[Q] /mnt/emmc Instead of External SDCard? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey everyone,
So I was having issues with SD Cards earlier but I reflashed a different kernel and then went to Nightly build #28 of CM7 and everything seems to be alright.
My only issue is my External SD card is mounting to /mnt/emmc/ instead of /sdcard (or wherever its supposed to go) and that is giving me trouble with apps that require SDCard, as they think I dont have one.
For example, my camera app wont let me save pictures because "I dont have an SD Card", same with TapTap Revenge 4 etc.
How can I mount my external into /mnt/sdcard/ or wherever it should be? :|
Thanks.

If i remember well, this is the new way the external sdcard is and will be mounted. I have it that way too and never got problem. Can't you save on the internal SD ?

Idk, I was just having problems with my SD Cards, so I'm not really sure.
It says
SD Card : unavailable
Internal 1.78gb / 1.87 gb (Its supposed to be 16gb?)
Additional Storage : /mnt/emmc
5.44gb / 5.55gb (partitioned in recovery.. its an 8gb)
and whenever I try to download anything it says I dont have an SD Card. :\

[Q] Help: External SD unreadable after flashing ROMs

Hi,
What would be making the files on my external SD invisible to my phone?
When I was running stock 2.1 JH7 on my Captivate I was able to access files on my 16gb class 2 external SD card just fine.
However after flashing Cognition 3.04 and then Perception I am unable to see any of the files on the external SD card. When I browse to /sdcard/sd the file browser reports accurate memory stats (3.67 gb used) but say no files. Via USB I'm able to mount both internal and external SD cards and perform file management via my PC (such as copying files from one internal to external and vice versa).
I have removed the external SD card from my phone and formatted it fat32 and copied files back onto it and reinstalled in my phone and still can't see any files on the card from the phone.
Shot in the dark... Is there an issue with the lagfix file system and the fat32 on the external sd?
Any suggestions would be appreciated!
thanks,
Fred
check /sd/external_sd
This happened to me just once in my last 50 flashes....only thing I did was reflash and it started working. Sorry this doesn't help since you already flashed again and still have the issue.

That led me to the right spot. On my phone my external SD is at:
/sdcard/external_sd
Where /sdcard/ is the internal SD card
What then is /sdcard/sd ? This is where I looked before for external SD data... does the path change with various ROMs?
think they changed the mount points of the external sd from 2.1 and 2.2 around a bit
in 2.1 the external is /sdcard/sd
in 2.2 its /sdcard/external_sd

Thanks again.
/sdcard/sd is still on my system but I can't see any files. Oh well.
yeah you will still see a /sdcard/sd folder in your explorer but that /sdcard/sd is not pointing to your external sd card after the froyo update. My guess is that they made a directory /sdcard/sd for backwards compatibility with older apps.

[Q] Cyanogen doesnt use internal memory

Hi. I dont use SD card , because 5GB of internal memory is enough for me, but when I try to use camera it just write: Inseret SD card before using camera. Even photogalery wont load pictures from internal memory of the phone
With stock ROM everything was OK ,but now...
I am using cyanogen latest nightly build (but with RC1 it was the same problem)
Anyone know solution to this problem ?
Either **** about with the mount points or get yourself an SD card.

Yeah i have got and SD card on spare, but it is a shame have a 5GB of memory and dont use it
You can change some .fstab file around and it'll work, search on the forums I found it here myself

[Q] Why is SD set as the removable sd in the fstab?

Hi,
I just changed the mounting of the sdcard and emmc to be reversed. As far as I understand, the sdcard is "usually" the internal sd, and emmc is "usually" the external sd.
The biggest issue I faced was that everytime I reboot my phone, I'll have to remove and reinsert the sd card so that the sdcard is detected by the phone. After I swapped the mounting, everything went well. Is there a reason why the devs use the scheme?
Thanks
EDIT: I'm seeing this on CM nightly 204
haven't use nightly 204 but in stable CM7, there is an option called 'Use Internal Storage' under setting menu 'CyanogenMod Settings'->'Application', check it then internal sdcard would be mount as /sdcard.
Hmm... That's a good option.
Just wondering why the it is not checked by default.
I didn't have sd inserted at first, so *nothing* is working. Camera complains, installing apps failed, etc.
CyanogenMod reverses the sd and emmc mountain as the internal sd is rather small and external is typically larger. They do this since many apps do not offer a way to switch storage location. It is possible to switch them back and there is a tread on it but since I'm on mobile I really can't link to it right now.

I see, that made sense... Yes, option to swap it back is mentioned by hkkp.
But I still think it should default to sd as internal sd, emmc as external flash. Let user make the switch if they wishes to...

i use nightly 204, and didn't happen like you did. i prefer external sd card is default and internal to be external. because external sd is bigger then internal one and faster i use class 10

Odd... Must be some dirty data during flash. Could you check this out?
1. Go to Terminal / adb to the phone
2. type "cat /etc/vold.fstab" without the quotes
3. paste the output here
Could you also check if "Settings->Cyanogenmod Setting->Applications->Use Internal Storage" is checked by default?

[Q] How to copy installed Apps to External SD in ICS (Or Gingerbread if have to)

Hi there, I know that theres a lot of posts on this forum regarding this issue but i didn't find comprehensive answer to how to move Apps to an External SD card on the G Note.
I'm not an expert with Android as I am in the transition from the iPhone, but I'm not too much of a noob as I have a bit of knowledge due to hacking and jailbreaking with the iPhone.
Now here is my problem. I have a lot of Apps that are hogging my storage and I have come to a point where I cannot install anymore Apps. When I try to copy it to the external SD card (16gb Class 10), it is actually copying it to the internal SD card. I have tried all those Apps like App2SD and I still haven't had any luck. I even tried all the tutorials on this site and still no luck.
I know there are easy methods with Froyo, but I don't want to downgrade as I am currently on "ICS(4.0.4) Stunner Beta 5.0" and it runs like a dream on the Note! If worse case scenario that I have to downgrade to achieve this, the lowest I will go back to is a factory rooted Gingerbread.
Even when I was on factory rooted Gingerbread I still had this same problem before the upgrade.
Right now the only way is to edit vold.fstab file but that will cause bigger issues with ICS and Stunner in particular
Your best hope is wait for a new version of Stunner where the internal sd card is mounted @ /mnt/emmc and the external sd card is mounted @ /mnt/sdcard and that should solve your issues completely
I read Neo talking about it and I think he will implement this structure in the next release
Thanks for the quick reply! Thats great news.. If i have to wait for a Stunner update, is there another ICS or Gingerbread release or tweak that could fix this?

I have micromax funbook with ICS 4.0.3..in my tablet internal sd card is mounted @ /mnt/sdcard and the external sd card is mounted @ /mnt/extsd - Even I need a solution as most HD games are huge and its usable internal memory is only around 2gb.
In my friends Samsung Galaxy S external sd card was mounted as "sd card" and we were able to move installed apps to 16gb memory card need this fix.

Try searching re-partitioning your internal memory. It increases your current 2 GB Max internal memory to 4-6-8-10 GB by reducing your internal sd card. This way you can install many apps without having to move it here n there. thread is by @metalgearhathaway.
A problem
Actually, i modified the vold.fstab file and partially bricked my tablet. It gets stuck on the booting logo and recovery console seems to be useless because the wipe data/factory reset option doesn't work. It's an A23 based 7 inch tablet for which i'm unable to find a ROM to flash it with. Any help would be appreciated. Or is there any way to re-modify the vold.fstab file to the old state? Or to reset the ROM?
