warch your pc videos from xoom (the simple way) - Xoom Themes and Apps

tired of fighting with cifs.ko mounts cifsloader and different kind of kernels and other ***** stuffs i found a much simple way to watch my videos from the pc (without having to download them)
just install easyphp on your pc http://code.google.com/p/vlc-shares/
then open your stock browser on your xoom and point to the pc IP
if u have moboplayer installed (or i suppose any other video player) on your xoom, the video just starts to play.
1. u should put your videos in the right directory on your pc: C:\Program Files (x86)\VLCShares\www for the 64bit windows 7 and C:\Program Files\VLCShares\www for the 32bit
AND/OR
2. u can add as many alias directories pointing the real directories in where u store your movies: example C:\Users\Administrator\Videos how?
there is a bug in the administration page of the easyphp about creation of alias directories.
u must open the apache configuration file (right click, configuration, apache) and at the end of the txt file add, for example
Alias /video "C:\Users\Administrator\Videos"
<Directory "C:\Users\Administrator\Videos">
Options FollowSymLinks Indexes
AllowOverride None
Order Allow,Deny
Allow from all
</Directory>
restart the server and point your xoom broswer to IP/video
(IP is the ip number of your windows machine)
if your wifi is fast then the movie goes fast and the quality is perfect (100 times better than using vlc direct pro)
i tried also using this system with firefox beta on the xoom but the broswer try to download the file instead of opening the player...so...use the stock browser.
ciao

What configuration needs to be done to easyphp? Any windows firewall exceptions need to be made? Router configuration changes needed?
Installing easyphp and connecting to my computer's ip gives me a webpage not available error message in the stock browser.
Where does the vlcshares directory come from? Do you have to create it? It doesn't exist after installing easyphp.
Could you expand on the setup of this?

sorry i corrected the link above.
u must install the vlc shares version of easyphp (http://code.google.com/p/vlc-shares/downloads/detail?name=vlc-shares_0.5.4_installer.exe), then it creates the vlcshares directory itself on your pc. (C:\Program Files (x86)\VLCShares)
i didnt have to touch any router configuration or firewall permission.
its just a kind of hhtp server under port 80, so, if u dont have another http server running on same port u dont have to change nothing on your pc or router.

Very cool, works really nice!
One thing I noticed.
Moboplayer does not handle spaces in filenames/directories. If there is a space in a filename or if a video file is in a directory that has a space in the directory name, Moboplayer will not be able to play the file.
Rockplayer/Rockplayer lite does handle spaces in filenames properly.

i have the same page not available on my xoom, i installed everything correctly on my laptop and added an alias with a movies folder then whenever i try to access my ip address from the xoom or the ip/folder name i get page not available

Hey hey,
Just wanted to tell you guys that i've been streaming videos from my pc to my xoom with es file explorer and mx video player + codecs. No need for extra software on your pc, just share your movie folder on your pc and connect with es file explorer to the pc, select movie and play with you favorite player
Hope this helps
Sent from my MZ601 using XDA App

but still this wouldn't play regular avi files that are not supported by xoom right ?

Hmm
For me, every single AVI file worked for now.
Xoom can't play avi with stock video player, but MX Video Player and Mobo Player are able to handle avi files.

Are you sure, that u installed the right codec pack, the one for the Tegra 2?
Another suggestion would be if it only happens over Network or does you MX Player also close when you try to play files stored on your tablet?

yeah i installed the ARM 7 codecs and yeah it does this with files even on xoom, only files worked when it was mkv files

Stream video from PC to Xoom

Hai!
I've been seeing alot of people wanting to stream video from thier Home PC or HTPC to thier Xoom. I've also seen some really hard ways to go about it, srsly.
Here's an easy way that does not require you to install anything on your PC.
1. Share out your video folder on your PC, allow full access to everyone.
2. On Xoom, connect to your WiFi then goto Market, search "bs player" and download and install it, and the ARM7 addon next to it.
3. Open BS player, in top right menu, select LAN Mode.
4. Add your host(IP) and share: 192.168.0.2/downloads (this may not work for, is only example), add your username and password for the PC (your Login). You may need to add // infront of your IP address in some cases, not sure why.
Done.
BS player also plays most files inc .avi. Streams 720p quite fluently.
Also there is a way to do this over the net, but your net would probably die and it takes longer to explain and i'm at work, and i'm lazy ^_^.
Ciao.
You could do the same thing from your file explorer and have any player play the files from your computer. I switch to LAN in Honeycomb HD File Explorer and put my home IP in and now I can watch any of the files on my Xoom.
I installed tversity server on the pc and shared the video folder
I installed bubbleUpnp on the xoom..
open bubbleUPNP, browse to the folder, click the video and watch it on MX Video Player (or others)
Works beautifully
There are a few ways to do it.
This appears to be one of the easiest ways, along with sharing and using it through HD Explorer, which i do more than the way i posted.
But having to install software on your PC just to stream videos, in my oopinion, is unacceptable.
My PC has way more than enough power to do it as it was built for gaming, but I'd prefer not to add software that i don't need to.
But everyone has their way of doing it, this was just for those who aren't overly computer savvy and wanted to know how.
Qloud Free does a really good job of streaming video as well. Adjustable bit rate before you start each video even allows you to take in to account how powerful the CPU on the PC you are streaming from might be.
I followed your instructions, but nothing will play. Every file on my WHS server that I click on just crashes with "Unexpected error occured". I tried MP4, AVI (Xvix and Divx), and WMV files. I can see all my files under the folder I shared, none of them will play though.
I use Splashtop. What it basically does is lets you control your PC from your Xoom. Not sure if thats what you need. On the same network its pretty smooth.
If you are just looking to play it directly on your Xoom without it playing on ur PC then there are several softwares/apps available that let you view your PC files on your tablet.
What I would do is enable web sharing on my PC and then access the URL from my tablet's browser.
don't forget gmote 2.0. Its been streaming brilliantly for me
There is also Zumocast. Originally it was only available for select motorola phones, but you can find it in XDA forums...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1276410
Grabbing Plex is also a good way, though it isn't free. If you have a wide array of video formats (I have a large mix of SD, 720p, and 1080p content), something that can transcode is pretty much the only option, and Plex is much cheaper than the paid version of TVersity.
The Plex Media Server app catalogs videos with metadata like XBMC does on the PC, but requires their paid app from the market to access it. It handles real-time transcoding for videos that would otherwise be unplayable on the Xoom (ie 1080p high profile).
I agree with splashtop. I though about streaming other ways but didnt want to leave my video folder open to the entire network. Splashtop works perfectly.
I also use splashtop to get the video onto my xoom and then plug it into the tv with hdmi rather than carrying my laptop around or using a media streamer.
I personally like Remote Potato on windows 7. There is an app in the market called Remote Media Center that works real nice.
You will need Windows Media Center for this to work. I like it because I can also stream Live TV and the Guide.

cast local avi and mkv files from chrome browser

I got my device today and loving it .. used mostly for youtube/play music and was able to cast chrome tab easily and also fullscreen HTML5 videos
However I got this trick from one of the site .. navigate from chrome browser to say D:\ drive. type this and enter
file:///D:/
you will see you the list of files.. by clicking on them, I was able to play avi and mkv files and cast the same in fullscreen.. only one of my mkv file failed to play (may be issue with codec)..i think the prereq is to install VLC player (who doesn't  )
can't stop loving my chromecast .. only issue is 720p setting in chrome browser is kinda lagging so switched to 480p , thats ok for now

I would do that but I have A LOT of files and it would just take way to long to convert them all also I would be converting then deleting the originals. How long does it take to convert the videos?
I use Ctrl & O to get the chrome file browser up. I can't play *.avi files (it tries to copy them to d/load folder instead) is there a workaround? besides converting them all to a different format, is there a reason why Google/Chrome don't natively play *.avi? It's not like I can't play the files using VLC for example.
If you click the down arrow in the upper right hand corner on the chrome extension, there is an option to cast the entire screen instead of just the tab.
@sungod88
It takes about 3-5 min for a 700mb file, by the time you watch 1 movie you should have atleast 15 - 20 movies converted to mp4, its a lot easier than what it seems.

doing this just gives me black screen on tv.
Any idea why I can't play avi files in browser? I installed both DivX Plus Web Player, and VLC Web Plugin. I had to disable Quicktime plugin to get MPG, and at this point I seem to have everything (mpg, mp4, mkv, ...) but avi. I see the the avi file extension is listed under the MIME type for VLC plugin, bug chrome still just downloads it. My chromecast gets here today or tomorrow, any ideas about how to get chrome to just play the file?
Also, along the same line of thinking. How can I identify which plugin is playing a given file?
Drag and drop works just fine too..
nice to know you can cast local files. Anyone tried casting video from ubuntu?
No audio in chrome when playing local files
I know that i am not the first person to experience this but i have not been able to find a solution. When playing an MKV file i have no way in getting any audio out of it at all. Not from my laptop and not from my chrome cast. Nothing at all I have a little slash through the audio speaker that wont go away!

If the audio is DTS or AC3 it won't play through Chrome. I believe AAC and MP3 will play. To avoid re-encoding your videos I would recommend installing plex and using their Web view to play the videos, it will transcode the video/audio on the fly and cast that way

Have you checked the mkv files for Compressed Headers? I had this problem, with trying to play mkv files in my theater+. I used a tool called mkvmerge to remove the compressed headers. That fixed my issue.

Stream local video to the Chromecast using Apache and Github, not tab sharing

By installing apache with the root set to my download folder, navigating to the file using your local ip in the chrome browser using the http:// instead of the file:// prefix, copying the url into this github site (that I stumbled upon) http://googlecast.github.io/cast-chrome/ using the html5 option, the chromecast will pull the file directly from your machine and decode it at it's native resolution.
Hope that is as cool to others as it is to me. Watching Venture Bro's in 1080 right now, looks great.

Just tested this using XAMPP on windows 7 machine. Streaming was flawless for mp4/m4v files. Used website linked in the OP. One issue I had with one video is the content was at the top. As in there was just a black bar at the bottom and not the top. Full screen videos had no issues.

There is a much simpler way than installing apache. I did it with mongoose. No installation at all. just 1 portable exe. Just place the exe in the folder of the mp4, run it, then go to http://googlecast.github.io/cast-chrome/, select html5, and enter http://YourIP:8080/NameOfFile.mp4
worked perfectly and no installation necessary
There's also an easy (and cross-platform) solution if you have python installed. Just open your media directory in terminal and run "python -m SimpleHTTPServer" (without the quotes.)
This will serve your files at localhost:8000/path/to/video (path is relative to the directory you're running the server in)

That is probably easier, so I just made a little program that takes the filename as input, starts the server, puts the link in your clipboard, then opens the github link. It is attached... also bundled with it is windows x64 executable made with pyinstaller

It's true that Chrome's built-in player only plays mp4 video files.
What you should do for other file types is install VLC, along with the VLC browser plugins. The VLC plugin for Mozilla/Chrome will play most video file types, but there are some issues:
1. You may have to disable other conflicting plugins like Quicktime, because it's darn near impossible to tell Chrome which plugin has priority to play a particular MIME type or file type. Type about: plugins into the Chrome address bar to access the plugins list.
2. Chrome insists on downloading avi files instead of playing them, so you have to trick it: rename the avi file as mpeg and let the VLC plugin automatically determine the correct file type from the header. You can rename it back to avi after you play it in Chrome.
3. There doesn't seem to be any way to select the correct audio track in files with multiple audio tracks, and it always seems to default to the wrong one in mkv files.

When you install VLC, you have the option to also install the browser plugins. Chrome shares the Mozilla plugin. After installation, you will find the VLC plugin in the list of Chrome plugins (enter About: plugins on the address bar). It's enabled by default, and you can expand the details to see what MIME types it supports. However you may see other plugins in the list which are also enabled and also support the same MIME types (e.g., Quicktime), and there's no way to control which one has precedence other than to disable one of them.

Cast From Windows To Chromecast

This is a how to on Casting Xbmc from Computer to TV for Free using Chromecast Browser. You are going to see this blows away any previous method for casting like this. It actually can even cast live streams which I didn't even think was possible and something I wasn't able to do in Avia or Allcast! It currently should work on Windows, Mac, Chrome OS and Linux.
The instructions are below. I'm not going to post links here because I don't want to get banned. You can cut and paste the line in bold print into either Google or YouTube and it will take you to my video where I provide instructions and links to everything you need which isn't really that much.
Cast XBMC from Chrome Browser - Free!!! Live Sports!!!
How to Cast XBMC from Computer to TV for Free using Chromecast and Chrome Browser.
Step 1. Go into Chrome Browser and add the Google Cast Extension.
Step 2. Download and install XBMC Windows version 12.3 Frodo
You need to run xbmc once to set up the proper folders.
Step 3. Download my modified playercorefactory.xml
Place playercorefactory.xml in the userdata folder using the following path.
C:\Program Files (x86)\XBMC\system\
Hint: My path to Chrome Browser is C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe Your path to chrome.exe could definitely be different than mine and you will have to find your path and change it in the playercorefactory.xml.
Step 4. Demonstration
Start Chromecast

This is a how to on Casting Xbmc from Computer to TV for Free using Chromecast Browser. You are going to see this blows away any previous method for casting like this. It actually can even cast live streams which I didn't even think was possible and something I wasn't able to do in Avia or Allcast! It currently should work on Windows, Mac, Chrome OS and Linux.
The instructions are below. I'm not going to post links here because I don't wan to get banned. You can cut and paste the line in bold print into either Google or YouTube and it will take you to my video where I provide instructions and links to everything you need which isn't really that much.

Just wanted to mention, that this setup plays Mp4's or Mkv's which play in the Chrome Browser and then can be casted with Chromecast. In
order to play FLV and other formats, you can use VLC Player Chrome Extension and then you can play all the formats on the computer and cast them with a work around.
Download the 32 bit version of VLC Player and make sure Plugins/Extensions are checked during installation. Then type chrome://plugins in the chrome browser and make sure the VLC web plugin is enabled. Now anything that can be played by the Chrome Browser like an mp4 will play in Chrome and anything that can't be played by the Chrome Browser like an flv will still open inside the Chrome Browser but in VLC.
Will this work for casting MKV's coded with AC3 audio directly from the PC to the Chromecast without going through an Android device? I've tried tab-casting files played by Plex but the performance is never too good.

Problem I'm having with this is that Chrome insists on playing the MKV. No sound because's it's AC3. Is there a way to force Chrome to use VLC?
Will this work on Gotham beta 3?
I couldnt get this to work on neither Win7 or Win8. Tried changing paths in the xml and still nothing.
I got everything... but every time i try to play a live stream... it will just download the playlist and not stream directly onto the google chrome browser... am I missing something?
All paths are correct, and i have the VLC plug in on chrome browser....
Is anyone else have the same issue?

Hint: My path to Chrome Browser is C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe Your path to chrome.exe could definitely be different than mine and you will have to find your path and change it in the playercorefactory.xml.
