Hello guys, recently I hear a lot of phones being stolen around my area and I started looking into anti-theft solutions for my Galaxy S. I've found various programs and even Samsung's Mobile Tracker seems to do most of the job (even though locating the phone via GPS is unavailable in my country). What most people ask me when I tell them about Mobile Tracker is: what are you going to do if they just flash the firmware as soon as they steal it ? At the moment I have a few questions in mind:
1. How can you prevent the phone being flashed on will ? Does this mean locking the bootloader ?
2. Would it be possible to turn the phone+GPS+data network on remotely somehow ? Does the hardware support this feature (I know that Android won't even ring your alarm if the phone is turned off) ?
Looking forward to your answers.
Best anti theft advice: Don't leave it unatended!
you can also install about any software like Anti Theft droid, but it will work as long as it is installed.

Hey guys,
I have a problem with viber...it always crashes everytime I try to access the application, can somebody tell me how to fix this?
Thanks
and also....is it working on ARCDroid?
Hi,
This is a member of Viber's Development Team.
What device do you have?
Do you have stock or custom ROM?
Does ARCDroid is your device? (couldn't find it for some reason. :S)
Viber Team
ARCDroid is a Custom Android ROM for a Windows Mobile 6 phone, the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1. There's really no reason why Viber MUST work on this situation.
I just wish there was at least ONE proper viber/liveprofile/whatsapp alternative for Windows Mobile 6
Ahh... I see now.
Unfortunately, Viber does not officially support your device nor the OS (or the custom ROM), so it will be very hard for me to assist you on this.
You might want to contact the ROM developers
hmm...I see..thanks for the information
I am having the same issue, viber used to run on my Custom xdandroid (FROYO) ROM.
Now it's not working (I guess i need to go back to the older Viber version which used to work).
As it was working in the first place, why should it stop working with an updated Viber version running on the same custom ROM?
Because with each new version, we add new features and improve/alter existing ones. It could be that a new feature is now colliding with something that the ROM has tweaked, while before it was changed, everything was fine.
It still doesn't rule out the possibility that it's the ROM colliding with Viber.

Hi,
We have received reports from many Chinese users that Viber stopped working suddenly all across the country. We suspect that it's blocked now.
Can you confirm?
Yes, I confirm. I live in Beijing using China Unicom and Viber has been inaccessible for the 4 last days or something.
The strange thing is that after I use a VPN to connect I can then deactivate it and I stay connected to Viber...
I've been living in China for 10 years now, and trust me, I got to love that country because they are such a pain with the internet.
This is sad news - we're going to lose a huge portion of our Chinese users
Have you tried contacting the authorities, or your cellular provider? What do they say about this sudden block?
@zorlak -
Is the block still intact? We have received a few reports from users for whom Viber suddenly works again on WiFi networks!
Just a question to all the Kaiser users out there.
Do you use the Kaiser with only Android installed as your main phone?
Those that do, have you had any "bad" experiences while using the phone that are NOT caused by network discrepancies (i.e.: dropped calls, bad signal, etc.)?
I ask because I do use mine as my main form of communication on a daily basis, and I had my first dropped call today due to a hard lock. This is after almost a year of use, on the same phone, in different parts of the country with only a couple of days of non-use for screen replacement (scratched/damaged touchscreen).
I know we're all hanging on to old technology for different reasons, wether it be cost, availability, or that certain "wow" factor that comes from completely changing something that was never meant to be changed. I have become fond of my Kaisers for obvious reasons, but if I cannot trust it when I need it I may need to move on.
Thoughts?
I use it as the main phone . I dont have any problems except the camera and the WiFi . Hope to get it rectified soon though :/

Man, you still didn't manage to get WiFi to work ?
Dude my kernel !!
and because of exams i cant get that repaired !!
IDK if your kernel is the issue or not because the radio rom also has a lot to do with some aspects of the hardware controls (phone, wifi, audio, camera, etc.).
Other than checking your wifi.ko file with root explorer or some other text viewer, the only option is to change your rom. I have had a 99% success rate with my Kaiser using only Scoots kernel with 25mb of cache, the 8/29/11 rom from sourceforge and LauncherPro plus (from my personal stash). I have the kernel setting the clock to 500MHz on start up and I usually end up underclocking to 480 for a week or so to check stability against the previous weeks settings.
My camera works, my wifi works, bluetooth works, tethering/hot spot works, but video doesn't (not like I'll EVER use this thing for videos)...

Hi!
I use it as my main phone. After the imap push deactivation i hadn't got any hard lock.
But i use gmail sync, and sometimes i got a screen of death. But it's very very rare (maybe one in a month). I think if i didn't use anything thats related to 3G network, this lock up wouldn't appear.
This is my work phone so it must be stable. I'm satisfied with it.
I want to use ANT+ with some newer rom and not with the original SonyEricson version, but so far i couldn't fine any.
Latest try was the: MiniCM9-3.0.0 [1/4/12]ICS 4.0.4/CM9 port for the Χ8 by nobodyAtall with his ICS nAa kernel.
It looked promissing, because I could download the ANT Radio Services from Play Store, but as soon as i start an ANT+ enabled program I get messages like:
(ANT+ Demo)
Enabling ANT...
Enable ANT ->
(ANT+ Bike display Demo)
ANT radio not enabled
So it looks like it claims radio is there and functioning, but it doesn't work.
Any thoughts? Otherwise I'll have to go back (again, tried couple times already with different version) to old SE rom.
(The MiniCM9-3.0.0 looks great although battery drain is awful.)
Just as a general statement that applies to every ROM that's being developed from source ...
- Developers can't fix things where the required hardware for testing is missing.
- Developers won't fix things they don't use at all.
In short: Custom ROMs are being made by privateers in their spare-time. None of us is a employee of some smartphone manufacturer having access to tons of testing equipment or having someone to pay the bill for buying crap to conducts tests with.
On topic: Up till today the people I saw posting about ANT+ can be counted easily by just using the fingers of one hand ... so it's safe to assume that none of us actually owns a ANT+ gadget or makes use of it.
Just to make sure, i'm only asking for information.
About your statements:
Developers can't fix things where the required hardware for testing is missing:
The ANT+ radio is available in most Sony Ericson phones, you just need to install the drivers, and the demo programs.
You don't need to buy a heart rate monitor to see if it works.
In the case of the roms i tried, they either didn´t recognise ANT+ or the driver didn't initialize correctly.
Developers won't fix things they don't use at all:
No problem, I'll try to look into it myself.
On topic: ANT+ is one of the coolest things Sony Ericson implemented in their mobile phones.
At least for anyone that has a (Garmin) heart rate monitor with ANT+.
With your phone and ANT+ heart rate monitor you have a cheaper more flexible GPS/heart rate monitor device than you can buy from any company's and can make phone calls.
Ant+ Rom
I haven't verified that it is working, but MiniCM7 claims to have working Ant+. Unfortunately, I can't use it because it requires the nAa Kernel and I can't unlock my bootloader because my phone is the 11W29 model.
If I find a way to safely unlock the bootloader I'll definitely be giving MiniCM7 a try. Other than lacking the ANT+, I'm really happy GingerDX.
If you find any way to get it working, please post the info.
hi guys,
have you managed to get ANT working on any rom? I'm trying to use it on a ray with iced bean 3.0, but it's just saying enabling ant and after a while switches to enable ant. I mention, I have installed the ant radio service ant ant demo from play. an tried to activate with the demo.
thanks.
I've done some searching about and can't find what I'm after so new thread time!
Basically I've replaced my battered S4A with a OnePlus One (love it!) and was wondering what I could do with my S4A as its in no state to sell.
It's been sitting on the side all week and still got power!!! but I guess that's due to the fact its not connected to Wifi, has no sim and isn't being used but did make me think that I could prob get some use out of it when doing some of the long cycling events I do.
So I was wondering what would be the best way of doing this? I would generally only want to run Endomondo on it and keep it running for as long as possible with GPS on, prob have a PAYG mobile broadband sim in there for the data that it requires.
Is there a really stripped down rom anyone would recommend? Things I should remove/disable/turn off? Is this just a stupid idea?
Cheers
Ok, so I bought the ROG Phone 2 on AliExpress a few weeks ago on Black Friday because I really needed a new phone. After reviewing the page details I found out that the seller puts the global rom on himself because it comes by default with the Chinese rom. Will this still work for banking apps and OTA updates? Can I make it work somehow? Had I known in advance that it wouldn't be the Real global version I wouldn't have bought it, but since I've waited so long to get it, I'd just assume make it work myself, rather than go through the whole hassle to return it. I don't know much about custom rom's and what is / isn't possible, so I am at a loss as to what to do, or how I can check what kind of phone it is when I get it. Any help would be much appreciated so thanks in advance!
Here is the page where i bought it, because it has some more information on specifics: "aliexpress.com/item/4000106113494.html?spm=a2g0s.12269583.0.0.5fd61d0e5SUkH5"
Also side question, since the seller changed the rom himself should I be possibly concerned with keylogger or anything?
1. I shouldn't worry too much about keyloggers etc. but if you are, just run a good virus scanner when you get the device...
2. With regard to banking apps, they mainly have issues with being rooted... which you won't be.
3. Regarding OTA's, assuming the fingerprint has been changed, you can see this thread for an app that allows updates to be enabled, providing you aren't rooted or anything.
But, if they haven't changed the fingerprint (you can check using device info HW under 'system') then you'll need to follow one of the guides on the forum to change it yourself... here's one... change fingerprint
Is there a way to unlock the bands, or is that strictly a hardware issue?
