[sprint] CWM backup of EB28 - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, hi guys,
I was doing an update for a friends sprint galaxy tab today, he had the eb28 ota installed on it, so i did a cwm backup after i had rooted and installed the vzw cwm zimage, i gabbed the .img files and zipped them up, and using dsixda's android kitchen to extract everything, de-odex'd, zipaligned apk's and rebuilt a cwm flashable zip.
since i havent seen this here i thought id post it for anyone to use, especially since it seems work on the sprint galaxy tab is stagnant..
I hope its useful..
(i havent flashed it, but it should work fine, afaik)

yeah no problem, im just hoping that maybe some cooks in this forum can use this, i hate to see a device left in the cold

i think i may have found the reason why its working flaky.. it seems that when its deodexing, it runs into some files that it has to brute force and one (mobileprint.apk/odex) that wont de-odex at all...that may be what is causing the issues.. ill try and post the files odexd so someone could test..

idk, the other guy did it just fine..

how new is eb28? is it gingerbread? is it rooted?
is it secret? is it safe?
Sent from my SCH-I800 using XDA App

EB28 is the latest release of Froyo from sprint. So it's the latest version of stock. Not gingerbread. Not sure how long we'll have to wait to see an official GB release for this Tab, but I'm hoping soon.

Boush was having an issue deodexing that same file for one of his VZW roms - he just ended up excluding it say since it was really a rom for his preferences and he "never used it - never will"

[MOD] Battery Percentage Mod - alternative version

Hello,
I have made some modifications to MaliciousKen's mod of the battery percentage for stock rom:
Changes:
- the main change is to show the percentage even during charging; I based on MaliciousKen's graphic files and just made some changes in the xml
- based on v10d stock rom's framework-res.apk
- retain music notification in the status bar (i.e. same as stock version, you can disable it in Music's setting; there seems no problem in v10d version on this)
This is my first time modifying an apk! Please have a try and let me know if there is any problem
Any screenshots pls??
Will it work on mcr10?
No. This version is for stock ROM.
How do i install this ?
Read this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1007863
You'll install it as is (archive) with option "install zip from sd card".

If you will make this mistake, do a backup first. In case you don't ,you must flash a new rom.
Just a warning, maybe you have anything else to do these days.
Thank you very much by the way..

Sorry if it has caused trouble. Now I have uploaded another one based on MaliciousKen's version directly. So hopefully this should work for v10a/b/c.
Do make a backup (at least copy out your original framework-res.apk) before you try.

hmm.... I did try before posting these files. I only have v10a and v10d stock rom and the above two mods work fine on my phone, so I'm running out of ideas now.
However, if either of the above works for anyone, please kindly let me know.
As said, it's the first time I modified an apk file, so when I found it successful (on my phone), I'm so excited to share here. Too bad if it only works on my phone
I have re-built the apks with another method and tested ok. Please have a try if you have time

which xml file should I edit in order to build a working apk ?
I tried to modify the stat_sys_battery.xml and stat_sys_battery_charge.xml
and I have also put the image file in correct place..
using APKmanager to compile and sign ...
I just got boot loop afterall -__-
Anything I have missed ?
the 1st xml is for the normal display of the icon while the other one is during charging (animation)
i used apktool 1.3.1
(note the latest apktool is 1.3.2 but this one appears buggy, i also had the boot loop with it)

Hy,
Thanks for the rom !!
Can't flash with mobile odin pro ?
Ok all users please remove the DarkyOTA test app that you have currently in your system with some file browser or adb or whatever and download the DarkyOTA app from the market.
I have just made the first theme flashable via OTA.
So first up in the Visuals section of the OTA tab in the DarkyOTA app is the stock Samsung theme.
Please search under OTA/Updates for the text cleaner zip before you use the stock theme.
More Themes to come soon !!

Swype
Hello DarkyFellows
Would anyone be so kind to tell me how to restore Swype?
Although I tried installing the beta version available on the Swype website it doesn't look as before... It has some horrible "theme" and keys with such s ridiculously small size they become unusable.
I actually saw some reference to it in DarkyOTA's DarkyROM section [new, updated one as suggested] but I just couldn't figure out what it was for or how to use it.
Please help...
Please advise...

use sg2toext4.jar to convert the .img file to ext4(generally factory.img contains the framework and app) and then use the disk linux reader tool and mount the img file which you converted using the sg2toext4. Once it is mounted, then you can double click on mounted icon and then select save to folder.
another solution is to use dsixda kitchen to extract the files!
sorry m8, i did not downloaded this ROM, hence i cant upload, but that is the procedure to be adopted.

[MOD] [NAE] [MK2] [Odex] [DeOdex] Enable Native HotSpot

Ok, following the lead of @crawrj, I have put together the Native HotSpot for the NAE update.
I have also added the MK2 HotSpot mods to this thread. They were buried inside crawrj's original thread, and there still seems to be some demand, so here they are also.
I flashed these using the newest philz recovery (6.15.4), but I think for these, the recovery you use doesn't really matter. Let me know if you have issues.
Not many of you are probably DeOdexed at this point, but both versions are available.
NANDROID backup first please !!! Just because they worked fine for me doesn't mean there might not be problems !!!
IMPORTANT: If you are running a custom rom and the author has made any changes to the services.jar file, this will overwrite them !!! Who knows what kind of issues will pop up. If you are unsure, ask in the thread for the rom you are running.

Haven't looked in on the stock(ish) thread for awhile. Are they bugging you to death for the NAE Stock(ish)... lol
Did you flash either one of these to see if they work ok?
ps I also have a 4x6, 4x5, 3x4 if you're interested. Debating on whether or not to post it up. Don't really have time to support it.

Most custom roms will already have this built in. Also, most custom roms will make some kind of changes to the services.jar, which this will overwrite.
My mistake for not saying that in the OP. I'll get it updated.

I remember others complaining of this before in other threads. Did a quick search for 'HotSpot Menu Missing" and came up with this: Click Here It's from crawrj's original thread.
Check it out, and let us know what happens.
Stock rooted, no recovery (I'm weird like that sometimes), manually replaced the files. Worked but borked my phone, any app that updated or got installed afterwards immediately crashed. Including my root explorers. Used goo and installed twrp. Actually flashed the zip, didn't fix it. Replaced the files with original through twrp, fixed. Flashed the zip again and everything is all fine now. Tried out hotspot at work yesterday.
So I guess the moral of this is screw Knox.

Golden Eye v52 for the s4 active (WIP)

im not responsible for anything you do to your phone.
you need flash fire installed on your phone to make this work
i have made GoldenEye v52 5.0.1 run on our phones here is the guide for now im crunched on time so i will just give you the guide to go from 5.0.1 stock to 5.0.1 GoldenEye
the masterpatch i made has issues with the camera. i belive the other master patch does also but i will link it here anyways
go to the golden eye page and download the rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2313469
download the updaterscript attatchment from this post and the masterpatchlolipopbeta ( or try the other one here http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...update-to-i537oc6-5-0-1-t3089355/post60376229 )
OPEN do not extract the GE zip file (using winrar or 7zip)
navigate to META-INF\com\google\android
delete everything in that directory
copy one of the updaterscripts and updaterbinarys from the attatched files into that directory
now close that file.
copy the goldeneye zip and the masterpatch you choose to use to your phone
open flashfire
set up a wipe (select all but internal storage)
select goldeneye zip
select masterpatch zip
make sure flashfire puts them in that order.
flash it.
the rom takes forever to start up the first time. if it is over 20 mins shut the phone off and turn it back on then it should boot up a little faster.
the superuser in this rom is weird. you need to go to settings in SU and and set it to always grant it is a problem with this rom not from me
thanks to the developers of goldeneye and thanks to thisisapoorusernamechoice for the base to make my masterpatch.
like i ssaid the only thing i can confirm nonworking is the camera. but once a better masterpatch comes out it will be fixed
dont forget to hit thanks if this post has helped you in anyway please.

I've been reading to try to deodex lollipop. I've found a few batch tools but haven't gotten them to work. Can't you take the app, private app, and framework folders out of golden eye and put into stock rom? Thats what I was going to try. There's a batch tool called Joel Droid for deodex lollipop roms. I just put onto my computer but didn't try yet. Keep me posted if you deodex the stock rom. I want to try to theme some things.

first try unsucessful. apparently some files in framework folder were never deodexed eventhough it said they were. im going through and swapping them with ones from goldeneye to see if i can get it to work
. if that dosent work i will try to deodex those files manually tomorow. i have wicked slow upload speeds so i would have to wait till monday to go to the library to upload it if i get it working. thats the downside of not having my own internet and using a neighbors..lol

Ok just keep me posted, thanks. What rom did you put into joel droid to deodex it? I can maybe try myself also.

anyone deodexed tmobile stock rom?

Has anyone deodex and successfully installed a stock system image yet? I haven't tried this yet but I am thinking of giving it a shot sometime soon. I was wondering if there were any potential issues of doing this such as wifi calling or what not. The reason I'm doing this is because I'm s-off'd and I'm hoping a deodexed system will allow xposed to successfully work.

Any luck? A deodexed rom would be a huge help for the development community to work on this phone, especially with WiFi calling and voice over lte.
I made a flashable zip, but forgot to change permissions on the apk's on it. It still booted up into android and then android performed it's "upgrading" function at startup and then it rebooted into a bootloop. I had to go somewhere so I ended up flashing back my backup and have not gotten back to it since then as I just got home. I'll try it some more tomorrow or over the weekend.
Any luck on the deodex process? If you need a tester, I'd be glad to help.

same here would love to help.
Hi,
No I haven't had time to work on it any further. I am using a mac so the deodex arm64 tools are all in windows so that's been one challenge, but I was able to do some of that work on my work laptop. The other issue is that I am having trouble getting my updater binary to work. It's failing in TWRP. I'm going to set up a linux environment and install archikitchen when I have more free time, but I've been pretty busy lately.
For whatever reason, I was able to get my original zip to install and reboot and even do the android upgrading function, but then it rebooted into a bootloop. I revised the script to set permissions properly, but then it just fails updating. Sighs.
I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I made a few different attempts at system images but all cause bootloops. I may have to try re-doing the deodex part again, but I used my own zip and script as well as one generated by ArchiKitchen and all caused bootloops, so it's probably my deodex files failing. Will try again when I have more free time.

Thanks! This took a long time to do an initial boot but it works and I didn't wipe data and kept stock kernel. Also xposed was installed without bootloop and s-off, though i waited to install it after initial boot. So big thanks!

Yeah deodexed roms take considerably longer then odexed roms. I think I clocked 19minutes from the time I rebooted from recovery till android was done optimizing.

Did you ever get your deodexed rom to work, or did you give up on that after getting the one posted by @Steel25? I've deodexed mine using the same tool as you, but now I'm stuck on how to get it to install on my device. All of the info that seems to be out there for this pertains to 32 bit roms, and doesn't seem to work on this one. I really appreciate the one provided by @Steel25, but I also really want to accomplish this myself. If someone can help me do this please post or link or PM me. Thank you in advance.

I am currently just using the ROM that @steal25 posted. I tried several things and for whatever reason, I couldn't get it working except for my initial time but that restarted into a bootloop. Archikitchen also doesnt have a deodexer for lollipop, so if there's a some info on what would work let me know.
A lot of things have happened in my personal life that has taken up a lot of my time so I dont have too much time to tinker around with this stuff lately.
I am currently using the one posted by @Steel25 with Xposed using Xtended settings, and everything is working well. My only complaint is that the cores 4-7 can only be clocked to a maximum of 1.5GHZ. However, I am still searching for a way to properly deodex the stock rom and make it installable.

+1, would love to get xposed running on the latest T-Mo build.
I have deodexed the latest T-Mobile 5.1 build, but I don't know how to make it flashable yet. I'm still learning. If anyone who knows how is willing to give me some guidance please PM me. I'm kinda stuck getting a working update-binary and updater-script.
