[ROM] [2.3.4 JVP] Gingerbread Blitzkrieg - Update 2 » 6/18/11 - Vibrant Android Development

So we don't have one of these yet and cmenard has inspired me
What's included
cmenard's gingerbread bullet kernel (1.2)
KB5 modem
fixed haptic feed back & fixed home button
power menu options
removed battery full notification
couple added apps (titanium being the most important)
CRT off animation & overscroll added of course
removed startup sound
Juwe's RAM script
rooted & busybox included
How To Install (with Bootloaders)
flashed GB bootloaders (be careful!) - thanks adyscorpius
flashed cmenard's kernel via heimdall
rebooted into recovery & flashed
rejoiced
How to install without bootloaders
ok ladies, thanks to the wonderful cmenard you can do it!
put rom on your internal SD for flashing
flash Bullet-1Ghz-NRB-v2-voodoo.tar with heimdall or odin
this is a gingerbread kernel that does not rainbow, get into recovery and flash the ROM
the ROM will flash the newest kernel (which will give you rainbows without gingy bootloaders)
if you want to get rid of them just flash Bullet-1Ghz-NRB-v2-voodoo.tar again, but be aware your camera will not work
Bullet-1Ghz-NRB-v2-voodoo.tar is NOT a CWM flashable. It will NOT boot into the ROM correctly. It is used to flash Gingerbread ROMs & use recovery for Gingerbread. So if you don't have GB bootloaders installed and need to use CWM. You may want to flash it. Flash your desired ZIP. Then flash GB_Bullet back. It's a pain but that's how it's gotta be for now.
I included the tar file (which should work in ODIN, stick it in PDA and don't touch anything else), but I just flashed the zImage straight through heimdall.
What doesn't work?
GP FRACKIN S - oh wait, it does
Oh, and my extended power menu I think I messed up somewhere, and everything only reboots. Sorry.
everything else seems to work
Changelog
update 2
--EDT settings now accessibly from System settings window, removed from icons tray
--added Whitehawks 9 lock screens
--newest kernel
--included gps fix (mostly, I may have missed a file, if it doesn't work, just flash the fix )
--added a couple apps (spare parts, titanium, etc)
--included hacked cam & browser (found on I9K forums)
--3D fix too
update 1
--included my statusbar mods as posted on I9K forums
--included my permission script
--included newer kernel which fixes USBActivityManager issue visible in logcat
--optimized a few APKs & frameworks
Download Update 2

As always, read, wear a helmet, and don't do anything stupid. ಠ_ಠ
If you do not flash the bootloaders, you will see rainbows making it almost impossible to see the recovery from the kernel. I am not responsible for you breaking your device!
NRB kernel means no rainbow. It is used if you don't want to flash bootloaders. Flash it, then flash the ROM. The ROM will flash a new kernel (which will give you rainbows). If you need to access CWM you can flash the NRB one again, but your camera will not work on it.

Woohoo checking it out!

When we flash the bootloaders from stock, should I untick the auto-reboot button, then remove the battery, go into dl mode, flash the kernel with auto-reboot unticked, go to recovery and flash the rom, is that okay?

Thanks Birger!
Shame the GPS is still not working....I had read a post a few days back stating that the GB ROM for the i9000 had working GPS but phone calls were not working!
Hopefully one of these days it will have working GPS....whilst it's not the best on our phones, I still use it everyday and can't do without it.

That was the honeycomb port and come to find out that due to using the i9000 gb drivers was the only reason the gps worked. This is also the reason why we can port the official gb rom over to our phone yet still not have gps. No official gb drivers for the vibrant from samsuck

Hmm, when I do the part when you flash the kernel, it doesn't want to flash, and when I try to boot the phone, it throws me into Phone ! PC (I can fix that by re-flashing the Froyo bootloaders).
I don't know why it won't flash the GB Kernel. :/

I'd suggest a reflash to stock JFD after flashing Froyo bootloaders, then reboot once.
Go back to download mode, flash GB bootloaders and follow Roman's instructions for the ROM...
If you've used CM7 or MIUI it seems to screw bootloader partitioning...

[ROM] CM7-Now BUILT for Vibrant-[5/01/2011]

CyanogenMod 7 - Android 2.3.4 AOSP
Notice: This is STILL a very experimental test release and has a lot of bugs which are listed below. If you are not comfortable using ODIN or are not sure how a lot of things work, please double think before flashing this.
Known bugs:
You can't get into recovery/download without the 3 buttons combo. (You can't from inside the ROM, so do NOT flash if you can't use the 3 button combo.)
Problems switching between 2G and 3G when data is connected. (You may get un-reliable data.)
Video playback may be choppy with some formats.
GPS is broken.
May have many other bugs that are unlisted.
Polling problem on RIL (Works after you lock and unlock your phone.)
USB Tethering is currently broken
Download:
05012011 (Latest): http://sourceforge.net/projects/teamhacksung/files/vibrant/
Installation:
1. Download the files above (initial install and the latest nightly update), once you have them, open the initial and it will have the following three files inside:
- vibrant-efsbackup.zip
- cm7-vibrant-initial-kernel.tar
- cm7-vibrant-initial-XXXXXXXX.zip
2. Extract them to your desktop.
3. Copy following two files to your internal sdcard;
- vibrant-efsbackup.zip
- cm7-vibrant-initial-XXXXXXXX.zip
4. Leave cm7-vibrant-initial-kernel.tar on your desktop for later use with ODIN.
5. Flash a kernel which comes with ClockworkMod Recovery using odin.
NOTE: If you already have ClockworkMod Recovery installed, skip the previous step. (5) ^
6. Reboot into recovery using 3-button-combo and apply vibrant-efsbackup.zip.
Note: Don't use "reboot recovery" command or other shiny things to do this! 3 button combo ONLY.
7. Put your phone in download mode and flash cm7-vibrant-initial-kernel.tar as pda using odin without auto-reboot and without re-partition. (Uncheck them.)
8. Reboot into recovery using 3-button-combo.
9. Choose "mounts and storage" and format the following: System, data, cache.
10. Apply zip from sdcard: cm7-vibrant-initial-XXXXXXXX.zip
11. Do a factory reset / data wipe!
12. Reboot!
13. You are now running CM7. Allow 15 minutes of the phone being turned on for the install to settle, then go into clockwork recovery again and flash the latest Nightly update. You should be able to flash it right on top of your initial install.
14. If desired, you should flash any additional kernels you wish to use NOW. Such a kernel is linked below under "Additional Kernels"
15. Reboot. Done.
Google Addon package (Flashable): (Install this to get the Market and other Google goodies.)
http://android.d3xt3r01.tk/cyanogen/gapps/gapps-gb-20110120-signed.zip
Additional Kernel:
theexel made an excellent topic about bilvboa's CM7 2.3.3 kernel which works with this and improves battery, adds voodoo sound & color among other bug fixes.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=982148
At this time, this is the recommended kernel to use with CM7. Install it after you have CM7 fully updated and working.

Nicee, Will test.
One question for those more technologically savvy than I. One step says to "Flash a Kernel with Clockworkmod recovery 2.X or 3.X osing odin", and it links to Eugene's dead horse. Do you think an Odin flash of that kernel is required (Since I haven't seen a recent kernel in .tar format or whatever), or would a CWM flash suffice (Since I assume it's meant so the efs-backup tool can be used)? It seems to me that the steps are meant to mirror those given for the GT-I9000 version, so I don't know if that Odin flash is required or if it's just matching the Odin flash of the "speed-mod" kernel. Also, if it is required, anyone have an Odin flashable CWM ready kernel?

I believe it wants you to flash the kernel they listed using Clockwork or ODIN. As you see, further down, you will flash ONCE again another kernel, this time the CM7 kernel which you will be using with the ROM.
The first kernel you are flashing is used for doing a backup of some files I believe. Hence, you can use most kernels is my understanding.
Also yes, the steps are a MIRROR of the I9000 steps and for a good reason. The I9000 steps work just FINE for installing CM7 on the Vibrant but you need to replace the I9000 kernel with the Vibrant CM7 kernel. That should be the only difference. If you don't, you will have your keys be reversed.

That was my first thought, since all you need to do is run the efs-backup.zip. It was just weird since it asked you to Odin the kernel rather than CWM flash it (But like I said, it really looks like he just copied the GT-I9000 steps and changed the .zip names). I know it's not the final kernel, but it just seemed odd to request an Odin of it. Oh well, off to test this build.
And I know the GT-I9000 build runs fine, since that's what I'm running now. I was just curious as to whether the idea was to Odin the kernel for some reason, or if the end goal was just to have a CWM enabled kernel to flash the efs backup.

[ROM/Port] DarkyROM v10.2 & v10.2.2 Final TouchWiz 4 [2.3.4 JVQ][11/20/2011]

I have always been a big fan of the Roms from Darkyy and Darkyy’s team so I decided to port to my Vibrant their latest stable Roms.
I ported this for my own personal use. But as I like it so much I decided to share it.
DarkyROM 10.2 Extreme Edition and DarkyROM 10.2.2 Extreme Edition [Touchwiz4]These Roms are both based on 2.3.4 JVQ for the I9000.
All the usually warnings, You are responsible for your phone, not me.
None of this is my work, I just made it Vibrant friendly.
Please thank the original developers
The modifications that I made so that DarkyRom would work on our Vibrants are:
- Included kernel: I9000 vibranted vG.3.0b by xcaliburinhand
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1299185
- Included modem: KB5
- Fixed key layout
- Fixed Haptic feedback - (thanks to hayn_pride46 for instructions)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1328306
- Added JVP GPS Fix by Romanbb and cmenard
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125857
Although the gps files are in the rom, I have not included cmenard’s bullet kernel.
If you want a working GPS follow the link and flash the Gingy GPS Fix as it includes the Bullet kernel. The first lock takes 15 minutes or so, then all is good.
- Edited build.prop to correctly identify T959 Vibrant
The Rom’s are smooth and fast. Totally up to Darkyy’s high standards
GPS works for me using bullet kernel, I can’t guaranty it will work for you.
I get good battery life, yours will vary

Read the links to the original post to know the differences. 10.2.2 is faster than 10.2, more stable and adds TW4.
Coming from CM7 you need to Odin back to stock, flash a Samsung based rom with voodoo kernel and convert all partitions to ext4.
CM7 is great for some people. I use it on my Nook, but for me on the Vibrant I get horrible battery life. I also like Touchwiz4.

Not much. You need to be able to use Odin coming from CM7. Both to get back to stock (always the case for coming back from a CM7 install to a Samsung based rom) and to get GB bootloaders (CM7 uses Froyo bootloaders)

If you already converted your partitions to ext4 in recovery of your 2.1, 2.2 rom (as required) it will remain converted through this process. When in 10.2 Download the VooDoo control app from the market. It has a menu choice to show you what partitions are ext4 and/or to convert partitions to ext4.

If you are running CM7 you are not running voodoo lagfix. Voodoo lagfix is for RFS/Ext4 partitions - CM7 is not.
You may have Voodoo sound/color but no lagfix.

Boot to a custom 2.2 / 2.2.1 ROM (IE Toxic8 or Project V)
Install Voodoo Control
It will have a "Voodoo Lagfix" section toward the bottom. It will list what partitions are etx4
Is there any way to increase speed?, since I'm only getting about 1000 quadrant score.

[REF][GUIDE]Another Way to Successfully Flash AOSP/AOKP/CM9 ICS Roms from Gingerbread

Until now we all had to use LP1 Repack as a stepping-stone between Gingerbread and custom ICS Roms.
However, thanks to thechints, we have found an easier way to get to a fully rooted AOSP/AOKP/CM ICS from Gingerbread.
The following procedure was tested by thechints, vviz, abhisahara, and moi, and it works.
It was tested on Stunner and CM9, but could work for any ICS Rom that currently has "flash LP1 Repack" as one of the steps in its flashing instructions.
I emphasize the word 'could'. Give it a try and tell us what happened. The suggested method is safe insofar as it won't brick your device. You have a safe way back to GB via nAndroid backup or PC Odin if it fails.
The only tool that you need for the following procedure to work is AbyssNote 4.2 Kernel --> props to angelom and Chris X.
Get AbyssNote 4.2 kernel HERE.
Do not use earlier AbyssNote Kernel versions for the following procedure.
So, how to do it?
When on any rooted GB Rom:
First and foremost
Double- and triple-check if you have proper GB root!
Do not put faith in the fact that your Titanium Backup or some other root app works.
Do not use various root checkers from the Market.
Do that by trying to paste a file in /system folder -that's the only way for you to really know.
If you can do the pasting, you have root. If not, this thread is not for you.
I got several PMs from users who managed to achieve soft-bricks while still on GB. They tried to
flash AbyssNote kernel and got stuck. Do not let that happen to you.
After that:
1. download AbyssNote 4.2 kernel and place it on your internal/external SD Card
Also download the ICS Rom you want to install and put it on your SD card.
2. reboot to CWMR (press and hold volume up + home + power button) and do a backup of your current system
3. after your backup is done, stay in Recovery
4. go to install a zip from SD card --> select AbyssNote 4.2 zip and flash it
5. go back to CWMR's root menu --> advanced --> reboot recovery
6. you'll find yourself in AbyssNote's Touch Recovery (select options by tapping them, not by using the volume rocker and home button)
7. factory reset --> wipe cache --> wipe dalvik
9. flash the ICS Rom of your choice
10. reboot and let the Rom settle for a couple of minutes
Now comes the important part...check if you have root.
Start any Explorer with root permissions (Root Explorer, Es Explorer, X Explorer etc.).
Copy any file (a picture, txt file, MP3, whatever).
Navigate to /system folder
Change the /system folder's permissions to R/W.
Paste the file you have copied into /system.
If the pasting goes through OK, you're fully rooted.
Delete the file you've just pasted and set /system as R/O again
And that's it. Enjoy your rooted ICS Rom.
Once again, massive thanks to thechints, abhisahara, vviz and ubiquitous Dr. Ketan.
What to do if this procedure doesn't work, i.e. you don't get full ICS root
As we all know, our Notes are quirky devices. What works for most doesn't necessarily have to
work for your phone. So, if you fail to get full root:
Option 1. You will still have 90% functional ICS on your Note. Your phone will do all the usual stuff
normally. You'll probably even be able to use root apps, like Titanium. However, bear in mind that
you are stuck in the Rom you have just flashed - there is no going anywhere because your CWMR
doesn't have proper root privileges to flash things - DO NOT USE CWMR.
What you won't be able to do on your Note is
- apply themes and mods (because that involves flashing stuff through CWMR with no proper root)
- change DPI settings on your Note (you won't be able to switch to tablet mode, for instance)
Everything else should work properly. If you can live with that for a couple of weeks until the
official ICS arrives, then fine. Relax and enjoy your Rom.
Option 2. If you can't stand the thought that you don't have full root permissions then
- you can try to reboot to CWMR, flash AbyssNote 4.2 again, and try to run a GB restore.
This doesn't have high chances of success, but all is not lost even if it fails. Then
- you can use PC Odin to flash pre-rooted KJ1 stock Rom as explained by Dr. Ketan.
dr.ketan said:

- Connect the SGN to your computer
- Make sure "repartition" is NOT checked
- Click the START button
- Wait for the phone to reboot TWICE
- Done.

What does it have to do with Neo's new kernel?
So we don't need to flash cf repack through mobile Odin or PC odin anymore and just flash 1st Abyte kernel, then 2nd flash any rooted & custom ics roms? Is it correct? What is your recommended ics custom rom would u suggest?

If Neo's kernel root sticks properly, one should be able to flash an ICS Rom straight from GB, just like you would flash a GB rom from another GB rom. No need for Abyss, Repack etc.

Meaning any custom & rooted ics rom will not cause any bootloop..etc when do this directly with CF Repack. I have heard some users mentioning in other threads that bootloop will be there is no CF repack LP1 before flashing any ICS roms.......

Might be true but I honestly doubt that, as the key factor here is the recovery which I don't think Neo would use, I think he will use CWM Recovery but we shall see..

Wht i understand is you want to flash a custom ICS rom on your note.
First of all..
Get root.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360
Stick with the instructions.
After doing this you will have root+cwm installed on your lovely note.
Now download Abyss 4.2 from here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1362424
Now download custom ics rom from android development section and put it in your phone sd card or external card.
Reboot into recovery.
Flash abyss 4.2
Go to advanced and reboot recovery.
Now you have abyss redpill recovery or touch cwm.
Do all 3 wipes. Cache, Dalvik and data.
Flash rom
Reboot system

Criskelo ICS v9 trouble
Hi,
I installed criskelo v9 on my phone just now..and titanium backup doesnt work..it says i do not have root permissions
now all my apps are on it and the phone is pretty pointless without it..
I tried installing abyssnote and franco kernel just to see if it works but the update gets stuck at "installing packages" and then reboots to system to the earlier settings..
the cwm i have right now is also not the touch version and my kernel is cf-root so i do not know if i should be reflashing criskelo directly on this to check for any difference..
PLease tell me what i need to do..I am lost and could not find anything after an hour of googling

I followed the instructions to the T.. Root permissions didnt happen..Here's what i did..
1. Downloaded CWM and busybox and placed them where he said
2. Booted into recovery and installed CWM
After this the UI didnt change to the touch UI as he indicated but was still the button UI
3. ANyway went ahead and installed busybox from the zip
Here the progress was stuck at "unmounting system" till the phone reboot itself to the system..And i still dont have root permissions as per titanium..

Hi, what i really want is root permission so i can use criskelo as my ROM..I was using gb (checkrom v6 with abyss) till now and thought of upgrading to ICS...if i get root permissions i can restore my apps using titanium and my problem wil be solved..titanium is currently saying i dont have root permissions and not restoring my apps...
Of course i will want to change kernels too to mix and match my requirements with battery life later on...
If your desire is to just get rooted, then download the Abysskernel touch zip file* : http://downloadandroidrom.com/file/...rnel/AbyssNotekernel42CWTouchOriginalLogo.zip
Saved it in your external SD card and install it using Recovery Mode
After that, your phone should restart and check after if you have SU(Superuser) and CWM installed. If you do have it.. Rest assured your phone is already rooted.

Thats where the problem is..i have tried installing that file multiple times..it gets stuck at "installing update" and reboots into the system..
Within the phone i already have CWM (as the app) in my phone but it says it cannot work coz i need cf-root v5 or newer for it to work...can i use the LRG file as given in this forum to change the kernel?

file name : CF-Root-SGN_XX_DBT_LRG-v5.6-CWM5 (i had chosen the LRG modem while installing criskelo v9)
Are there different kernels for ICS and GB and maybe im trying the wrong file?
Also right now all i want is the root..but i also wanna be able to rollback to gb later and try other roms as per my convenience if i dont like criskelo..so any guidance keeping that in mind for the future will b much appreciated

What is your current ROM now? stock DXLRG? if it is, yes you can flash that kernel on your link (using mobile odin pro). Try to check back after thru CWM if it still gives you the same message or not.
Yes, there are different kernels solely for ICS only and also solely for GB alone. Don't make a mistake in mixing a GB kernel to your ICS Rom or else your phone gets fried.

I am right now on Criskelo ICS v9..
The exact problem on my phone (id mentioned earlier too) is that its like its semi-rooted..things like cpuspy etc work..but titanium backup and moble odin dont..my main motive is to have titanium working so i can use the phone normally..
Now i see that criskelo has just launched v10.1 of the same ROM which has solved the semiroot+wifi issue..download is in progress and It wud be great to know how i can move on to that now..
Abyssnote kernel is not installing (stuck at "installing update" ) and as per my knowledge the phone isnt rooted (coz titanium backup and mobile odin dont work)..
Can i rollback to prerooted gb (i have this file: Rooted_Stock_Odex_N7000DDLB2 - nonwipe gb ROM) via PC odin to initiate the whole process again under present circumstances?
Whole process here meaning *prerooted gb+abyssnote kernel+criskelo v10.1 install*..
PS - i did all wipes while installing the present ROM (if it matters)..
Yes, you have what we call it here as a semi rooted phone. Not getting all the permissions to access system files inside. It's a good thing though that Criskelo has a new version to his ROM and that should be appropriate in installing it.
Can you rollback to pre rooted GB? Yes you can. Just pick the appropriate GB ROM. And oh by the way bud, stay clear on fully wiping your phone... Remember your walking in a thin line here when your flashing Custom ICS ROMs...
Just a heads up, that's all.
Cheers!

first, let's tackle your second question. If your on Criskelo ICS now, please under NO circumstances, YOU DO NOT FULLY WIPE your phone before going back to the pre rooted GB. There's a bug circulating around the forum and it's called the SUPER BRICK BUG. It'll fry your emMC chip (on your phone) thereby making it as a dead paper bag. There are countless of folks here already that have succumbed to the bug. Most have returned their dead phone back to Samsung Repair for an exchange on the motherboard. That is how deadly this bug can sting your phone.
So stay away from it. (It's better late than never, mind you)
on your first question,
Use PC Odin to downgrade to a pre rooted GB one. That's it.
Cheers!

Once ya get back to Stock KK4 (and maybe get Root if u wanna try that again), u probably need to stop there until u read up and get comfortable with the flashing processes etc. before u move on any further.

You can't restore stock ROM (2.3.x) from CM10.1 (4.2.2). Different Android versions use different partitions. As mentioned in posts above, easiest way to go back to stock is Odin one-click file. No need to flash bootloaders again, so use version without bootloaders. In order to restore your CM10.1 backup you need to flash CM10.1 ROM first (to repartition), then flash same CM10.1 ROM one more time. When installing process is done, go ahead and restore your CM10.1 backup. No need to reboot the phone, nor install gapps. When restoring is complete, reboot the phone. Now you're back to your CM10.1 setup where you started from.

You can go lower, just gotta follow certain steps.
As for what you need to do, it was already all provided to you. I suggest you read through it a few times, make sure you fully understand it and then proceed with flashing.
That being said, right more you can do exactly what i told you and flash odin kk4 without bootloaders to have a working phone.

Rogers stock 2.3.3 Odin one-click is available also in sticky threads, if you prefer Rogers ROM. Just do a quick search.
