Is there an Alarm clock that will turn the phone on? My old non smart phone had one where i could turn off my phone ay night and it would automatically turn on and go off.
you would need to design, then build a robotic arm, then install it onto your current alarm clock, then programme it to reach over and turn your phone on using its robotic index finger!
make sure your phone is within reach of the robotic arm.

The old phones worked like that due to not being fully shut down. No possible with a smartphone
The hardware in most, if not all, smartphones has this capability. However, it is not implemented in any sort of standard, so the dev's for Google have not made this functionality available from stock. The carriers have the option to have hardware and software changes made, but none have had this feature enabled.

So this app seems amazing! But I cant seem to get it to work right. I am assuming it will work like SPB phone suite where it can silence my phone and turn off all my data during certain hours and then turn everything back on after that time slot is over. It turns on properly and I love that part but it doesnt seem to turn off. Even after the time slot has ended I have to turn my ringer back up and turn on my BT and GPS. Is it supposed to turn those back on for me or am I missing something?

Check your "defaults". The need to be explicitly set otherwise it will not make changes when it doesn’t have an applicable situation.
Hahahaha, much better! Thank you!
locale
does anyone know how to disable a notification about profile change in Locale?
I want to turn the sound on at 6.30 in the morning but don't want to be waken up by the "ding" it makes when default profile is applied.
Remove Notifications from the list of settings for the situation
Got that already! I have to praise the locale support! sent them an email with this question and got the response back. There is also help section when you click menu within locale so i guess i should have read this first!
I misunderstood the notification feature - I thought it was refering to system global notifications like disabling globally vibration if new sms arrives etc.
So thumbs up to locale support! if only other companies were so helpful!
locale not working in background mode
I used power manager, but because i can't buy apps on the market (NL) so i want to try locale, everything is set, but i have to start the program and then it switches to battery / connected status... So if i plug in my phone i want locale will react immediately instead i have to start it (again and again) and when it's open in my foreground it works perfect. But when it's on background it doesn't work... Can't find settings for this... Any suggestions?
I installed Tasker a while ago, and have it doing a few things, but I see in different threads some people doing some really cool stuff, so I was wondering, what do you use Tasker for?
Just last night I figured out how to get it to tell me who is calling me if I have my headphones with a mic plugged in. The only other thing I've done is make auto-rotation turn on when I open Gallery and turn off when I exit.
Trying to think of other stuff to get it to do.

I like the gallery idea. Did you get the steps/profile from a site, or figure it out. I would be interested in it.

There's a Tasker Wiki that has some good profile ideas here:
http://tasker.wikidot.com/
Here's all the stuff I have setup through Tasker right now, haha:
- Phone brightness goes to lowest level from midnight-6am.
- Silent mode turns on when headphones are plugged in.
- Silent mode turns on when phone is positioned face down.
- Silent mode turns on, Wifi/GPS/BT turn off between 8am-5pm (when I'm at work).
- TweetDeck/Voodoo App start up on boot.
- Data usage check via SMS automatically at 6:30am every day.
- GPS/BT turn off when I'm connected to Wifi, turn on when Wifi is out of range.
- Silent mode turns on when FxCamera is opened.
- GPS is turned on when RunKeeper is opened.
- Auto-rotate is turned on when certain apps are opened.
Tasker is easily the best app I've bought in the Market. PowerAMP is a close 2nd. Haha.

yea, I go to that website too. I use it to turn GPS on and off for certain applications. I also downloaded the profile from the wiki to locate my phone if i lose it.
I think I just got the idea from being frustrated that the gallery hides the pull-down bar. It's simple though:
New task>context>Gallery
Display>rotation>on
It automatically turns itself off without having to add an exit task. As a matter of fact, if you add an exit task to turn rotation back off, it gets stuck sometimes.

A lot of the basic things have very detailed instructions on the wiki.

I also have mine set up to turn on screen filter at night so I don't get blinded when I look at my phone.
Lets see... I never messed around with it too much but I got it to do a few things.
-When I plug in USB, it automatically opens the notification bar so that I can mount it. Not much, but it makes it that much easier.
-When a headphone is plugged in, I have set my media volume down low to protect my ears and it also opens up my music player app automatically.
-From 7:25AM until 2:28PM, my phone automatically enters silent mode for school.
I have only owned Tasker for a few days but already find it indispensable and reason enough to never ever touch a fruity phone again. In the past week I have set up the following on my phone, most of them home-brewed:
1) Screen timeout to 7s when phone placed screen down
2) GPS auto start in apps that need GPS - maps, navigate, places, tracks, etc
3) Set screen timeout to 1hr in certain apps where I am likley to spend more than 30s without touching the screen - internet, reader, NY times, dirty jokes
4) Launch music player when headset plugged it, kill it when headset removed
5) Two sets of night modes - Mon-Fri and Sat-Sunday. They do the same stuff but with different trigger times - all sounds and vibrations except ringer off, no mobile date, no screen rotation. There are few things that are more frustrating than fumbling for my phone while in bed in the morning only to have the screen rotate on me. Ditto for late at night when I might be using the phone in bed lying on my side.
6) Turn Airplane mode on two minutes after loss of service, turn it off two minutes after service is restored. Prevents the phone from pissing away battery when there is no service. Would have preferred to do that based on signal strength but my phone does not report that correctly.
7) Vibrate for all email and messaging apps I use. The developers of many apps do bonehead things such as ignoring the system setting for "Vibrate on notify". Therefore even though my profile #5 above tells the phone not to vibrate at night GMail, Handcent and others will happily ignore you and wake you up. I have set them not to vibrate, then intercept their notifications with Tasker and trigger a vibration from within Tasker. I only wish there was an OR setting for that, so I don't have to maintain separate profiles for each app
8) Wifi auto stop/start when I am near a home cell tower. I also turn off mobile data.
9) Call home mode when I text "Where are you?" to my phone. The phone auto-replies with its GPS coordinates and address.
10) Voice SMS toggle widget - the phone will read my texts to me, e.g., if I am in the car and expect to be there for a while.
Things I wish Tasker would do:
1) Correctly recognize busy/free slots on my calendar. I could then set the phone to mute every time I have a meeting scheduled on my calendar. This would reduce the chance of my phone singing to me in the middle of a meeting... I like big butts and I cannot lie... you catch the drift. The current version claims it can do it but the functionality is broken on my phone. Not sure if it is a custom ROM issue or a Tasker issue.
2) Toggle 2G and 3G. This is not Taskfer's fault, but I really would like to be able to switch to 2G every time Wifi is on, or while I am near a cell tower at work. The signal strength inside the buildings at work is pathetic and leaving 3G on drains the battery big time as the phone continuously tries to boos the signal
3) Some type of readout from the orientation sensors. Imagine all the stupid pet tricks we could do if we had access to orientation-based scripting. Disabling screen rotation wen the phone is nearly horizontal comes to mind. I think Screebl can do that but why pay $2 extra just for that when Tasker ought to be able to do it just as well.
I've had Tasker for a while, and generally like it. It is crazy-powerful, but also crazy-difficult to learn how to use it to its full potential.
right now, only a couple things I use it for but I plan to use it more:
-when I turn my car on and it connects to the BT, it will automatically turn on GPS, Pandora and turn up the media volume (in case it was turned down before).
-when I turn the car off, GPS turns off and Pandora closes
-When I'm at work, a different ringtone is enabled and all volumes is turned down.
-when I leave work, my normal ringtone is re-enabled and all volumes are back high.
I really love Tasker. My 2 main uses are
1. Between the hours of 10pm and 6am, Tasker mutes my phone. If a call comes, it sends a text message to caller saying that I'm down for the night. If it's an emergency, the caller will have other numbers they can call. If I get a text message, it sends a auto reply of some sort but if it deals with golf, it will turn up the volume and play a song from Caddie Shack. I don't want to miss out on an early tee time!
2. I use Macs and have a music service set up that plays music throughout the house using various Airport Expresses and speakers via Airfoil. Speakers that I'm always playing to are the outdoor speakers (I live out in the country so let it rip!). I use Tasker to control volume, change stations or music services (Slacker, Pandora, iTunes, etc) and other music/video related items. The main conduit being iChat on the Mac and Google Talk on my Android thus being within range of the wireless access point is not necessary. Using SL4A and Python on the Android with Tasker allows for some very powerful scripting to happen. This in turn gets sent to the Mac via Google Talk and converted to applescripts for controlling all the apps and devices. The best part is that it's very powerful but easy to program, inexpensive and most important. very very reliable! Try that with a Sonos or Logitech Squeezebox.
Ummm… maybe I should write up details about this setup...
how to change pandora station?
Sorry for the noob reply to such an old post, but have been looking all over these forums and elsewhere and just can't find the answer. How did you use tasker to change pandora stations? If not Pandora, any other Internet radio service would do. Eventual goal is to set up some presets in Car Home to select channels while driving in a single touch, and I can use whichever web service executes this function best.
Thanks!
TuneinRadioPro has a Car Mode Screen thst may meet your need, without tasker.

I am not sure what is going on, but for whatever reason, certain features of the stock alarm app simply don't work. e.g the option for setting side keys to snooze does absolutely nothing! This is probably my biggest issue as the other could be written off as me doing crazy things in my tired waking up state. It has simply never functioned as it should for me. From the out of the box telco rom, to unbranded stock rom and now KA04.
The UI of the app is quite nice when setting alarms, but just terrible for actual alarms. I seem to dismiss them easily as-well :|. Somehow my partner is getting to the home-screen and opening other apps when trying to snooze (no idea how she is pulling that off though). Sonic Jump's title screen at max volume at 3 am is quite horrendous to the ears
I've set every possible setting to avoid the alarm just dismissing itself yet it's still a pretty frequent occurance.
So either, does anyone know a fix and/or are you experiencing this? OR can you recommend a really solid 3rd party replacement? I've had good experience with AlarmDroid in the past but recently on my GS2 it was having some compatibility issues. With an alarm you don't really wanna risk that it might not go off though lol.
I tried the timer once to boil eggs, it shut down as soon as I locked the screen for some reason. As soon as I unlocked the screen the timer resumed from where I'd locked the screen.
Downloaded Timer instead, it's always served me well.
Gentle Alarm is my alarm clock. Been using it for 2+ years now. love it. Love to be woken slowly by nature sounds.

I think the alarm app is buggy, agree the side button does nothing (code probably ported from another Experia and not checked) pretty poor
and when the alarm actually activates and I miss the screen slider to turn it off - when I activate the home screen and pull down the notification bar to turn off the alarm - it's not always there, the only way I can turn off the alarm is to turn off the phone

Lol well at least I'm not crazy then. You can never be sure who's fault it is that early in the morning .
no problems with alarm here except the early morning syndrome hitting the slider
I have a problem with the alarm. Say I've set up an alarm that is supposed to repeat every day of the week.
But every time I dismiss it when it goes off, it disables itself, so I have to enable it again manually in order to be woken up the next day.
does it work the same way for everybody?

I was late for work the other day because I snoozed the alarm and it didn't come back, at all!... Not Sony's fault, I had set max. number of background processes to 1, and when the lockscreen process starts, that means the launcher becomes the 1 background activity, and the clock gets bumped from memory.
Oops.

I would prefer that my screen remain ON when I have my MotoX plugged in while driving. I use the Car Home Ultra app and the setting to keep screen on doesn't seem to work. I can't figure out which phone setting is cause the screen to turn off no matter what. Any ideas?
You can set the screen to stay on while charging in Developer options. It is a hidden menu in settings. To access it go to about phone and scroll down to the build number and click it repeatedly until you see a message you're now a developer. Then back out and Developer options should now be above about phone. Choose the stay awake option to keep the phone from sleeping while charging. Please note that the screen will stay awake while charging at home as well.

There is an added Dim Screen in Qualcomm settings that works in conjunction with the Dev option, which is also duplicated in QS.

The Option Given by User " Dark9781" is the Best.....
However, 2 more Options Here:
Download the Official Motorola App. SMART ACTIONS from Google Play. Or something Similar...
In the Car Dock Option / Charging Option you can set the Display Screen 'Off' to NEVER.
[ The Motorola Droid RAZR has an app developed by Motorola called Smartactions, which allows for automated tasks based on time, battery charge, and other phone sensors.]
Smart Actions is the same as 'Assist' Which is Provided by MotoX
2) In case You just Need A Screen On feature / Clock On / Photos/ While Charging.....
MOTO X Has a feature Called 'daydream'
Go to Settings > Display > Daydream...
When to Day Dream.... U can Set the Clock to stay on While Charging / Docked
just a warning from personal experience, AMOLED screens are fairly vulnerable to burn-in, letting the screen stay on for extended periods of time will cause it. had my gnex set up this way and it permanently has the tunein radio logo burned in, from leaving the screen on while driving.

The only problem with using Smart Actions is that it is not compatible with newer devices such as the X. It may be possible to sideload it, but it may not work properly.
Edit: Tasker may be an alternative to Smart Actions, but it is not free.

Hi,
Love my S21 Ultra, but I have one issue that im failing to solve.
I use Google Clock, and the alarm function works perfectly - never had it fail on me.
However the countdown function doesnt go off (ie, no sound or vibrate) if I leave it running in the background with the screen off.
If I turn the screen on after its supposed to have gone off, it then goes off, with a minus number of seconds on the screen.
Ive been through all the Samsung 'background app power saving' stuff, and made sure the Google Clock app is excluded (although if it was that id expect the alarm to fail too).
Handset is the 256Mb UK Three branded one, with latest official firmware, no rooting or anything like that.
Anyone come across this please?
thanks, George
How are the Do Not Dusturb and Sound settings during these issues?
Have you exempted Google clock to allow Notifications while sound is off or when DND is activated?
