i wanted to know if it is possible to create a code wher i can light my phone screen when it is locked with the camera button on my motorola milestone, because my power button is not working now and i am not under warranty anymore, is it possible ?
You might want to try Lock 2.0. A quick google search led me to this: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.google.code.p.slideunlocker2&feature=search_result

You can do it by hand
- Use RootExplorer, go to \system\usr\keylayout, find the file yourself (I use 2.3.4, so mine is sholes-keypad.kl)
- You will see FOCUS, add WAKE:
key 211 FOCUS WAKE
- Reboot, and just touch the camera key to see what happens...

Of course, but I'm using CM7.1.0 RC10 (2.3.4), and I think this trick will wokr on other ROM, you must edit correct .kl file
Terminator: cat /proc/device-tree///name
and see what is written
Cronos Froyo v1.8.1 can do this, I like this function very much, so I search a lot to make it work on other ROM

Hi Devs,
I am trying to port an awesome rom from the i9000 forum, it's Surface 2.1. I've got everything working fine w/ Talon 0.4.3. But I cannot figure out how to get the home button to work, let alone haptic feedback. I've tried messing around with the Services.Jar file but I couldn't get anything working.
I've seen a thread about the haptic fix for jvp but I don't know if it will work in JVQ. I was hoping a dev could chime in and let me know what I need to do.
Sorry if this is the wrong forum to post this.
Thanks,
Rich
The one from JVP works on all GB ROM, I can't find the link, but if you can post the link and I can verify it for you.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1184814
Found it here it is.
here you go
Edit: this will get you the home button fix. but no haptic.
sorry pal
You want to go to into the system/user/keylayout/melfastouchkey and add
Key 102 HOME "And like WAKE-DROPPED or something I cannot remember"
That will give you the home key for the Captivate.

To get home button to work use whatever Dlev mentioned. For home haptic you need to do smali editing in android.policy.jar
I tried the zip file, unfortunately it didn't work, even to make the home button function...

I just downloaded Snail too and tried that. v13-T1, same thing... no reaction from the home key...
The back key and settings key work as expected though.
Thanks for the help.
Edit: I just looked at the file on the phone and it's not the one from the zip... looks like the update.zip didn't copy it properly! Let me play with this now.
Edit: 2 it's working!! For some reason the zip file didn't update the file on the phone.
Thanks to everyone.

i have run into the same problem with SH4.0. i have tried the zip and no luck on home function. can someone provide a link on how to be able to appply home botton for I9000 gb roms on the captivate.

If you read xcaliburinhand's kernel thread, he has a zip in there you can flash to fix the home button. Or you can unzip it to put it directly in the ROM. Worked when I ported H&F. Thus is non-aosp right?

Thanks, I know about this option. But I don't like it. I need to make screenshots from dynamic games. Pressing power button causes game pause and I can't make any good screenshot. That's why I'm asking about hotkey, like menu+power in stock rom.
Download screenshot app by kastor soft. There is a "shake to capture".

question.... are you using a theme?
Find the additional tweaks/lines in build.prop to enable or disable the unlock via menu button. It will be at the bottom end at the very least as lines are added there.

No i am not.. i am just using the default zeam laucher which comes with zeus and default settings of that...Hope i answered ur question.
I dissabled the lock-screen using No-Lock from the app market. It made a HUUUUGE impact in usability! IL never use lockscreen again. Its just a gimmick for showing off to friends.
Hey guys, I've seen a couple of people asking around for a mod to remap our "useless" search button. So I found the easy DIY solution!
Not sure if it's the same across all sense roms, so do hit me back on that! I did this for NIK's Aura Rebirth V3. (Thanks Nik, loved it! :highfive: )
*I'm an android noob, curiosity gave me a cat.
1. Using a root explorer, go to system/usr/keylayout
2. The file you're editting here is atmel-touchscreen.kl, so make a back up of it on your SDCARD just in case.
3. Next you'll see key 102, 139, 158, 217, 249
4. 217 should be originally your search button, indicated by "SEARCH"
5. Switch that with "APP_SWITCH" , do a hot restart, and you're good to go!
Did this using ES with root setting enabled.
Replace your SEARCH button with a RECENT APPS button!
Download a recovery-flashable .zip:
Use this to revert to an original functionality of a search button. It will become search again.
disable-recent-search.zip
Use this to make your search button a recent apps button
enable-recent-search.zip

It seems the other way around. I used this in my AOSP CM9 ROM by simply editing atmel.kl. I tried incorporating it into my Sense ROM and GB recent apps show up.. I've been looking for a few hours now, does anyone know how to fix this? I've found some related threads, but nothing that helps me.
