[Q] Using camera during a call - LG Optimus 2x

Ok, so I tried taking a photo while on a call earlier. Appearently you CAN'T. Camera app won't even start. Anyone got a clue to why this would be? It was just so unexpected.

Cause of camera being reserved for video calling....

that just sucks, I used to take pics with my old K800i whilst in a call. Not tried it on my O2X yet.

How does that make sense? Is LG locking the camera because they want us to ONLY use it for video calls when we're in a call? Or do they need to have it on "standby" in the far fetched case that we'd actually need it for a video call? Can you even change between normal call and a video call? Never tried video calling.
Instead of just letting us take a ****ing photo.
Edit: more importantly, how do we bypass it?

Something like that.

Whilst only the frontcamera can be used for video calling this restriction still doesn't make any sense...

both front and rear cameras are reserved for 3G video calling.
Why does it not make sense? this is the way the phone is designed for users like myself who use 3G video calling regularly. I chose to buy this phone because of this capability - I use it to interact with my kids when I am travelling.
most video call capable mobiles are designed like this. both front and rear cameras are reserved so that you can switch between the cameras depending on what you want to display to the caller. my wife will switch her Nokia N8 to the rear camera when the kids are running around or dancing so I can see them, then switch back when she talks to me. I use my LG O2X cameras during a video call in the same way.
IMHO, it is a well designed phone. now that the stability and battery issues with the ROM are sorted out, it is a real pleasure to use as both a work phone and for fun.

I get how the camera works while in a video call. Reserving it for that purpose while in a normal call still doesn't make any more sense though. Ancient phones can do it. It's like saying you can't use the speaker for games, only music.

Fring w/video?

I have a Vibrant and my mom has an Aria. Tried to Fring Video Call her and, on my end, it said she had no video input but my video was shown and on her end, she saw the cartoon image in my place.
Any ideas on why this isn't working?

Aria does not have a front-facing camera. When you start Fring, it warns you to that fact, and asks whether you want to use video or not. If not, it disables video altogether, if yes, then it uses the outward facing camera. (The video will work, but will be practically useless -- to let the other party see you, you'd have to turn the phone around and point the main camera at yourself, which means that you don't see the screen and YOU won't be seeing the other party.)
Looks like your Mom selected "no" when Fring asked her that question.

I get how it works... But I never had that prompt on my Vibrant. Is it in the settings for her to change?
That would stump me too, because as far as I know Vibrant does not have a front-facing camera either...
It has nothing to do with having a front facing camera. It just has to do with having A camera. Fring doesn't require a front facing camera. It isn't AS cool, but is still semi-cool to do the video chat with the rear cam.
Its Didnt Prompt you because its sa Galaxy S Phone, and The orginal Galaxy S Has Afront Facing Camera so it thinks your on a Galaxy S or Epic 4G it has no way of Knowing that your Model of Galaxy S Dosent Have A Front Camera it Just knows you have a Galaxy S

So what about on my mom's Aria? How do I make it use the rear cam and how do I get hers to view mine?
Just open settings in fring and enable video calls

[Q] Skype with videocall

a friend of mine has a milestone and wants to use skype with videocall! I've read that videocall with skype is only available for some phones!
what do you use for videocalling over the internet or is there a way for making skype do that? perhaps make skype think you have an iphone, just joking!
thanks!
The Milestone does not have a front-facing camera so videochatting is not possible. But I've heard that it uses the regular camera as well, but then you have the screen of your Milestone on the table so it kind of defeats the purpose.
Even being able to receive video would be a good first start.
ok! thanks guys!
I just took a quick look at his milestone and I thot I saw a front facing camera, but I might have seen some sensor...

[Q] Req: 2-way call recording - excl speaker

Hi guys,
I was wondering if someone had that 2-way call recording to work on our phone ? And then I mean the hack which takes away the requirement to have your speakerphone activated ?
Thanks in advance
Guess not

So much interested also. Looking very forward for it with no luck atm
No luck? Anyone has information on what kernel to use for total recall?
As question have been asked many times on the net, Android market and so on, you have only two solutions: either no dev is interested in this, either it's impossible.
I vote for second...
If I understand you right, you would like to record a phone call (having both voices recorded without running the external speaker)?
You can use "Sanity" from market. I use it myself very often. It works fine and the recorded quality is very good. The only thing: you need to have the donated version to really be able to use it, the free version only records a couple of seconds.
Cheers

App for Auto Call Recording without Speakerphone

I am a new user and have switched from symbian to android a fortnight ago.
Apart from the poor battery life which I am learning to train, I would like to have a voice call recording app which will auto record all calls without having the call on speakerphone.
Please don't get into legality since I would like to use them as notes so that I don't need to remember every word. Also I may have taken calls while traveling and may not have 100% recall the next day in office.
I don't mind paying for such an app if it works successfully.
Pl help...
app: record my call
well looks like record my call works fine with android 2.3 incredible s...
initial testing seems fine and the other party doesnt seem to be complaining...
allows you to record in multiple formats and names the file fine too...
the recorded sound is a little weird as if coming from behind a glass or something...
since i need it for taking notes i am okay with that...
the app is adware, wouldn't mind a paid pro version without the ads and better sound quality...
if anyone else has any other apps that work, pl let me know...

We have cm14!!!

Found this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a4D0MZmDMz8 an hour ago. It boots and everything but im still testing for bugs. so far for me camera doesnt work. looking for other to help test for bugs so we can squash them. Thanks to Droid Mobile!!!
In addition to the camera not working, I can not get video/audio playback of any kind. Which sucks because this is a VERY snappy build!

i get audio but no video. and yes indeed it is extremely fast!
I'd love to test for bugs with you two but AFH is currently down for maintenance so I can't get the zip file.
Question, is calling/texting working fine? What about cellular data in general?
Thank you guys for trying it out! I can't test as this is my daily, but I would love to hear more. Nougat seems very promising and I'd love to try it out once it's a little more refined!

Since AFH is still down is there any chance you could re-upload this [temporarily] somewhere else so you can get a few more people to help test it? I'd love to help out.

To my knowledge the site is up right now(just checked). Try the site now.
It boots and it's really fast, but it doesn't have camera or audio/video playback, which means no phone calls either. Bluetooth works though for audio.

New build up for our H811. Looks like all new unofficial builds will be here.
9/21 build has working audio, video, and camera. Data is a bit wonky it gets LTE just fine but 2G/3G seems to be not working for me. Video chat on Facebook Messenger does have some very slight audio drops from time to time but very solid. Also noticed that the video on Facebook Messenger doesn't go proper full screen the notification bar and navigation bar remain on screen.

I'm not sure how you got that to work, I installed 9/21 and I don't have audio, video, or camera at all. Same behavior as 9/14 after clean or dirty flash.

I left a comment over on the LG G4 forum, not this T-Mobile specific one, letting people know what I found working and not working based on the 9/14 build. I received a reply to it which I'm going to quote below.
"Yeah earlier builds didn't have the audio policies fixed; now they do. Obviously the camera is being worked on"
Can anyone else confirm what FlinderMouse said? I'd rather not flash it just yet and I'm skeptical of what AngryManMLS is stating regarding audio/video/camera working in the 9/21 build.

It's 100% safe to install. And since I've had more time to use it here's a more comprehensive list of where things are at right now. Keep in mind we are basically in alpha stage at this point but this is a very solid alpha build. Also keep in mind that this is my own experience with the 9/21 build which could be different from the one you have.
Video Playback - YouTube, Slingplayer, DirecTV all work for me with no issues.
Audio Playback - Google Play Music and PowerAMP work all fine for me with no issues outside of occasional audio drops (see: Bluetooth, Video Over IP).
Video Over IP - Facebook Messenger works but there's some audio drop outs I experienced and it doesn't go proper full screen.
Bluetooth - Both my Bose QC35 and LG G Watch connect and work just fine but Bluetooth itself seems to randomly turn off for no reason. Also had occasional audio drops on my QC35.
LG G Watch - Able to sync properly and do everything from changing music tracks on PowerAMP to using Google Fit with ease.
Data - A little slow to find LTE but that works. 2G and 3G is flaky at best at this point.
WiFi - Connects to my Linksys EA9500 just fine and works just fine.
Phone Calls - Can make and receive phone calls just fine. Obviously no WiFi Calling available but to be honest CM13 at this point doesn't have that implemented for the H811 (T-Mobile) G4 variant.
Camera/Camcorder - On the native CM14 camera app able to take pictures on rear camera no problem. Front (selfie) camera is messed up. Unable to record video. However on Facebook Messenger the front (selfie) camera works with no issues. So camera at this point is semi working.
NFC - It turns on and off... and that's as much as I can tell you since I usually don't use NFC.
And to also note some expected Cyanogenmod features are either missing or are not working at this point. For instance I'm unable to change the battery meter it's stuck on the default one. And the theme engine hasn't been implemented into CM14 at this point but that's a given at this point. Still for what is an alpha level build this is pretty solid and still pretty usable even with the bugs it has right now. The build is very fast for the most part - I did experience occasional lag when turning the phone on and waiiiiiting for the lock screen to appear. Worth giving a run for even a few hours just so you can play around with Nougat for a bit.

I'm on 20o already and based on what you said above I'm sold. I'll flash it this evening and then also report back with my findings.
By chance you haven't tried the camera with the Google Camera, have you? Asking more out of curiosity than a need to know if it works with that fine too.

I actually forgot to test with Google Camera. Interestingly enough video recording at least at 1080p works on Google Camera. Here's a quick test video I did.

Thank you for the excellent builds. Sorry I forgot to write that earlier.
Excellent build for the 9/21. I am using it as a DD for the next few days so Ill update.
Video and Audio seem to working just fine now.
LTE is a little slow to kick in on reboot but nothing worse than the previous CM13 builds
I have had to forced reboots and both revolve around the stock CM gallery. I installed Google Photos since I use it for backups and have had no issues yet. Google camera seems to be working the best so far. I normally use the paid version on Snap Camera but its not playing back the recordings. Smooth snappy in and out of apps and screens. And so far battery life is shaping up to be very good.
On the first install I was having issues. I had to KDZ to stock 20o and then go through the rooting process again before I could get this working. It was just hanging on the "Starting Apps" boot screen and would go no futher no matter how long I let it boot.
Currently running the 9/21 build flashed over 20i. No audio or sim card recognition. I have WiFi luckily . can't install lollipop ROMs, this is the only one that will boot. So based on my experience, I'd say be on 20o when you flash. 20i seems to be totally buggered up. Like I said, I can't even boot lollipop ROMs now so I'll have to kdz to 20o when I get home so my phone will have signal and audio. I've also noticed rotation does not work.
