[Q]Wifi connects but there is no data transfer - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I connect to wifi in my office fast and easy but there is no data transfer and I can not open any webpages (always receive "web page not available")
a friend of mine has captivate but he can connect and receive web pages the router also works with my laptop
I'm on 2.3.4 jvp rom but on previous roms (2.3.3) also have the same problem, I searched the internet and the forum but could not find anything.
Anyone encounter such problem before?

Are you sure its not the office wifi security that isn't the problem?
GTi9000 insanity cm012/glitch

I dont think so because samsung captivate and iphone can connect moreover my laptop also connected to the same router

I got the same trouble... I am able to have wifi connection but have no data transfer. Did you solve your trouble? What have you done since June?

Might it be hardware or this only occur with particular routers

So the issue isn't with the router, can only be with the phone.
Question now is: Do you have WiFi access anywhere else?
First thing I'd recommend is to double check your WiFi advanced options to make sure that there is no pre-configured options. No static IP, no set gateways, all of that put it in automatic.

[Q] Cannot use wifi tethering

Hello everybody, I've searched on the forum, but I cannot find a solution to my problem. When I try to connect my iPad or my MacBook to the internet through my SGS I cannot surf the web. I mean, I can connect to the SGS via the wifi connection but it looks like there is no internet connection.. I am on Darky 7.0 rom. Is there any kind of setting which I have to make to be able to get an internet connection? Thanks for your help
Yeah, same issue with me.

Hope somebody has a solution...
Do you have a weak signal? I noticed when my signal is weak i can connect but the internet doesn't work.
No the signal is at the maximum but there is no internet connection..
any help?
I'm also having the same problem on 7.5 and 7.6. Maybe bring this up in his thread?
Edit: Im in an area with HSDPA for data too, but when I switch to tethering via wifi or even USB, it doesn't switch to HSDPA. And it wont let me browse the net from a PC. Browsing within the phone works fine.
check your APN settings if they are correct
If my APN settings won't correct I wouldn't be able to browse from the handset itself, which I can do no problem. Its only when I tether.

[Q] Internet connection problem

Hello everybody!
This is my first log in here, because I got a new Nexus One this weekend and I heard that your forum is one of the best about it.
So, I have a problem with the internet connection. My Nexus One is connected (the internet connection is exellent and I use it now with my laptop) but it just doesn't works. When I try to use the browser application or an another app, which needs internet connection, the application says that I have a problem with the internet and I can't use it. Any ideas ? Thanks!
Does it do this on all routers or just your home router if it's just on your home router?
It does this on all routers. Everything is okay now. It works fine. But that happens periodically and I don't know what's wrong with my phone. Now I'm trying to flash my phone from 2.2 to 2.3 and we'll see what will happens with it.
Ok well if you need any help with flashing the update (like if you're on a carrier tweaked ROM) then just ask.

No connection over WiFi

Hello,
I got the 2.2.1 SuperBled Rom installed on my G1.
Since a few days i cannot use the connection over WiFi.
after turning it on it finds all the access points around and also builds up a connection to my router. i get an ip from my router and everything seems fine.
but i cant use that connection, nothing is working, no market, nothing through the browser, no mails etc. the connection is displayed as connected all the time.
i have not changed any settings on the phone nor on the router.
it worked fine before. it also doesnt work with any other access points like at my uni or friends place.
i can still use the internet through mobile networks.
any suggestions what the problem might be ?
thanks in advance
cheers
I am having the exact same issue but a Rooted Nexus S with CyberGR v10.

Wifi keep disconnecting at random when using Virtual Router

Hello
I'm using MiniCM7
My WiFi sleep setting is set to 'Never'
I have no problems using WiFi when connecting to typical routers etc, but when i use Virtual Router software to share my PC internet the connection in my phone drops and reconnects after short while (like 0-10seconds).
I'm using Virtual Router because most of others apps including Win7 built-in have failed to establish connection at all.
Is there any solution for this?
Thanks.
I have this problem too
Yes, yes. So it is a problem with virtual router. I think it worth to buy the real router)
I really doubt it's the software issue.
All those programs should provide WiFi Hotspot. It's impossible that all of them are flawed. I think it's more technical, the way android connects to such hotspots.
To compare. Win7, Connectify and few other programs make my phone go 'connecting > retrieving IP > disconnected' loop.
I would like to update this.
My Gf have Galaxy mini 2 GT-S6500D with stock android 2.3.6. She can stay connected to same WiFi hotspot without issues where's my X8 is still disconnecting after very short while.
So i'm guessing it's X8 fault, not software.
IAmNice said:
If its x8 fault then why dont you go to the shop you bought it and ask them there. We cant help with hardware issues.
Click to collapse
Because all x8 users have this on those kind of WiFi's. Normal router WiFi works.
I just pointed this out because maybe there is some sort of fix for this (software solution)

[Q] Cable modem/router: Wifi signal ok but no connection

Hi guys,
My phone: Samsung Galaxy S3, GT-I9305, Android 4.1.2
I changed the ISP (Germany: To Unitymedia) and are now supposed to use a cable modem which as well serves as wifi router. My hardware is TC7200 (Technicolor).
After setting up everything, the wifi connection to Win 7 laptop and Apple iPhone/iPad is working fine (also LAN connection to laptop of course).
The S3 showed a funny behavior: It is possible to establish a wifi connection and it gets IP address assigned. Default gateway, DNS server looks all fine. However, this is only the wifi signal but not an internet connection. It is not possible to reach any website.
The strange thing: If the google site is cached (from a different connection and then switching back to this problematic one) I can run a google search and get results displayed. However, it is not possible to open any websites displayed as results here.
I tried several things based on suggestions in the net, like restarting the s§, using static IP address, changing wifi ports, disabling wifi encryption completely, restart the router, factory reset the modem/router. Finally I performed a factory data reset for the S3 but this as well, like all other things, did not help. The phone was never rooted until before yesterdays factory reset, because I wanted to use Titanium Backup which requires root rights.
Of course, in all other wifi networks so far, this S3 works absolutely fine!
I am not sure if this matters at all, but with the new ISP I got an IPv6 IP address while before I had IPv4.
To be honest, it might simply be a hardware problem which has to be fixed by Firmware upgrade by ISP. This problem is sort of known to them and when I called in they promised a firmware update in November. But anyway, it would be interesting to understand more about it and usually there is a solution for everything Nevertheless, I couldn't find a solution in any forum yet.
Any suggestions / ideas welcome.
Thanks!
EDIT:
Post already moved.
Reads like wrong settings more than hardware .
WiFi is kernel you can flash a kernel .
But i would reboot router and phone then set up wifi with no security first .
