I have been a fan of HTC Androids for two reasons. First, I love Sense. Second, there is always an option in the stock browser to turn off the Mobile View for web pages. Is there a browser available for NC that will allow me to do that? Or am I just missing something obvious with this one?

On the stock browser in the address bar type "about:debug" without the quotation marks and press enter. Nothing will change on the browser yet. Now go to your settings> UAString and now you can select Linux Desktop and you will no longer have mobile view. I have done this on multiple android devices and it works the nook color as well.
Dolphin-Browser HD has extensions, including a User-Agent switcher, which lets you switch between android and desktop user-agents by taping a single icon.
Stock browser has user agents, I'm using Mac Desktop.

That sounds useful. How do I go about enabling that? Is it an add-on?
I currently have my user-agent set to custom ("WIN") to get Hulu to work, but it bothers me that a lot of web pages show up all squirrelly. Being able to stick with desktop and then quickly switch to WIN when watching Hulu would be awesome.
I prefer Dolphin Browser HD as well. It works really well on the Nook Color screen. Also, like what others said, extensions allow for customizations.

I'm an Opera fan myself.
Love Opera too, it is so fast and smooth. But hate you can't change the user agent string and get stuck loading mobile pages for some sites. Opera would be perfect to me if they'd ever add such a basic feature.
Opera user here too.
Stumbled on this one Lunascape browser. They make a version for iPhone and iPad but no Android.

Google and ye shall receive.
I've mainly tried out stock, Opera Mobile, and DolphinHD, and found myself going back to DolphinHD, so it's now my default.
Opera mobile for sure. the Page loading and rendering is GPU accelerated, and is the only browser that has decent smoothness. How people can use Dolphin/Stock after using Opera is beyond me......

Exactly.
I guess not too many people bother with the rather difficult way of setting the User Agent in Opera Mobile. But it's by far the smoothest and fastest browser out there.

Opera Mobile not Opera Mini right?
+1 for Opera.
Latest versions of Dolphin HD have been buggy. That page loading bug was a show-stopper. I think its fixed in 5.1. but Opera has always felt like a smoother experience. I do like the gestures in Dolphin though...is there a page up option in Opera that I'm not aware of (to jump you to the top of the page/address bar)?
The stock browser needs tabbed browsing. The current window system makes it feel clunky as hell. Performance wise it feels slower than the other two browsers as well.

What are my options for alternative browsers? What I dislike the most about the stock browser on this thing is that a lot of sites go into "mobile" mode. I dont spend 30 bucks a month to browse a dumbed down version of the internet
This is my first smartphone
EDIT: ok so i went with dolphin. is there a function similar to "about:debug" in dolphin. i know that in dolphin i can scroll down and hit classic view but i would rather have it always on.
Skyfire has the option to toggle between one or the other. Dunno about any others

Great tips above but i think there are plenty of other alts like Firefox (in beta), Skyfire (mentioned earlier), Dolphin (also mentioned earlier) and also the Opera Family (Mini, which is compressed on their servers or some nonesense like that, and Mobile, which is a full fledged browser) I like Firefox because i use it at home and its actually has a nice UI unlike some other browsers. Skyfire has video, and Dolphin is just solid. I'm not a huge fan of the Opera family but they are still good
Xfire browser let's you choose exactly what version of a site you see, whether its mobile, Android, regular, heck you can even spoof yourself as an iPhone.

1. Mobile sites are much more convenient and are usually designed for the smaller screen res and a limited selection methods or touch screens.
2. Type in "about:debug" into the url bar. Then hit menu->more->settings->UAString (down at bottom) -> select desktop. You may now type in "about:debug" to remove the extra dialogue options.
I, personally, wouldn't say it's dumbed down... It's streamlined for use on mobile devices. (loads quicket, better interface for device)
Yeah, you might miss mobile sites pretty soon.
xScope and Dolphin are the best IMO. You can easily toggle mobile in either. Skyfire is worth keeping in the app drawer for flash video every now and then.

I tried this app on my Captivate a week ago and it was too buggy to use. Constant server connect issues and saying it was my turn but when I would make a play it would say it is not my turn. Notifications suck. Wordfeud works well although it will only work in portrait mode. but it works well including notifications.

It forced close on me when I wanted to use the Facebook widget. Remove the Widget and everything seems to be working fine for me. They seriously need to make a tablet facebook app though.
That or get the Browser sorted so that it stays on the full version of facebook when you navigate away from the opening page. That is frustrating for me

The nook apps works fine on the xoom on this end, also the kindle app.
also the VEVO app looks really nice on the XOOM, but at times it force closes and they should add support of FULL HD also.
Anyone else noticing problems streaming HD videos? Especially on Youtube app, it seems like Xoom is not buffering enough. I've got it wifi connected to a 24mb/s connection and its talking to router at 54mb/s. Wonder if there is something I can do?

No, you are not the only one. I used Opera and Dolphin previously, and after flashing multiple ROMs, I find that the stock browser does everything I want and need just as good as Dolphin or Opera.
I've tried several browsers, but the stock browser is just fine for my uses.
Stock is less bloated too.
i'm still waiting for my first android tablet thus cannot provide an answer, but what problem does the stock browser have? I guess it must be pretty good being probably I guess (?) a derivative from google's chrome, or not?
I use dolphin hd because of bookmarks to sd and lastpass plugins.

I have been experimenting with all the others, I just keep going back to the stock browser--It just Works!
I am playing around with Firefox now.
I like the stock browser but the ability to Titanium Backup a 3rd party browser 100% intact with all my bookmarks, settings, saved browsing history, passwords etc if I need to wipe and re-flash Android is extremely helpful.
Along with whatever features using a 3rd party browser brings, this simple ability alone makes it worth it for me to use another browser.
I know you can use Titanium Backup with the Android apps but that it can also cause instability and other issues, so that's why I don't do it.
I mostly favor the stock browser too. I can't stand Opera, it's fast but the text rendering is terrible and the interface is sloppy. I've been using Dolphin Mini over the past few days and so far I'm liking it, but I'm not about to commit to it by removing the stock browser.
Stock does do pretty much everything with no fuss, but I'll say Dolphin Mini's interface is clean and the tabs are nice. I can't afford to give up the screen space for tabs on my phone's 4 inch display, but it's not an issue on the Nook.
I've tried a bunch of other browsers as well, and so far Dolphin Mini is the only contender to replace stock.
Unless I'm missing some setting, I feel like tabbed browsing is very poorly implemented in the stock browser. Its an easy enough fix to add it to the address bar so that you don't have to click through menus.
Opera and Dolphin HD also feel (subjectively) faster to me. Dolphin HD has gestures which is nice...especially the page up and page down.
Being able to jump to the top of a page by taping the top of the screen like in Safari iOS would be nice. Scrolling is kind of a pain in the but on all of the Android browsers I'd tried.
I have Dolphin HD as a secondary browser but I still think stock is so much cleaner.
I use Opera and love it. To be fair, I never really gave the stock one much of a shot because I didn't see an easy way to use tabs (which apparently, there is.)
Opera's UI though is great IMO and it is pretty damn fast. That and syncing with my desktop is nice.

I'm using Mac desktop, liking it personally although most differences are subtle at best.
The stock browser is my favourite too. The rest have all the bells and whistles that I don't need, which clutter up the space. If I need to access more than one website ata time, I just open another window.
Good to know I'm not the only one.
The standard thread question...
I didn't see any prior topics about this. I use the CM9 nightlies.
I've tried the following:
Browser (I haven't really used this much)
Chrome (I get a lot of crashes when I scroll quickly on sites with heavy coding)
Dolphin (Don't like how the address bar disappears when scrolling down)
Dolphin Mini (I like how the address bar stays, but this browser has limited features)
Opera HD (Meh)
Maxthon (Everyone says to use this one. While it's nice, I've found that you can't really open a lot of tabs with this browser without it crashing and/or freezing.)
What do you guys use? What should I try?
It doesn't look like you have tried Firefox, so that might be worth a go. It is a very personal choice, but I have stuck with the ICS browser for most use (also have Chrome, Dolphin and Firefox installed).
Dolphin. It's fast and fullscreen. I would've used Chrome (i like the sync with Google account), but it's laggy and adress bar and tabs are unhideable.
For now, I'm using ICS Browser+.
I have most of the ones mentioned installed, but use ICS Browser+ most of the time.
I've just been using the standard browser. It allows a desktop user agent, supports flash, has tabs and is pretty stable which is all i need.

I think opera mobile its more stable browser
I myself haven't found any reason to switch from the stock browser. I love the quick controls.
I like Dolphin HD for all my Andorid decices. I like having multipe tabs open.
*EDIT*scratch that, after a few days.of ok browsing with Dolphin HD, I can't even get it open without crashing. It's constantly asking me to send an error report. Gonna try uninstalling and reinstalling and see what happens.

So a few of you know that I can't stand how Google has tried to have us use their services by removing and or tying a lot of their built in apps with Google+. So, I have found a few great replacement apps and have pretty much made them look like stock applications.
I took some screenshots as you can see below as to how they look when installed and modified to my liking. (Many of them have themes and QuickPic is also working on themes for their app as well.)
Instead of Google Photos I use QuickPic. It's basically like the old gallery app but allows to you to move files. (You can also sync photos if you wish to do so.)

Instead of Google Play Music I use Shuttle+ Music Player. (For one thing, when you open the app you can have it go right to YOUR music on the device and even default to what tab you choose. No taking 3 or 4 steps just to get to your music or playlists.)
Instead of Messenger I use QKSMS+ (It just looks better, you can edit the themes and it has Quick Reply. And it looks very much like the stock Google app.)
And of course you can edit the app icon with your favorite Launcher.
What are some apps you guys and gals use? Do you use third party apps or keep everything Google?
I use the Sony Ericsson album app
Slide left or right to show more or less pics at once.

You can disable each app you dont want in Android settings, and it will disappear from the app drawer. But be warned, disabling the wrong Gapp could make the phone unstable.
