[Q] Galaxy Tab Wifi P1010 is stuck in a loop... - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys
Got a problem here regarding my GT-P1010
Basicaully I've followed a guide to install Froyo using Odin onto my Tab. The problem is the Tab now starts, goes to the home screen and after a few seconds automatically restarts. This cycle will keep on going unless I hold the power button and turn off the device.
I used a p1010 firmware from samfirmwares which I thought would be compatible.
Anyone else had a problem similar to mine and found a solution?
I've got access to recovery so I can wipe and install a zip, however I can't find a ROM in .zip format anywhere. Development seems to be concentrated alot towards the GSM or CDMA versions

ok you have gone into bootloop there cause it was the wrong version, (don't think there is any others that can bar stock. You need to get stock back onto your device.
Did you take a copy of it before you flashed?

check here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133590
and follow the steps and flash safe , Do not flash any roms\kernels that not made to your tab . or may aliens from the space will eat your nuts

K0sh there is none for the p1010 we can root and overclock install themes and such waiting for spacemoose to save us.
But its an excellent thread so ya should check it out just to reaffirm

i give him the guide to download the rom that made for his tab . and flash it . Spacemoose1 is saving us all

Thanks for the help guys. I've tried using Odin again with the latest firmware, but for the wifi version dont you have to select CSC as well in Odin?
I tried with just PIT and PDA files selected and with re-partition on but I still have the same problem.
Device starts up, goes to home menu and I get process crash report and then the device restarts itself

Can you get to download mode? if you can and there should be no reason try flashing from there the file should be place but clear cache prior to the flash.
Btw froyo is what we are on so why would you be trying to flash this is the stock?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App

Hi Alex
Yes I can access Download mode.
I'll clear the cache in recovery before I go to download mode.
Yes I am trying to flash stock firmwar, because the tab just keeps restarting itself when it boots to the main menu. I get an error message that android.media.process has crashed and then the loop starts all over again

Is this your backup stock?
if so worried that you changed the baseband.. Should have my tab back in the morning to help but and am not sure if the but did you download the correct region from Sam cause this sounds like either the bootloader got screwed.. Would clear everything again flash if you follow the instructions on the relevant link again that k0sh gave.. And on final boot this may take a while go leave the device let it finish then come back hopefully it will have finished then if that works great. If not then would imagine its back to sammy cause you have done everything right. Nor unleash come one else has any other ideas... Will ask just incase

What does android.media.process control? Can you install titanium and freeze that process?

Hi again Alex
The firmware I am trying to flash is the stock European one from samfirmwares. i dont have a backup so im just trying to use what i can access online. i've tried multiple versions of Odin from 1.3 to 1.85. ive left it to download the rom, it installs itself succesfully, does a few things in recovery mode, starts, goes into the home screen but i still get the same loop sequence. if you could somehow give me a backup from your Tab (if its a european one) then that would be greatly appreciated.
@ranger: Im not sure what the process controls to be honest and i cant even use the tab before it restarts itself again.
Also I've seen this post by from another thread

You can pm (personal message) members directly for things like files, because most people can't post links or host files.
Just tap the member's icon on the left and choose "send a pm". Be sure to give them your email address.

Problem installing kernel - need help!

Hi there.
New to the forum and rooting. I have a Samsung Galaxy S Captivate and also have rooted using z4 root. I tried installing the kernel SuperFast v1.1.23 and now have a big problem. I used Rom Manager to "install ROM using SD" and selected the kernel zip file that I saved onto the external SD card. It appeared to install properly and then started to boot...however it's just stuck there looping between the words "I896" and "SAMSUNG". I got to the Android system recovery <2e> manual screen and "reboot system now" just takes me back to the rotating text.
when i tried "apply sdcard:update.zip", i get a "E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted." but this option will no longer work anyways because my batter is low.

you need ODIN and to get your phone in download mode....
i dont even know what SuperFast v...... is.
its not a kernel provided here on the captivate forums...so, dont know what to tell you. load up ODIN, put your phone in download mode and flash back the proper kernel
Please take this to the right forum...this is development!

Perhaps that is your problem, you installed an htc kernel on a samsung phone...
Use this to get back to stock and stay away from the htc section.
And don't post in the dev section either, its for developers only.

to the OP, if you really did try flashing an HTC kernel on your samsung, please do us all a favor:
return your phone and get yourself an iphail.
Thanks for the input everyone. And I will make sure to post in the correct section next time!

Actually no. It was a kernel for the Samsung Galaxy Fascinate. I accidentally installed it on my Captivate. If you really don't have any useful suggestions, you should go troll other posts instead. thanks.

also, i attempted to help you out already and DID NOT tell you you were posting in the wrong location....
i am still trying to fathom why you would attempt to load a kernel like that on your phone. i was responding to someone else who said that the kernel was an HTC kernel....
but on the other hand, congratulations on almost ruining your phone!
Ok...so I was able to restore my Rogers Samsung Captivate (I896) back to its original Rogers settings.
Phone turns on and seems to be working properly.
I reinstalled the Samsung mobile drivers from and used Heimdall to restore my phone using the downloaded file "I896UXJI2-homebinary".
So now I noticed 2 issues:
1. The 3G isn't registering/working.
2. Noticed my internaly SD memory has dropped significantly. Was originally at about 16GB, but now down to 1.5GB.
Any suggestions??
just following up. any suggestions on my issues in the post above?

[Q] Possibly bricked internal storage I9000

Hi guys,
I tried to root my Galaxy S with Odin using a tutorial from techlivez (can not post link since this is my first post here PM me for link).
I followed all the steps as described but after succeeding the phone got stuck in a reboot loop, only showing the samsung i9000 screen then going blank for a sec before returning to the I9000 screen. I tried to fix this by using other packages (wich ones exactly I can't remember since I tried so many). I now reached the point where the phone does boot up to the glowing S screen, after that the screen goes blank with the two buttons glowing.
This night I was looking for a fix for that just to stumbled upon a tutorial on cyanogenmod forums. (again PM me for link) The solution is pushing a couple of files to /sbin/. I tried following the steps described in the tutorial but when I try to push files to the phone (connected in recovery) I get this message: C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools>adb push e2fsck /sbin Failed to copy 'e2fsck' to 'sbin/e2fsck' : Permission denied. I get this message for each of the 6 files I am supposed to copy. How do I get around this?
I really want to fix this phone. To be honest it is not even mine, I was rooting it on request of a friend of mine and since I sucessfully rooted my HTC desire and have been running nightlies for about half a year now I thought it should be oke.
Please help, any ideas thoughts or tips are welcome.
Thanks in advance!
Kind regards,
L. Visser.
P.S. Not being able to post links does not really help me, so hereby a small complaint.

[Q] Can't update Sprint Tab (SPH-P100)

I have a refurbed Sprint Galaxy Tab SPH-P100 that I bought off Woot. It's off contract and I use it as a wifi-only device.
Firmware 2.2
Build SPH-P100.DJ14
From my understanding there have been a number of updates to this device from DJ14 to DJ30, EA24, EB28, and finally the Gingerbread.EF17
I've looked around and it seems most people receive the updates OTA via 3G, but some also got it over wifi. All have cited saying they've received notifications about the update, but my Tab hasn't received anything, so I can't update. When I manually click on update firmware, it'll run for a few seconds and give me an unknown error. And when I click on Update Android it'll say "your system is currently up to date."
If somebody knows how to solve this or maybe direct me in the right direction that'd be greatly appreciated!

Download that and rename it update.zip and put it on the root of your SD card, then boot into recovery using volume up and power I believe and choose apply update.zip
If that doesn't work let me know and I'll give you the Odin download. If you want rooted gingegread let me know before you do any of this since you will have to re-download the rooted gingerbread instead.

First of all, thanks for choosing to help me Jazz.
Okay, so I tried what you suggested and it began to show the unpacking animation but ultimately ended up giving me a / ! \ sign.
What I'm wondering could be the problem is...do I have to do stepwise updates starting from DJ14 > DJ30 > EA24 > EB28 > EF17?
Or is it okay to apply the EB28 update while I'm still on DJ14?
But that's just a guess. Anyway it's stuck on that exclamation point and doesn't seem to be proceeding. What should I do? Thanks!

Ok ya that's what it is but if your there you can reboot nothing installed so you should be fine. But you might have to update using Odin but this will factory reset your tablet because I can't find a link to update you to every firmware using recovery.

Okay. Thanks for the help. I'll try the Odin method. Is there anything I should know about Odin or is it pretty straightforward? I'd be okay with a factory reset.
I've been digging around a bit to see if there was a method already and Rodderik here provided a method but it looks like I still have to be on the latest EF17 before I make an attempt. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1275031

Download and unzip that Just make sure you have your correct drivers installed.open the Odin that's in that zip, Boot into download mode and plug it in to the computer. Make sure you see a yellow com box pop up in Odin it means it detected a device. Click pit and search the pit file you just extracted and then click PDA and select that EF17 firmware and just hit start

So fast forward four years and here I am with this same question. I haven't the slightest idea how many updates have rolled out since then! I'd like to update my sph-p100 to be more current and while I'm computer savvy, I'm not "modification/programming savvy"
I also have a nook color and have been tossing around the idea of turning it into an android. I'm confused on some of the steps. Like 2-10 lol! Is there a link to a KitKat image (I think that's what it's called?) that I could save to that little chip and then pop into the nook, like how you suggested him to do to update his? I would appreciate it!!!
By the way, I'm a newbie on here, and you were my first. My first post that is. Lol, little humor for your Monday

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S GT-i9000 freezes after around 30 seconds from reboot.

Hello everyone, thanks for taking your time and reading this.
I've owned a Samsung Galaxy S GT-i9000 for about two years now. This phone is not my primary phone, as I just use it as a secondary phone for different apps/backup, most of the times the phone is turned off.
But a few days ago, I turned the phone on, and once the homescreen had loaded, around 20-30 seconds later, the phone will freeze, and there's nothing else you can do other than take the battery out to turn it off.
A few details about the phone: the phone has never been flashed, and the OS has never been touched. It's basically at stock, but the only thing I remember is updating the official firmware through the Samsung link in the settings. The phone has never been modded, and that's what bugs me the most. (I've never had experience with 'modding' phones with custom ROMS and such)
So, after sitting at home all day looking for a fix, I couldn't find anyone else in my situation. There are a few similar situations, but I am yet to find something that replicates my problem exactly.
I've also tried rebooting the phone in many different ways, for example, taking out the memory card, then taking out the sim card, then taking them both out completely.
That's when I found a link which gave me information on how to factory reset the device. Since nothing else was working, I decided to go for it.
I held the VOLUME UP button + the HOME button, and hit the power button and got the menu up.
The menu works fine, I was flicking through the options for 10 whole minutes just to check if it freezes or not, and it works perfectly fine.
So then I factory reset the phone, wiped the system cache, and I also formatted the internal SD card.
Still, the problem persists. This time, the phone will reboot for a little while longer, since I expect the system files are getting set up, then it asks for the language, and before I can hit English, it freezes, and the screen stays like that until the battery is dead. All the hardware buttons don't do anything, it's basically fully dead with the screen still on the OS menu.
I was wondering if anyone knows what I should do?
I can provide more information if needed, and I can even upload a video to YouTube if you want a better aspect of the problem.
Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Ah, sorry, got the title completely messed up there.
Yes it's the GT-i9000 and I think it had Froyo 2.2.1, forgot to include that in the main text.
Could try Rooting the phone and wiping all options in Recovery and Reboot
or
Could be that something maybe corrupted which is halting the system
Upload a video so that we can offer better advice
Which Rom / Firmware are you using?
Last option.
Would Recommend Downloading Rom (whichever you choose) and go from there....
Major UPDATE:
Okay, so after sticking at it the whole day and trying to get a better understanding of this situation, I've managed to work around the problem slightly. It's not fixed yet, though.
So after the screen had frozen for the (insert number here)th time, the battery was starting to go empty, so I stuck it on charge, but I forgot that I had left the frozen screen on (currently frozen on the 'Language Select' set up menu).
After about 20 minutes, the phone vibrated and a little message popped up, and it said that 'the process Soundhound.com.xxx.xxx was force closed', or something along the lines. I can't remember fully because it popped up for only around 4 seconds and disappeared.
As soon as I saw that, I quickly went to the application settings and deleted all of the soundhound cache/data and then removed the app completely. After that I thought it was fixed for sure, so I was messing around with the phone and using different apps to see if it freezes again, and it didn't.
But I had to restart the phone to see if the freeze issues happened again, and yep, it was there again, this time the same as the first issue, where it used to freeze up in the home screen. AND, I let it sit on the frozen screen for 15 minutes and it was that SAME soundhound app that got force closed, so once it got out of the frozen state, I quickly went to the application settings and the app was still there, it was like I didn't even delete it?
This leads to my new problem, the so called 'hard factory wipe/reset' doesn't actually reset EVERYTHING. As seen in my other post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2305825
Now I'm completely confused as to what I should do.
I've pretty much tried everything, and i'm sure a FULL hard reset where EVERYTHING gets wiped out might just fix it? The thing is though, I don't know how? I've been trying to fix this phone for about 7 hours straight now.
My opinion Flash a Stock Rom or what ever you wish and then Root it...
If selling it just dont bother with Rooting it.
As you say you have been at it for Several hours and flashing takes less than an hour even for a newbie if following the procedure correctly
As going by what you say it seems that files are messed up on the phone and better to start fresh

Is there a legit way to flash it, maybe through Samsungs website? I don't want to mess around with custom files, as I would like to keep everything clean.
Oh, and also, I just went through the media files and found some of my old pictures too. So for some reason, the 'format internal SD' option in the recovery menu isn't working.
If I flash it, will I have to flash it to Froyo 2.2.1 which it is currently in right now?
Here's information I found on the 'About phone' menu:
Kernel version:
2.6.32.9
[email protected] # 1
Build number:
FROYO.XXJPY
Baseband version:
i9000XXJPY
Thanks for all the help so far.

Thanks.
Briefly read your guide, and it's all mind boggling to a newbie like me :silly: lol
I might just have to flash it, because this problem is getting a little bit annoying now.
Which parts of your guide should I follow exactly? And shouldn't I be sticking Froyo 2.2.1 back in? Won't a newer firmware (such as the 2.3.6) make the phone slower/drain more battery than usual?
Oh and one last thing, what's the difference between rooting and flashing a phone? Cheers.
Rooting briefly means :
Giving yourself root access to system files and the ability to change things that normally are marked read only
This allows you to change all kinds of things that normally you wouldn't be able to
Flashing : Erm.. Flashing a new Rom on your Phone or the process of over-writing your internal memory
2.3.6 will be ok for you if you wish to stay just Stock on your phone.
Plus the fact if you wish to move to another Rom later on its just a matter of Rooting the Phone and installing the Custom Rom
Just follow guide from the : HOW TO GUIDE : TUTORIAL TO FLASH 2.3.6 JVU + ROOT BEFORE INSTALLING CUSTOM ROM
and you will be ok.

So the 2.3.6 Firmware you provide, is that known a 'custom firmware'?
I've been searching for YouTube videos with people explaining how to flash, but all the videos sound like they're speaking about some rocket science sh** lol
Now I'm super confused, some guy on YouTube is flashing to 2.3.6 JVT while you're doing JVU, I don't even know what that means haha
I just don't want to brick the phone and make it completely dead, that's why I'm just making sure I understand the basics before I go ahead with it, sorry if I'm starting to sound annoying lol
You wont brick it if you follow it correctly...
2.3.6 JVU is the basis for all custom roms been flashed unless stated otherwise by Rom Developers.
As its basically a stock 2.3.6 then when you want to flash another Rom its just a matter of Rooting the 2.3.6

Well, I'm in the process of downloading your files, THANKS for ALL the help you've given so far, sir!
I'll flash once all the files are downloaded. By the way, does 2.3.6 have Google Play store, and not the old Andropid Market?
I hope I can get this done before I head off to sleep in a few hours, been a very long day haha
I'll let you know of the results, cheers and have a good day sir.
No problem hope it all works out for you :good:

Ah, okay.

Back again, haha.
I was just wondering, did you say I should root or not? As rooting it seems like a bit of a hassle? Plus, it says that I should install a custom rom zip file if I decide to root it, but I don't have one? I am using your 2.3.6 which was in your Odin Files download link, right?
So if I root, what do I do exactly?

Okay, so I've rooted it also now, and unplugged the USB.
Now it's restarted, and the language set-up page is there, and guess what? .. It froze again :|
Exactly the same way before I flashed it :crying: :crying: lol
I actually feel like crying right now haha, I think the phone may be completely dead? Something is seriously corrupt with it I'm guessing?
I've never dropped it, or accidentally dropped liquid on it or anything like that.
I have absolutely no idea what to do now. Sigh.
Thanks for your help either way though.

[Q] HELP! noob stuck on samsung load screen

Hi, I was deleting some apps etc with my newfound ROOT power and then my phone went kaput and showed the Samsung loading screen (I'm using a i8190N mini) and now only loads to that samsung screen. I did a wipe of data and cache in recovery and it did start going through the setup process again, but failed halfway thru.... so im guessing I deleted the part that kicks that actually starts the damn thing. AM I RIGHT to think that this could save me...
Download XXAMD3 ROM onto SD card and then flash it in recovery? or through Odin? will this take care of the samsung deleting issue I've done?
Or else finding the stock ROM and flashing it through odin? Is that all or would I need to partition the drive too. Im not good with any of this stuff so any help would be great! chur
