Rooting on a Mac - LG Revolution

Is there another way to root the Revo? I'm on a Mac and all I see on Google is how to root on PC.
Also, what's the ROM status on this phone? I'm seriously considering returning it because of Bing.
I gotta get rid of this crap that's on here! I can't stand it especially coming from a GB Droid!!

Best Marshmallow upgrade route

Hi,
So I keep reading all the 6.0 threads and have yet to come up with an answer. I am thinking of moving to Marshmallow. I have a few things I would like to keep and would like help understanding if it is possible at this point.
Upgrade to 6.0
Get adblocking of some type(either though app or modify hosts in recovery)
Verizon tethering check
Android Pay
I know I can use an app for tether, so that is 1 of 3 taken care of. Can someone help me answer the other 2? Will I get boot errors saying my device has been tampered? There has been a whirlwind of activity, maybe I'm just getting a little anxious and the answers will come in time.
Thanks
To get adblock working you need root, to get Android Pay working you cant be rooted as far as I know. Which one can you live without?

Android Pay - to root or not to root

I was about to root my phone, when I read a saw a thread in Top Forum Discussions regarding Android Pay not working with root.
For me this is a huge problem
One of the reasons I bought this phone, was because of the amazing community behind custom roms.... however;
Android Pay is just way too convenient for someone like me, living in London. I use public transport, and am able to use contactless payments basically anywhere I go.
For me this means I won't root my phone anymore, can't enjoy any great customs anymore, and kind off kills the reason for me even buying this phone. Not that it isn't a great phone, it's just that a lot of different options would've been available for me.
Anyone else in the same boat?
PS: Before stating there are other ways to pay; if you've ever used Android Pay for a week in a city where you can use it ANYWHERE you go, every bar, shop, supermarket, etc. You'd understand the convenience in daily life
EDIT: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/mod-magisk-v1-universal-systemless-t3432382
Apparently there is a solution as of today!
Exodus rom passes the safetynet challenge with google, so you can use android pay on there (without root ofc), there are a few others but can't remember which ones, and i'm not flashing a load to find out right now - with your story, same here - contactless is everywhere!
Could you elaborate on that? You have to root the device to be able to flash the rom right?
Don't lose your hope and have a look here... http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/mod-rootcloak-completely-hide-root-t2574647
Maybe it could be a good solution to face that problem. In my case, in spite of I have rooted my device, after installing that Xposed mod, I can pay with my phone everywhere using my ING Direct bank account without problems.
Sounds great! I'll take a look
I feel your pain @ Pengod I'm in the same boat, this is the first Android device I've own this long without root because of Android pay.....I saw a few options around the inner-webs but nothing seem 100% proof. If there is a 100% way of having root + android pay I'm in......
Unfortunately, it doesn't work on my device.
You can flash a stockish ROM and then unroot and Android Pay will work. I'm using [ROM]OP3Lite 2.2.1.
When you flash the ROM it will be rooted but just unroot using SuperSU and you get the benefit of the ROM
and you can use Android Pay.
Why do you want google to know all o your transaction history?
Whats the different between android pay and a contact-less enabled bank/credit card?
exactly...I really don't see the value in Android Pay when every bank/credit card has contactless/tap payment available. In the time you open the app and setup the payment on your phone, you can also take out your wallet...unless you're a girl and have a huge purse or something
Simply put, I have two pockets, one for my phone, one for my cigarettes. If I can use Android Pay, that's all I need. Without Android Pay I need to bring along wallet/cardholder with my cards.
I don't care if google knows my transaction history, because I'm not naive, they already know everything they want to know about me anyway... if they'd care.
Maybe there's a solution now! Check the new link

Root SM-T817V?

After a few hours of searching, I feel like I already know the answer. I'm just wanting a more of a clarification - as there's no clear answer about this device that I can find, and nothing really updated since October.
Recently got the Verizon version of this tab (work gift) and I don't have VZW, and don't intend on getting them. and therefore don't care about the LTE aspects.
Is there indeed no root specifically for this device?
Would even the permissive kernel (for the 810) for 5.1.1 (current FW on my device anyway) not work?
Or does this all boil down to having a locked bootloader?
I really want to debloat the Verizon nonsense/notifications/activation/etc.
Probably going to be easier to just sell this one, and get a WiFi only version?
TIA!
Have you figured out how to root this because I am wondering the same thing! Google only throws junk results and this topic
I got one from my parents and the android version is 5.1.1. Could we root it?
Add me to the list of people who want a solution.

Sure would be nice. I have a t817v running 7.0 and knox enterprise. So far I've managed to get everything to work on other users than owner except usb debugging. Home and open app buttons work and so does sdcard and camera so far. No sure how I got around knox to update to 7.0 but I did. I'll have it figured out soon. No computer so haven't tried to root or flash stock

Stock vs rooted

Is it worth to root and install other roms breaking the warranty? What is better camera? Battery life, performance? Still no lineage os proper rom.. Thansk for answers. Im asking who is a flashaholic and tested many roms. Because i was. Had note3. quite new with note8

I used to root and flash everything I had as well. Started on the note 2, then 3 and 4. I came from the Note 4. I still haven't seen any real benefits of rooting the Note 8. My reasoning before was for free wifi hotspot. But I have that now on my stock 8.

The UI and customization is better on Roms. Being able to rid self of ads cool as well. Also being able to get rid of bloatware. But I can understand where your coming from.
I am kinda on same boat as you. Rooting and Roming is dien it seems. Wish it wasn't The Note 8 Sexy with Root or not Root thou

This is the first phone I have not rooted and have no intention to root.
Reasons why I generally root -
* Can block ads on the default (Chrome) browser. To work around, I use Firefox instead of Chrome. I also hear Samsung's own browser is good and also has adblocking, a lot of people swear by it, but I haven't yet tried it much. I'm eager to see how Google implements it in Q2 2018.
* Could turn screen upside down. This helps a lot if you use (wired) headsets or charger while using the phone in portrait mode while lying down. IMO this should be part of stock! But this alone is not worth it for me to root.
Beware you shouldn't root this phone just for experimenting.
WARNING Rooting breaks Knox, which disables a few things few things irreversibly. As of now, you won't be able to use Samsung Pay / Android Pay, Samsung Secure Files, even if you 'unroot'.
You should root if you want to try out new ROM's, and you are okay with loosing secure features like Android Pay / Samsung Pay forever.

Convince me to root my Note 8

I just got it last week. The system update notifications are driving me nuts. I shut them off via apps management, but of course they keep coming back every day.
The 80% battery thing sucks on my rooted S8+, though I can't tell if it's the same battery charge time simply recalibrated or what (never did get a clear answer on that).
The reminder on the settings icon on my rooted S8+ telling me to call Sammy drives me as crazy as a stuck pixel would.
I love viper, but the audio settings as stock offer pretty good customization for my needs.
Even with root it's getting near impossible to escape the barrage of adware **** on apps now.
So, before I simply update (basically committing to stock forever), tell me why I should root.
(I'm asking for specifics to this model here, not some chastising of my apparent ignorance of what root can provide. I've been rooting since the Motorola V3m flip phone. )

LOL, I have to disagree. I have an iPhone 7 for work (not my choice), and an unrooted, stock Note8. It's SO much better than an Apple.

The proverbial apple in this case is never worst that the actual device
Stock note 8 to me is fine. I use blockada does a good jobs at blocking adds. It's the first phone I did not root. And not planning to. I know this is a thread to why you should root your phone. With this question depends on model if there is no tarp support for your model then root to me is pointless.
Now why not to root your

You already sound convinced not to. Either way if you do update there is still root up to the February Snapdragon update.
Thanks for the comments.
The Note 8 will be the first phone that I've decided not to root or jailbreak if I do keep it stock (which it looks like I might do).
I love rooted phones, and in describing the Note 8 to my brother during a recent call, I actually said that this phone is so good that I might not even bother to root it.
LOL - not everyone gets what a compliment that is.
I know you want someone to convince you to root it but this phone really doesn't even need root, it's that good stock to me
The S8+ and Note 8 are the first 2 phones I haven't rooted since the T-Mobile G-1 in 2009. I do miss Adaway, TWRP, Root Explorer and Titanium Backup..........................................but I'll live without them for the time being.

It's simple, you root because you want or need to. No reason for anyone but you to convince you. I decided that I like custom Roms and root more than Knox.
I don't have to worry about warranty because I live in the European union and have a mandatory warranty as long as flashing custom software was not the cause of whatever it is breaking on my phone.
