Are Google short on Android developers? - Off-topic

I was browsing the Android issues page here:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/list
And it seems most bugs and enhancement requests are not implemented.
Does anyone know exactly how many google developers work on the android operating system?
Speaking of enhancement requests does anybody know if there is already an app that implements the following enhancement request:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=17852

As far as the enhancement request, i believe that juice defender allows you to set these settings per app. However I think you have to manually do it with each new app you install..

[Q] How do i use the native sound recorder?

Since January I've wondered why all smartphones come with sound recorders yet my superphone didn't have one. Yes I feel stupid, I was looking at my applications list in settings under "manage applications" and I finally came across "sound recorder", clearly marked. But how do I use it?
I have a decent third party recorder but only because I thought android left out one of the most basic of functions, but it is an HTC android superphone afterall so of course it has the basics that all major operating systems offer (plus much more of course ), I should've had more confidence in android in the first place. Anyway, I found the application I just can't figure out how to use it. I'd love some help. I thought about putting this in the apps section, but I'm really just asking where the app is, the app/theme section seems like more of an in depth review/analysis/about area, sorry if its the wrong section. Thanks for any help
I've been wondering this aswell, i like you also found the app but could never "use" it also there isnt a notes application or a stop watch, I personallly hope this gets added in the Android 3.0 Update.

I think that'll happen. There are good 3rd party options, but I prefer android/Google's own apps especially on the basic stuff that ought to be integrated natively anyway. Hopefully gingerbread adds features as well as fluidity to the ui. I guess the "sound recorder" is a lark? Or maybe they intended to include one but couldn't figure it out and left the name in the app list, its 0 MB afterall...
Try the following (if you have android 2.2):
go to flickr.com and sign in
click upload photos
after selecting "choose file" you'll see a popup where your options will be "gallery" "music track" or "sound recorder"
when you select "sound recorder" you'll go to what i assume is the native sound recording app.
i'm sure there is another way to get to the recorder but this is the only one i've found so far
funny I was just looking for this. It seems there's a 1.99$ app on the market that adds a shortcut for the native Sound Recorder. How silly to pay 2 bucks for a shortcut to something already on your phone ... it's called "Sound Recorder" too and it has the same icon as the one supposedly on our phones.
I'm sure it'll be fixed soon enough...
Use Anycut to create a desktop shortcut to Sound Recorder. The audio files are saved on SD.

Great replies thanks, I'm going to try the shortcut I think. Its very strange but android doesn't do things rationally. Its just very cool to know its accessible and not just a title. Also weird that one of these awesome development hasn't incorporated a shortcut with a rom. Or maybe they have and I just haven't come across it...

[APP] SwitchMe Root Profile Manager needs INCS testers please!

Hi everyone. Im one of the developers of SwitchMe, and app that allows multiple secure logins into separate installations of android on a single device. The pr is after the break.
I really need a few people to check into some issues people on some roms have been experiencing. There are some warnings involved:
- testers must perform a full nandroid backup before using the app, it is not our responsibility if you start getting boot loops
- if you report results or bugs, please use the "Write to us" function in the app whenever possible, and always describe the issue in the header of the logs you send
- if you post here, be sure to include your device type and rom
- if you have apps installed on sd, be sure to mention that as well
--------------------------------------------------------------------
SwitchMe is a unique application for root users that allows you to log in and out of multiple installations of Android just as you would on a desktop computer.
The technology behind SwitchMe saves all of your applications and data, protects it and stores it as a file in memory. You can then log out of an
account and log into a fresh installation of Android or another account with its own unique content.
You may create as many profiles as the memory is capable of holding. Some of these may require very little free memory because they contain few apps,
others will be larger as they contain many applications and lots of cache and data.
Why is this functionality useful?
Privacy - the most obvious benefit is that you can securely share one device among multiple users, which gives you privacy and peace of mind.
Testing - if you are a developer, you can use profiles as clean sandboxes to test your applications and their interaction with the system.
Gaming – with multiple installations of Android on a single device, you can now play online MMOs as different characters.
Speed - the games your kids play slow down your tablet, but with SwitchMe you can easily create profiles without games or instant messengers.
Battery life - when the battery is low but there are important emails or documents to edit later, switch to a profile which only contains these essentials.
These of course are only suggestions - there are plenty of other uses for the functionality SwitchMe offers.

The Lite version allows the creation of two profiles, enough to test on.
Screens:
Just started to test it, created 2 profiles : one main, one for testing the switching. After first switch, loading circle started, remained stuck for 10secs (same happens when switching back), then restarted. New loading screen showed up, first load took about 5-7mins. After all loaded, switchme requested SU perms and new google account interface started.
One possible bug i noticed, usually when new google account interface starts, the mobile data service is started so you would have connectivity. This time it didn't start (i had it turned off in profile 1, then switched to profile 2). Although it works properly, it just didn't start at first startup.
All my installed/downloaded applications are not included in the app drawer, so that works nice.
But a drawback i noticed. If the app is focused on the privacy part of sharing one device, gallery pics&videos are accessible from both profiles, so you might want to think of a way of restricting pics&vids accessibility only to the profile that created them (big challenge from my point of view).
All default installed application seem to work without a problem.
One strange thing i noticed, our custom ROM has Beats audio included - in profile 1 (my default one) switching Beats audio on/off works, but on profile 2 (newly created profile) switching it off makes it stuck on off (switching it back on has no effect on audio).
As i don't have a necessity for this app to run it as a daily profile switcher, can't test more in-depth scenarios, but if you want something tested/have a scenario, write it up here or send a PM. Good luck with the development.
Using Nik IncredibleS Trinity SensationXL4.0 ROM (2.3.5 android with 3.5 sense) with included 2.6.35.14 RCMIX VIVO kernel (with my HTC Incredible S S710e).
SwitchMe 1.2 has been rolled out and now includes a lockscreen replacement:
1.2
Added lock screen for logging in and out

PLEASE CHECK IT OUT AND BE KIND
Touch Blocker Beta - a simple but useful app that makes holding and using your device easier
There are two basic functions:
- create dead zones where touches do not register
- filter the screen when reading in low light
We are already in a relatively stable Beta release - whats left now is adding new features and making it all look pretty. You can follow this process at the thread here.
Please be sure to write suggestions - we are looking forward to engaging the community and building a useful and nifty application that many will enjoy!

Is the latest version working well?
I take it everything is fine?
1.5.3.8
Fixed issue switching profiles (One X and others)

Fixed many device specific issues from user logs
- Only bug/or maybe a feature I noticed is The app itself have different settings between logons. I mean If I optimize in one logon, I must made the same changes in other account too. Its sometimes frustating.
- And the setting "logout automatically" not worked correctly. When I speak to someone on phone and proximty turn of the screen, and I remove phone from my ear, It shows the logon screen, everytime.
Seems like everything worked flawlesly. But I have a question. What happens if I uninstall the program?

Lets use our brains to think logically. If it was possible to disable any security by calling the phone, what would be the point of any security at all?

You didnt get my point. This is happen when im on the phone with someone. I need to logon an account to hangup and this take time. If you think logically; I must be already logoned to a profile before starting to speak someone.
Sorry for my bad English.

Ah now i see what you mean. However, my logic is still right. You are using it on a phone, and phones are not well suited to automatic log off. I mean just how often do you need to switch profiles? Surely you should be doing it manually...

Facebook android app integration. Help needed.

Hey guys, I'm relatively new to the android programming scene and I'm trying out a simple app idea I have. My app idea is to be a way for people to make posts to facebook and that's it. I've got the code working but what really bugs me is how the logging in system works and how the posting system works. The way I have done it, the app does not handle the authentication flow nor the posts, but rather a pop-up comes up and asks them to sign in or make a post - similar to using the browser. This does not work with the design of the rest of the app along with slowing it down. I need help. I want my app to authorize the user, similar to how the official Facebook android app logs people in; there are no pop-ups and everything is handled by the app (same to be done with making posts). If you guys could help me out by blatantly telling me what to do, sending me any articles that explain how to do it, or any other help I would appreciate it. Thanks!
NOTE: I have glanced around the Facebook developer site and I'm completely confused by their documentation. I know there's something about fragments, but I'm not sure if I understand it completely.
Okay guys, I found this thread at Stack Overflow and found the answer. In case anyone else had a similar question. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/...x-send-to-the-users-wall-with-facebooks-andro

[VIDEO PRODUCERS NEEDED!] What Is Your Perfect Teleprompter?

As a filmmaker, I shoot several different types of videos. One thing I have been trying to do is find a cost efficient teleprompter. With so many inexpensive tablets on the market, using an Android app seems like the most logical solution to this problem. I have tried several apps so far but none of them seem to fit my needs 100%.
I am not a developer, I am a filmmaker. I do however, have spoke to a developer interested in helping me solve my problem by creating a app from the ground up that is design exactly how I want it to be with the functionality that it needs. Before embarking on this task I would like to get some feedback from other video professionals and app developers alike on things ranging from currently available apps, things that are wrong with currently available apps & features that would be included in The Perfect Teleprompter App.
I expect that there will be a lot of responses that say there are options currently available and that the need for yet another teleprompter app does not exist. That being said, unless I find an app that has an interface that I like, the functionality that I need and the peripherals to make it even better, I will probably continue to pursue this project. THE PURPOSE OF THIS THREAD is to allow other filmmakers to provide their input and thoughts about what the perfect teleprompter app would be.
Features I currently have in mind (This list will change as I receive feedback. ):
Clean, Usable Interface
Dropbox and Google Drive Access
In App Editing
Speed Control during prompting
Text Size Options
Light & Dark themes
Movable Location Arrow (An arrow on the side of the screen that allows you to move it vertically to show the target location of the line being read.)
Bluetooth connection so your phone could be used as a remote.
Wired remote option
Mirror Mode
Scroll to any part of the script and start it rolling from that location
Free, fully functional version (No Ads)
Custom app branding (change splash screen to display your companies logo)
I want this thread to be a way for all of us to collaborate and make an app that we all enjoy using. It is a big project for me to take on and because of that, I feel it would be silly to keep it all to myself. Please post any suggestions, questions, idea or concerns. My goal for this project is to finally provide a teleprompter that does exactly what we need it to do as a producers. Thank you for the help and feedback and hopefully together we can get this app launched for everyone to use.
Thank you so much,
zpeverman

Android 11 Developer Preview Launched By Google

February 20th. According to foreign media reports, Google launched the developer preview version of the next version of the Android operating system
New reported features.
1- "context-aware Bluetooth flight mode", that is, when the mobile phone is connected to a Bluetooth headset or a hearing aid, turning on the flight mode, Bluetooth will not be turned off.
2- A reverse wireless charging function, called "Battery Share".
3- Users will now be able to grant one-time location access to applications.
4- Android 11 brings a new link API to support 5G networks, so developers can take advantage of the improved speed and latency provided by 5G, such as making the app automatically provide the corresponding high-quality video when a high-quality network is detected.
5- Android 11 also adds a Bandwidth Estimator API that allows developers to easily determine the amount of downstream / uplink bandwidth available without the application having to query or calculate their own estimates.
6- Android 11 has added the function of levitating chat bubbles. As long as the APP uses a new API, the ongoing conversation can be suspended in the form of bubbles on the screen.
7- In addition, copy and paste have also been upgraded. If the app supports direct copy and paste of images, then Android 11 supports pasting pictures directly into the reply of the app, reducing the need for users to cut between multiple apps. Chrome APP now Supported.
8- Android 11 adds a one-time permission for location, microphone, and camera permissions. In other words, an app that has obtained a one-time permission will still ask the user for authorization next time.
9- Screen recording
10- New Motion Sense gestures to pause music.

Honestly the chat bubbles are a big deal and hopefully something the Android developer team is focusing on for the a11 release. Miss the heck out of Halo from paranoid Android team back in the day.
