Ive searched and couldnt find a specific answer

EDITL and i am s-off, but i didnt flash the SPL/ENG
thats one thing i was considering, but wanted to get an answer

I don't think you can run fastboot commands, unless you have Engineering SPL flashed.

Dumping ENG SPL?

hey all,
I temporarily have access to a N1 with the ENG s-off SPL, and I'm wondering if anyone has an idea based off previous phones of how to dump it into a file as something useful.
I'll keep looking around but I thought I'd throw the question out there.
-Dan
I believe we already have the engineering SPL. We just can't flash it. Really appreciate that you would be willing to do that, though.

why aren't we able to flash it? Because we have non-holiday phones and they came with s-on?

It's the engineering nexus 1... aka, the phone with S-off... which allows you to flash any ROM even if it is not officially signed

S-On and if you look at the hboot size, they are different. Eng N1 is 768kb and Shipping is 512kb
Fastboot flash hboot hboot.img Do not flash to your boot partition.
what will happen if i try to flash the SPL above? or will i not be able to due to s-on?

S-off and S-on : Security on and off (writing directly to nand or not) , most probably not SPL linked, S-on prevents you to downgrade.

Good to know, thanks a bunch!

I've heard people are looking for a way to relock the SPL on the nexus one, and to do that they need a copy of an original SPL. So I was wondering, and I am sure other android n00bs out there want to know as well, what goes in to dumping an SPL, or any image for that matter, and how come we can't dump the SPL that ships on the nexus one?

Boot into fastboot and use "fastboot oem relock" command. But note, your bootloader will show RELOCKED instead of LOCKED once you do that.

Will HTC repair the phone on warrenty when the bootloader is RELOCKED?

Only with S-OFF you can get it to show LOCKED again. This means few additional steps, it's not hard.
I don't know if HTC repairs RELOCKED phones under warranty.

HBOOT 1.54 doesn't work on Windows 8.1. You can use Ubuntu 32-bit Live CD which doesn't need installation.

[Q] Uhm I need help!

So I was running stock rooted and decided to run the Google Play Edition rom the latest one. It isnt in a bootloop but when I get to the home screen the screen is black, blinks for a second and goes back to being a black screen. Was wondering if I should just let the phone die and see if I could still boot in recovery and maybe flash a backup. But as of now I dont have a phone and would appreciate someones help.
Are you S-ON? If so, did you fastboot flash the boot.img?
Also if you're S-ON, you should S-OFF immediately to avoid these types of situations in the future .

I guess I should add instructions to my guide on how to fastboot flash kernels, huh?
Quick question, Cap. Is fastboot flashing the kernel only required for GPE when S-on, or is it AOSP in general? Reason I ask is I haven't seen much mention of it elsewhere.
Edit: Guide updated with instructions for S-on kernel flashing. Hit the second link in my sig.

The only time fastboot flashing the kernel should ever be necessary is if the device is S-ON.
S off

Firewater works on all M8 variants, but some devices aren't compatible. SunShine S-OFF works on all M8s.

While S-on you need to fastboot flash the boot.img. Hit the second link in my sig and read down to the portion on S-on kernel flashing. Once S-off you can just flash like normal and ignore the info above.

There are other reasons to S-off. Perhaps you should read the entire Hboot guide I wrote for the M8, not just the portion regarding flashing kernels while S-on.

Alright so i fixed the issue, when I flashed the rom without doing a full wipe, then flashing the SU that seemed to do the trick. Not 100% sure why but it works perfectly fine with no issued. Thanks for all your help.

[Q] need help getting back to stock on hk version

hey yall I been searching and reading all forums on going back to stock. theres only regular sprint htc m8 version and nothing on the hk edition so I can get the new ota and remain on stock. ive lost my back up file when I upload a custom rom. ive tried a bunch of things like using ruu and that but kept getting an error like a 32 and a 99. I cant get the s-on to turn off to get more. idk if im doing something wrong or what but im hoping someone can shine some light this way and help me out. yes I tired the sunshine apk but it pops up need based rom etc. so.........
You have to relock to use an RUU when you're still S-ON, and you must make sure that you're using an HK RUU.

not to seem stupid but this is a learning process for me coming from iphone to android. so when u say relock u mean bootloader? n do I need to have original recovery. and when I do the ruu im using fastboot it wont cuz me to have an error again right?

Yes, relock the bootloader (fastboot oem lock). That'll prevent the error 92 or whichever it was. It doesn't matter what recovery is on there, as the RUU will overwrite it with stock.

I have a Sprint M8. S On. Flashed a custom rom. I need to go back to stock unrooted. the utility failed because I had the wrong firmware or something. What do I do?
I would just run the RUU against your phone. You can download it from http://dl3.htc.com.s3.amazonaws.com/application/RUU_M8_WHL_L50_SENSE60_SPCS_MR_Sprint_WWE_4.25.651.18_Radio_1.09.20.0209_NV_SPCS_1.52_003_release_446215_signed_2.exe

Being S-on you'll need to run a RUU with a software version newer than what you currently have installed on your device.
The ruu you sent didnt work. Error 155.
