AOSP 2.2.1 Install Time - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just installed AOSP 2.2.1 on my dad's Hero, it's been on the blue android screen for about 15 minutes now. Is that typical? (I'm guessing no)
I have a captivate, I think mine hasn't taken this long for a new ROM in the past.
I'm just wanting to make sure it's not on some infinite boot loop
Thanks

15 minutes is kind of slow... but, you never know. Has it resolved yet or still there?

I onced flashed a rom and it took about 20 minutes.

G1 Semi-Rebooting on its own !!!

Hi,
I have JF 1.51 and its been running pretty well for a long time now. untill today when I was on the phone and it suddenly semi--rebooted, what I mean by that is it didnt go all the way back to the T-Mobile G1 screen, but only to the android screen and it doesnt stay their for a long time only for a couple of seconds and then the phone is operational again !! it only takes about 10-15 sec. from Android screen to fully operational with a network signal !
Happened three times already, and I havent installed any new apps that could have made this !
My only guess is overheating? I checked the bat. temp. the first time and it was around 42 C so i thought it could have overheated since I was charging and talking at the same time. But then the second time I was at 32 C when it started rebooting, but it was also charging.
So Any ideas ?

Sounds like a Kernal oops. Wipe and re-flash, you should be fine.
Ouch!! Cummon man.....their gotta be something else I can do besides a wipe!!
I just wiped and reflashed about a week ago because my SD got corrupted, and doing it all over again now......is really a pain in the ass
format your sd card then wipe and reflash. It should not corrupt your sd card. I suggest flashing the cyanogen recovery image 1.3.1 because it will make your life 10x simpler...
Good luck

Thanx guys for the replies.......im reflashing now, the situation got out of hand the rebooting started happening more and more untill the phone got unusable. it reboots eveyr min now. So yea I got no other option.
Thanx again, and yea im trying with the Cyanogen image.

[Q] Random shutdowns with Cognition 2.2b5.5, 6, 7

Experiencing random shutdowns ever since moving to Congnition. This morning, just to clean everything out, I did an Odin Master Clear and used Odin to flash Cognition 2.2b6. About an hour later, I had my first random shutdown.
This doesn't appear to be totally random. It only occurs when the phone is in screenlock mode, such as when it's in my pocket or sitting unused on my desk. I will go grab the phone to turn on the screen, and realize that it is shut off. So, I have to long hold it to boot it back up again.
Is anyone else experiencing this issue with Cognition? It seems to occur about once an hour for me, and sometimes it will go hours without shutting down. Also, it never appears to shutdown when I'm using it, but maybe that's just by chance.
Any other ideas how I could fix this? I've already Master Cleared. Could it be an app that doesn't play well? The only apps I've installed so far is Launcher Pro, Beautiful Widget and Titanium Backup, of course.
Are you serious??????? You open a thread just to ask this question?? Why not ask in the Cognition thread?!!!!

Because it has a trillion posts and my question would be swallowed up in about three minutes.
Same here but i dont think its cognition its the froyo leak. It was happening to me with the stock leak too so i know its not cog. If u think it is try the stock leak. But id wait to see if it still happens after offical build.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
I had them on Stock ROM but havent had any since installing Beta 6 or 7.

I would use Odin One Click and go back to stock for a few days and see what happens.
If your restoring with Titanium Backup, don't restore settings.
bet you don't get a solution before they lock this thread
No random shut downs here on either cog 2.2 beta 5 or beta 6

+1 b5.5,b6,b7 No shutdowns. Had them all the time on 2.1 JF6.
my random shutdown issue STOPPED as soon as I started running Cognition ROMS. DG was a lifesaver for my phone.
If your having them.. keep it on stock - if it repeats - you have a dud and need to get it replaced.
And when you flash it to stock.. don't load anything on it to see if it stops the random shutdown.
**edt... and um wth is this in the dev forum and not the Q&A?
Try this if you havent
No problems here either. I have been with Cog since the beginning and have never had this problem. I had it on another ROM from another Dev and immediately came back to Cog. I am now running Cog 2.2 Beta 7 and Love it! Fastest phone I have ever owned, very stable and GPS finally works!!! I would recommend flashing back to stock with Odin, doing a master clear and then installing Cog beta 7 via Rom Manager. I dont deal with Odin when flashing ROM's, only when going stock.
Hope this helps!
hey... i thought i was the only one getting the random shutdowns. i think i've been getting it since the first month of owning my phone. i get it 2-3 times a day. 1 if i'm lucky. i don't blame it on cognition's rom, tho... dunno what to do or who to ask about this problem.
but as for flashing back to stock and then the latest COG rom, i have tried that, but it didn't work...
I haven't run Cog beta7 for very long, but I can tell you I've never had a random shutdown for the entire time I've owned my phone (bought 3 days after release).
I'm tempted to tell you to try a different battery or something of that nature...

i would agree swapping the phones battery or the whole thing would be the way to go...
This is not an unusual issue. Seems even Moto apologized for it in their Froyo OTA for the Droid. Moto says a fix is coming. I would suspect it is a Froyo bug and something that will be worked out in a future update for all Froyo handsets.
No random shutdowns for me on stock leaked of any of the 2.2 cognitions
I've been having random shutdowns on Stock 2.1 Eclair for a while, there was another thread poster about this in the Q&A.
Even after I flashed to cognition b5.5, I get them, and with the same frequency. Sometimes I get 2 or 3 a day if I'm extremely unlucky, usually I'll only get one like once a week. I don't really find it to be too big of an annoyance.
I think it has something to do with an app, and not the phone itself. If you're getting them consistently 2-3 times a day then I guess you should just master clear, go back to plain stock, and then reflash cognition if you want to.
PEBCAC problem

PEBCAC problem "me thinks".
Its device specific, I had one that did it, they gave me a new one.

That definitely seems to be the case. I had a Captivate that was running JF6 that was completely stock other than being rooted. It started randomly shutting down within a couple of days. I thought it could be an issue with rooting it, so I flashed back to stock and used it like that for a few days. The random shutdown issue didn't go away, so I took my phone back and told them it was defective. They gave me another one and I haven't had the shutdown issue even once, through JF6, JH7, JI6, and Cognition 2.2 Beta 6 and now Beta 7.

Emcryption Unsuccesful

Hey guys
Need Some help here
I own a yr and a half old Galaxy S I900,Until 6 months back i was still stuck on froyo (2.2)..Never bothered to upgrade my phone as i was happy and satisfied with froyo itself. But 1 evening when i went to sleep,i kept my phone right next to my hand and when i woke up,it was on the ground switched off..Restarted it and to my surprise all my contacts and all the apps and settings were gone, the only things remaining were the images and music/videos.I thought it was a s/w problem so instead of reinstalling froyo i would bite the bullet and switch to ICS itself and skip gingerbread entirely.
So i came to this forum and started reading up on stuff and contacted a few people asking for help,a few responded and guided me through installing CWM and then i installed The Dark Knight rom..it was good for upto 4 months.1 day the battery completely drained off,i tried charging it.Tried starting the phone,it wouldnt do that at all, tried a lot of things but it dint work, qouldnt switch on at all.so i went to recovery and reinstalled the rom.installation went smooth in CWM but when it was supposed to go to the place where we select the Language,it came "ENCRYPTION UNSUCCESSFUL",RESET PHONE.so i did that but again it booted up to that screen, after 3-4 times doing the same thing,it went to the screen with the language, selected it and finished setup, but after a week or so it suddenly restarted again and again that same bloody page " Encrypttion unsuccessful".Now i thought there was something wrong with the rom,so upgraded to the latest dark knight rom.again the same problem..
Now thinking i had to try out a new ROM,i shifted to cyanogen rom..worked for a few days but again today that same page booted up.I sincerely dont know what to do now.If anyone could help me i would be really grateful.

[Q] Back from the dead!

2 months ago I was installing a CM nightly and something went wrong (I think it was incompatible versions of CM & gapps) and the main result was I had no keyboard access. No amount of attempts to correct this were successful at the time. Things just seemed to be going from bad to worse quickly. Failing all else I picked some option for system restore (I can't recollect what at this point) and got a screen that it was downloading the OS (I presumed the default Samsung OS for the phone but I have no way of knowing) It just stayed on that screen for hours. (possibly because I was off my data plan at the time. I've heard (too late) that some upgrades require it). Since it was getting nowhere I powered down the only way I could... taking out the battery. Then nothing. No boot screen, no recovery, nothing. For over 2 months. Last night I charged it figuring I'd give it one more shot before tossing it in the recycler. Then it boots up! WTH? I'm so happy!!!
But my problem remains what it was prior to going dead... no keyboard and erratic behavior (in particular the back button rarely activates. It will vibrate when pressed but not DO anything)
Baseband= N7000UUBKK2
kernel ver. 3.064-CM-gb07657a
CM ver. 10.2-20130824-nightly-n7000
build number cm_n7000-userdebug 4.3 JSS15Q
gapps-jb-201308-signed.zip
So I've been given a second chance to do it right. What can I do to fix this? Any suggestions would be much appreciated even if it involves moving back to unrooted stock OS and firmware.
Thanks in advance,
A.D.
P.S. I will be getting my data plan back if I can get this working right. Wish me luck.
First an foremost then update - and do a full wipe before. If you still want CM 10.2 then just go for it, but you can also try out KitKat (OmniROM - original development)

Jumping Screen After Nougat

Hi all,
I am completely running out of things to try and do now.
After installing Android 7 on my Note 5 I had the strangest issue that i in general have never seen on a phone. The screen is simply black (which isnt that strange) and the phone is fully functional. Bare with me, after reseting it multiple times so it would finally come on the screen goes crazy and turns goes into so many colours (if it turns on that is). Its either that or jumps all around the phone, quite literally it glitches out completely. Its like one of those virus cut scenes you see in movies, it goes different colours, glitches out, jumps around and completely misformats.
From the beginning i knew this was not a broken screen.
So far i have tried.
1. Factory reseting the phone. That gave me about 5 minutes of normal use until i locked the phone and it wouldnt unlock again.
2. Factrory reseting multiple times... again to no avail, it would work for short periods of time and glitch out again.
3. Reflashing stock Android 7 in Odin. - No avail.
4. Flashing Dr.Kretans Rom... worked for 1 day which made me so happy and think that the problem was solved but then the same problem persisted.
5. Installing Arters Kernel.. (arter97-kernel-n920cig-22.0) Nothing... literally did that today and still NOTHING
6. Re partitioning. Quickest process and no avail.
In more detail, if the phone does sucessfully boot, and bare in mind sometimes it takes more than 2 hours to get ANYTHING on the screen (including recovery which doesnt boot up either until the initial apperance of something on the screen)
I tried taking the phone to a phone shop before doing anything myself and since in England this phone was never released theyre refusing to touch it. I tried calling samsung and they dont want to do anything either cause its not a UK variant.
Could someone please tell me anything else i can try. I feel like im totally running out of options here.
My phone details are as follow
Galaxy Note 5
SM-920I Singapore Singtel Variant
Running on 6.01 (i downgraded from Kretan)
And the kernel is the one previously mentioned v.22.0
I would appreciate anyone's help or suggestions so much at this point. All these problems started since the 7.0 update a few weeks back :/
Oh its also running TWRP recovery (arter97-recovery-n920cig-22.0-twrp_3.0.2-0.tar)
