hi i was wondering has anyone on tmobile got the official gingerbread yet? ive seen loads of people have got gingerbread through rooting but im scared of bricking my phone and dont see huge benefits from rooting it. if any one could tell me if gingerbread is out, that would be grateful and if anyone could tell me the benefits of rooting and a very easy way of rooting that would be great. Thanks again

So, now that there is a proper update for 2.2
Im wondering if i should remove my rom and update it to the normal one.
Im currently using the gingerbread cappy clone.
Can anyone let me know if 2.2 is much faster (than the 2.2 roms) or has some extra features.
Thanks
What you're calling a "proper update" is only for Rogers and it isn't.
Im sorry, could you clarify what you mean when you say its not a proper update?
And sorry for not saying before, but i bought my captivate from Rogers.
I've read here and elsewhere that the update was through Kies (Samsung) and not an authorized Rogers update and that therefore they are not supporting it.
Hmm, allright, i guess il wait for it then. Thanks
Hi,
I bought Samsung Captivate in US and now use it in India. I would like to upgrade to android 2.2 official version but am not sure how to do it without using att network.
Would appreciate your help if you can point me to any existing thread or any instructions on how to upgrade.
Thanks,
Vijay
Didn't think there was an "Official" OTA from AT&T. I know Rogers received an update but not AT&T.
If there is you would be able to get it in the Dev forum as I'm sure someone would have created an Odin 1-Click for it.
If you're that anxious to add Froyo, your best bet is to use a port of the Rogers release. I think the latest Cognition has it. Otherwise wait a little longer to see if ATT does release an update and someone will surely create a ROM that you can flash.

For how to install custom ROMs, use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884364
For custom ROMs , there are many..
use cognition based on the Rogers official build

Thanks for your response and help. Surprised to know that att has still not launched the froyo version since its' available by Samsung directly.
I am new to this forum and the whole installing custom roms process so appreciate the links.

Hello,
I have a unlocked and rooted Captivate. Recently in installed OCLF Lag Fix and did "OneClickLagFix V2+". It is safe to update to android 2.2 from 2.1? If yes, then what is the best way?
Thanks in advance.
Hello xda-developers,
I am a noob once again in desperate need on guidence on my new device...
i have had iPhones since the very First ever iPhone so recently when i decided to sell my iPhone 4S and my iPad 2 to buy 1 device the Samsung Galaxy Note i was making a huge risk as i have never used anything other than ios but i made the risk and couldnt be happyier,
Now onto the more serious part on why i have created this thead...i need assistance on how to go about rooting my device
It's a Brand New Samsung Galaxy Note White Euro model, i wanted uk but couldnt find it in stock anywhere and had to order online, i think it came from germany as when i checked the tracking thats were it was dispatched from,
I have been doing alot of reading on these forums and others around the internet and i think i have it right but because my model might be a germany handset but dontknow for sure from what i can tell it has
baseband version N7000XXLA4
kernal version N7000XXLA6
from what i can sorta understand because its on N7000XXLA6 it cannot be rooted direcly and needs to be downgraded to a lower firmware? also is the kernal version the firmware version?
sorry for the noobish talk i wanna get this right as i dont wanna damaged my new device...do i need to downgrade my firmware to be able to root my device?
my plan is to once offical ics comes out to have offical ics installed then root the device then remove all the bloatware from it and make it original pure clean ics kinda like the nexus no samsung crap on it but have root access for extra features like gamepad support like ps3 controllers and other features.
i have tryed to work out the best thing to do so far i am stuck with thinking my device cant be directly rooted and i dont wanna jump in a fiquire out the hard way as iknow rooting isnt as easy and jailbreaking.
i can't wait to hear feedback and help tips and tricks from the community and also very big thanks in advance for taking te time to read this

Your Rom is too new to be rooted directly, you got that right. Go to this thread and download any Rom older than N7000DXKL3 (I prefer N7000XXKK9, it's easily rooted using zergrush method, but it's your choice, of course). Then you can proceed with flashing your downloaded Rom via PC Odin (detailed instructions with pictures in the said thread).
Then visit this thread for instructions on rooting your Rom (find 'Method 2: Root + CWM recovery' and follow it to the letter).
Once you're rooted, you can either upgrade to the latest stock Rom and keep your root, or flash any of the custom Roms available in the Dev section.
Good luck.
u can also go to youtube n refer ashwin tutorial how to root...it will help u a lot coz u can see n know what u doing...follow exactly teh instruction n u will not face any problem..happy rooting...
i give the link to help u save time..

Hello.
I recently got an Orange branded Galaxy S I9000 (baseband I9000BVJV3 and Android 2.3.5). I am wanting to get CM9 installed on it but first I obviously require a root. A lot of the roots I have seen around are for different baseband versions to this phone, though I don't know if this makes any difference. If anyone know a way I could root this phone I would be grateful if you could help me out a little and post it
Thanks!
