I found the fix for 2.3.4 HKTW users cardock Force Closing.
attached is the 1.83 version of cardock2.apk
copy CarDock2.apk to /system/app ( I used root explorer )
then in root explorer change the permissions to
owner - read write
group - read
others - read
or change the permissions in lxterminal type
chmod 644 /system/app/CarDock2.apk
then reboot a few times to get the service to start....
Thanks Crnkoj for helping me out!
Update: Known bugs:
1. The Music button doesn't work.
Workaround: Manually add a different music player or the new moto music player to another button.
Nice! I wonder what else we could use from 4.1.83 to fix issues on 2.3.4. Maybe fix the fingerprint reader?
Thanks so much for this, did you pull it off of a phone that was loaded with it? is there an easy way to extract the SBF image into a file system to play around with it?
<--- newb sorry

I am supposed to be able to use spf_flash to extract the files but I can't get it to work.
Crnkoj provided me the file in his dropbox when I was in the irc channel.

fingerprintsensor.apk did not work. just finished testing it.
so extracting an apk like this is the same as having a titanium backup from a previous build?
Music player doesn't work, but I'm willing to guess that it requires the 1.8.3 music player. This is just a guess though. I'll give it a shot soon.
Booo, I wonder if there are some dependancies... does anyone know if there is a way to get an error output from a FC?
Crud, still didn't work. It didn't pick up the 1.8.3 music player. I wonder if it's due to it being version 2.2.2. Hum.

umm kinda except the file file was called cardock.apk I had to rename the file to cardock2.apk, overwrite the 2.3.4 cardock2.apk then apply the correct permissions.
can't do this in titanium backup because the filename is different.
Just installed this fix, about to head to Fry's to pick up the car dock and a dock for home, I'll try out the car dock on the way home, crossing my fingers that this worked
verified working
yeah, it works great! I just added an alternate music app.

A couple of people asked for the pdfviewer app from the haykuro builds. I don't think this is a paid app so I think its ok to upload here.
If not, somebody let me know and I'll remove it.
EDIT:
Added libpdfreader.so. Push this to /system/lib
Add FilePicker.apk. Push to /system/app
probably won't work on pre-cupcake images..
Just in case anyone was wondering - this doesn't work on a stock R33 build.

Why would you not tell us what library? just end your one line comment with an emoticon smirk, nice.
PDFViewer uses FileViewer.apk and /system/lib/pdfreader.so

Any other tips on how to get this to work? I know I'm not the only one looking for a way to view PDFs on the G1.

I uploaded the library.
I tried to copy the file into /system/lib
looks like I ran out of space
so can not put the .so file into it. Any suggestion?
update:
I removed/replaced some apps from the /system/app with adb command.
so I free up about 4MB space on the phone.
And I did installed the pdf viewer & push the .so file into the /system/lib now is working fine.
what I removed:
HTCAlbum.apk ( there is other Gallery app )
Mail.apk ( I am using K9 mail )
what I replaced
Camera.apk
HTCLauncher.apk
Hope it will help ( I am running 5.0.2Hr3 )
I've testet it on Haykuros 5.0.1G r3.
Only the .apk causes an error message. After pushing the libary to /system/lib , there is no error message.
But after starting the viewer, the device changed automaticly to the homescreen and doesn't start.
There must be something missing ?
edit:
Only starting the App doesn't work. But if I select an PDF, it works !!!
Thank you dwang
Btw, don't try it on the newer 1.5 ADP builds. When you launch a pdf, the application realizes it's not on an HTC-branded firmware and uninstalls itself (leaving only the library file in /system/lib).

Yeah i noticed this last night, its driving me nuts because pdf viewing is essential to me
hhahahha! It does uninstall itself! That's kind of funny... Not so much when it happened though. I ended up using dude's .9 build and all works well. No bugs for me...
So the question is: by what means is it detecting who built the firmware? Could it be as simple as /system/build.prop?

Anyone know how to make ring tones loop?
I say this as I am using the Incubus froyo build and when I set it to the Digital Ring (not a custom ring tone) , it only tones once.
This, as you can imagine is quite annoying, anyone know why or how to fix this? Others must be dealing with this problem.
This was talked about before but I'll have to look for it, from what I remember you need to open it in an audio editor and there's some kind of "loop" tag that is set to false on Digital Ringtone. I'll see if I can find the post (unless somebody beats be to it)
EDIT: Here's the post
and HERE is an archive with all the files already looped
Use Bell phone its close. Sorry I don't have a better solution.

Thanks for the link. I remember this being an issue in the past (I have used Android since the beginning). I remember putting the media folder on the SD card and the phone detected automatically.
This is not the case however with my version of froyo. I put the media folder on the SD card with all the audio and the phone isn't detecting the additional ringtones. Is there anything else I need to do?

Download 7zip (google it) and you can open .tar/.tgz files with it.
Download the build you'd like to use and open with 7zip.
Replace the media folder with the new one.
Flash the new androidinstall.
Or here's an androidupdate with the new media. (Haven't tested though)

Good point. For cm6.1 beta2, just alter the build.prop as follows:
ro.product.cpu.abi=armeabi-v7a
ro.product.cpu.abi2=armeabi
and reboot.
This was not my fix, and I take no credit for it - it was in the big thread. I believe that the forthcoming beta 3 is going to have this change built-in.

I have been trying to days now to get this one last piece working. I have copied the flash apk to everywhere I can think of but still can't get it to install. Any ideas what else I can try? I am running CM v6.1b2.

I am having the same problem trying to install on full vanilla. In fact, my device will not even download the rar...it fails. I had to copy it from another device....so dumb question, i assume i just need to rename the file to apk, not unrar it?
Flash 10.1 fix
I used a RAR extractor on my windows machine then side loaded the APK into SD on system. I then used ES file explorer to find the file On the internal SD and when I opened it it gave me the option to install. Install went off without a hitch.
I have stock system with no ROM changes and I loaded launcher pro which I use instead onf TapNTap. I have now viewed many Utube video's as well as movie trailers with no problems.
Hope that helps

My apologies for not explaining more fully. I actually have the build.prop edit in place. I tried copying the flash apk to /system as well as /system/app. My problem is that I can't get it to install. Either I get an error, the program attempting the install crashes, or nothing happens.
By the way, you mention a beta 3 of CM. Any idea where I can find it? I did a quick 'net search but came up with nothing specific for the gtablet. Guess I need to plow through the megathread again.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Edit: Could it be I need to fix flash prior to installing CM? I had to do that with the wifi hack before it would work. Guess I need to get another backup going just in case.
Edit (again): Never mind about Beta 3. I see in the megathread that it is in the works.
For the APK error, not sure about vanilla (never tried it). TnT Lite is 90% vanilla so I figured it should work on full stock.
I usually install with "adb install", which is how I tested it. I assumed a sideload would also work. I haven't put it in /system yet although I probably will do that when I build out TnT Lite 2.00 - that's coming next week btw, as soon as VS sends out their new firmware update and I can get my hands on it.

I may try flashing back to stock(ish) and installing from there.

My GTab was configured like yours. I unintalled Flash 10.1 and loaded the vanilla "out-of-the-box" Rom version. This version also had the clockwork menu so when you Flash don't panic if you see this pop up, just follow the instructions for loading the update.zip file from the /sdcard (I think it was option 2). I then side loaded Flash 10.1.apk from the PC to /sdcard and using ES File Explorer to access /sdcard, I doubled clicked on the Flash 10.1.abk to install.
Then I reinstalled TnT_Lite 2.0, flashed and then TnT_Lite 2.02 & Flashed this update.
ESPN3 works great. Also get Flash_TV from the Android Market and you now have IPTV. I am anxious to get the docking module so I can stream HDMI 1080P to my 46" LCD. No more cable, no more monthly cable bills (I do get internet 28MB/sec service).
Still looking for an optimized Nvidia Tegra 2 video media player that will take advantage of the processors embedded video encoder functions. I expect this will play HDMI 1080P movies quite nicely. Rock Player is rumored to be working on a dual core Cortex 9 version. Right now it plays using the software control option and is slow and clunky.
I believe that Flash 10.1 is optimized for the Nvidia Tegra 2 processor and it is quite nice. The streaming videos play smoothly. Not sure how they will play in HD when using the docking module and the HGMI connection to the large screen.
Best of luck. It's easy once you figured out how to do the original Flash load(s).

You don't need access to a pc. Download a rom that has it. Use a file manager to extract the rom to your sd card and move it to system/app.
This is my Captivate. There are many like it but this one is mine.

Thanks for this. I forgot to mention that I had tried it numerous times with no success and although the one you just posted does appear in my app drawer, it force closes as soon as I open it. I really don't wanna change my rom but I will have to if I can't get this player to work. Is there any permissions that I would have to modify? Thanks again.
I don't if it's permissions or if it requires something else? I guess you could always change the permission on it to 777 and see if that works. If not I don't really know.
I actually found a flashable .zip in the fascinate forum and it works except it force closes when you switch to disc mode and when u use the controls from the notification bar.
I had a look at the logcat to see why the fingerprint registration window fails.
It seems as though the application its trying to load a resource it deems as not drawable.
That means, some deodexing should help this
My system is not set up for this kind if fun, anyone else that wants to jump the gun?
As far as I can tell, the following is needed:
1) SBF extraction
2) Find the offending apk or system jar
3) Replace the resource
4) Make a CWM zip for all our friends to enjoy
Thoughts?
Maybe you could post the logcat around the error message, or the whole thing. It could help the devs figure out what is needed.
Just in case anyone was wondering, using the software for the 1.83 fingerprint reader on the 2.3.4 build is definitely out. I copied Fingerprintsensor.apk and Fingerprintsensor.odex from the /system/app directory of the 1.83 build to the SD card and then flashed to the 2.3.4 build. As soon as I'd copied those files from the SD Card back into the /system/app directory, I immediately started getting constant FCs'. Reboot had no effect, so I flashed back to 1.83.
I figured I'll wait for someone smarter than me to fix the fingerprint scanner.
