind of Wifi- or BT-based casting mechanism. Tnx a lot in advance!

No idea about this problem, been using miracast to cast the screen since is a little bit more convenient. doubt this tablet will get android 9. like, it barely got 5 months left and it reaches the two year deadline from the moment it launched. and since is a global epidemic.... this tablet will only have security updates. not even a chance at android 9.
