[Q] Could someone give me a vanilla Gingerbread kernel backup please? - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've used CF-root to get root (as I couldn't get Gingerbreak to work), but I could really do with a vanilla zImage backup from Gingerbread.
I'm getting back on with Meego (and some Ubuntu eventually) dev and would like to see what's in the vanilla initramfs (which is compiled into the kernel).
So if anyone could either email me the backup or post a link that would be very useful.
Thanks in advance

I've now got one, thanks for looking.

[Q] modem/kernels/overclocking/odin3

i'm still relatively new to the whole rooting experience
about a month and a half ago i picked up a captivate..since then i have rooted..upgraded to 2.2..and flashed cognition v3.02 rom
everything works great..but now i'm interested in flashing a new kernel (still running stock captivate kernel) and overclocking to 1.2ghz to add a bit more speed
in my settings i can tell you this..baseband version is I896UXJL1, kernel version is 2.6.32.9
from what i've read your modem version matters when flashing new kernels
i also understand that odin is used to flash kernels and such..but i have no idea how to use the program and all i can find on google are methods to revert back to stock firmware
do i need to upgrade my modem?
what would be a stable kernel that allows overclocking that you would recommend?
how do i use odin to flash that kernel?
i don't really want to do anything without full knowledge so i can reduce the risk of bricking my phone
i would greatly appreciate any help and i fully support the amazing things you guys are doing with the android platform

jl1 is your modem version right now. if everything works for you, why you want to change?
suckerpuch is a kernel allows oc and it has a CWM version to flash.
oc usually will shorten your battery for the daily usage.
The easiest why I found to flash kernal is to use SGS kernal flasher you find it on the market lets you flash different kernals from within android. Once you get a different kernal with cwm you cab just flash modems from within the recovery menu as long as the modem is in a cwm flashable file

[Q]Can U mix Stock & new kernel?

I have a near stock (rooted) 2.3.3 - from an early kitchen release of Gingerbread. I was wondering if I could flash Redstar kernel onto this - and it all still work? Everyone seems to be using CM7 - (which I want to avoid at the moment), but I've heard really good things about this kernel.
OK to try? (I'd nandroid first of course)

[Q] Kernel Compatibility Question GB KK1

I recently flashed my Captivate (I897) to stock leaked 2.3.5 I897UCKK1
I am trying to understand what my options are for rooting to regain wifi tethering capability. Unfortunately, I really don't understand the kernel interaction and the potential compatibility issues. Normally, I understand I just need to stay on a kernel that was sourced from the same version (in this case KK1).
Anyway, I am hoping for some information on what kernels might be OK to use with my current ROM. My wish list in a kernel at this point would be BLN, EXT4 Lagfix (Voodoo or new CWM) and Root. From reading, it sounds like there is a lot more support for KK4.. Maybe I need to move to a KK4 ROM as well?
Thank in advance for not flaming the noob (I hope)

I suspect you're right. KK4 does have a good following since it is the newest leak, and there are several KK4 based ROMs out there in active development that support lagfix.
You won't find BLN on any i897 ROMs, though. There's no source code from Samsung so there is no way for the devs to add it in. For that, you would need to use an i9000 ROM or a 2.2 i897 ROM.
Thank you!

[Q] Kernel on my phone?

Can someone help me and tell me which kernel I'm using on my phone?
If I go to About phone, I can see under Kernel version:
"[email protected] #3"
Someone talking about stock, Glitch, Semaphore ... but I can't find any of this in my kernel version.
Otherwise, I use ICS AOKP build 27.
In thread about AOKP I read that Glitch is recommended. If I change kernel (with CWM) to Glitch, I will loose everything, if I understand, what kernel is?
Can I use Titanium Backup to restore everything back?
Thanks in advance for every helpful information.

Flashing kernel doesn't wipe anything (well maybe some kernel related things, but you wouldn't notice it), so it's quite safe to flash new kernel (well you should always be prepared to problems..for example, to use Odin to fix bootloop).
But for just to be safe it's always wise to have a up-to-date backups and/or a nandroid backup (made via CWM).
You'll find more info from those kernel threads..

You have right - we must be prepare for anything
But - do you know which kernel I'm using?

[Q] Help Backup & flash CM7

hello this is my firt post-- A complete noob.
I have a galaxy tab 7 stock froyo.
I managed to get root via oneclickroot.
I now want to update it to cm7. However, before hat I want to backup my stock rom. could someone direct me to a real step by step guide-- I don't want " run nandroid.sh script" -- I need to know where to run the script from.
thanks
There is no outstanding CM7 build for the Tab. Instead, use the Overcome guide here to install GB safe v5 and the latest Overcome ROM (it's great!):

Make sure you flash the right stuff and get Overcome as it's a great starter ROM! Then, you can try ICS as it's pretty sweet and works almost as good as CM7 builds.
Oh, and make sure you don't skip any steps in the guide. Odin is not a toy!
difference
the first question that arises is that clockwork mod is based in 2.1 kernel-- does that mean that if I backup my current rom with the mod and have to go back will it go back to 2.1 eclair
currently running a rooted 2.2 froyo.
