Hello to the xda devs community.
Yesterday I switched from iPhone to the LG Optimus 2X and my problem is the following.
You see when I was an iPhone user I was syncing my contacts with outlook which was pretty convenient.
Now that I'm with the the O2X I cant' sync my contacts.
I tried to extract them as a .csv file and upload them to google contacts, it worked till a certain point, the point were contacts with Greek letters were replaced with (?) question marks.
Do you know if I can do something for this ?
Some info about my device:
OS : FroYo 2.2 Stock
best regards
Never mind guys, I figured it out.
I used LG PC Suite to sync with outlook.
unfortunately photos weren't synced

Hello everyone,
I went from an HTC Touch Pro to a Samsung Captivate. I have a bunch of contacts that are backed up via pim backup utility, I also saved my pim.vol file. Is there an app or utility out there that will import pim contacts to the Samsung Captivate contacts list?
bump, anyone at all? I know im not the only person going from windows mobile to android. there has to be a way to import pim contacts into the captivate.
I just got my Captivate yesterday Coming from the TouchPro 2). From what I can tell, I think the answer is NO.
I tried this method to get my contacts from my WinMo phone the the Captivate (I don't have Outlook):
http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/move-contacts-windows-mobile-android/
I did get my contacts on my captivate (kind of), but It just listed their first name and didn't show any info (phone numbers, e-mail addresses...) when I taped on the contacts.
Thus far I'm looking at having to move my contacts over manually one by one.
Hopefully someone knows a better way... I have yet to dig one up.
Well, I migrated from a Blackberry and what I did was export my contacts to a .csv file, import the .csv into Gmail, and then sync Gmail contacts on my phone. Still had a bit of work to do since the .csv translation wasn't exactly perfect, but it was a fairly painless way to transfer 300+ contacts.
I think the best thing to do is sync all your contacts/calendar from WM or BB to GMail first, then when you login to Gmail with your Android, everything is already there.
I want to get back for the contact person list after installed android.
Can the phone book in MS outlook can get back and restore in the android?
If not, any solution?
nobody know?
I use android on topaz only for testing,
but here's an idea :
I think you can use google apps standard edition to sync
your outlook contacts with your gmail account on your android topaz.
But it seems quite a hassle, maybe this application is a better choice.
blogsdna.com/5191/sync-gmail-contacts-with-outlook-using-google-contacts-outlook-synchronizer.htm
And here's another one : blogsdna.com/6233/synchronize-gmail-outlook-contacts-with-go-contact-sync.htm
( saving it for later use, tell me if it worked )
I use Companionlink on my droid, unfortunately the standard Android doesn't come with sync software.
>Backup Outlook Contacts as comma-separated (Windows) file
>import with gmail
>sync.
Not the fastest way, but works perfect
the faster way is save all your Contacts to the sim card from MW then after run android make copy to the android Contacts list i made it like this
bye
I would suggest the following two options:
1) MyPhoneExplorer -> supports a lot of Android Phones and you can sync calendar and Contacts with a lot of Applications, i. e. Outlook and Thunderbird 3
2) Funambol -> a bit more difficult to set up, but runs perfect with outlook and, unfortunately, only with thunderbird 2. for android you have to download the beta release 9.0.0 (simply search at goole for this, one of the first results guide you to the beta on funambol website)
Cheers
Zap
Edit: Both versions have the advantage that you do not have to send your data to the web...

Google/Android Outlook Complete Sync Mail/Contacts/Calendar/Tasks/Notes
Has any one found a complete solution for android milestone outlook sync?
Mail/Contacts/Calendar/Tasks/Notes
I just don't see android that useful without this feature to completly sync with outlook. It seems even the paid apps don't support full sync and their reviews are bad.
Also, how do I import my old SMS from WM6.1 *.pst file to Android, any tools out there?
Thanks very much ... looking forward for the Froyo update
Would like to get the answer on syncing, too. The problem might be that for example Outlook contact field do not correspond to Google contact fields - how to sync that is a big question.
If there is a solution not for sync, but for one-time convertion of all info from Outlook to Android that would be great, too.
Thank you!
It seems the custom rom I installed doesn't like the LG PC Suite :/ How do you sync the phone now to Outlook 2010?
You don't
You sync it to google.
After that you can sync google calendar to Outlook.
And mail etc..
same is possible with hotmail I think but I don't use that
Sent from my Optimus 2X using XDA App
Eniux is right.. sync it with Google, and then export for what you want...
I see .. and if you don't want all your data online? You're stuck?
Why not simply search on market?
Found this in 27 sec...

if it is just the syncing of Contacts, Calendar, Organizer, Reminders, Messages....try the MyPhone Explorer....I use it for the syncing with this..through wifi, Bluetooth or USB....works perfect...
NOTE: it does not work for the mails
You can check almost any mail account within gmail: http://www.brighthub.com/internet/google/articles/5655.aspx
Best option, no need to mess with outlook

+1 on MyPhoneExplorer - forget LG PC Suite..

Looks free.
But only works using wifi, probably not with cable.
Thanks for all the help I went with the myphonexplorer route now ... fantastic little thing, with WLAN syncing and all, very nice! I really don0t understand all this outlook fuss ... synchronize a file with some structure into another file with some structure ... sounds like something a 10 year old learns in a basic class. But there's a million problems with it.... sigh.

I found that if you clear the certificate check box and remove the port number outlook will sync properly using the email app that came with the rom this is for exchange though. Not sure if it will work with the others.
I am considering buying Galaxy Note, but there is one issue I haven't been able to clear so far:
How compatible are the GN calendar (s-planner), memo (s-memo) and contacts with Outlook and Google calendar? Can I synchronize between GN and Outlook calendar and contacts? Are the s-memo notes transferred to PC and if so, can they be exported to any other format (Outlook memo? MS Onenote? Evernote? ASCII text? Graphics?)
I have already had Palm PDAs (with the Palm Desktop on PC), then WinMobile devices (with Outlook) and got quite used to the comfort of being able to view and edit contacts, schedules and memos on both PC and the mobile device. If GN doesn't allow this, this would be a serious downside for me.
Everything is synced with Google. If your Outlook syncs with google then it shouldnt be a problem with the calander and contacts. You can add s-memos to calander events, but if you dont do that, then you have to manually sync s-memo things to Google Docs. But other than that its completely autonomous. There are also a lot of apps that do what you want. I would recommend buying a Note.
syncs fine with hotmail, exchange, google and facebook.
I initially had an odd scenario where hotmail gained some facebook calendar events (birthdays) but that seems to have resolved itself.
Thank you for the answer.
It has been written somewhere that the latest version of S-Memo can also synchronize with Evernote. Can anyone confirm that? And if so, does it just send the content as an image or does it retain some more formatting (text? www links? etc.)

sync works with evernote but it send the notes as images.
I am a sync-o-phile (oo-er, sounds a bit rude), always have been.
I now have my calendar and contacts synced with Google & Outlook using and App called Sync2 from www.sync2.com. It seems to work fine, although can fail when outlook is closed and it is still alive (I close Outlook to sleep my PC or Outlook can crash). I sync it and several other web calendars at the same time.
I also have my Outlook to do list sync to ToodleDo, and then to Due Today both on my PC and my phone. It uses Outlook categories as Project names, which is neat. I have not tried linking with the Notes To Do list as this seems peculiar to the Note, and I want a more general solution.
I like that Google/Samsung now seems to carry over Outlook categories for contacts in the Note. That means I can use them properly.
I use Evernote to sync all my notes as it is far more powerful than the Google notes thing, and more generic. I also love the ability to open a file, edit it, and save again, and it updates the note.
I use Basecamp on my PC, phone, and the web for managing projects and collaborating with customers.
For files I use SugarSync, and it syncs with up to 3 devices, up to 2GB for free, and I typically just ignore it an expect my files to be wherever I am.
Odd thing is that I have noticed several contacts getting images from other sources I never asked to look up. I presume Facebook. This is bloody annoying. Does anyone know how to stop it?

This is quite possible. I have also noticed the same behaviour on my WinMobile phone (HTC Touch Pro2), so it is not directly an Android related issue. And yes, the images for my contacts that appeared suddenly without my consent, are the same as their Facebook profile images.
Got a Note!
You've managed to give me the information I needed and finally I bought a Note!
So far I have been able to confirm:
Synchronizing Smemo with Google Docs - works great, text remains text, while images are embeded in the document
Exporting contacts from Outlook to KIES worked "sort of", while exporting to Gmail and back to Note worked great. I have managed to retain all the information and even code page (I used ASCII, not Unicode) worked as expected.
Exporting calendar from Outlook to Gmail and back to Note worked almost perfectly (apart from some inconsistencies which were due to duplicate entries in Outlook)
As for contact photos, it seems that only those which originate from Facebook are added to contact data.

I got all my contact photos from way back, and those must have come through from Outlook -> Google -> Note as Outlook is the only constant source since I was first able to do this (with my Sony Clie)
Perhaps in my case Outlook photos would also have been added through Google, but I exported/imported them via a .csv file, which didn't retain photos, only text data.
My outlook contact photos sync perfectly.
