Calling all parents

How young us too young to have a phone? My son will be 9 soon, but half if his 3rd grade class have phones. I'm looking for opinions. Thanks.

I'd say about 11-12. What are they even gonna use a phone for when they're 9?

I may be not a parent , but if I were, the limit would be 14-15 years old...
If younger they can really easily get addicted...

I'm not a parent, but my mom didn't get me one until I was 15 since I started working. A few years ago before my mom decided to get me a phone, I always shared the phone with her instead whenever I was out with friends. I'm 19 now.

9 is way too young. Unless it's a necessity I'd say 12-13. Although I'm not a parent, I got mine at 14 and my stepsister got hers at 11, she's glued to it night and day. If you want a relationship with your child I'd advise against such a young age.

My first was a blackberry pearl at age 12 my sister got the same one at age 10 : she is really addicted to the internet.

16 is when I got mine cause that's when they need to have one were as they can drive! !

I got mine at 14 I believe. I would advise somewhere around 14-16.

I'm thinking that 9 us a little too young also. Maybe it's our neighborhood our something, but all these little elementary school kids are rolling with iphones, ipod touch, droids. It's crazy. I was just gonna reactivate my wifes old env2 for him.

I got an iphone when I was 11 and now I'm like my towns smartphone expert i've gone through 5 phones which I have bought all of them and I'm only 13

I have mixed opinions. I think you should buy him or her the prepaid ten dollar phones like trackphone or something a's let the child grow some responsibility off that.be very sure you explain that its only for emergencys then if hes good when hes 13 or 14 get him a decent phone. Idk maybe im old fashion (oh crud im 21)

Your knowledge is a good thing but most children at 13 don't have the want to know about things like that, let alone 11.

Exactly! Which is why we don't give them cellphones at the age of 11, because they aren't as bright as you are.

If I had a phone at 13 especially this day and age where it consumes your life (im on a vibrant so im always messin with it even in college) I dont think I would have graduated and I would have discovered porn alot faster plus dont teachers take away phones anymore these days? I remember getting my sidekick ii at the time confiscated every week or so
I use swype so expect bad grammar and errors

My kids will get one when they have a job and can pay for it themselves. I am only required to provide food, clothing, shelter, and love. I'll gladly add a line to my contract, but they will pay for it. Unless there is a snazzy new device and my upgrade is a few months off. Then I'll buy the phone and they get my old one.

Guys I got my BlackBerry Bold!
Had it for a day and.....it sucked! Well I though I could live with it but I missed going to XDA on my app. Facebook I barely use and Twitter I barely use!
Anyways when I traded my sister the Vibrant with the BlackBerry, my mom took it away!
She asked me if I had a business to be using it soooo much and she took it so she gave me one of those phones you get free when you sign up with ATT and I only have calling now....
Well that's a bout it!

Yes hopefully is a temporary shutdown and the mods can bring some changes that can benefit us all.

I am very curious!!! Because of this girl but she lives in another city that she wants to be in a relationship but I'm like "babygurl hold up, hell nah"
But then I was wondering if it would work or it's just a waste of time???

I say this not because of any experience with a long distance relationship, of which I have had none, of the experiences I've had with regular relationships. I've been married 5 years. My relationship isn't necessarily long distance, but it is. We live an hour away from eachother & we both have jobs with completely different hours. I works days & he works nights. We see eachother every other weekend & talk on the phone as much as we can. We have ups & downs like every other couple. Been to together for two & half happy years still going & we are shopping for our first house together

How do you want to define your relationship and what do you want it to consist of?
Cuddling up watching a movie, dome at the movie theater, long walks, waking up together, looking into each other's eyes over a romantic dinner, intercourse, sharing hobbies and experiences... that all requires a shorter distance (even shorter for the less fortunate).
However, if talking on the phone and occasional visits are all you need, and you're both fine if it never changes, go for it.
Remember, all relationships prior to your first marriage are practice for that marriage. Don't let things get serious that don't need to be. If you feel you're going to end up marrying someone, be cautious and completely certain before letting it get serious. Otherwise, it's all for fun. If it won't at least be fun, don't do it.
