what app you talking about? city id or city caller id? I want city id because its 100 times better. Plus I get the $1.99 a month for free so I want it. I had it for froyo.
You guys should google True Caller. It is ghetto dope!
So what are the benefits of all the different apps?
True caller
City ID
City Caller ID

I came from the tp2 and skype is one the apps I used a lot. I went to the market and I couldn't find it, then went to skype site to download it and they don't support this phone yet.
Have someone found a way to get skype?
Thanks in advance

Give it time 2-3 months or maybe one more beta, it is still in pretty deep beta. But no doubt the Epic will get priority because it is designed for specifically that. I would search the Skype forums.
Nevermind. I had a brainfart. I think you might find it in evo, same section as this.
Looking to swype skype?
Thanks I just looked skype forums. I guess they want to implemente videochat on it, thas why is not there.
I'll look in the evo section, thanks!!

Thank you.

Right now there's no real way to use Skype with an official client on the Epic without a lot of work, but you can use Skype through Nimbuzz, which is free on the market.
IM+ worked perfectly on my blackberry the last 4yrs and they have a droid client free & paid. But, it doesnt appear to connect to Skype since I have been trying it.
Besides, the droid is a rough beta compared to the look, feel and behavior of the rim version....
I believe the Verizon exclusive partnership with Skype is holding things up at this point.
Is there any stable Skype chat 3rd party client out there, i can wait for video chat by stressing Qik...

Thanks dude, keep us updated cause I want it bad also and it could be a big block buster item that will propel this system.
Has anyone here got Google Talk to perform video chat on the phone?
We could only get video and no sound between two laptops yesterday with GT.
IMO.im allows skype texting functionality.
Skype works... google skype lite beta 1.0.0.5... verizon paid for exclusivity is all. Bu the old beta build still works on all phones =)
Thanks I just install it but man that version is horrible I can't even call my contacts nor use my skype credit, hopefully skype will hurry up and get it back to work on all androids.

I'm looking for an android app that will answer a phone call after a defined number of rings and record voicemails to my SD. It obviously doesnt need to run if the phone is powered down.
I think the problem in designing this is having sound sent from an app to the caller.
Does anybody know if this exists? (in all countries.. ie not googlevoice)

Try hullomail. Its free too.
Are the actually any voicemail apps for the phone itself. I really don't want to subscribe to a service even it it is free and would rather have all my voicemail left on the phone as OP originally requested.
Skype For Android Gets Video
Widespread 3G and cheap Wi-Fi routers have made video calling popular. This has helped applications such as Fring get millions of users in very little time. To catch up with the competition, Skype has now released its version 2.0, capable of video chat for Android.
Right now, Skype 2.0 will only work on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) devices with front-facing cameras. The list of compatible devices includes the HTC Desire S, Sony Ericsson Xperia neo, Sony Ericsson Xperia pro, and the Google Nexus S. The company is also working on a plan to cover devices that have currently been left out. The application will work with Wi-Fi as well as 3G. It reportedly supports PC-to-mobile calls, which gives it an edge over the competition. According to Skype, the app also features a completely revamped UI.
If you happen to have a Gingerbread device, download Skype 2.0 here (see original article for link) . Otherwise, check out the following video.

I have found the Market APK does not allow video then, stumbled upon this thread from the i9000 forum.
Skype 2.0 / video-call patched to work with SGS/SGS2 and many other devices!
Mad Props to theos0o
make sure to give him thanks!
Verified this working from Bonsai B12 based on EF02 leak, called a laptop video was great over 3g.
Nice, cant wait for official gingerbread even more
Sweet - this one lets me log in with 4G, the market one didn't.

I have a rooted/rommed wifi-only S1 and my GF has a Blackberry 9780. She is currently overseas for X amount of time and the only way we can talk is by calling each other which is extremely expensive, or using skype which means she has to borrow a friend's laptop or android device. She has service on her phone over there, unsure of what type of plan.
I came up with the idea of using my old BB 8330 and figuring out how to use BBM or something similar on wifi-only, but it turns out that 'ol phone doesn't have wifi on it. It's too bad I sold my last BB some time ago which was an 8530 and had wifi. Oh well.
Anyways, I'm now wondering if there's an app I can use on my S1 that she can also use on her 9780 that would allow us to text and or talk. Something like BBM that doesn't require me to have service or a data plan. I imagine there's at least one app out there that would do this and also be available to BB users.
Thanks.

I read somewhere that it uses your phone number but can't seem to confirm that.
I'm pretty sure we can use KIK but it's text only. I may be getting greedy with wanting text and talk, but having both would be awesome.
Does her phone have a browser? If so, you could use any site like ebuddy to talk. Or even get on something like palringo (dunno if there's a bb version?) but there must be something alike.

She has service and we *think* her data is unlimited. She also has a wireless router at her flat so wifi helps if the data is limited/costly.
We're trying to use apps over our current methods or using something browser based mainly for convenience. Something like whatsapp or KIK would work perfectly from what I understand, but they're text-only. Not a huge problem, but if I can find text+voice that would be great. Skype is normally the answer to that question but her phone, or more specifically her service provider, isn't compatible with skype from what I'm seeing.

Then ebuddy would most likely be your answer. It has chat + voice/video and is browser based.

I went with Kik for now. It's actually a pretty cool messenger app. Clean and fast.
I haven't yet found anything that covers both messages and voice in app form other than skype which I confirmed is not compatible with her model of phone.

Preferring to stay away from browser since apps are far more convenient and because browsers always run very sluggish on my cappy for some reason.

Should hassle Ebuddy to make a app then lol
But if you wanna try it, there's a bare naked browser (ugly but fasssst) on here. Called naked browser I believe.

Looks like the exact app I need and it's compatible with blackberry. Will give it a try. Thanks!
ETA: Looks like Blackberry devices can not use the VoIP feature yet but they say it will be available eventually.
Turns out you need a number for viber and my device is wifi-only. After some research I found that you can use any phone number that can receive SMS because it's for them to send you a registration PIN. I tried both my GV and Heywire numbers and haven't received that text on either one. :\
THIS works very well for me on O2.
What are you doing??

Sadly its only for o2 customers. Texplus gives free calling (you gain credits from apps) and theres a few others on the app store.

textplus is now Pinger for some platforms right? But you do get a number for voice and texting

I wasn't aware of the change of name since I don't have it currently installed. The feature of getting a real phone number is a good advantage even gives you a choice for an area near you
Just checked it out, pinger is a completely different app. Both are in the googleplay store. But pinger is not compatible with our nexus 7
