Ok, I have a Captivate currently running Fasty 1.5
I flashed from a stock ROM after doing a master clear as I always do, and haven't made any customizations to any of the ROMs I've run.
I've tried every Netflix app and pretty much every ROM that promises working Netflix, but nothing seems to work.
Am I missing something?
Thanks in advance.

Neither did I, but according to the Fasty post, it works on this one. But it really doesn't as far as I can tell.
I've tried several GB ROMs too, but it didn't work on them either.
Am I going to have to wait 42 years for Netflix and Samsung or ATT to work out some sort of deal?

Couldn't get it to work on Fatsy either (tried every variation of the netflix APK out there).
Had previously had it working on a GB rom (Mosaic). Just flashed to DG's Cognition GB and it works like a charm.
It's worked on CM7 and Continuum for me with no problems. Big fan of the app when you get it working
It works on every GB ROM I have flashed. Be sure to use the "netflix-new-mod2.apk" in this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1076150
Just re-flashed Continuum, going to give it another try.
EDIT:
IT WORKS!
I don't know what I did different this time, but I'm so super stoked that I'm probably going to die.
Thanks to you all for your help!!
Netflix works perfectly on the Speed and Looks 2.3.3 rom I'm using. Just make sure you are on wifi, or else your phone bill with hate you.
Has anyone gotten Netflix to work on a 2.2 based ROM?
Confirmed working: Seredipity 7 build 2 GB 2.3.3
Next time, do a search before starting a new thread. There must be a half dozen or more existing Netflix threads in here. Also, this should have been in Themes & Apps, not Q&A.

Hey everyone. I'm posting here because I have a friend with a Captivate and I'm trying to get him to root his phone.
I sent him the link to the 1 click root but I don't know what rom to have him flash. I have an EVO and in the EVO forums we have a sticky with all the custom roms listed so it's easy to see what's there. Is there anything like that for you guys?
He's basically looking for a stable 2.2 rom.

The Captivate DEV scene isn't too large right now, (most of them are in the Vibrant section) We have few custom roms, but the ones you can find, along with mods can be found in the Development section of Captivate.

This is very true. Most went to vibrant because they were ex-G1 users. However the good news is the most of the coding will be the same so they are relatively easy to port. I have a feeling the captivate will not be getting as much dev action, and most people are switching from windows mobile or iPhone and have no android dev experience. But it will eventually speed up
Don't have him flash a custom ROM just to flash a custom ROM. Right now there are a limited number of ROMs, and he can read up on them in the dev to see if there is anything changes in the newer firmwares that would make it worth his time to flash. AFAIK, there are no fully functional, stable 2.2 ROMs (although the leaked build for the i9000/international version does mostly work, I think). There are also a few leaked updates to the 2.1 firmware.

Yea, that's why I am asking if there are any stable 2.2 roms yet. But as I gather there aren't. I'll just tell him to keep his eyes open here.
I've been using Cognition 2.2b6 for about 4 months now with no problems. Seems to be the most stable rom out there for the captivate.
I've been using Cognition 2.3b3 for several weeks and it's working great, the only issue for me is the android email process crashes on startup, I use the gmail app anyway, so its a non issue for me... It took 3 or 4 days to get the correct order of opperations, it seems not everything you find on XDA works for every Captivate, I guess AT&T keeps disabling settings and crapware crippling the phone... But the order that worked for me was:
STOCK AT&T 2.2 FROYO:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=797282
ROOT:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
JI6 KERNEL:
I did not root with the link in this post (was already rooted when I found it)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=804226
COGNITION:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=786532
SIDELOAD:
Option two worked for me, option one did not.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=738376
Now that I've done all this I could NEVER go back to stock, it's like having a completely different phone... Unbelievable upgrade. F-U AT&T.
Hands down Cognition to start. When he's ready to move on Cognadian Bacon!
Swyping...please read slowly!

I was gonna say perseption. Its really the most captivate friendly of the ports for other galaxy s phones. You get the reorient kernel with overclock undervoult, universal lagfix, clockwork mod instead of 2e recovery, and you get working bluetooth audio, normal batery life, multiple fonts, password/pin number/pattern security, other things i forgot.
Axura looks amazing but noone will answer my questios about bugs. And there is no known issues listing.

For all who are flashing, often... hee
Since the whole swype beta upgrade blah blah... sometimes I'll flash a ROM that has the updated version, sometimes they don't include the updated version, sometimes they do and they don't work (wrong handset or something like that) and I find myself flashing BACK to ROM's that had the working update.
What about on the older ROM's that I find myself missing??? Is there a trick other than deleting swype and swypelib and then copying in a newer version of both???
It's making me crazy, and yet I'm unwilling to live without swype!!! It took me a long time to like it, but once I did, I never went back!!
Thanks!!
FJ
In Extremekilla09's second post in the Firefly rom thread he posted a swype fix for firefly only. It is cwm flashable and I have used it on my favorite swype keyboard on at least 4 different roms including phoenix js7, dragon, supernova, and fusion. Worked every time. Give it a try and if it works hit extremekilla09's thanks button.

I have many lag issues, wifi wont always auto connect and still unsure of the gps. I come from the Acer Liquid camp over at android.modaco. I have flashed all sorts of roms, none ever worked perfectly. Now that being said my stock Cappy is buggy so I do understand.
So my question is, are the Roms that much better than stock and will I see some of my issues resolved or will I just have new issues?
This community seems very knowledgeable. So I am sure I will get many great answers. Is there anyone who regrets flashing a rom? If so why?(forgot to make backup, some app does not work properly, bricked your phone...etc) I know these people will not be the norm but I would just like any feedback before I jump in.
Thanks
I will never go back to stock again. plain and simple. Custom ROMS are so much more efficient than stock. Faster, use less battery, more features... using the phone the way it was intended. Once you do it, you will neer look back.
The Dev community for the Captivate is awesome. I have seen almost nothing but fixed issues when flashing to a custom ROM. I've got the I897 and the custom ROMs have increased battery life, reduced crashes, fixed gps (although this seems to be hit or miss among users as to how effective the fix is), better/ quicker wifi connections. The interface seems much smother on many ROMs too. All this and more features. I'm sold. A word of caution though. The more mature ROMs will have fewer problems. Check out the last few pages of the DEV threads for anouncements of fixes. When I've seen these in the threads, the ROMs seem to work much better than the new releases. Pretty much read the threads and see if they've got the bugs worked out yet, Happy Flashing.
Cheers

Start with cognition, its the perfect rom to pop your cherry. Start with 4.5.3 (Froyo), its the closest to stock and will be quite familiar. From there you can try some other custom themed roms. The Froyo roms are easiest to install, just place that update.zip file on your sd card along with the rom zip file, then enter recovery and flash away. Good luck
For Roms it you who decide which you liked the most, there is nothing like the best. For One A will the best but fot other A will be the worst. There are many good roms here try and decide yourself

That's the fun part, flashing then to find out which one you like the most.
I would say start with a froyo rom. They are very easy, straightforward to flash. After you are comfortable with those, move up to GB. I would also recommend buying Titanium Backup. It makes setting your phone up after a flash alot easier.

If u wanna stay with stock 2.2, download OCLF from the market and that should fix your lag issues. Me...personally, I rather flash a 2.3 rom. I'm usin Dlev's and oh boy, my phone is a BEAST This is "MY" opinion. Good luck!!!
Haven't pulled the trigger yet..... MIUI look s nice. Still must do more research. Thanks for the info. Tried oclf.... Made quadrant better but no actual speed fix
Fired up a few roms....they are wicked fast! Cool as ice..lol. They all had more bugs than stock. Lucky there is a post to go back to rogers 22. They are fun and all but i need fully working rom. i cannot wait until there is a bug free gingerbread rom. I must note i only tried gingerbread. I agree with Toad, Cognition 4.5.3 is a great starting point for flashing. Very simple to flash, very similar to stock's GUI, one of the most stable (if not the most stable) ROMs I've ever tried, and has many many good features and enhancements.
Here's the link to the Thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=964583
And yes, Gingerbread ROMs are abit too recent still, therefore you are likely to encounter bugs (and they are STILL a lot better than Stock), so I recommend you poke into those later.
I tried MIUI and it is a very nice and full-featured ROM, so I'm pretty sure you'll like it. Cheers and have fun!
I know how to backup with titanium...i,m so smrt. i have backed up flashed roms with nandroid on my acer liquid e. My only question...part 2.... if you will, is how to back up your stock out of the box rom? If you back it up, re install it can you update it?...i.e. if gingi ever gets released.

Find the odin one click thread, do that, you'll be back to 2.1, then find a thread explaining how to root, then follow the directions on how to flash gb. I have been off the captivate for a while now, so there are much easier ways to get to gingerbread than when I was still on it. However, if you backup your apps with titanium backup, you should be able to do the following: once you install your new rom, run the "restore missing apps" function, and it should keep your progress in games without messing up your rom. The problems people run into us when they run the "restore all apps" process, which restores system apps and screws things up. If you only restore missing apps, you'll be fine
The edit is because I'm drunk right now. If you backup your apps on your current rooted setup with titanium backup, you should be able to just restore missing apps with titanium backup once you flash the new rom without any troubles and have your saved game data.

Read, read, read. And read some more.
You will need to upgrade your bootloaders, and upgrade your ROM/Radio/Kernel.
This all carries with it a fair bit of risk. I would suggest you understand how to recover from a "soft brick" before attempting to re-flash or upgrade anything.
Also: This is in the wrong section, and if I'm honest, this isn't much of a first post if you're new to XDA.
THANX everyone. esp. *toy028*
read till my eyes bled... and
1-superoneclick to root
2-odin 1.7 to flash latest speedmod kernel
3-after headaches got cm7 rom to flash and now i'm stuck with it as it puts it's own kernel(clockworkmod4+) on the phone and it will not let me flash anymore update.zips
dont understand the edify request it gives. cant find an edify option in the rom. afraid to reroot, reflash speedmod and try again because it(the new kernel) doesnt seem to be compatible or want to let me upgrade LOL. so i am trying to get cm7 to please me.
wish there was a simplystunning rom. tried andromeda3 and it wouldnt flash for me. cm7 is very lacking. got gapps but it's still VERY lacking. quadrant got slower on video but faster on cpu??? wierd. neocore got slower too. only went from 55.7 to 52.3 but still. only one keyboard on cm7. no super customization like i"m used to with ss. i really miss forcing my browser to pc mode for streaming southpark etc. debug option doesnt have a desktop selection bummed but gonna try and deal with it.
thanx again
Andromeda3 wouldn't flash because of the version of cwm you are on. Andromeda3 is 2.2 and requires an older version of cwm

I'll second the call for Apex. I've tried several of the available Gingerbread ROMs, but always ended up going back to Apex. Installed the recent 9.2 update and won't be looking back.

Guys/Gals! be careful when recommending JF6 Odin1 Click, he stated his release number on his phone being 1108, and if I'm not mistaken, he will brick his device based on that build number. OP do a search for Odin 1 click and make sure you can use the JF6 version
thanx for the warning. i was actually aware of such a conundrum being possible and thought i would try it anyways. there seems to be a lot of mis-information or better yet only partial instruction from those who assume eveyone knows all of the things to do before the instructions they DO give. at any rate, one click worked for root. everything is groovy BUT i still cant use any other rom but MIUI's latest. which is sooooo lacking it makes me sick and i go back to cm7 everytime. oh well. at least i can get 2370 on quadrant with cm7 and 57.7 on neocore instead of 1300 and 23.5 respectively. my moto droid one does 1700 and 23.7 so i figured the captivate would smoke it. now it finally does. it matters to me when using google earth and maps etc. those apps suck up the cpu/gpu ram and anything else they can. so i guess i'm happy with cm7.

ok, so with that said, you are looking for a CellBroadcastReciever.apk that is designed for GB (2.3-2.3.7), not for Froyo, ICS, JB, or KK (even if KK isn't available for our device just yet)

Yes one that works on the Atrix 4G because the Nexus ones are for a GB device if I am reading correctly. I've tried just flashing those (Stupid I know) and no result. I've tried swip-swapping some stuff around and Iv'e come to the conclusion I cannot do this myself with just the froyo rom, the apks and nottach to mess with.
Both of those versions (this one and this one) work on JB and above only (one is for 4.1, the other is for 4.2).
As you noticed yourself, Kyler's stock Froyo does not contain it, and I was unable to find a version that works on Froyo. Where did you find one for Froyo?

It was in Kyler's Froyo settings, The APK is not there but the item is in the settings and fully customizable.
Well I'm trying out CM 10.2 right now but having a flashable version could work well if I switch back.
I examined Kyler's Froyo. Sadly it seems this functionality has been hardcoded into Settings.apk and BlurPhone.apk.
Ahhh, it seemed like that when I tore it apart.
I just examined the latest AT&T firmware (2.3.6) and I found the same thing therein. That means the same functionality should exist in the latest official GB as well?
I can't test this myself, I'm running a custom ROM and I don't really want to reflash now, plus to my knowledge none of the networks here offer cell broadcast.
