Initial impressions and notations:
1) It works, finally. As a Mac user, I can say it's certainly nice to have SOMETHING that allows me to move files from my Mac to the tab without going through FTP or HTTP services.
2) With the above said, it's VERY limited. For example, it'll let you delete off the device, however copying to the device is a bit primitive, and it's very limited, like it'll only copy the movie files with the extensions it wants you to be able to copy.
3) Not sure why it doesn't put Movies in the Movies folder (it puts them in "Videos" folder), as with Audio\Songs too. So weird, like one team worked on the project that was completely apart from the rest of the Samsung Android world.
4) The overall functionality seems lagging... and it doesn't offer any sort integration with iTunes or Google Music or any other third party interface... so for music it's utterly worthless faces with competition from Doubletwist....
But overall it's a good very preliminary attempt for Mac integration by Samsung. It's a necessity for them since their #1 competitor which is iPad is very compatible with PC and iPad, in a very user friendly way. Thus far, this is the biggest issue with the Tab 10.1 for me... media sync, and media compatibility. Sammy really has to overcome these before it stands a chance to go mainstream against the iPad.

Did you download the one in the OP's link? I've downloaded their past versions and they haven't worked witth the Tab, only this newest beta release does. It works by just plugging into the galaxy tab, lol.

Nice! It's nothing amazing, but it's something I suppose. If nothing else you can now rename your device through your mac, hahaha. It's worthless for video x-fer to me because it doesn't even use the default movies folder lol.
But hopefully it's a sign that Sammy is getting on board with making syncing easier for us all.

Yeah of course you can move it but do you want to have to go in and move it every time you transfer to it? Easier just to use an FTP app and drop it directly where you want it the first time, hehe.
And I don't like that it only lets you transfer the most common of movies, not formats it doesn't like, haha

It's certainly not ideal to FTP into a device over WiFi (54mbps on average with a Wireless G router), when we have a USB cable mashed into the bottom of the phone (300-400mbps on average). It's convenient to manage syncing of a file here or there via wifi\ftp, but certainly not conducive to large file transfers.
Hopefully since Samsung Kies is available for Mac, a developer will seize the opportunity to adapt an app like Doubletwist to whatever technology Kies uses ... tho my guess is Sammy has a strong position against 3rd party use of it... ugh.
I'd happily pay $10 for a method of USB iTunes Music and VIDEO syncing. Would make my life a lot easier.
I haven't gotten my Tab yet, but will this be essential if I am to root via my Mac? (i.e., will adb connect or see the device on the Mac without the new Kies beta?)
I download and install that kies pkg, but when i connect the SGT only show a "samsung modem" and nothing happen, i disabled usb debug and the tablet say kies is connected but my mac dont do anything, any ideas?
update:
omg what a big jerk haha i didnt see the Kies app forgot this.

Has anyone purchased this new app yet? This is one of those barcode scanner apps that finds torrents. Its $2.99 right now. I wanna wait for some impressions before I make the jump. The concept sounds pretty cool though.
Just saw the youtube video for it, from the video it looks simpler than torrent droid. I don't know if it is though since I haven't tried either. I'm almost willing to take the plunge seeing as I've spent more on less
Personally I'm waiting on a free torrent app before I try torrents on my G1. BitTorrent has always sat in a gray area, but an app like this pretty much supports piracy since 9 out of 10 times you're not going to be able to preview a movie or album in any short amount of time while you're in the store using a p2p download. I don't see it staying up on the market for very long in a commercial form. Besides, you have a 24 hour period to request a refund so if you want to take the plunge and don't like it you can refund.
torrent droid apk
It looks like it has not been released yet however, if it has and I have made a horrible horrible mistake, can someone provide the .apk or a link for the DL? I'll provide the same if/when I get it.
Thank dudes

You don't seem to have read what the previous guy said: it doesn't DL to your phone. It sends the DL to your home PC.
Your point is the same, however, since it is farly exclusively for piracy.

They send you a eyepatch in the mail with every purchase! YAR! Dun pillage me b00ty!
That aside, I took the plunge and this app was definitly worth every penny.
There are plenty of legal uses of BitTorrent.
Case and point, I tried to download Ubuntu last night from one of the many mirrors listed on the Ubuntu website. I got average 150-200 KB/s download speeds. I went to isoHunt, picked the first result for the same release (perfectly legal) and averaged 700 KB/s. This was a perfectly legal use of BarTor.
The BarCode scanning is a perk, it is merely an additional way of entering the information you would have entered anyway. And it even provides a couple of search results for purchasable products offered online, often at much lower prices than the retail store you are in.
With the barcode scanning piece, I think it would be awesome if CDs were released with a QR Code linking to a sampler or something to that effect, so I could listen to a sampling of the artist and/or others. I know that I probably cannot change the way this type of content is delivered, but there are opportunities existing with this type of technology.
i bought it yesterday unfortunately i couldn't get around to messing around with it until today and after a few different ports being forwarded it finally stopped saying failed when i clicked on submit to client and now says success. just wish it had a gui so i could check on percentage complete, sorting by file type. thanks for the app nex, loving it so far. i also just noticed if i hit back to get out of the app then the next time i go in it force closes. its happened to me 3 times and I've deleted the .db file and then it goes back to normal, guess i just have to remember to not back out of the app and just hit home instead
I purchased the app and it works great. I think it is great to see more legal uses for torrents. I like being able to send torrents directly to my home PC when I'm on the go.
I'm not sure why mine isn't working. I am using uTorrent 1.6.1 and I entered my pc's ip address in the app with the ip address and the uTorrent port in the app. I scanned a dvd that I already owned and it's been stuck at Submitting To Client... for about 2 or 3 minutes.
Is there anything else that needs to be done?
Maybe it's my firewall... or router... or torrent app...
I thought this was supposed to be simple!

Make sure you portfowarded correctly, did you try looking up the webui on the utorrent forums? No I bet, Here check it out http://forum.utorrent.com/viewforum.php?id=20

Hope that helps you set it up, the thing that causes the most problems is the Portforwarding so make sure you do it correctly
I helped with the beta testing on this and love this app. I was the first one to purchase it and rate it (never said "first" though). As for the comment above about wishing it had a gui, it just sends the torrent file to your desktop torrent client, so your desktop is the part that needs the gui (and if this app works, you have a gui because that is a requirement). Read your torrent client (utorrent/vuze/ktorrent) help to find out how to use it. I have a shortcut on my desktop to my ktorrent webui so i can view/edit the torrent download settings.

The default behavior is to retry failed downloads on Application Entry and Exit. After receiving the fail message, when you exited BarTor, the download was retried. It will continue to do so until either the submission to the client is successful or you cancel the download (Menu --> Downloads --> Cancel).

It looks like you've got uTorrent encrypting things and/or the WebUI is not handling the GZipped files properly. Maybe a reinstall of uTorrent or at least the Web UI will help.

Okay. Thats a nice feature so I don't have to keep trying to send it. What about if its stuck on submitting to client? I've deleted the .db files and rebooted my phone a few times and tried it through wifi also, but I still get the submitting to client for awhile before i just cancel out of it. I have re-entered my information a couple of times to make sure i had it right. i went into it from a computer using http://yourip:port/gui/ just to make sure my utorrent wasnt down and it came up right away. Also i have tried it with different files and sites just to make sure it wasn't a particular torrent site that was having issues. I can't think of what else to try or what it could be. Any ideas?

Does OM ANTuner do anything that aList doesnt?
I'm using SwiFTP
Set my home router to always give me the same DHCP reservation.. I then use a good FTP client (On a Mac so I use Cyberduck)... basically just start SwiFTP's server and have the FTP client connect... brain dead simple.
Use it to transfer my iTunes music (non DRM tracks) from iTunes to a folder then drag to Cyberduck and other files.
There's a new app that showed up in the market over the past day or two search by date. It's an obvious name but seems to be read only.
Om sdcard wifi access is what it is called.

I think that you might be able to control your computer with VNC but I haven't tried.
In regards to downloading... sure. There are a lot of torrent apps that will connect to your bittorrent clients (such as utorrent or whatever). You just need to make sure everything is set up properly.
Yeah, he has utorrent on his computer currently. So can he see his desktop on his droid and open up programs on his computer?

If he's using a Windows Desktop, there is a RDP client on the App Market, just search for RDP. He will need to have his router setup to forward the proper ports (3389 TCP) to his computer for it to work, but I've used it to download things in a pinch, and copy it up to a webserver to download on my G1....
he's not gonna be doing anything ridiculous on it, remember there is a HUGE resolution difference b/t G1/DROID/Mobiles in general vs Computer Resolutions...
Okay, sounds very intriguing.
Let me word it differently though:
From his Droid, would he be able to see his desktop and scroll to uTorrent and tell it to download something, to his computer, not the droid.
You guys are awesome. I am floored that our G1 can do what you guys have told me. I obviously need to move beyond flashing roms and themes and learn what the guts can do.

Really what it sounds like you're asking, is he can remotely connect to his desktop, use it to search for and download the torrent file, and open it in the torrent client...? Complete remote control of his computer from off-site...? I don't know about you guys, but I have to search for and find a torrent file from a tracking site (demonoid, thepiratebay, etc.) and d/l that, then open it in my torrent client (utorrent).
I don't think this is capable yet... but I'm interested to hear more about this from those that know.
Remote Desktop Client works just like RDP and will allow you to log into your computer at home from your android phone using your windows login. Once logged in you have your trackball to move the mouse and can do anything you could do sitting in front of your computer. Its a $15 app which is really high for android OS but its been more than worth $15 all the times its saved my butt.
I also use it to monitor my utorrent download remotely.

If he has uTorrent then he can just set up the webui and forward his utorrent port on his/her router to the ip address of the computer. then download Transdroid (what I use because it has a decent widget) and set that up. TIP: use no-ip (or whatever) to set up a static ip address and change the name (like [email protected]) so you can just input that in the Default Server settings in the Transdroid preferences. It also uses isoHunt, Mininova, BT Junkie and even allows you to enter your own to search for new torrents. When you find one to download simply select it and it sends it to the computer. From there the uTorrent client will open the torrent that was sent and starts the download process. You can easily track the status of the active torrents on the client with it as well.
There are some out there that will even let you scan a barcode of a movie (useful if your in the video store) and it'll lookup the movie and send the torrent to your pc and it'll start downloading. If you have a decent enough internet connection you can go to the video store, scan a movie in the New Releases section, leave empty handed, get some Jack In The Box and by the time you get home the movie can already be on your computer ready to be viewed/burned. And it's not just for movies. It's for any other type of torrent.

I'm curious to try it. I can't see any reason why it wouldn't be compatible with the G Tablet, but then again I'm no expert. I think it is supposed to work with DropBox for swapping drawings back and forth, not sure what else will work with it.
Anyone else following this?
AutoDesk's page on the app.
Their blog post with teaser video.
Well this is just GREAT. The app won't install to the g-tablet !!
I installed it just fine on my phone. If I could find it, I'd try to copy it over to the g-tab... but I can't locate it on the phone, it doesn't show up in apps. Wonder where it could be ??
I will have to dig around and see if I can find it. Crappity.
I did take a page out of Roebeet's book ... I have tweeted AutCAD WS and asked if there is an alternate place to download the application. Hopefully I'll get results as good as he did!
Solved
Solved - in case anyone cares to know.
Here's how I went around the back way to install:
1. Install AutoCAD WS to an Android phone.
2. Use Titanium Backup to backup the application to the sdcard.
3. Connect phone to PC as a USB drive; copy three files to PC. The are a Properties file, a zipped .tar file and a zipped .apk file.
4. Unzip the two zipped files on the PC.
5. Connect the G-Tablet to the PC as a USB drive. Copy the properties file, the .tar file and the .apk files to /system/apps. Note that the latter two must be unzipped.
6. Use a file explorer to install AutoCAD WS on the G Tablet.
I tested it by opening the sample drawings and it was fine. It also recognizes drawings sent as email attachments and will open those.

Anyone else notice that "pinch to zoom" only works with your fingers horizontal, not vertical? Happens in most apps for me, including this.
I don't see the appeal of having a CAD application on a touch device like this. For viewing, sure, but for content creation it seems much more painful than a traditional CAD setup.

Open/view 3 sample drawings without issue.
BTW, running VeganV1B511 + Pershoot OC kernel.

I'm un-rooted and running the stock ROM, that's why.

Sure. It will be for viewing only, or perhaps to make notes in a drawing during a meeting. My intent in purchasing the tablet was to increase my workspace mobility; this will be very handy in meetings.

Bingo! Now I just need to convince my employer to let me bring my tablet into work (stupid security at defense contractors)
keep in mind, there are people who do autocad in the "field" .. For instance at my previous job, the field surveyors would create dxf's in real time with their data collectors. Being able to look at the file before leaving the site would help for those 5 shots they forgot to shoot.. Not to mention they could email the point file and dxf and proceed to the next job without visiting the office again..
I think those data collectors are meant to connect to PC's; not sure if they would connect to the G-Tab. It would be awesome if they did.

According to AutoDesk, they will be releasing a version of AutoCAD WS for Android on Wednesday.

Anybody actually been able to reach that site? I have been getting a "service temporarily unavailable" message since I saw this thread a few days ago.
UPDATE: I found the app in the marketplace at https://market.android.com/details?id=com.autodesk.autocadws&rdid=com.autodesk.autocadws&rdot=1 but of course, not for MY phone.
Can someone host it for sideloading?

I can only speak for the units i did IT support for, but they were the industry standard data collectors.
yes, they are designed to connect to pc's via db9 to usb, or bluetooth
however, the data collectors communicated with the total station and gps stations via bluetooth. It's not hard to do a bluetooth file transfer from the data collector to another device..
Hell, i even sent a file from a data collector through a nextel i530 (i believe that's the model #)
you don't know hell until you've operated a $4,000, 206 MHz, Windows CE 3.0, 4.1" 320x240 monochrome resistive screen with a kick butt 32mb of ram when it's 5 degrees outside ... On the plus side, it did have a built in screen heater so that the screen would work down to -22 deg(f) !
This app looks pretty useful as is but it doesn't look like it will allow the creation of new documents on the tablet, only viewing or editing of already created and uploaded ones. Or did I just not find it?
At any rate, even as things stand this will be a huge benefit to me in my quest to make my tablet a bigger value to me while I'm in the field on project start ups.
Now I just need to get off my butt and get started on that field/trip report app...

sorry for the stupid question - I'm kind of a newb at this:
How do I install it? I tried unzipping to my gtab and renaming the .apk.gz to .apk but that didn't seem to work...
Hi,
I have created a small html5 app that allows playing of local media on Google Chrome with playlist support. The Chrome tab can then be cast to Chromecast. This helps me play the huge collection of YouTube videos I have in my computer, on Chromecast. Just thought I'll put it on here for anybody that might find it useful.
Steps to use:
1. Open Google Chrome and go to sidscast . com
2. Browse for folder or files (Audio/Video) to add to playlist.
3. Play
4. Cast tab to Chromecast
Audio/Video Formats suppported: MP4, MP3, Wav, WebM and Ogg
Playlist support: Yes
Thanks!
Sid
Sounds promising! I'll try it when have a chance.

Works fine on Ubuntu....with Chrome
Been looking for something simple to allow playlists for chromecast....this works fine. Thanks
Works perfectly w/ windows 8.1 in chrome. This solved a very irritating limitation of existing casting software.
Thank you

You sir, deserve more recognition. This is beautiful. Thank you.
thanks given
Thanks so much for this, works really great for streaming my local MP3 files.
Question, would it be possible in a future update to support:
1) displaying embedded album art from the streaming song
-or-
2) specifying a directory of images that can be cast to display while the mp3 is streaming.
Would be great if it can cast photos.
Amazing, the first thing I tried worked. But I'm curious why this can't be run locally, couldn't you make a browser app? They have them, but none work. Not even Videostream (They say it's my network when I have no AV, no firewall, the ports forwarded in my router, and friends who can't get it to work more often than whenever the hell it wants).
You don't mention anywhere, so I'm curious just what info gets passed back and forth between me and your server while I'm using this.

Hey man, Videostream guy here. Is it just never playing the video?
The difference is how this uses the Cast Extensions tab casting method (WebRTC) instead. All you need to do, to do the same thing without this app, is drag and drop the video in to Chrome.
Our app needs TCP port access to your computer, in order to send the raw video data to your Chromecast.
Now, there's no reason why you should have been left hanging like this. If you like you can forward me your emails and I can look into why our support f'd up so hard. This is an easy fix. I can also do a remote desktop with you whenever you like and we can get this solved, asap.

Hey, thanks for the reply.
I've been getting replies, for sure (The replies come from freshdesk, signed Rahul Kayaith), but pretty much been given the idea that it's my problem, when I can reset literally every device on my network and it still not work (I even went so far as to open the ports in my router since he made it seem like the traffic needs to pass between their servers and my computer). I'm using literally no antivirus or firewall, just Windows Defender, I've added Chrome as an exception to Defender's scans, and my network is private/home. The app hasn't worked for me at all for a couple weeks now, when previously it worked intermittently. The port fix tool has never worked, not once since I got the Chromecast. (Before it quit working altogether, it would work seemingly whenever it felt like it. Nothing that I did on purpose seemed to work)
My friend has 3 Chromecasts, uses antivirus and spyware software, a different router/modem, and a different computer. The only thing we have in common is Windows 8.1, Chrome, the Videostream app. He says it also works only intermittently. I just don't see that the problem is on either his network or mine!
I did figure out that I could "save" the SidsCast page locally and run it and it works, so I don't need to worry about what's being sent to his server, and it's working with most types of video, but not all, so I have to be careful what I "acquire," but still more reliable than Videostream has been!

(I run Windows 8.1 too)
Yeah those are the generic fixes we give to people, Rahul is our local support guy we have working with us as an intern . Your router really shouldn't have anything to do with this.
What you could do is check (Control Panel\System and Security\Windows Firewall\Customize Settings) , or in your "Windows Firewall" settings go to "Turn Windows Firewall on or off" on the left, and make sure "block all incoming connections" is NOT checked on Public or Private.

My firewall is set to "off." I never use it, nor any third party firewall or AV. I've run through all of this with Rahul, at least since some time in March. And opening the ports in my router was just, let's say, a last-ditch effort to figure out the problem, since nothing else has worked.

Well, if you like we can try to do an ole Remote Desktop with TeamViewer if you like? If you're into it I can do it whenever. It's normally easy to diagnose as the developer. My email is up there ^--

Oh joy! I didn't think people were using it and finding it useful! Well, although I know this is a very late reply, but I'll answer anyway. There is no server. It's all client side. The only thing that it needs a connection to the internet for, is the ads at the side. So you can very well just have it work without an internet connection after the initial load. There's no data collection or anything of that sort.
