Ive been a close follower to the Serendipity ROM and is super stoked bout version 7 that was just released! But because I have not posted anything in this forum because I usually find my answer just by searching, I cannot post in the thread dedicated to Serendipity 7 until I have some posts. I was wondering if MikeyMike01 and the Serendipity crew had any plans on adapting and creating the software and hardware of the Samsung Captivate to support HDMI output through the microusb? Thanks for anyones help!
I could and may be wrong, but i think HDMI OUT is a hardware thing and that we are not able to fix that by flashing software. We have TV out, but i know it lacks full HD support for transferring to a larger screen.
There is or was a micro-usb to HDMI cable supposedly available.

I have no doubt there is a micro USB HDMI cable that is available and will probably fit the captivate.. but will it work? as the captivate does not have HDMI functionality.

this has been discussed to death in the accessories section. cables are available, phone's hardware cant support video signal out thru usb port
hmmm.... thank you all for your replies. I saw a discussion about a year ago but i dont remember if anyone said they ever tried creating a ROM or other means that would make it capable. If anyone regularly talks to MikeyMike01 about Serendipity or the other developers (Sorry for those of you I am leaving un-named. Some reason this name is the only one I can remember.) could someone direct him this way? thanks!
Hey everyone my curiosity was struck again... After going through some forums about new ROM's for the captivate, and after trying several and stopping on the awesome Doc's Master ICS for the cappy, I have noticed some people have stated they use the micro usb cable to hdmi on the samsung captivate... I have ordered a micro usb to hdmi cable because I have the spare time and will try some of these ROMs some people have stated the cable works on. I will post back my findings probably around the beginning of next week and keeping my fingers crossed that something good will come from this...
Order Arrived!
My usb to hdmi arrived and its samsungs version. I will start trying some different ROMs for the cappy and post if i find any that work. I have a feeling this is going to be an unsuccessful quest but hey, it doesn't hurt to try it out.

Has anyone used one of these and do you think it would work with the NC? Not having bluetooth (at least for the moment, maybe it can be enabled) is a downer for a tablet but a google search showed that they are on the market. Im wondering if that could be used as an input solution.

I think lots of folks are waiting for CM6 which might unlock the NC bluetooth stack offering mouse, wiimote, and keyboard goodness with it.

I'm hoping. CM6 enabled Bluetooth keyboard and wiimote on my phone, which didn't work on the stock system.

Did this hope ever get realized? From what I can tell cm6 came out Dec.6.
I'm trying to get either a bt or usb keyboard working on Nook color
good idea: do a teardown
Sorry, didn't do enough reading. Part of the cm6 references are requests to tear down the device to see its bt and usb otg capabilities:
From the donation thread:

I STRONGLY SUPPORT ka6sox's need to tear a nook color down for analysis to the remove chips from the board level (this is called "salting" a board... I have no idea why, perhaps because like putting salt on a slug, it's dead when you're done.)
Here are some things we need hardware teardown to identify....
Bluetooth is enabled or disabled by putting +V on a pin on the UNDERSIDE of the wl1230 chip. No way to tell if BT is enabled without a teardown.
USB chip on the board is capable of USB master and USB otg mode, however the correct strapping of the voltage regulators supporting that chip can not be identified from above.
The extra pins on the USB connector the NC uses dissappear into the inside of the board, there is no way to ensure that they are MERELY power connectors.
FM Radio is enabled with +v on a pin just as the BT is. Again requiring a teardown.
There may be jtag pads available near the CPU, this would allow devs to have serial access to the CPU during boot to develop custom kernels, at the present time, there is NO CONSOLE during boot. This would help. Again, no way to identify them without teardown.
it is possible that an fm antenna can be easily attached to a test pad. But we won't know until we know if the fm output is DIRECTED to a test pad.
there's more, but that alone justifies ripping a nook color to bits.
Eugenekay has agreed to buy a board for this purpose if the community agrees it's a good use of funds, and ka6sox is uniquly qualified to do it, since he's done it before...

So the consensus seams to be that it isn't feasible for now, but might be in the future?
It would certainly be nice if it were, I'm planning on starting some college courses this spring and would love to be able to do quick note taking without having to lug around(not to mention the extra cost) another netbook or something similar. I'm just not fast enough with the software keyboard to keep up with a lecture.
PS- for those of us who are new here, what is CM6?
It is custom ROM that could be flashed on your nook in the future.

Please don't mention the Bluetooth possibilities. Until they salt that board, I just can't handle the stress of thinking about it. Just typing this part of the post makes my fingers tremble. I know, I probably need help.

Dealextreme.com has a foldable bluetooth keybard that folds into a package about the size of two iPhones 4s stacked. They're asking a little less than$ 70.
Does anyone know if the dock support mirroring now that we're on honeycomb? I know it didn't prior to the upgrade. I'd love to know. If not, what does it support, and would it be possible for any developer to write a video driver that would at least allow switching to hdmi (I have a broken screen, but still use my streak a lot with bluetooth keyboard/mouse).
51 views and no replies? Does anyone have the HDMI dock? It appears that the net has not 1 single review of the HDMI dock after the recent OS upgrade.

I'm using honeystreak r8 and just got a dock and get nothing? It charges and triggers "dock mode" my monitor has input sense & see something at the end of the cable (tried 2 different ones does this need a "data hdmi"?) but no hdmi from any app (stage. cam. various vid players, no dell sync) no usb, not even a failed usb install, any ideas on how to fix this?
I am running the same (r8). My docks hdmi works fine. Perhaps trying another TV or monitor will work. I use 2 different tv's and cables and I have not had that issue.

Looks like the connection to the dock was/is iffy I assumed the "doink" meant it was good to go, but then noticed it was "connected" but not charging.I've been testing with a video from the camera choosing "video" as the player but don't get any hdmi popup (should I) and I can tell it's getting something cause the resolution changes on the tv but no vid?
It just connects, there is no toast message or such.

I am on cm10.1 and am mirroring just fine on my 52" Samsung with full screen. If you aren't getting video and or charging? Its something wrong with your pdmi port when you dock the streak. Broken pin? Something in either side of the connection?

Is mirroring native on 10.1 or are you running an app to do it?
I dock and it it displays on the tv after a few seconds

Dude.... this device never had source code released and the strives that have been made in development are incredible considering the low number of knowledgeable people doing all the work from scratch.
I suggest you go buy a newer device with a wider range of development. Otherwise try to contribute to the streak development rather than complain that you can't find a perfect fit for your needs.
Stick withhoneycomb if you can't cope with certain variables and bugs. My dock worked on honeycomb for charging and hdmi output.
I don't mean to sound like a dyck, but you don't realize how you sound expecting everything to work perfectly and I have been following the progress of the development and offering help where I can from using and providing user feedback. It's not like I have made any type of major contribution, but I know the geniuses toiling over code for hours on end to resolve issues and bugs and sharing their work for the benefit of us don't appreciate comments that come across as whining or being ungrateful.... just try to hear yourself, my 2 cents
Giveens work can be found here and on tabletroms.com
Good luck

Well excuse me, I'm the kind of dyck who likes my s h i t to actually work, sorry if I didn't sacrifice enough blood and sweat over the "streak" , considering I'd never heard of it till last week, and never would have if my carrier wasn't dumping cmda for gsm. But next time I'll be sure and check with you before I post in an existing thread on the exact issue I'm try to fix, I have to take a dump now if that's ok with you??

Dude, relax
You say you are running honeystreak, which has been dead for quite a while and had its set of quirks. It is a custom ROM. You are wanting everything to work? = you want stock!!!
Go rock honeycomb. You own a device that officially lost support from the manufacturer in 2011. End of story.
You could even go back to froyo and have a "fully functioning ROM". Read some stuff, then read more. And start off with the XDA rules... learn the appropriate place to ask your question (this thread is not relevant to development and/or particular to an actively developed ROM)
Mods: please lock this thread.
Scottfree1: your question has been answered. Sorry if you are butt hurt, it was not my intention to upset ya. I hope dropping that deuce helped out a bit.
Dock works fine for users on stock honeycomb. Good luck

Sorry didn't mean to get so bent, it was three in the morning and I was frustrated, turns out it was the pdmi connector which seems to be dissolving before my very eyes, looking left to right it gets thinner and thinner to the point I don't think the whole thing is even there. I eventually got it working, but if a butterfly in africa flaps its wings ist kaput. I know people but a lot of effort into these things, and when I list what versions I've tried it is not an insult it's just to eliminate have tried so and so ??'s thanks for everyone's help..
Hi all, Just a quick question to all of you using tablets these days. First I just got nexus 7 for my b'day and now im on the market for .... everything. I would like to know if you guys experienced some issues with log me in on your tablet. What are best ways to use and utilise the tablet. Also another question is a cable, can i use MHL or Micro HDMI cable with this tablet or is that a no-no? If so would the same cable work with my GNex? What apps would you recommend and generally anything related to this. Any input suggestion or, in the end, discussion is welcomed.
Edit#2 can you connect USB drives or sticks to it, if so how?

MHL/HDMI is a nono yes. The only way I'm aware of it being done is through a Raspberry Pi, you may aswell forget about that now
I wouldn't use LogMeIn to be honest, take a look at SplashTop HD
Finally, you need a USB-OTG (on the go), then a normal memory stick/usb hard drive. Download an App called StickMount(Rooted) or Nexus Media Importer (Non-Rooted) and away you go.
PS - Welcome to the best little tablet !

Thanks for such a quick reply! Shame that there is no MHL capabilities. I sort of need log me in for work purpouses. I tried on the phone and the app worked flawlessly but on the baled graphic was gone and frankly speaking unusable.
USB OTG just plug it it, than my stick, run my app and off it works?
Can i connect keyboard and mouse same way?
Cheers

Nice install there. You mentioned audio thumb issues in your videos. You could use a dcdc usb. Can't post link, google it You can set it up so that power cuts out somewhat earlier or later so you won't have that thumb. Having simular issues atm, still need to order one too

Hi guys,
I know nexus carputers have been used often and they are a great way to use a tablet, the only thing I haven't seen is an example of someone using multiple accessories. I am looking to use about 3 or 4 accessories...
- dvb-t stick for usb TV and dab aerial
- usb capture card for reverse parking camera
- usb extension for usb drive connectivity
- something else I have forgotten right now lol
Had anyone actually tried to achieve more with their nexus for this type of connectivity, whether got the cat or not?
Not new to android but I am to this level of use and hacking.
To confirm I M using timur usb rom kernel, a y splitter otg, 4 port usb extension with individual Pott switches.
Admin, I appreciate this is similar to my other thread but this is more a poll of seeing what others do, but if you believe it is classed as a double thread I apologise.
