[Q] Battery Cover Squeeks - HTC Incredible S

After sometime i've started noticing that the battery cover squeeeks specifically if the backside is facing you the left middle part of the back cover squeeeks if you press it it is loose or squeeks is that normal?

Mines the same, pretty annoying, had to put some electrical tape for a tighter fit.

how / where did you put it?

Where the squeek comes from. or try bluetack

i mean you place it inside the cover or externally?

Internally on the inside of the cover

Thanks. I'm going to think about that method

Same thing on mine. Just put on a case, and no more squeaks!

Same I got a cover for the phone. The tight fit stopped the squeek

i have capdase and i still had the squeek, i put in fillers inside the phone and no more squeeks. hopefully my ottercase gets here so that i can take the filler out already.

I have the CaseMate Barely There atm, and it got rid of the squeak completely. Altho, it wasn't really a squeak in my case. It was more of a popping sound.

For what it's worth, I use the Otterbox Commuter and the squeak is still there. I'm seriously considering flashing back to stock and returning the phone for repair or replacement. I know its a small issue but I am also getting 5 second drop outs when on calls.

Close the battery case properly and you will have no squeek. Nothing by me

So does the noise go off after putting the tape inside/outside? Does it look ugly>?

Put some electrical tape on the inside of the cover where it squeeks.
Ugly? You don't see it since it's on the inside.

how long have you had the unit? if you flash and take the battery out once in a while the squeek will come up eventually.
and "close the battery case properly".... how many ways can you close it.

I am going to get a cover for the phone soon but for a temporary fix, I placed a paper peice on the top right side and no more creeking

I have taken it off many times and put it on wrong and it squeeked and put it on a diff way and it went on completely. weird.

i placed some stickies as well and using it now with otter commuter, no squeeks hopefully don't need to tke the battery off anymore.

Same! So annoying having a squeaky phone. Tape did seem to do the trick though

Taking the battery cover off my HD2?

Hello, I have still yet to take the battery cover off my HD2 since it's brand new, and I need to know the least effortless way to take it off without damaging. I have tried with the little slot by pulling up on it but haven't tried very hard and it never comes off. I'm afraid of breaking it.... Help?

Yeah, you've got the right idea there...it's built to have tension so it takes a bit of effort to get it open. First, that little slot is indeed for your nail to help pop it open...now, when you pull on it, do it as if the opposite side (with the volume buttons) is a hinge, and the door needs to swing open like that. I place one of my thumbs on the "hinge" side, and pull up on the other. Once it snaps up about an inch, I lift my thumb and it comes right off. Putting it back on is the exact opposite...first seat the side with the volume buttons securely (this takes some practice), and then swing it closed and snap down on the notch side.
Ugh, that sounds really difficult. This is actually making me regret my decision of buying the HD2. I love everything about it but this stuipid battery cover. Why couldn't it take up the entire middle-bottom of the phone!

Thanks, but I can't view the movie. Shows up as a white square...
don't worry about it really, your finger isn't going to damage the metal battery cover. it just pops right off.
i hold the phone with my right hand on the top and bottom and push the slot with my left thumb, easy peasy.
I'm not worried about the battery cover, just the phone. I've had it since Wednesday and have been phoneless for the past 2 weeks...
Just pull on it its not going to damage your phone, I do it every day.
Its really not that hard to do, you're making it a bigger deal than it actually is. Its made out of metal so I think you will be ok.

I'm very meticulous when it comes to cosmetics. At night, when I'm not using my phone I wrap it in a lint free sunglass cloth, then in a layer of bubble wrap, then in a small bubble wrap lined packaging envelope, then in a larger bubble wrap lined shipping envelope, and then in a prefectly sized cardboard box that I put very carefully in a drawer. Lol, but the case and all it's openings fit perfect.

Makes me believe that you may need to see a doctor. Your worries are baseless and way too superficial.
You're regretting buying the HD2 because of the battery cover? For real? Definitely don't get an evo then. That one feels like it could snap at any moment when you try to take it off. At least the HD2's is metal.
This is a joke, right? How are you going to damage a metal battery cover? What are you using to take it off, The Jaws of Life?
Just take it off. You won't damage it at all. I know it feels like its just going to rip apart but the HD2 can take it

This is what works for me
1) Phone face down
2) Stick your fingernail in the bottom left corner of the metal cover and lift it up. Voila.
Pocketnow technique didn't really work for me. Almost felt like I was going to break it.
There seriously is a thread about how to remove the battry cover???

Does anyones incredible s battery cover squeak?

I noticed that when I pressed on it slighty there was a slight squeak noise that came from the casing. I had recently bought a replacement cover and it was fine and than it did the same thing. What is this? Is it normal for most incredible s devices because I have heard other ppl had the same problem. I dont care as much because I have a case for mine but what about you guys??? Any squeaking issues??? LOL

Yes, same here, mines pretty bad actually!
I've got a case on top and its a tight fit, so it doesn't squeak.

Arrgh, it brings out the OCD in me LOL. But I have a case so it isnt bad, and its only in one little corner and I have to press on it so I geuss its not that bad. Its really a shame because I love this phone and thats its only flaw.
The same case here too.
For me its at the corner. I guess its due to the pressure while we want to unlock the phone, we tend to press the back cover first before hittin the power button.
Ive got a red IS, dunno if i can get another replacable one or not...
P.S I aint using any case or anything, its as fresh as outta the box XD
I believe the squeak is caused by some empty space existing between the phone and the back cover. Stick a strip of duct tape on the inside part of the back cover where it squeaks. It should solve the squeaking problem.
Mine squeaks really badly around the volume buttons. putting a case on fixes it though.
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using XDA App
Yep mine squeaks too, the corner near the camera.
Squeaky
No, mine has not had any squeaks. The USB port does rattle a bit. But not enough to get up in arms about. I find the fit and finish surprisingly good considering the chassis seems to be all plastic.

Isnt that not going to be good for the battery? Overheating it or something? I am kind of weary about putting things inside the phone
yeah it has been discussed tht the cover does squeek, either you have a case that is able to press on the phone good enough to prevent it from squeeking or you put fillers inside the phone to stop the squeeking

Of the ones that squeak (including mine), how many people have removed the back cover? Mine didn't start to squeak until the third time in pulled the battery cover off. I have noticed that on one side there is a small gap along one side more so than the other.
Mine definitely squeaked as if the cover was loose. It's not much of an issue with a case though.
Yep. Mine squeaks.
Top right (Near the camera & power button) and bottom left (near the home button). Intrigues me that it's like a diagonal thing. oh well.
I lold.
Don't really care though. xD
Just send them an email with some proof, some pictures and maybe a short video which you can clearly hear the sqeezing.
I did that and they send me a new cover
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using Tapatalk
I was able to fix this once by somehow properly placing the back cover back on but when the next time I removed it and placed it back, I again started to have the squeak so I used some plastic tape, placed it on the side of the back as well as the top, placed the back cover back and no more squeaking
I had squeaking on the right top and side.

For those with gaps on your One,

Do you think the speaker grill will pop off in the future? I just realized mine has quite a gap, you can slide a paper in.
But I don't want to resort to warranty since I have already been using it for a month plus, and got stuff working and all.
The grill I have in question is the bottom one.
I don't know how strong the glue supporting the bottom grill is.

Wow how did you managed to get the glue inside the gap? I mean I know it's quite a gap, but I don't think it's THAT wide to be able to squueze glue in..
Are the gaps really that much of a concern? I have a bit of a gap on the top speaker grill, but I have a case on the phone too. I don't even notice it now. I'm more concerned about the durability of "Gorilla Glass." I've had 3 iPhones now and I've never scratched my screen. I've owned the HTC One for a month and I've got two scratches already...

[Q] Are the speaker grills supposed to be removable?

My Nexus 6 from Sprint was just delivered. I quickly opened the box and removed the plastic screen cover. I then started to pick a little at one of the speaker grills to make sure there wasn't some plastic on them and it popped out! I quickly put it back in place and it seems to be staying though I'm afraid to pick at it again to see just how well it is in there.
Did I just break my new phone or are removable speaker grills a feature? Perhaps for cleaning out the speaker hole and such?
I don't think that's a feature.
Do they still work?

Yes, the speakers work great. The grills aren't actually grills they're solid pieces of plastic. So, I presume they need to be somewhat loosely installed in the speaker hole to allow air to pass through. I didn't get a good look but it didn't appear as though I'd broken any plastic hooks or anything.

Sounds like it just pops in to secure it in place. I wouldn't worry about it, you do have a full warranty if you ever have a problem.
Well, put the phone in my pocket today and the same speaker grill came off. Looks like I broke it. I'm going to try and get the phone replaced under warranty. Failing that it probably wouldn't be too hard to superglue it back in.
youngm
I never thought of applying superglue on a"high end" device.
I believe the grill design was made to direct the sound waves and also used to not allow the screen to touch the surface it was resting on

[Q] Problems with SIM Covering Flap

I have a Brand New phone where the SIM flap does NOT sit flush with the body of the phone.
The MicroUSB flap if fine and when viewing the screen cannot be seen. However, the SIM flap can be seen raised. If I push it back in it is flush for around 2-3 seconds and then it starts to protrude again!
Surely this will compromise the waterproofing???
I see other people are having problems but most of them where after 2-3 weeks. Mine is like this OUT OF THE BOX!!!
Your experiences?
Bump!
Me too.
Now I'm using the ultraslim cover from Puro and I think this helped reducing that.
Anyway you can try changing the flap, it's cheap and I saw that lot of people with this problem managed to solve in that way.

OK, Just a quick update. Last night, I pushed the SIM Cover right in and wrapped about 3 rubber bands (top, middle & bottom of the flap) over the face of the phone to ensure that the flap remained in place when I let go of it.
When I took the rubber bands off this morning its a lot better.
I don't know if its a long term solution, but the flap does not seem to be protruding as much.... In fact it looks almost flush. :good: for now!

Try the rubber band method... Push the bottom of the flap in and then place a rubber band on it and leave it overnight
For information I had the same issue when I received mine. I did not want to send it back and wait again for a new one so I used to push back the flap when I saw it open. Now, the flap remains closed and doesn't open anymore! I think it just need some time to fit correctly.
I have tried the waterproof test and everything was OK

I'm too chicken to attempt the waterproof test!
You can test waterproofing without water:
1) close the flaps
2) dial *#*#7378423#*#* (7378423 = SERVICE)
3) service tests/pressure sensor
4) press on the screen with your finger, pressure will rise
5) open a flap, press, pressure does not rise
