i have rooted my phone using the one click method but i dont know how to change the boot animation, specifically i want to have the nexus one boot animation
1. Dl the first link. It is the non flashable one.
2. Make sure it is named bootanimation.zip.
3. Move the .zip to /system/media with the file manager of your choice and paste. If named correctly it will ask if you want to overwrite the exsisting file. Say yes.
4. Reboot and enjoy.
Also, this should probably be in q&a.

/system isn't on your sd card. Like two spots below /sdcard when you open your file explorer.

I've been working on this on & off since last week. The sound and animation have to be applied seperately. I'll post it once I get the animation speed fixed better.
2011 Stanley Cup Champion Boston Bruins!!!
This was my first attempt at making a boot animation and it's not quite perfect. It is a compilation of .png's from 3 different boot animations from 2 different devices. I'm working on a version in blue to go with my Dark Horse themed roms and my Honey Comb 3D themed roms, which hopefully will play a little smoother, but for now this is what I have. Thanks to Il Duce for the instruction on getting the boot sound to work and thanks to Laie 1472 for helping me troubleshoot the animation when it wouldn't play. Make sure you make a nand backup before you do this, because if you don't get the sound part right, you could bork the rom.
Part 1....The Animation. Download it below and follow User 7618's directions to apply it to /system/media.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/30200380/bootanimation.zip
Part 2....The Sound. Do not deviate from these instructions. Download the 2 files below.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/30200380/android_audio.mp3
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/30200380/bootsnd.sh
Now move the android_audio.mp3 file to /system/media and move the bootsnd.sh file to the root of your sd card. Open up Terminal Emulator and using the default system keyboard (not swype, slide it, etc..) type the following command lines, pressing enter 1 time at the end of each line.
su
cd /sdcard
sh bootsnd.sh
reboot
Your phone will now reboot with the droid animation and the "dolby THX" test sound. You may now switch the bootsound to the "droid" boot sound. Download the droid.mp3 below, rename it to android_audio.mp3, and move it to /system/media overwriting the current android_audio.mp3 file.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/30200380/droid.mp3
Reboot your phone and enjoy the droid bionic eye animation with sound.
A sup hockeyfamily. Hope all is well. Im a waiting to test that blue one out.

Ahhh.....Hopefully this weekend. I been busy with Mrs. Hockey's Evo.....Driving me crazy.

Just as an fyi: boot animations can also be installed to /data/local. I've been putting them there for months. It's cool because then if you flashover a new rom version it stays in data, no reinstall needed. You only have to redo the sound.

adb shell cp /sdcard/com.htc.resources.apk /system/framework/
adb shell reboot
or console
mount /system/

this should be the same for the hero build you are on, but since the last hero build i downloaded was new vision revision 2 for a friends phone, i don't have a more current hero. with that said
it was in data/app_s/HtcLockScreen.apk/res in that folder there are 4 drawables. each of them contains parts to it. i would imagine you could just drop that .apk into another hero rom, sign it, and flash it.
though i would definitely make a nandroid first

thanks, what i actually ended up doing since both lockscreen.apk were the same i figured the "difference" i wanted laid somewhere else so through trial and error i figured it out.
it was the .com.htc.resources.apk from drizzy's rom that made the difference from an ARC lockscreen to a FULL lockcreen.
adb shell rm /system/framework/com.htc.resources.apk
adb shell cp /sdcard/com.htc.resources.apk /system/framework/

a bit pointless to show screenshots of something that is not there. the lockscreen just shows the info that is normally on the arc, but no arc (the png files have been replaced with transparent versions)
Big thanks to the OP. I was doing this myself but didn't know enough adb to get my revised graphics back on to the phone.

AGREED, this just removes the arc from your lockscreen and shows the complete image - leaving just date and time.
I'll post a screenshot later, I guess.

i have the transparent lockscreen also on mine hero rom
thanks!
console commands
So i unziped it to my sd card, but I can't remember if i put it in the root of my sdcard or if its in /sdcard/downloads, but I don't know the console command to list the directories or files in that folder, i know on ADB/terminal emulator its 'ls'
NVM i figured it out, had to also type mount /sdcard because it kept saying no such file, but mount /sdcard did the trick

dont modify the file in the actual rom - you'll get stuck in a boot loop due to the rom needing to be resigned.

Here's my first attempt at a boot image for the G1. It is sad, but true, that haters will, given the opportunity, hate.
As with so many other boot animations, this is not flashable. You have to push it via adb to /system/media.
Code:
adb remount
adb push C:\(location)\bootanimation.zip /system/media/bootanimation.zip
Enjoy, and do not let the haters break your stride.
Note, for the resized Evo boot you need the new Evo .zip (hurf durf), and the new adb command would be:
Code:
adb push C:\(location)\bootanimation-evo.zip /system/media/bootanimation.zip
If anyone has an Evo and this process is blindingly stupidly wrong, or if you flash it and it doesn't work, please tell me. I am poor and still live in the land of Dream. If you feel like buying me an Evo I will make you bootanims from here until the end of time, but until that happens I'm relying on other people for guineapigging it.
Also, if anyone that has permissions to do so felt like popping a .gif up, that would be lovely.
THANKS!

I literally had never tried adb before until maybe 5 minutes ago and I've already pushed the boot animation, so I'd give it a shot! (unless there's another reason you don't want to use adb?)
Download for the sdk: http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
I found this video on youtube (it's for mac users, but there are a ton for windows users too) and just followed what the guy said and was done: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=79F7hZkui6U

On CM based roms and some others, you copy it to /data/local/bootanimation.zip and you dont have to erase the default bootanimation.

Tried to change it and got the following:
D:\!Android\!BOOT_SCREEN>adb push d:\!Android\!BOOT_SCREEN\bootanimation.zip /system/media/bootanimation.zip
failed to copy 'd:\!Android\!BOOT_SCREEN\bootanimation.zip' to '/system/media/bootanimation.zip': Out of memory

i wish i know how to do it myself

i have tested this on my own vogue and it works great
thank you Kallt_Kaffe for the resizing
here is the links to droidlife

and there are also leaked live wallpapers for anyone who wants them
http://www.droid-life.com/2010/09/08/download-leaked-r2-d2-live-wallpapers/
I'll have a look at the bootanimation. I have the resizing tools needed so it's usually a few commands at the command line.
Here you go... not tested though... resized to 240x427 then cropped to 240x320.
EDIT: Tested it on my QVGA Huawei U8100 and it worked just fine so it should work OK.

I am using the stock rom and my phone is rooted using universal androot version 1.6.2 beta5 (search for 1-click root for N1 to find this it will work on this phone) you have to install super user then you need root explorer found in the market. Now on to how to install this.
1) Install universal androot and the root explorer run universal androot to get your phone rooted you may chose soft root which only lets you temporary root till you reboot (dont worry it will not void your warrenty)
2) Download kyocera zio m6000.zip at the bottom of this post and extract it to a folder on your pc
3) Copy the folder to the root of your sd card
4) Open up root explorer and click on /data/FLEX/bootanimation
5) Copy Startup_Sound_M6000.ogg from the folder you copied to your sd card to the /data/FLEX/bootanimation folder overwriting the one in there
6) Next goto /data/FLEX/bootanimation/assets folder and copy all the png files from the folder you copied to your sd card to the assets folder over writing the ones in there
7) Exit out of root explorer and reboot your phone to see your new boot up screen and enjoy the first mod for this phone. (Note im not sure why the android screen dont show up no more when none of the files that was replaced was the android png files only the cricket png files are replaced)

Remove some unwanted apps or apps that came on the stock rom that are worthless to you i removed the demo games that the company put on it and that gave me enough free space you need 6.50 mega bytes free to use this i made it as small as i could with out making it look like crap. you can remove some of the apps from /data/app i would recomend to back up the files before u delete them in case u have to put them back.
I have tried to copy the new pngs to the assets folder, but every time. I do, the original files replace the new ones. The closest I got was when I rebooted and I saw the first png of the original cricket boot animation, then it skipped all but the very last one of the new png I attempted to install.
Can anybody help me?

Apparently, the same number of images as the original must be used?
I tried one of my own, using boot screen found elsewhere on XDA that had more images. Didn't work.
Going to play around w/ the images today, reduce the count to the same as the original and see if that's indeed the case.
Or maybe it was the size of the images. I dunno yet.
Doesn't do a thing to my Cricket Zio.

Well, the 2.2 thread appears to refer to the windows downloader, with which I have two problems:

2) To do this, it appears I need to get into USB debug mode. I'm stuck in fastboot.
What I think I really need is the stock ROM from the Sanyo Zio. Does somebody here have this?

I'm wondering if ReactOS is far enough along to run the updater. Will have to give it a try, liveCD.
No go. Booted the live CD, couldn't access any of the media devices to access the update tool.
Hmm
but listen, I can't get the phone into USB debug mode, so how can I run the updater? At the moment I'm stuck with fastboot. Normal boot is black screen, no response of any kind, no adb.
Turn the phone off, hold volume up down and power and your phone will bopt into modem download mode. Then update.

but listen, I can't get the phone into USB debug mode, so how can I run the updater? At the moment I'm stuck with fastboot. Normal boot is black screen, no response of any kind, no adb.

Sent from my Zio using XDA App
Hey XDA, been away for a while and just finished my first semester of college. Checked up on my old thread to find alot of positive things. A while back I wanted to do more with this and never got around to it, but figured it was about time I did...
The new animation starts somewhat similarly to the old one with added transition between the HTC logo and the vortex. Also after the vortex, instead of a static image at the end I've thrown together a completely new piece that will loop until the phone finally decides to start.
This version also uses JPGs rather than PNGs. I just found out JPGs could be used the other day... After optimizing the PNGs, (something that wasn't considered for the old one) this new one comes out to a total of 234MB... (one of those things that happen when you only use AfterFX for the project...) If anyone would like this anyway... Let me know and I'll put it up somewhere.
I also made a basic splash screen, something that was misadvertised with the old version. It is the first image in the attachments and can be installed thru bootloader. (http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?37e8as4f4m68cwu)
Download: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?w1ci9p2ugk7271d
If you would like the stock sound to use with this download it from the attachments below, extract the mp3 and add it to /system/media.
GIFs were 4-5MB each so heres a video instead...
Old version has been moved to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20568970 if anyone wants to check it out.
Thanks for the link, and if you get a chance to try it out let me know how you like it
This is [email protected]$$! Way better then the stock bootanimation
Great work!

How to I install this? HBoot or Recovery? I know sometimes you need to rename it to the PG0059 thing (I know it's not right) and I'm just curious before I go screwing anything up

I personally used clockwork recovery and did install sdcard/update.zip
Place the update.zip from the download onto the root of the sd card, then in ROM manager, reboot into recovery and install the update.
There are alternatives to this such as just putting the bootanimation.zip into the right folder using root explorer, but I ran into permission problems so I did it this way.
If you have any other questions feel free to ask.

Thanks alot bud! Thats what I thaught but I figured I would ask before doing anything. Looks sick- thanks for posting!
EDIT: Just flashed it and it looks amazing! Definitley a keeper! I like how fast it spells "quietly brilliant" (I hate slow screens) and the animations on the boot animation is just plain awesome. ++++1
DUDE this is sweeet! Thanks!
Glad you guys like it. Are you using the stock sound with it. Seems like it would work good with this, but I lost it when I flashed to the ROM I'm on >.>
yes stock sound and it is perfect!

Yeah same here, the stock sound works great with it
Is this new boot animation really 24MB? Like, I yanked it out of the update .zip because I normally move them with Root Explorer. I find easier, and I have a system to doing this where I save the old ones in the folder and just rename them. Allowing me to swap them out at will by simply altering the name of the bootanimation . zip back to that.
-Edit- NVM. I see why it's 24MB now.
Holy effing sh!t cakes! That's a lot of graphical content to run through there in the beginning. Looks awesome though!
Again, just to anyone reading this that hasn't tried this boot animation yet.
THIS BOOT ANIMATION IS AWESOME!

Glad you like it. I would have done the same using root explorer, but I ran into read only and permission problems for anything i tried to use it with. And I really tryed to lower the size the best I could... It was originally 165mb, then found out it was rendering w/o compression (lossless), changed render settings managed to get to 95mb... to get it to 24mb I lowered the quality a little more and it skips every other frame. After uploading it I attempted to make it smaller but all i can do is lower the quality even more, and at 17mb it looked pretty bad.
PS- could someone link me to the stock FinalThunder.mp3 I haven't had it since I flashed my ROM

No I wasn't *****ing about the size. I was checking to make sure I didn't bork something up extracting it. I was just verifying as most of them are 2-6MB.
Here's the Final Thunder .mp3
I ripped it right from the system folder with RE so it should be good. Make sure you check the permissions though. As they may need to be altered to get it to jive with the way it gets read. It should be;
X-X-[0]
X-[0]-[0]
X-[0]-[0]
I think.
X meaning checked.
I had to rar it to post it.
Edit: Yes, that's the way the permissions need to be above, but when it gets extracted it changes them to;
[0]-[0]-[0]
X-X-X
X-[0]-X
So if you just drop it in there it probably WON'T WORK. Make sure you change the permissions!
Again, thanks for the awesome boot animation!
Thanks, I just now noticed the mount r/w button at the top of root explorer >.>
I also did all of this before I saw the post edit, so I did just throw it in there, but it still worked =o
Now I can see the bootscreen everyones been thanking me for lol... Thanks again for the sound clip =)

Hardly a fair trade for the kick ass boot animation. But no problem.
Yeah, many moons ago RE owned me until I found that little mount r/w button. After finding it however it's been an extremely useful tool.
I'm surprised the MP3 worked for you actually w/o changing permissions. :shrugs: I'm leaving the warning there in case someone else downloads it for the same purpose and it doesn't.
Which file or folder do i drop this into to make sound work. I am on gingeritis and had to delete the VZW_bootanimation and there is no sound once i swapped that boot animation out with this one?

It's either system/media
or
system/customize/resource
But I think it's system/media
Find the bootanimation .zip and that's where the sound file should go.
I tried putting it system/customize/resource and that didnt do anything so i will try system media I guess just put in the main file or any one of the sbu files I have
audio
GPU
weather
folders in there will try a few i guess?

If anyone wants to try this, it is a zip of the vortex boot animation hopefully with the sound. It is for anyone running a rom that has a boot animation in the system/customize/resource folder and the boot animation is labeled VZW_bootanimation.
Let me know how it goes please
My apologies if the OP does not want this and will take down if asked

I got the animation to work, but no thunder. Tried everything! I think it may be my current set up (gingeritits and imosyons 2.5.4.test.4 kernel) since day one, there's been no sound. It came with the old school PC looking bootanimation and I read somewhere that, that boot ani is supposed to sound like a disc drive spooling up with clicks n what not, but it never did. I remember on the virus Rom I had, it DID have sound and the .mp3 was called VRsound.mp3. I made my own, fixed permissions, renamed it to VRsound.mp3 and replaced it. That worked. I could be wrong, but because this ROM didn't come with sound in the first place, I just can't get it.... Oh well. Still a tight boot! sound or not!
