What needs to be done to enable the recent apps in the notifications pulldown of gingerbread based roms like bamf or gingeritis?
I know it has something to do with the SystemUI.apk but i don't know what to edit or replace within that apk.
Anybody got any tips?
Haven't tried it on bamf remix beta 6, but there is a patch for recent apps over at the bamf thread.

Not sure if all roms are like this, but I'm on gingeritis and you can just hold the home button when ever you want to see your recent apps. You don't actually have to be at your home screen to do so either.

Yes all roms are like that actually. I still like having it in the pulldown tho.
I havent narrowed it down yet but its a file in systemUI.apk
Yeah same here... if you find it before i do, please post.
Is it easier in the pulldown somehow? I just find it clutters things up and adds redundancies. Why have "recent apps" in two or three different places?

I just got really used to it. Its only seconds different from holding the button down... Just got used to seeing my notications, apps and music all in one place.

What ive done to learn is tear apart the update file and use that to find what it does... then go from there

100% Agreed. I love having it in the pulldown and hate having to hold the Home button to get to the recent apps. Is it easier having it in the pulldown bar? ABSOLUTELY.
Running Gingeritis and I would love to see the option for having it in the pulldown again.
The Th3ory ROM has recent apps in the drop down... Just putting that out there
Sent using the Th3ory of Thunderbolt
I flashed the SystemUI.apk from Theory Rom to Gingeritis and it works fine... Just be sure to delete SystemUI.odex first with root explorer...
I still want to know how this works first... In Froyo it was in com.htc.resurces.apk and i altered 1 or 2 xmls with meta morph to get the recent apps back.
Should be located in SystemUI.apk in:
res/layout (or layout-hpdi-v4)
Status_bar.xml or status_bar_extended.xml.
Not sitting at home computer to tell you exactly which one.

I'm very new to android dev/hacking and I hope this is acceptable conduct (taking someone else's theme and putting a different spin on it) but I really liked Frost Remix NexTheme but I wanted a different battery notification icon, updated charging icons and thanks to some prodding from ludeboy, I felt the default settings text should be changed so I made my own spin on a theme which I'm posting here for your using pleasure.
Change Log...
10/2/2010
Theme Frost Remix from 9/27/2010 (forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788294)
Changed secondary text from baby blue to green
Replaced battery icons and updated charging icons from "D" variant of Fightspit's Super Circle Battery mod (Thanks for porting s44 - forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=791886&page=3)
As soon as a figure out how to turn this theme into a rom I will and I'll get that posted but for the time being, here I have attached the framework-res and twframework-res.
To install - copy both files to your system/framework folder and restart your phone.
****This has been tested on my phone and works fine but as always - use at your own risk but let me know if you run into any problems...and always back up your originals ******
Big Thanks to ludeboy for the request to identify what xmls to change for color mods (I'm fairly up to speed on how the theme engine works), frostman88 for the initial theme and s44 for porting over the battery mod!
Works great bud! Just installed it and love it. Any way you can make the battery indicator, wifi meter, vibrate phone "lines", and the icons from the pull down menu when selected the same green as the text? I have a green type theme going on and would love it all to match. If not its cool since I have my notification bar hidden on home screen anyways but figured I could ask. Thanks for your work.

Let me know which xml you edited. Looked through the framework and twframework, and the only xml ones I found pointed to white not that blue ****.

I'll look into that - I like the green on black and do also currently like the green thing going on. I'm going to do some more tinkering but my creative is lacking from a graphical standpoint so if anyone has great ideas - If I like them I'll look at them and either roll another flavor or build it into what I have here.

Short Answer -
framework-res.apk\res\color-hdpi\zzz_tw_secondary_text_sub.xml
framework-res.apk\res\color\zzz_tw_secondary_text_sub.xml
(I think the first file is the only file that actually had to be modified but the second file was a few steps of color different from the first so I just modified both of them)
Long Answer -
It took me a little time to get familiar with how the themeing (styles, layouts, etc) worked but I think I have a pretty good handle on this. To figure out what controlled the text color I dumped the settings.apk, identified the layouts and styles, traced the styles backwards until I worked my way back into the framework-res.apk and then located that it was pointing to the color file of zzz_tw_secondary_text_sub
I spent about 5 hours digging but now knowing the how the colors, layout and styles work I could most likely have done it in 15 minutes.
Ah right, you know I saw it pointed to a specific color, like color1, color2, color3, but I had been up for about 19 hours with 5 hours of sleep and really did not feel like trying to trace it back to whatever else apk.
So overall I had about 30 min to dig through the xmls.
Darn, I'm so peeved right now. In the time it took for you to post this up,
I went and Odin Restored my phone, re-clean deodex + aosp'ed it,
used the Black Mod theme in Metamorph,
and then applied the D Circle Battery,
and backed it up like 5 times. If i'd have seen this sooner, it would have saved me so much time
Thanks for this. I really like Frostman's theme, but I did want the circle battery indicator, and I also really like the green text.
Works good. I like the green and the battery. Thanks

I copied the battery mod into the System/framework folder, first, and it borked my wallpaper back to the underwater live wallpaper, and then I kept getting FCs when I tried to open Root Explorer again. After I restarted, I was able to get the other file in, using Root Explorer, and I was able to reset my wallpaper. Nothing big, but I thought you might like to know.

Thanks - I am guessing that could be something to do with root explorer possibly. I do not use root explorer and currently am doing all my pushes using adb. I'll look at root explorer and see if I can explain what happened (guessing maybe a dependency thing but who knows).

Were these Sense skins or just another launcher with a Sense theme? I know alot of Launchers on the market have customizable keys at the bottom.
I was looking for the same thing the other day. Can't believe this isn't just a standard option.

Ok, thats why I asked. I was 99% sure you couldn't change the links in Sense.
You'll have to wait for modified rosie apks to emerge (or flashable themes that do the modifying for you)
Im basically trying to build bamf remix without the power controls. I have listed the zips I have finished, and they have all been tested and work.
All credit goes to zhp pilot and bamf team im just pulling apk form the remix and making them flashable.... please if you have any requests let me know
flash at your own risk.
Flash in CWR unless otherwise noted
Rosie from bamf remix:
please see attached file bamf_remix_rosie_and_settings_app-signed.zip
you will also need zhp pilot's remove green press found here (uses com.htc.resources with other mods from remix im waiting to find out what changes he made so i can make one that just the remove green press):
http://www.mediafire.com/?ut1g888ft5i4ek7
If you want different icons for the right button see zhp pilot's post here and download one of the like 8 listed (they are called REMIXED ROSIE):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1043589
lock screen from remix:
see attached file bamf_remix_lockscreen-signed.zip
Wifi tether for root users app: (install like a normal apk... root explorer or astro etc)
see attached file wireless_tether_2_0_7.apk
Shut down animation from Bamf remix:
see attached file named shutdown_ani-signed.zip
Flash in cwr if it doesnt work check permission
Remove location and debugging icon from status bar (based off new 1.6 service jar):
Please see attached file attached named remove_location_debug-signed.zip
how about the shutdown animation (old tv going off). loved that - would be great if you have it!
thanks!

yeah that would be really cool if you got that too work. I know a lot of people have been wanting something like but it hasn't really happened I think due to the difficulty. But who knows, maybe you can figure it out lol sounds good
UPDATE 9/3/11 - I have all the extras discussed added and the layout straight (I hope). There is now just a single zip attached that should be good to go. I would rather not add more functions at this time, as there are other projects I need to finish (ROMs, Power Widgets, 6-bar signal, etc., etc...)
Hi all. In the process of creating my upcoming Magnolia ROM for the Incredible based on the new official GB update, I managed to activate the quick settings tab in the notifications pull down bar. I haven't seen this anywhere else, so I thought I'd share with everyone so we can get more ROMs cooking off the official GB update.
This is just the stock SystemUI.apk with the quick settings tab activated (including the standard "extras" like brightness and media volume) and the GPS reticle hidden. No other changes have been made. Devs feel free to grab this and mod as you wish.
Just copy the zip file to your sdcard and flash as usual. As always, please backup first, and you flash this mod entirely at your own risk. If you want things rearranged or functions added, etc., please feel free to ask your favorite dev. I need to move onto some other stuff.....
Steve
Thanks Steve!! I spent most of yesterday trying to activate them with no luck. I can't wait to see what I was missing. Great work!!
Edit: I also confirm that after flashing your zip, they're working perfectly.
Like a boss! That's awesome man, very impressive. Without having to dig through the entire apk could you let us know which xml you had to edit or how you managed to achieve this? It was so elusive for me lol.

It's the tabbed style pulldown like in Sense 2.1/3.0. Not the CM style toggles at the top of the status bar.

Pull down the notification bar and touch the "quick settings" tab on the bottom right.

I'm on McSenseless and when I pull the notification bar down there no tabs at the bottom? Hmmm
Is this because sense UI has been deleted and replaced with LauncherPro?

Worked great on my custom gingersense Rom. Thanks
Can anyone tell me how to add a few quicksettings like silent, vibrate and the such, or is this something a dev needs to do? I will be going to McSense as soon as these are implemented.
Worked great, I just used UOT on the file, mixed it up with Liberation 2.0 Beta 5, a new set of battery icons, and green overscroll. Now I just need one with Brightness, Rotation Lock, and screen timeout!
Thanks for the hard work, very appreciated!

Just flashed the quick settings and they work flawlessly. Thanks a ton!! This rooted OTA is getting better and better daily.
I know that i can click and hold the home button to show recently used/running apps but I would prefer to just drag down the statusbar and see 8 icons of recently used apps.
I have tried different apps from market but most of them show a button that mimics holding down the home button instead of showing icons directly in the notifications area.
Any help with this would be appreciated. Thanks!

Tried both but like I said in the original post. I'd like it to show icons of recently used apps horizontally. The second one is a full status barcreplacement and I don't want that. Appreciate your help
Use an HTC device? I'm not sure, but check out UOT Kitchen and see if they have that option. Basically you build your own status bar from scratch. I haven't heard any methods of using recently used apps in the Notification bar except for HTC.
