I'll answer your question with a statement. I've taken an I9000 ROM and swapped out a Captivate Kernel and different modem and loaded it. Theoretically you could do the same with a Vibrant ROM. Having said that if the ROM you are looking to port is using a custom kernel itself you've just defeated the whole purpose. If that's the case you'd have to compile the kernel to work with the Captivate.

Give me some advice - Which kernel should I use for my daily drivers? X-Post

Hello XDA,
I recently acquired a Samsung Telus T959D Fascinate and have anxiously waiting for a ICS release.
In order to use ]teamhacksung's ICS Port for Galaxy S (BUILD 9) for my fascinate, I used >>This Thread<< to flash a i9000 kernel to use the ROM.
Now I am confused a bit. I've done some research on XDA and google, but for some reason can't get a straight answer on what to do in order to flash back a regular Samsung Fascinate ROM, such as CM7.1. I want to flash back, but I don't know which kernel to use because I am currently using the i9000 kernel.
I could flash one by Glitch and try CM7.1 from there, but I'm not sure what the voodoo lagfix option is and why it would brick my phone.
If any of you could recommend a kernel to flash to use regular Fascinate ROMs, and a kernel to use for i9000 ROMs, it would be greatly appreciated
I would reccomend Lords kernel v 9.3 BFS. If you like I can send you the download.

[Q] GT-i9000 Most "samsung" ICS rom?

Hello dear XDA fellows.
I know questions like these are not very popular but I am on very short time to research and experiment. Also, not familiar with Galaxy S i9000 rom scene at all.
I need a rom for this phone, which will be used by a complete newbie to android/smartphones/touchscreens, so I cant expect them to know anything about tweaks or launchers.
I need a rom that is stable, looks most stock/Touchwiz (and/or feature rich) and preferably ICS. Preferably a port of SGS2 ICS or even modified SGS GB builds are fine.
Phone is currently running some CM9 ics build and is rooted. Thank you all for your recommendations
If you want GB try stock jw8 + semaphore kernel.
You can find the latest stock roms in ramads thread. Search it in the general section. You can find there all the instructions on how to flash with odin.
Cheers,

Port Lollipop Kernel from i9000 to Captivate i896

Hello guys,
So i have succesfully ported a i9000 Lollipop rom for my Galaxy S Captivate and it boots and works fine, but i want to port a kernel also, i found this kernel from the i9000 forums http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s-i9000/i9000-development/kernel-omni-kernel-t3217587
But i'm having a hard time finding a way to port it, can anyone link me somewhere that explains how to port the kernel that i posted above for my device? Or if anyone has the ability to, can you port it for me and upload it?
Thank you very much.
