Only froyo? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Do you have to be on a froyo firmware to flash cyanogenmod7 and miui?
Thanks
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App

Yes, but more specifically froyo bootloaders. Miui does to as it is based on CM7. There are heaps of guides around that include instructions on how to go to Miui or CM7. This one explains how to go to CM7: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1101534[/URL
And this one for Miui: [URL="https://docs.google.com/document/pub?id=1ItSONRa9nzI7MKeKqwIdHCTRA3RRiOM_6LcJGnK4p6Y&pli=1"]https://docs.google.com/document/pub?id=1ItSONRa9nzI7MKeKqwIdHCTRA3RRiOM_6LcJGnK4p6Y&pli=1

Ezbase 2 is the best start point for a journey to cm7, why not try insanity cm? Come join the insane
GTi9000 insanity cm012/glitch

I will after I have used darky's for a.little longer. The roms I have tried are gingerreal and darky's 10.1. The roms I have tried are dark core and the one that came with gingerreal and I can't tell a difference in nh the.performance.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App

I think I will stick with darky as I found that battery life is quite a bit better on gingerbread than froyo
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App

Yes, if you want to have a good battery life, you shouldn't use CM7 or MIUI. Cause if cmpare battery life to Samsung-based ROMs it's not so good (but it's getting better from day to day ).

So which other roms can I flash straight away which are gingerbread based other than darkys and gingerreal?

Just look in the 'Galaxy S Android Development' section.

[Q] What is the smoothest and fastest rom out there, other than CM7?

As the title suggests what is the smoothest and fastest rom out there, other than CM7? Is there anything out there with the stability of a Samsung rom but the speed of CM7?
Hi ali...with reference to ur question i think tat darkys rom is the smoothest and fastest rom
Even faster than cm7.....u may try juwes, simply honet, tweaky rom etc but none better than darkys becuz it has tremendous support from the developer and is very stable.
I find the stock roms faster than custom roms, but I havent tried all roms, Ive been on Darky 9.5, now on 2.3.4, its definitely faster.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
For me juwe is the best
miui ofcourse
JVO stock with jvp modem & damiangto kernel 2.q gold, ext4 file system adw launcher ex. Maybe a little overclocking.

Juwe 5 is awesome .. check it out..

i like I9000TUBJV6 thats a 2.3.3 with 850 UMTS band for 3G in LATAM so far rock solid, fast and reliable
Thanks guys, I think I will try out Juwe's, I'd take Darky but that is not 2.3.4 yet, but I'll try it when it comes out.
Tweaky rom !
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I tried : Darky ROM v9.5, v10.1, CM7 and MIUI.
So far for me the smoothest ROM is MIUI (MCGv6 version).
I can't wait for a finale version to enjoy and use my phone properly.

Best gingerbread JVP ROM?

Which is fastest ginger JVP ROM and fastest kernel for it? Having been on cm7/miui since the froyo days im kinda curious now
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Why not CM7? It's based on 2.3.4 and you can overclock/undervolt too.

Juwes and GingerCriskelo works very fine.
not a direct response to your question but: I've tested a few jvp roms incl. Juwe's v5 release (and I honestly admire Juwe for his work) however insanity 10 (which is CM based) provides a much smoother user experience. give it a try....
I am waiting on Simply Honey 3.8. Tried a few of the others but so far i have been extremely pleased with SH. Been with it since v3.2. New one is gonna be released at 3.30pm today!

Is your setup on a I9000M Bell Version or the standard I9000?
And how long is your battery life?
I'm only messed with the Rogers Captivate with mixed results in terms of ROMs and Kernels so, I'd love to have the best rather then days of hit & miss again.
Cheers, Red Hazy
My apologies if I'm thread-jacking but, I'm sure others may want to know the same info...?

Bell I9000M. Battery life gets me through a full day with heavy use, recharge overnight -- no battery drain overnight if its already charged, use the phone too much to know how long it would go with just minimal phone use but that usage pattern also defeats the purpose of having a smartphone in the first place. Battery life is way better than when I was on stock 2.2 Bell firmware!
Tried lots of different combinations before finding damians kernel and then Brotuck's roms -- Tornado is the culmination of their close collaboration and it shows in performance. Yes you get speed, but you also get stability, smooth phone performance and good battery life.

you will be the only one who can choose your Fastest/Smoothest ROM cause peoples have different taste on their roms..
my personal preference is
F1 Innovation HD 7.0
Semaphore 2.4
and
MyICS rom
my preference is
F1 Innovation HD 7.0 + Semaphore 2.4
or
GingerReal2 R2.0.0 + Semaphore 2.4 + Thunderbolt script
My favourite: F1 powered by Semaphore.
Sometimes I'm switching to Supersonic with Galaxian.

ParanoidAndroid V0.5. As stable as it can get. Have been using it from 2 months. Not a problem. *touch wood* LOL
I'm on "The Classic Rom" after Criskello has seized supporting his ROM. The Classic ROM is super stable coupled with the HydraCore kernel.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
I don't suggest any ROM until you really tried one for yourself. What might work for others might NOT necessarily work for you...
So it's better you have to really try one (by flashing it), or look it up on each ROM threads you can find here on this forum.
Again, different strokes for different folks... Trust and rely yourself more than just taking the words of other people... Try to flash each ROM you like until you'll settle down to the one that really suits your liking....
Cm9 for raw power or cleanote if you still want tw stock

I am using RocketROM v.11 with SpeedMod Kernel k3-13.
This combination runs pretty smooth and no any reboot needed.
I am using my GN for business with no game at all, so I am not chasing for top speed.
Hope this could give you some hints.
