Dear all,
I need help!I have an unbranded Galaxy S and I usually update the firmware without any problem(until now!!). Few days ago I flashed for the first time JM5 firmware without any problem. Today I had to reflash the JM5 firmware. Everything was ok but when I booted my phone I had the message: "SIM network unlock PIN"!!!!I'm going crazy because I cannot unlock the SIM!!!What's happened? Please help me!!I tried to reflash with an old firmware but no chance to reset!!How can I proceed?
Thank you
Contact your operator for your PIN code, unless you have it in the letter that you got with your SIM card.
EDIT:
Actually: Did you buy the device from Handtec?
According to this thread, they got a batch of Orange-locked phones where they should've been unlocked.
Return the device to them to get a new unlocked one.
The problem is that the phone worked properly without any restriction for 20 days with the same SIM and now I noticed this problem!!!
I cannot also unlock my phone via websites that provide this kind of codes because I don't really know also the name of the opeator that is locking my phone!!
I think that this is an internal problem of phone but I don't know how to fix it.
Other ideas?
What on Earth, same issue here.

What do you mean? Do you mean that sometimes you are able to use your phone e sometimes no? How do you unlock your your phone?
I think that you have an imported device that was unlocked from the seller. When you have restored the factory settings, probably the unlock was... wiped... I have had the same problem after a factory reset; I'm Italian and my Galaxy is an imported item from Hungary or Austria, but I don't know the original provider that locked the device. I have phoned the Samsung Customer Care (the seller is on vacation until the end of august ) and, from the IMEI, they told me only that the device was producted for the Austrian market. Without the provider it's no easy to unlock the phone, but there is a service that I'm trying: unlocksamsung.co.uk - they are partner of Mobileunlocked.co.uk, but unlock only samsung and only using the IMEI number of the phone. In the meanwhile I've ordered a I-Smartsim 2008 from Ebay...
Bye.
Did you try reflashing a different firmware?

All from JF1 to JM5.
so that means the lock in the firmware ? I was under the impression that is was not.

No, the network lock is firmware independent. I was able to flash various firmware without problems in first days. The lock appeared after the first Factory Reset using the vol-up+home+power combo.

I can confirm that the network lock is firmware independent, however my phone went into network lock before Factory Reset.
I did however try Factory Reset to fix it and it didn't help, nor did flashing several other roms, including the stock rom.
I contacted the point of sale and apparently they had a previous issue with a batch of phones but they did not expect it to happen again.
I hope if a replacement isn't honoured then we need to find a solution... :\

Once it showed up I haven't been able to use my phone as a phone.
When you enter your SIM PIN (if you have one), it then jumps to a full screen that asks for a NETWORK UNLOCK PIN.
Just to clarify, this is not PUK or PUK2, as I can use my sim in another phone just fine. ( G1 actually. )
Did you buy your phone from handtec? If so your phone is probably locked to Orange UK.

I don't know. I'm Italian, I bought it as an import "free" device and maybe the phone is from Austria or Hungary. I hope in a software workaround in the future. For now I'm waiting (and hoping in) an unlock code and/or the unlock sim buyed on ebay (till seller reopen at the end of the month...).
Bye.
Just to understand what this issue is about: now, when your phone is trying to connect to the Network, it checks your device's IMEI as "locked" and then negotiate a PIN Dialog?

Now that is REALLY scary.. Can you please try to remember what you did, or what program were you using -->right before<-- the network lock got restored ???! Something must have made the Factory Reset trigger...
Same thing happened to me 2 days ago. I removed the sim from my phone and I left it without battery for ~16hours. When I put the sim back, I got the same message to enter SIM network unlock PIN.
Fortunately for me, my phone was unlocked via an unlocking service and I had the NCK code. The trick is that I cannot unlock the phone again using this code, but I can lock it to my network with it.
The weird thing is that now I can use my phone both on the network that it was previously locked and on the network that i locked it. So, my phone is now locked on 2 networks And the other thing is: I can enter as many unlock codes that I want. it is no more limited to 3 tries.

rbnet.it, let me try to clear things out and understand it:
A - Wasn't your phone dead?
B - What program did you use to check your locks?
Also i'd like to leave some general question for anyone who knows:
C - Do you think that if a galaxy S user unlocks its phone online using some kind of site, the phone will eventually lock himself up again?
D - Are the locks "predictable"? I mean, will the phone always do Network-Lock or always do Sim-Lock?
This scares me out a lot, my phone is locked to "TMN" (network only) but everything is OK as long as it stays that way... But i'm starting to believe that it won't

A: No, it isn't dead It's network-locked on a foreign countries/provider: I can't use the phone section (call, mobile networks, etc) within Italian providers, but if I dismiss the pin request (or leave out the SIM), I can use any other functions.
B: a samsung code that check the status of the phone: http://ip208-100-42-21.static.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=721111
Bye.
Good news guys.
I contacted Handtec ( Place of purchase. ) and apparently it's a issue with Samsung Firmware or something.
The guy sent me a network unlock code, and it seems to work.
I haven't got the prompt again.
That's just what I was wishing for =)
Since yaz00us told us that his phone locked himself up, it had to be a Samsung Bug.
By the way, does the given code work for future times? If so i might ask mine right away... =)
thanks for the good news

Have you tried the app found in the market? (you need the original Sim card from where you got the phone and any other company's sim card
Try searching for "SGS unlock" in market place. It should be called the "Samsung Galaxy S Unlock Tool".
Simply Run the app after installing (while using the original Sim card) and it should give you two codes: an unlock code and an unfreeze code.
Once you get them, I suggest writing it down and/or emailing it to yourself.
After that, turn off your phone and swap the sim card to the one you want to use. The phone "should" ask you for the unlock code when you turn it back on and after it has booted. Simply enter the unlock code and you phone should then tell you it's unlocked (if everything works ok otherwise it will say it was unsuccessful).
Note: I am on Bell in Vancouver running the stock 2.1 firmware and it's worked fine for me. There have been people who were not so lucky and it did not work for them. There are even those who have gotten their phone locked due to trying to many time when after it fails to unlock, but that is what the unfreeze code is for. If you're with Orange mobility, I've read that some of their phones were already unlocked. You could always just try a different sim card and see if it accepts it if you haven't done so already.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for replying, new to this site not sure what I'm doing !
When i paid to have the phone unlocked i had already canceled my o2 monthly contract so the phone had no Sim in it when being unlocked, i don't have the o2 Sim anymore, i brought the phone from o2 so they might help me out I'll have to ask them. I've just put a o2 pay as you go Sim in the phone & it didn't ask for the Sim Network Unlock Pin but with the 3 contract Sim it does ask. I have installed the SGS Unlock tool but i haven't run the app. I'm having the phone unlocked again tomorrow so he hopefully can sort it out. Thanks again.
I tried to "SGS unlock tool" and nothing does not give me the codes. When I go to the root gene codes told me: "Sorry, no codes found. File not found: Do you have S Business"
I have no idea what to do.
Is there some other way to decode or knows someone why this is happening?
I also tried with Generate Unlock Windows, error is: can not find nv_data.bin
I have been looking around the internet on how to unlock this tab (both English and Japanese websites) and I have came across this:
http://berorin.blog.shinobi.jp/Entry/1489/
According to this blogger, he unlocked his tablet by doing the following:
1. (本来使えないキャリアのSIMが刺さってる状態で)*7465625*638*#に電話
2. 使いたいSIMのMCC/MNCを入力(SBなら440/20)
3. ControlKeyに97286414
4. Unlock Saccessfull!的なメッセージが出たら再起動
5. 刺してあったSIMが認識される=アンロック完了
Translation
1. (With another carrier's sim card in the tablet) dial *7465625*638*#
2. Enter the sim card's MCC/MNC (For softbank it would be 440/20)
3. Enter 97286414 on the control key blank
4. A message like "Unlock Successful" would appear, and then reboot
5. The sim card's provider will be recognized (on your tablet) = unlock complete
SIMロック限定解除を解く場合。
To solve the limited sim unlock problem:
次に「#7465625*638*CODE#」をコール。
表示されるNetwork LockのEnter Network Lock Control Key欄に「97286414」を入力⇒OKをタップ。するとUnlock Successlyと表示される。
Next, dial #7465625*638*CODE#
The Network Lock screen with a Enter Network Control Key column should appear. Enter 97286414 then press/click ok. Once you do so, a message stating "Unlock success" should appear.
Now, I have the Overcome rom on my tab and tried this. It did not work. However, I am curious if someone with the original stock rom (Docomo) can successfully unlock this.
I do have network lock, network subset lock, SP lock, CP lock, and Data lock off but for some reason I still get the "Enter Network Control Key" message when I boot it up with another sim card.

- If you use hexedit app, for clearer instruction do the procedure below :
1. Root the Tab, z4root.1.3.0.apk: http://forum.xda-dev...ad.php?t=833953
2. Install Super Manager as your root explorer. Enable root function in settings.
3. Backup /efs folder with Super Manager to your SDcard to be sure.
4. Open a copy of nv_data.bin in a hex editor. I installed HexEditor. Change 00181462 to 00 (note edit point is currently 01. It is the first two digits after seven "ff").
5. Open /efs with Super Manager set to Mount R/W and your modified nv_data.bin in the Root Explorer clipboard.
6. Rename or delete nv_data.bin and nv_data.bin.md5 and paste nv_data.bin (you have the originals in your /efs backup).
7. Power off the tab.
8. Insert new sim carrier.
9. Power on.

I assume you mean did not work?
I also have a Docomo tab and am moving back to Australia after some time living in Japan and was hoping to unlock my tab. It's disappointing that the SC01C uses a different lock mechanism. I guess one of these little SIM boards that stick to your SIM to fool the device into thinking they are still on a different carrier might be an option. Selling it has become another option for me - I'm really annoyed that Samsung released this thing with all sorts of little arbitrary differences between different reasons creating lots of confusion about which roms can be run. Disappointing.
By the way I returned my SC01C back to stock, but I don't have a Docomo SIM so I have been using it WIFI only. I might see if I have another carrier SIM to try...
EDIT: I might not be much help as it appears my Docomo Tab is actually unlocked already. When I inserted an Australia Vodafone SIM in it accepted it but said 'No Service'. I would have thought it would have told me 'Invalid SIM' or words to that effect. Secondly, I tried the Softbank SIM from my HTC Desire in my Tab and it said 'Not registered on network', rather than warned me about the SIM. Is there any option I need to go to in order to test it further? I used my tab exclusively as a WIFI tab so far...
@zetsurin,
Have you tried changing the nv_data.bin on the /efs folder?
Rotohammer posted it works on all GSM Galaxy Tab.
Just be sure to back-up your original files, so you can revert it back.

Ok, I decided to try the codes and I am roaming on Softbank with an Australian Vodafone SIM using my SC01C Docomo tab!
Firstly, to summarise everything the following Samsung codes are involved:
*#7465625# = Check the locks
*7465625*638*Code# = Enables Network lock
#7465625*638*Code# = Disables Network lock
The whole 'Code' business confused me. So basically you enter it like this:
Firstly, I entered *7465625*638*#. If I enter '505/03' (Vodafone Aus) and then 97286414 for the control key, I actually get a 'Lock successful' message, and in fact I saw some other Japanese blogs mention this. This is because that's a lock request, rather then unlock request. So I decided to enter the lock check (first code) and it confirmed I have a lock on.
Then I entered #7465625*638*#. It requests the control code only this time. So I then entered 97286414 and bingo I see the 'unlock successful' message and then the lock check confirmed my tab is unlocked.
Finally I selected Softbank for roaming with my SIM and it worked perfectly. I believe this is the correct way to unlock the SC01C we have as it doesn't have the same format nv_data (I've seen several sources say this actually).
thanks!!!
i was able to unlock it.
problem is, im not able to register to either docomo or softbank. i wonder what's wrong since i can do this on my galaxy s.
Thanks Everyone, unlock successful!

This really worked..... Thank you so much!!
works, but ony until restart
Hi!
This is the first method, that really works with my docomo galaxy tab. Thank you verry much, for the manual!
Unfortunately it only works until I restart the phone. After restart it asks for network lock key again, and I have to do the whole process from the begining.
Is there any way to make this unlock permanent?
(I also tried several other methods, like haxediting, etc,)
I have an ATT SGT with Overcome ROM, and just unlocked my TAB with an app I got on the Market called Galaxy Tab Unlock. Worked without a hitch. I had no unlock code or anything from ATT. I have used different SIM's and they all work. Also have data working with non ATT SIM's after putting in the APN's. The app, once installed, is called Galaxy S Unlock, but works with my TAB. Painless!
Yes, it worked until i reboot the tab.
no solution for this issue yet?

Found this,
1
Get the IMEI number for your phone. This is also known as the International Mobile Equipment Identification Number. You can do this in one of two ways. Remove your battery, and look for the 15- to 17-digit number underneath it, or type in *#06# and wait for it to appear on your screen. Once you've gotten it, write it down on a piece of paper.
2
Find a website that sells unlock codes for LG phones, like TheTravelInsider.com. GSMLiberty.net and GlobalUnlock.com (see Resources). As of 2010 these sites charge between $9.99-$24.99 for their unlock codes (prices as of 2010).
3
Go to the site that you have chosen and enter the IMEI number. Find the make and enter LG, then enter the model of your phone, the country that your phone is registered in along with the mobile service provider, and click "Submit." This will bring you to the next page, where you must enter your payment details and a valid e-mail address.
4
Get the unlock codes from your e-mail.
5
Turn your phone off, removing the battery and the SIM card.
6
Get a SIM card from a different network. If you don't have one, borrow one from a friend or purchase a prepaid card from any convenience store.
7
Replace your battery and turn the phone back on. When it comes on, it will ask you for a code. Simply enter the one that you got in your e-mail exactly as you see it. Do not add any additional spaces or characters. Enter "OK" and wait a few seconds. The phone will beep and flash and turn off.
8
Wait a few more seconds and it will turn back on automatically. If it doesn't push the "On" button. When it comes back look at the top of the screen. If the unlock was successful the new network name will show. If it doesn't work the first time, try the unlock code again.

Just to know, that's not possible to unlock phone using Custom ROM, right ?
In this case, I suppose we have to go back to Stock ROM but what version !?
I had v11c first, I guess I had to flash this one. But will it work if I flash v20n ??

Hi guys. I have a problem a bit similar to the ones I read earlier but my problem is that I entered my PIN code and phone didn't recognize it. Now I should have an option to enter PUK code and everything would be fine, but I don't have that option. My screen says: "Take a look at the manual or contact with your service provider" (something like this, my phone language is Polish so I may translate something not correctly). I did take a look at the manual but there was nothing that could solve my problem so I'm asking you, members of xda community, is there any way to solve this problem without taking phone to my GSM provider?
If you are using custom rom try full wipe maybe it would hep
Sent from my X8 using XDA App
It didn't work, but it turn my phone language into english so I can write what it says:
"SIM card is PUK-locked."
"Please see the User Guide or contact Customer Care."
If you inputted a incorrect PIN for too many times the SIM card will lock up and require the PUK to reset the PIN failure counter - that much the phone is actually doing right.
If you don't have a possibility to enter the PUK then all you can do is to see a service point of your mobile operator to have the SIM card resetted.
There's pretty much nothing you can do as that's a security function of the GSM card and not the phone or the OS.
EDIT: Any chance entering **05*<PUK Code>*# or **05*<PUK Code>*<New PIN>*<New PIN confirm># works? (in case you can get to the dialer)
I can get to the dialer, but I didn't know that I can enter PUK there, I'll give it a try and write either it worked or not.

The second method worked! Thanks! When I use this first method it says that is either connection problem or MMI code is invalid.
