I have the Darky 10.1 Rom installed on my SGS but there is no Samsung Ring tone installed so I downloaded it but I can't move it to the correct media folder.
Using ES File explorer I go to /sdcard/tunes
I press and hold Samsung_tune.ogg and then click copy
I then move to System/Media/Audio/Ringtones
when I click paste I get "Samsung_tune.ogg copy failed"
Can anyone help with moving this file to the right directory so I can set it as a ringtone??
Other possibility: you have an folder called 'music', right? In this folder you create a folder named 'ringtones'. In this folder you copy all downloaded ringtones and you should be able to use them as ringtone. (same is possible with notifications)
Are you sure you are set to r/w when you are doing this?

Get root explorer from the market, when you use it you will see r/o and r/w options at top of the screen, hopefully then you should be able to achieve mission! Atb

I'll have a look at getting that.

If you long press on the file in root explorer you can thumb down to: open with text editor...
Then after you save it it automatically makes a copy of the original file just in case you need to revert

Correct, also make sure you're in r/w, not r/o otherwise it won't let you edit or save

Even though you're on another phone, if your rom is in a zip format. You can simply:
- Unzip the rom
- Locate the build.prop
- Open it with wordpad or notepad++
- Edit it
- Save it
- Rezip the rom
- Flash
Well he would also have to edit the update script if he doesn't use a program like winrar or 7zip. Simply extracting the rom zip and making edits to the bp then rezipping the rom won't work. When he goes to flash it if I'm not mistaking it will give the update script error.
Root/Hack_Mod-Always*
Probabely quite simple but I can't seem to figure it out... :s
Where do personal (ie .mp3) notifications and ringtones go?
/mnt/sdcard/media/audio/notifications doesn't seem to work.
Neither does writing the different folders with or without capitals.
I've tried several other combinations as well (/mnt/sdcard/audio, /mnt/sdcard/notifications, etc.)
It used to work on 2.2 and come to think of it broke with the upgrade to 2.2.1.
Is there anyone here who can help me?
Sincerely yours,
Jeroen.

And your phone should be rooted and a root explorer is required for this.
Thanks
Thank you for your responses.
My phone is rooted and I already tried pushing the files onto /system
However it should (and used to) work by putting the audio files *somewhere* on /mnt/sdcard - but where?!
The HTC uses that /UI kind of folder structure. The i9000 uses (so it seems) a different one. Android 2.2 allowed me to put audio notification files in /mnt/sdcard/notifications.
Information i gave was for 2.2.1 or before file is in front of me as described .
jje
I see. I'm currently on 2.3.3 any idea on how to make it work?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
You would need to open a 2.3.3 rom and locate the files .
jje
I think I'm being misunderstood...
Where can I put .mp3 files on /mnt/sdcard so they show up in notifications selection list on a i9000 running 2.3.3?
I know where to put these files using root access on /system. So no need to look 'in' a 2.3.3 ROM
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Its weird this because I had though the opposite. MP3 tones that I made in ringmaker that appeared in the ringtone list on my previous ROM (MIUI) appeared in the notifications list not ringtones!
Anyway, for me its sd/media/audio and I have a /ringtones and /notifications folder in there. They didn't appear until a reboot after I lagfixed though

I am using rooted JVU firmware and would like to install ICS keyboard to my system/app.
I used Root Explorer to copy the apk file into the directory and did a reboot, and the keyboard appeared on my locale and text menu.
However, when I try to select the keyboard, it always return a force close.
Can anybody teach me on how to solve this issue?
There is a thread called "How to: Push apps(.apk)" - you will have to try to use the search function for that name cause I don't think I can post a link yet

You can also try an app called "system cleanup". I'm not sure if it's on the market but there is a thread where you can dl it or you could use titanium pro

Ics keyboard is made to work on android 4.0.x framework ported from Nexus S, ok?
As you revealed in OP you are using Sammy JVU 2.3.6 TouchWiz infected framework.
Why not try to rip out HTC keyboard and push that too while you're in the mood?
When you push an ask to system/app am I write in saying it does not deleted in factory reset..??
What about pushing to system system/media..??
When pushing an apk to system folder,u need root and there is 2 easy ways, either use a root explorer and just push it to the system/app folder or use titanium backup to revert to system app.factory reset(full wipe) doesn't wipe system apk,but everthing else is wiped..
U can also push apk to system via ADB.but a little bit of knowledge is needed

To be able to see /system you need to use root explorer or es file explorer.
Both has root mode to give you right to see and change system stuff.
And also mode to mount system as rw (read write).
Go through the settings and you will see.
Only then you can place modem.bin there.

Where do you find the "modem.bin" file? I've looked all over and all I can find is "modemconfig" and "modemlog". Putting either of those in /system/vendor/ doesn't do anything at all. I really like this ROM, but having a mobile network would make it even better.
in dev subforum there is a sticky Modem Thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1069727
choose your modem, unzip it, there is modem.bin
watch where to place the modem.bin
in most ICS/JB rom (CM or AOKP or Sapir) it is /radio/modem.bin
only in a very few build of CM10 it was in /system/vendor/modem.bin
so it is likely /radio/modem.bin for you
HI
i have downloaded S4 ringtones
and i put it in system-madie-ringtons
but when i open it i see the ringtons but
when i press on it it mike
bip and not the ringtons
i am useing new maclaw rom cm11
thank for all helpers
:fingers-crossed:
You don't have to put them in system ringtones just put them in your SD card then press and hold the song you want to add as ringtone then select " use as ringtone " :good:
Yes I know that but it most easy when it on systems folder for the sms ring and clock
Sent from my GT-I8190 using Tapatalk
you must set permission to rw-r-r for all ringtones copied to system - otherwise they donĀ“t work.

I use both
But you can do it with Solid Explorer.
Copy it to /system/tmp, set permission to rw-r-r (longpress on the file)
then copy it to the ringtones folder.
