Hey all,
I have Froyo 2.2 on my N1...anyone know why my bluetooth headset crackles and is really fuzzy sounding? Sounds like they are underwater sometime...I even tried a new bluetooth headset with same problem...any ideas? Thanks.

which FroYo ROM, and which kernel.
mine does the exact same, its not just you its probably a froyo issue.
ok so i was bored and did some tests, it seems it only happens to me when trying to send audio via bluetooth when playing a flash video, reg music and videos are no problem.
I also have same problem, but on CM 5.0.X (Android 2.1). I tried Motorola S9-HD (stereo) and Nokia HS-56W (mono). Every time connect the headset and the phone is very close (20-30 cm), the sound is fine, but as soon as the phone is to push further, the sound is choppy and stutters. And this happens on any headset.
is WiFi on or off?
WiFi and bluetooth operate on same frequency band and can cause issues.
i have wi-fi on and bluetooth on.
switch WiFi off and try.

I switched off Wi-Fi and connect Motorola S9-HD and it really workes. A will try today use more and write late about it.
Same problem here with Froyo.
I turned Wifi off and the sound problems went away.
I think is a hardware problem or design problem because I used to use the same headset (Motorola H-710) with an iPhone and never had this problem even with Wifi switched on.
Would be any way to get rid of this problem?, it really bothers me to turn off the Wifi every time I get a phone call.
Thanks
its a problem with flash, not bluetooth, adobe should fix it soon
Thank you for the suggestion I will be sure to try that tomorrow!
I have kernal 2.6.32.9-27220-g328f560 android build apa26 #1
Build number is frf50
I hear this is a test version of Froyo anyway...I don't think the real Froyo has been released yet? So maybe it will be fixed...thank you.
After two days of tests, with switched off Wi-Fi, it turned out that the problem does not disappear completely. Correctly identify the reason for failed. Since stuttering occurred on different songs (that is, perhaps, that stuttering is dependent on the bitrate), I sometimes felt that the problem with lowering the frequency of the processor in sleep mode, and it is not enough to encode mp3 and transfer data via Bluetooth.
Still bad with OTA
I got the froyo OTA for my stock N1 yesterday morning.
I can confirm that the distorted sound is present on the phone application only when wifi is turned on and you are using bluetooth. At first I thought it was only when wifi was on but not connected but it appears that you can get the distortion on a phone call whenever wifi is turned on.
All entertainment application seem to work fine with my A2DP bluetooth. Again it only seems to be bluetooth phone calls and wifi turned on. Believe me this is bad enough. This didn't happen on 2.1 and if it weren't so much hassle I'd probably go back.
Hopefully someone will come up with a workaround that will allow bluetooth calls and wifi turned on at the same time. Gees, if it weren't so basic
This just drives me nuts that Google makes major changes to parts of the OS, then doesn't think to actually TEST everything they changed. This would easily been detected if they actually tried it out. Duh.
I have the FRF91 update and all the blutooth distortions are GONE.

I updated from stock via the OTA to FRF91 and thats actually when the distortions showed up on mine? Well its good to know that there is hope but now I am wondering what possibly may be different between mine and yours?
Can anyone else tell us how their bluetooth is doing on FRF91?
Does anyone think a froyo factory data reset is worth trying?
i've paired a few things (bt headset, parrot car hands free, computer) but it won't automatically connect to anything. i have to manually tell it to connect. is there a setting that i'm overlooking, or a tweak to allow this?
thanks.
Yeah I noticed the same thing in the car today. Maybe because of whether it is discoverable or not? When you turn that on it only does 120secs. I haven't played with it, but i sure hope it can auto connect, or at least with froyo.
It auto-connects to my car, but not to my home phone. I think that's because the car itself initializes the connection... Would be nice to figure out how to fix this, so I wouldn't have to connect manually every time I come home.

In my 10' BMW, I had to check mark to always allow the car to access my contacts. Once I did that, it would automatically connect to my car upon startup of the car.
Hope that helps.

in my '10 Genesis Coupe, I cannot get it to auto connect, even though i reset it two times and checked "always allow." This is the first phone this has ever happened with, every other one auto connected (HTC Touch Pro2 with winmo 6.5 AND a hacked android 2.0, htc hero w/ 2.0 and 2.1, n1 w/ 2.1 and 2.2, and a feature samsung phone) so I know its not the car.
Any more ideas?
What I figured out is that auto-connect on this phone just doesn't seem to work at all. The only time it auto-connects is to my 06 Acura when I start it and only if it's not already connected to anything else. But that's because when I start my car, it's the car that initiates a connection, not the phone. If I'm connected to something else (like my home phone, for example), when I start my car, and drive off, Bluetooth connection to my home phone will get dropped after I get away for more than 100 feet, but it will never connect to my car after that. And it never connects to my home phone on it's own. Very painful!:-(
My Captivate will automatically connect to my Parrot hands free device when I get into the car. I don't know which device is pushing the connection. However, I also have a Miccus BluBridge Receiver in my car plugged into the Aux jack. This device doesn't auto connect.
To get things working I have to go to the home screen, settings, wireless, blue tooth, then click on the device. A friend of mine was talking about Tasker as a possible app to use, but I don't really want to spend the money on it until I know it will do what I want. The other annoyance I have is that speaker, headset, and bluetooth volume are all the same. It looked like Tasker would solve my second problem, but perhaps not my first. Has anyone else investigated this?
Bluetooth auto connect
I too thought I had an issue with this. Mine is now working OK most of the time. One thing I discovered is that if there is more than one BT device available the phone sometimes will not connect automatically.
I wonder if this has to do with the fact that it will not connect to more than one device at a time. This is big downside for me that I hope get corrected (but please GPS first)
It won't conect correctly because there is no setting for always visible. The handsfree device searches for your phone to initiate the conection and if it can't see it it won't try to conect.

I also have a Genesis Coupe 2010 (3.8 in case you care) and my vibrant connects just as well as my TouchPro2 and my Nexus One running Foyo.
The Nexus One stock 2.1 never worked, reconnecting every couple of minutes.
My first Vibrant (same as captivate) did not work well either. I expected it was because the BT stack in Eclair did not support car profile, but after I exchanged my Vibrant due to a rattling volume key, it has worked very reliably with the GC'10. It autoconnects ad soon as I turn on the engine, without having to do anythong, followed by "transfer complete".
I leave BT on all the time. My phone is not rooted or modifief in any way, running stock software for everything.

That is not true and it is not necessary, not even during pairing, ad the connection is initiated by the phone. Once passkeys are echanged, visibility is not required.

What firmware do you have on your GC? Have you deleted all phones?
Things to try:
Delete all phones from the car (setup/delete all phones)
Restore the phone to factory settings.
Upgrade the car's radio/BT firmware (see dealership for details or try gencoupe.com)
Call ATT support (?)
Wait for froyo
Get used to
Return/sell the phone
Hope this helps

I am a tech for mercedes and we have to set the phone to always visible or it wont auto connect. It is the same way with pioneer bt radios. I am just speaking from what mercedes told us and personal experience with pairing phones. I have had the problem probobly 100 plus times at work where phones wont auto connect evan though they are paired corectly and when you change the phone to always visible it fixes it every time. I know the phone can initiate the conection, i just know they don't all do it automatically.

Never had the problem with any of the Pioneer radios we've had, and my Eclipse doesn't have that problem either. To be fair, I've no experience with MB cars, but that shouldn't be the case.
I know with my Eclipse HU, I had to initiate the connection while in the phone menu otherwise it would connect for BT audio but not for the phone. After setting up the phone it will connect as its supposed to regardless of what input I'm using.
just as an update to my initial problem... my parrot system in my car auto pairs all the time now (it just takes ~30-45 sec to do so), but the phone still will not auto pair to bt headset or computer...
I don't think its supposed to auto connect to the computer. I think its a need based connection.
And on that note, when i send a file my phone does connect. I don't use a dedicated bt headset so i can't talk about that unfortunately.

When you say 30~45 sec, does it mean from powering the car up until BT is usable through the car system? That's is normal and the duration depends on how many contacts you have in your phone book and how many phones per contact. Mine take about the same.

I agree. It is only supposed to autoconnect to devices that support the handfree profiles, if the handfree profile is set as default.
I tired turning visible on right before i started the car and it connected no problem. Really annoying. I have a pioneer as well. Too bad you can't set it to visible always. Other than that it works much better than it did with the Fuze/Any WinMo phone. Never had a phone that worked right in the car, except for my GF IPhone, works great.
I hope it works better in Froyo.
Hi guys,
I am having problems with car BlueTooth hands free and Samsung Galaxy S:
With Eclair 2.1 it was working flawlesly, connected automaticlay after paired, I could make phonecals, receive phonecals, no quality issue, phonebook worked fine etc... The only problem was that once I did not swithced the BT on my SGS before starting to drive, for some security reasons the car was not searching for phones while driving, so I had to turn the BT in car off and on again and then it connected well. But overal problem free...
With latest 2.2 Froyo (i9000xfjp7) and also previous Froyo distributions (i tried JPA if I remember correctly), the phone can be paired, it connects to the car but after one phonecall it looses connection and works no more. The strange thing is, the BT icon on the phone shows brackets (like when connected) and also the car shows the phone is still connected. But phonecalls cannot be made via car HF and also cannot be received through it. Only by manualy accepting or dialing on the phone. And naturally the sound goes only via the phone, no HF.
The strange thing is, when I turn off the car and leave it, the phone says it is still connected to it, which is impossible.
Any ideas?
Thank you!

That is weird... When I switch back to Eclair, it works OK, back to Froyo, no HF after one phonecall...
I dont know how to work with ROMs, I managed to find out how to flash firmwares, I even handled many problems with Odin and its moods, incomplete flashes, etc... But I dont know how to use these custom ROMs...
Anyway, i would appreciate if someone told me how to resolve it without custom ROMs, as I plan to use offical Froyo when it becomes available, but with this issue, it is useless for me, as I travel a lot...
No one else?
I'm having a related problem.
I'm getting music stream cut outs (1 sec max) when streaming bluetooth to caraudio WHILE wifi on.
If i disable wifi, bluetoothaudio works fine. I know they share range bt/wifi, but this is unacceptable. They should negotiate. Everytime wifi scans, i get cutouts. Unusable. Only workaround is disabling wifi (and thats annoying because i have to be constantly activating/disabling it everytime i enter somewhere with wifi etc.
Using Docrom xxjpo v8 with voodoo.
Anyone has some software fix that makes wifi behave better when bluetooth musictream on?
I am currently running Perception 10.2 and the Firebird 2.3 kernel with the I9000UGK4 modem.
My Bluetooth connects to my Ford Sync in my truck but disconnects the phone part of the connection after a minute and only keeps the music side. It also automatically starts the music player every time.
This is a new problem for me. Previously the WiFi seemed to have an issue and when I drove away from my house and lost the WiFi signal the Bluetooth would disconnect also. That was on Cognition. I could prevent that by turning off the WiFi before starting the truck.
My understanding is the I9000 modems sometimes have issues with Bluetooth static vs. HSUPA? I need the Bluetooth more than the data speed.
I ran the Firebird 2 kernel and Cognition 3 and the bluetooth static was so bad I couldn't use it at all.
Are there any Sync users running a similar setup that they like and that works with the Bluetooth?
Should I just flash a different modem or try a different kernel? My suspicion is its the I9000 based kernels but most of the custom kernels seem to be based on the I9000.
I use ford sync. I am using jk4 modem. I am not on perception and I am not using firebird. I have no issues with connection. So, if it means anything it is not the modem. I have been on jpy roms without bluetooth issues, and I am currently on andromeda which is an armani port. No issues.
Maybe try a different kernel although I am unsure why that would make a difference. I would suggest hardcores.
I had these issues when I was on stock 2.1. Sometimes it even used to reboot my phone.
I am Maxima SYNC by the way, but both should be similar. Now I am 2.2.1 based ROMs and able to talk on phone properly.
Something u could try:
1. Delete all bluetooth profiles from ur phone.
2. Delete the phone profile from ur car.
3. Restart ur phone and connect it fresh.
This resolved the issue I once had when on a 2.2 ROM.
Cool. I will try the complete Bluetooth deletes ( I have done them but not both during the same flash or re-pare ) and if that doesn't work I will try the ROMs you both are running to see if that helps.
Thanks for the help.
OK. So just in case someone else has this issue and uses the search function.....
Turn off the Bluetooth audio input selection under the media input area of Sync before trying to pair your phone.
It works fine to go back and select Bluetooth audio after you have started and paired for a bit, but if Bluetooth audio in is selected when you first start your vehicle it will kick off the phone part and only keep the music player connected.
It also automatically opens the music player on the phone and starts playing the last track. Which I would imagine will effect battery life if you have your phone in your pocket and don't notice it.
Not sure if this was happening with other Kernels and ROMs as I only noticed it with this one.
I've never had a problem with any rom not being able to play through bluetooth media on my gf's focus. If you go to the bluetooth options on your phone, hold your finger down the sync connection you can select phone, media and connect. Select phone and media if you want both to be available.
Go to the menu for sync in your truck, I think it's under player settings or something similar, but there's an option for autoplay on or off. Obviously, if it's set to off it won't automatically play your music.
Right now I'm on Serendipity 4.1, Firebird 2 kernel and jl2 modem with no problems. I've also used Cognition roms, and Perception roms, never had any of the problems you're experiencing.
I had a Sync-enabled rental car last week, and noticed it wouldn't stay connected if say for instance I left the car with the phone and still had BT enabled, then came back to the car and tried to just let it auto rejoin. I found everything went smooth if I disabled BT when leaving the car, and reenabled coming back.

It has to be set to your phone as primary to auto connect.
I have had Ford Sync disconnect problem ever since I got captivate in November. Bluetooth randomly disconnects. Both cog 2.3b6 and 2.3b8 gave me problem, although 2.3b8 works better overall. I didn't try latest cognition roms yet.... I have a tasker that turns off wifi automatically when bluetooth is connected -- it improves things, but still I get disconnects every now and then.
I really hope to find a permanent solution to this. This is the most annoying problem with my phone right now....
I had serious disconnect issues too until I did something similar to what someone else already posted.
1. On phone, unpair Sync
2. In Sync, perform master reset (system settings>advanced>master reset) NOTE: This will lose all of your settings
3. Reboot phone
4. Pair phone and Sync. Allow Sync to download phonebook. (If this disconnects, restart at step 1)
5. I always disable automatic downloading of the phonebook and autoplay of bluetooth audio.
Once I get a successful phonebook download with no disconnect, I will not have any more issues with bluetooth.
Okay, so lots of people have problems with their bluetooth. I am too. I have a JVC KW-XR810 car stereo and the bluetooth keeps shutting down on one or the other. My questions are:
Does anyone else have this stereo and problem? If so, whats the situation?
Is there a ROM that works flawlessly (or close to) with the bluetooth?
Its odd though, that my headset works perfectly and I didn't have many problems with another stereo I've used. Makes me wonder if its the stereo or the phone. Still, many others have bluetooth problems with this phone...
Thanks for any responses.

Yep, same here - AT&T replaced my Captivate under warranty about 2 or 3 weeks ago due to the random shut-down issue. Took the new one home, installed Froyo, and rooted it. Everything works well, except lately I've been getting frequent bluetooth disconnects from my car stereo (Pioneer AVIC-X920BT).
The usual pattern seems to be it's good for about one call, and then shortly after ending that call, I notice that they are no longer connected. I usually turn off BT on the phone (seems to take a while to terminate) and then turn it back on, but it will usually only be good for a single call. It's been frustrating, and I'm leaning toward the problem being on the phone side, since that's where there have been recent changes.
Must be a problem with Stock Froyo. Glad I'm not using it.
I've had this issue with certain roms I was running. I have a Kenwood KDC-X993. So far on CM7 it stayed connected.

annoying but I just deal with it.
I'm running Paragon 6 and have a Dual head unit. I haven't had any disconnect issues, my problem is the crappy Pandora app.

Same here, I have a Parrot mki system in my car, but I found a workaround that I hope works for you too:
Unpair with the device, and when you re-pair it, when it asks you to synchronize contacts, do not let it. It will bug you every time it connects, but just ignore the requests.
I haven't had a single disconnect since doing this weeks ago.
I've read about the contacts request from other users but it doesn't happen with mine. Another thing, when I lose the connection and I turn off bt one the phone out shuts off. Completely. Pushing the power button does nothing. Holding the volume up and power buttons together for a few seconds seems to restart it but theres no animation. Just the lock screen, media scanner, etc. Maybe its restarting on its own and the button pushing has nothing to do with it. Also, I listened to my bt headset for hours last night with no probs at alI. Idk. Is bt different for head units? I thought it all used the same protocals.
So it seems that its not my head unit, but the phone. Are there any good solutions for us?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
My head unit never asks to download contacts. Could it be that some do because they store that info in order to identify and announce incoming calls? That would mean there's more going on than just a simple BT connection.
Yeah. One post I read said something about it using a data connection the hu for contacts. I have no idea what he was talking about though.

The only purpose I can see for this is if the head unit has an integrated nav system. That would allow you to bring up a contact as a nav target independent of the phone.
Okay, gettinging back to my original questions. So far we've established that this is endemic to the captivate, mostly. There have been two replies saying that cm7 and paragon 6 have stable bt connections with head units. I read in another post that axura works as well. This is so frustrating that I'm just about willng to learn how to flash this thing.

We have? My first post says I have zero issues with this on my head unit with my phone on Eclair, Froyo and now Andromeda. If it is a phone issue mine is not suffering from it. Sounds more like it has something to do with head units that store contact data. Mine apparently doesn't.
Hmmm.
Yet in your second post you posited that it must be a Froyo issue.
Regardless of whether it is the phone or OS, a lot of Captivate owners seem to have bt issues of one kind or another with various devices. Maybe this is just a bt issue in general that everyone deals with (not just Captivate owners) and I'm just being sensitive because I haven't had much bt exposure.
Any help is appreciated here. I'm just looking for suggestions on what to do short of buying a new phone or head unit. It would be great if other users experiencing this problem would benefit from the discussion as well.
So far it appears that flashing a different ROM may be a solution but which one? Is there any way to change only the bt stack?
Sorry if that sounded short, but I'm REALLY frustrated with this.
My hu will store contacts as most do these days, but it doesn't ask for them. I don't think the problem is related to the contacts. I guess its just a random incompatibility thing.
I said it "might" be a problem with stock Froyo. I didn't see it the 3 days I was running it and my current ROM is Froyo-based and working without issue. The only other variable I can see is that others posting problems have reported having to deny access to contacts, something my head unit never asks for, in order to get it to work. That would appear to indicate the difference is in the head units and not the phones, but unless I could connect to one of these other head units to verify, I'm only guessing. Sorry.
i notice that if I toggle the bluetooth on my phone right before connecting it to my car, it works flawlessly
Installed a Kenwood X994 and had all kinds of issues with BT. Worked for awhile but would never auto connect. Only vehicle and area where I had BT issues. I realized it was due to the downloading of contacts at every connect. sometimes it would download than immediately disconnect. frustrating. Was on serendipity, Tried a native Cappy ROM, Cognition and now Phoenix..
The unit has the Parrot system in it so it should be ok. Finally decided to update the Firmware on the HU. So far so good. I like the contact download so I don't need to use the phone at all to make a call. Receiving calls is no problem.
Will test further tomorrow.
BTW I have a BT Garmin mounted in the truck and used it before getting the head unit. no problems connecting. The only issue with that was a delay between pressing the call button and the call being made. Hanging up was an issue as well.
