I downloaded a 1280x800 wallpaper on Google images but when I go into gallery and press set picture as the picture is way to big and I can't fit the box around the picture..
Download Wallpaper Slideshow from Market. Use a file explorer program like ES or Root Explorer and make a folder called wallpapers. Move your wallpapers into that new folder and use the program to point into that folder. That should fix your problem.

i can't find the app I searched for wallpaper gallery on the market but couldn't find it
Grab a copy of wallpaper wizard from the market. I had the same frustrations as you before I found it but now life is good

Or get wallpaper slideshow, works really good.

I found out about this recently
I found those programs to slow down the xoom a lot. Scrolling through homescreens goes jerky etc.
In the end I wrote my own livewallpaper that just sets a completely static image as the background at full resolution without any cropping. When you turn in portrait it uses the center third of the image.
I think the issue with the other apps is on every frame update they appear to reload the image so it is acutally doing full screen animation but with the same image all the time. I made my wallpaper only reload the image when the orientation changes.
It's pretty buggy at the moment as if you load a massive image it will force close due to lack of memory. Also the wallpaper picture doesn't reload until you change orientation. If I get time to sort these bugs I'll put it up on the market.
Matt.

I know that the resolution of SGT is 1200x1024
but I still found that images in this size is still a bit blur after being set as wallpaper
I definitely sure that I've crop the whole image while I set it as wallpaper
This is the original wallpaper I downloaded, and the attached one is my home screen, showing that the wallpaper is a bit blur
http://androidandme.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/perf-aam-tablet.png
Is there any solution?
I just still know it from the Nook Color,
there the resolution was 1280*1024,
and if I used Wallpaper Set and Save there was no blur.
The gallery has that issue, don't use the gallery to set the wallpaper. Grab QuicPic from the market, it's free, fast, awesome and sets wallpapers without any issue

Just installed CM7. Only have one issue so far and granted it's minor, but annoying. I'm only using one home screen. When i install a wallpaper CM wants to set it alot wider than the screen and all the nook specific wallpapers get cropped funny. Is there a way to adjust the system so that the wallpaper crops to the actual screen size rather than the CM preset crop?

And is there an easy way to hide or remove some of the CM7 preinstalled apps?

I don't think what i'm asking is possible evidently.
Just want the wallpaper to be able to use the screen size portrait wallpaper and not the widescreen aspect ratio that ADW or whatever is forcing me to use.
Dodol wallpaper maker will work with any dimension image. Though it worked great in Eclair, but in Gingerbread it wants to reboot to set the wallpaper, but only in some cases.

the website interfacelift offers images in many different resolutions. Mine scales to three home screens. You could adjust images to your liking in almost any image editor and load many ways to your NC.
I know exactly what your Talking about and what I use is Perfect Viewer from Market. I know it's not obvious that it has the feature considering it's an Image/Comic viewer, but it works great and I already use it for other things so it was a bonus.

As you guys might have noticed, whenever you set a wallpaper using the default android gallery, it kinda compresses it and results in a low quality version of the pic as your wallpaper. I've found a workaround for this by using apps from the market to set my wallpaper with BUT all of those apps can only change my homescreen wallpaper and NOT the lockscreen wallpaper.
So my question is if any of you guys can tell me how to manually change my lockscreen wallpaper? I have a rooted device 2.3.5 btw. Thanks.
Menu-setting-display-screen display-lockscreen-wallpaper
No, I know how to change the lockscreen wallpaper. But like I've said, when you use that way, it lowers the quality of the picture you use. If I use a hi-def photo and set it as my lockscreen wallpaper, the quality loss is very obvious. Which is why I was asking if there was a workaround for this.
When you're about to change the wallpaper and the square box pops up, tap it and expand it.

no, that's not it either. regardless of how you crop it, if you use the default gallery app, the resulting wallpaper is compressed thus the quality loss
get a suitable hd wallpaper from the internet then save picture to gallery. When you set wallpaper to lockscreen choose gallery, find pic you have d/l and crop it accordingly. Remember to get the highest resolution wallpaper.
Hope the above helps

+1 to the question!!!
I wanna use the same wallpaper on the lockscreen & on the my launcher. I choose the picture, set it up as my wallpaper - in the laucher it's absolutely ok, but in the locksreen there are a lot of strange lines (bright & dark) over the wallpaper.
you need a wallpaper of atleast 1600*1000 resolution. If you can find one with an even higher resolution, better still.
Just follow instructions of my earlier post

Of course I have a high-res wallpaper!
But the quality is much worse on the lockscreen than on the launcher's homescreen.
Maybe light wallpapers are ok, but the dark (like mine) is laggy.
anyone knows where the default wallpapers are saved to? cant seem to find the default lock screen wallpaper (of the pen and notebook)...
low resolution for a purpose
do you think the lock screen uses a lower resolution for a reason. that screen basically is displayed for just a few seconds and kinda floats on top of an already high resolution main screen. just a theory that it's supposed to be lower quality graphic.
You can use Quickpic which is free on the market to set the lockscreen. I don't see any reduction of resolution.

again guys, the issue is not with the cropping or with the image quality i'm using. it's with android gallery app compressing the picture i want to use.
@holgalee
thanks, that was exactly what i was looking for!
How about WidgetLocker? A guy posted a screenshot of his completely black background that didn't have any of the ugliness many are reporting of. But it costs money, and i don't know how you feel about apps that cost money, but you're holding a device that cost almost $1000
same problem here.
tried to have a black background on the lockscreen.
tried with a 1200x1600 bmp, png and jpg...
always the same ugly green and black stripes
none of that with galaxy s1 and s2, just with the galaxy note
what can i do to have full black background? dont want to use crappy alternative lockscreen, want to use the native android lockscreen
It won't help with a 5500x3500 wallpaper as long as the default gallery app is compressing the image. It will still look like ****.

I had the same issue on my S2; completely stupid really. Now I have my lockscreen wallpaper automatically change when I modify my [active] wallpaper.
The Gallery app needs to be fixed.
It's still crap on the note 2, anyone who's found a solution?
If it is the black clipping problem? Note shows lockscreen wallpaper a bit darker than normal wallpaper so theres possibility you only notice it on lockscreen.
Found one that looks okay so i am using that
Hello,
Has anyone experienced a problem trying to set a wallpaper in portrait orientation from QuickPic? In my case, if I browse the gallery in QuickPic, find the picture and try to use the HTC Gallery (Sense 5.5, Android Revolution HD 53), it simply doesn't open. If I try to use QuickPic itself, it only allows me to crop using a fixed landscape cropper.
Please give me some ideas how to get rid of this annoyance.
Thanks!

Yeah. I get the same thing. Unfortunately I think it's an issue with QuickPic. I think its default is to assume that the homescreen is to use scrollable wallpaper, so when you swiped through your different homescreens the wallpaper would shift along with it. That's how it was on my previous phone (HTC Inspire). And it's not actually setting it to landscape by rotating the dimensions. It's setting the width at 2x the screen size. The screen dimension of my Inspire was 480x800. If I wanted to use scrollable wallpaper, I would choose an image 960x800.
Since the m7 doesn't use scrollable wallpaper in the stock launcher (and I don't think there's an option to turn that on, but I could be wrong), QuickPic kinda screws that up. So it's better to use the stock Gallery app to set wallpaper. It will set the correct aspect ratio with the crop tool. Open the Gallery app, find the pic you want to use then set as Wallpaper (not QuickPic Wallpaper). Or you can go into System Settings>Personalize>Wallpaper, Select Wallpaper from Gallery.
On a related note, some 3rd party launchers allow you to set the wallpaper to be a single screen or scrollable. I use Go Launcher and if I have it set to single screen, I can use QuickPic to set the wallpaper and it sets the crop tool with the proper portrait aspect ratio.
Thanks, sharksfan7! I figured it might be something of the sort. I'll send a note to the QuickPic developer, maybe he/she will be able to sort this in a future update.

However, that brings me to my second question: the stock Gallery app does not open if I browse to the pic in QuickPic and try to set it as a "Wallpaper". Any idea what might be causing this? Anyone?

Noticed that as well. Again, probably a QuickPic issue. If you have Google+ installed you'll probably see a "Wallpaper" option using Google Pictures in that Set As list as well. If I select that, the whole thing just crashes.
If you go directly into the Gallery when you want to set wallpaper it works as it's supposed to.

Strangely after reading this, I went to QuickPic to have another go at setting a wallpaper and the 'crop box' was in portrait mode! Either coincidental or random update or I just chose the right picture!!
Hi
Just a tip a wanna share.
I use Holo Launcher HD instead of TWiz Magazine i removed.
But impossible to have a beautiful wallpaper with great HD definition. Crop tool blurs my wallpapers everytime.
So, to have something great to fit this great screen resolution, try this tip.
Download Simple Image Wallpaper from Google Play :
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ridgelineapps.simpleimagewallpaper&hl=fr
Define a 2560*3200 image, but only the middle will be displayed !(center your 2560*1600 image in the middle of your 2560*1600 image). Wallpaper will not scroll.
Find Simple Image Wallpaper under Animated Wallpaper (Long press on home screen)
Define your wallpaper.
You've got hi res wallpaper now !
Here's one of my favourite sample :

(Right click on computer, save as...)

Other sample, UK Grunge Flag :

I really enjoy google launcher, they integrated google home into a swipe screen, nice feature.

I found the app- image to wallpaper- works well. They also have -image to wall paper live- for using a gif file as wallpaper. Both are free.

I've just been going to 4walled.cc and specifying a 2560x1600 or greater resolution and then cropping whatever I want to my liking.
I've been using Chainfire's free 500 Firepaper app which downloads high-resolution images from the 500px web site. Lots of options for type of picture to display and how often they're updated. The photos always look great & focused.
Cool tips thanks!
