[Q] Is my phone getting older ? - Solved - Touch Diamond2, Pure Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm using the Topaz 2.53 Stock rom Sense 2.5 with 2.1 Messaging (OS 5.2.21887 Manila 2.5.20113030.0) for almost a year now.
For a long time every thing worked great, messaging worked fast, the hebrew worked perfectly, even the cookie home tab was moderately fast.
In the last two-three months, I noticed that my topaz got significantly slower than it usually was, and that even right after a soft reset (56% of the memory is in use).
I can't understand what had happened, since I haven't installed any new software in the last six months, and haven't changed any setting too.
Has any one else had the same experience ?

hard reset or new phone will cure it.

Some good news and some bad news..
I did do a hard reset, and the phone worked as expected - like new.
I recomend installing the NeoS2007_Driverpack_3, it made the effects look smoother.
After installing CHT (1.8.5 btw) it got a little slower, and after synchronizing with outlook it went back to the original "old" state.
I can say that I could isolate the problem to the home tab, all other tabs are fast.
More over, I can say that overclocking the phone did not solve the problem (or have any effect for that matter).
Can someone tell my if the newer versions of CHT work faster ?
Or is it possible to make the clock smaller and add the flight mode as quicklink without CHT ?
Thanks

hi, i got my Diamond2 in October 2009, so it is not even 2 years old now. the plastic body is not holding so tight anymore, I bought 3 more batteries hoping to last longer than 1 day of intensive (i used those batteries, which were significantly worse after 1-2 months of use and I am back to the original one again). I flashed the ROM several times, used tess for 1 day, duttythroy for 1 day, EnterpriseV for 1 day, and I sticked to EnergyROM with CHT 2.0.0.0 again. having 80mb of free ram after soft-reset is pretty ****ty, but what can I do? still better than using the stock ROM. the phone is slow since I started to use WM65. it was significantly faster on WM61, but the lack of WM65 features made me accept the slow-down.
necessary tweaks - use the advised amounts of cache (use Touch Tools to adjust it), disable animation, no clock flips... keep it to the "low detail game settings..."
tlsty

Happy end
I decided to give the new CHT (meaning 2.0) a try, and that made a big difference.
The home tab is not laggish any more, at least no more than all the other tabs.
Any way, my conclusion is to do a hard reset every once in a while, and more importantly, install every software in the right order.
Thanks guys

Why not performiung a Hard-SPL and get introduced to the awesome world of customRoms? You will be surprised how snappier TD2 feels on a 20922 build plus all the custom rom goodies
EDIT: Oops just read your last post, everything is fine now... but I would recommend you a custom rom based on a far newer build with Cookie HomeTab 2.0 cooked in. It makes a huge difference, believe me.

The problem with using new roms is the hebrew. I have now a rom that the hebrew language does not mess. I'm sure other hebrew speakers managed to overcome this problem even with the use of wm 6.5.x, but for me this rom good enough.
I might want to use the android (including the sense), once it could be made the native OS .

Are there any Diamond owners with stock roms that are happy

Just wandering because I have wanted a Diamond from the very first time I set eyes on one. I am not into messing with it as much as I see most members are here. I surely would like to have a better, faster, stronger Diamond but not at the expense of having to reboot every other day, or having it do some weird thing just when I need it the most. I need to know, should I get one, given that I probably am too chicken to mod it? My main uses would be basic phone functions, camera and GPS. I am not really into music and surfing is really too slow and costly, except over WIFI, which I never seem to get when I really need it .
Thanks Wayne.
My Orange ROM is fine. No branding. Fast and stable. Does everyting you want
Installed a few extra apps like Tomtom and S2P (music player)
I have the NAM version available at best buy. No problems at all with the stock rom. Its fast stable, and the radios, gps, etc all work fine. Cant see flashing a rom when I have no problems with the stock rom and no performance issues. Fiddling is a different story. IMO the diamond needs some tweaking to reach its potential. An example would be that on mine at the tf3d home screen there is a soft button for phone which performs exactly the same as the hard button for phone. Cant figure out who thought it would be a good idea but I used advanced config to change the softkey to contacts.
I am happy with the phone, especially its compact size. I haven't flashed any ROM yet, just using the Telstra stock rom for the last 5 months. Very stable and no hard-reset so far. Though I think I would flash some other ROMs soon as I just can't resist the temptations and the excitement of playing with the phone.

I have the US Version too, I got it from Ebay last week, and some tweaks via Advanced Config it's running like a champ! The only issue I have is every once in a while, TouchFlo 3F will freeze for what seems like forever, then start working again okay, I'm not sure if it's just normal or something is conflicting somewhere.
Using stock rom since first day i got my diamond, only hard reset once since, and thats the first day i got it
the only thing that irks me is the meager amount of device memory available
Looking through all the custom roms, doesnt really find one that suits me, so.. stock rom for me then
Stock Sprint ROM here... no issues, other than the phone's lack of device memory as stated above. Not much I can do there, and I like the look of Sprint's TF3D, so I'm keeping it.
been running stock UK ROM for six months and working fine. Would love to take some of the apps out that came with phone to free up memory such as IE and MSN, but can't do that without using a cooked ROM, and my need does not take me past the point of having a bricked phone to do it! I have installed some other programs (mostly games), but if you are using the phone for what you say you will have no bother at all with memory.
The only bad things about the phone is the battery life is rubbish with the stock 940 battery. I have upgraded to the 1340 one and that has solved all my problems, so I would say try and get one with the bigger battery with it (bear in mind it does make the phone slightly wider and the back cover is matt not gloss that comes with the larger battery).
Hope this helps.
Yes best phone i ever had
Very happy with the stock 1.93 ROM. I only reset maybe once every month, and the phone is on 24/7. Best thing I did was to disable TouchFlow 3D and install SPB Mobile Shell.
o2 German Stock Rom 1.93 with small reg. Tweaks. Runs fine and i am happy.
Wow, that's great to hear. I think you get too caught up in all the negative stuff when you do any kind of search on electronic devices. I am not apposed to flashing a new rom it is just that I know with every good thing there is always attached some weird and wonderful "bug". I am also not apposed to tweaking as I have done so with my Touch. Do any of you have any issues with the GPS? Again, a lot of negative stuff out there, especially about position lag. I just tried a CDMA version at Telus in Toronto, Canada and while playing with the Tflo 3D I noticed some lag at times. It was fast and smooth then it would not move then it seemed to catch up but I had already tried to move it again so it was all over the place then it would be okay. I am waiting for Rogers to get it and if not I might bite the bullet and get an unlocked one.
Thanks for all your replies it is nice to see that I do not have to flash a new rom to be happy.
Dhatw.
A happy one here too with a german stock ROM...
i love my stock rom, i have changed the www europe rom with the eastern Europe stock rom, foundit on an Romanian site.. basically is the same, and i have tried custom rom but they wore not of what i expected so i'm happy with my stock rom, until i learn how to cook mine
I love my diamond, stock unlocked US 3G.
Running stock WWE 1.93 ROM with minor tweaks, cant remember the last time I had to reset & on 24/7.
Top phone, best I've had yet !
Yes,yes,yes,yes,yes,yes,yes,yes,yes,
hapy too with my 1.93 htc rom
the only suggestion I have is
A) Flash the .08 radio (much better for gps easy and no hard reset)
B) use diamond tweak to customize your phone
C) disable quick gps (with diamond tweak)
i did a little bit of theme modding to get rid of most of the stinky T-Mobile branding, other than that everything is running fast and smooth.
would probably be faster and smoother by running another ROM / Radio, but i'm not bothered enough to tinker about that much, not yet anyway.
battery life is a bit crappy when you've got the heavyweights running (GPS/WiFi) but then you'd expect that. phone also gets very hot when charging or in heavy use.
keeps me warm in winter.
overall, i'm definitely happy. if ever i doubt getting this phone i'll put my sim back in my MDA Touch for an hour to remind myself of why i needed a new handset.
At first I was bothered by the battery life but now I either charge overnight or leave it in a cradle at work so it's not an issue, unless I go camping or something
I realised within a few weeks that I didn't like TF3D but, having got rid of it and the HTC Dialer & Volume Control, the Diamond is a much better device now.
I'm unsure if I'll get another HTC device but I'm hoping within the next year-and-a-bit they can come up with a device the same size with a better battery and TV out!
Edit - Oh yeah, not a stock ROM!

Touch Diamond unresponsiveness

Hi
My new Touch Diamond is such a complete dog in terms of its ability to respond within less than 2 seconds to any 'touch', that I either have to get rid of it, or change the ROM to something better.
I've got the latest Orange UK upgrade ( came as delivered ), have installed advanced config & made the various changes suggested on this forum, but its made zero difference.
Anyone got a suggestion for a ROM to instal ?
Im running the latest version of the Orange UK ROM, and am having no problems, in fact it flies.
Have you tried changing to a cooked ROM? that may well help
Have you tried using DiamondTweak and TF3D Config?
I was hoping for some guidance on which cooked ROM to use that has 'speed' as its main idea...
try the new 2.00 ROM series, much better than 1.93/1.97 or whatever
see my sig
2.00
yes this is the way forward
before you try to install a cooked rom....read....read and then...read some more
i don't want your next post to be " help....i have bricked my phone"
welcome to the forum and good luck with your diamond
Thanks all. I've done ROM upgrades before so no problems getting to the 2.00 ones.
In fact I did it yesterday morning with Shaks ROM & battery life improved so much I've stil lhave not had to charge it. Used to be every morning. Responsiveness improved a lot, although now have slight problems with the 'start' button ( only works sometimes ) & photo album / contacts being TOO responsive & you simply cant flick through either of them without activating them.
Anyone got any solutions ?
Cheers

Really disappointed with official 6.5 ROM stability - any advice?

I've now been running official non-hacked 6.5 ROM for the duration it's been out officially.
- Performance is worse than 6.1, esp on the Manila interface I use
- I've had 2 hard crashes (had to pull out the battery)
- many screen drawing glitches
- several times needed to restart the phone, because some part stopped working properly
- missed too many calls / messages to count
Now, my phone was working reasonably ok with 6.1. haven't dropped it a single time.
Only system level app / tweak I've installed is Pocket Shield 3.2 (and NetCF 3.5 which is reguired).
Is there anything that could be done to make the 6.5 more stable? Any tips?
Or, is there an unofficial ROM that people have found to be more *more stable* than the official (heaven forbid)?
I'm getting really bored with this phone and am ready to toss it, if I can't get it running properly anymore. This is daily tool for me, not a toy, so I'm rather non-plussed that the upgrade was this bad.
People here actually run stock ROMs?
I think that what you'll find depends entirely on you. The stock ROM I ran was OK. Bit of a memory hog, rather bloated for my taste, but ran pretty smoothly and seemed stable. So, either we have different tastes (and we do), we ran different stock ROMs (definitely seems the case), or both. I'm betting both.
Improving the stability of a stock ROM? Yeah, that's kinda what the chefs here do when they cook up a ROM. I suppose you could probably get serious about tweaking it and playing with things....but why? Go flash a few ROMs, and find one that suits you and your needs. I have yet to see a ROM that's worse than stock. (Well, in the Kaiser days there was one....lol, but it thankfully never was posted on XDA.)
I didn't see if you specified which OEM ROM you have been using. I'm using the TILT 2 (ATT) Stock ROM for about a week and it is very stable and responsive. It, like all ATT ROMs, is very bloated leaving limited memory, but I have yet to have a problem due to out of memory issues.
So far, I am quite impressed, as this is not what I have become accustomed to with AT&T bloat ROMs.
I have upgraded the radio, as when I unlocked had to reflash it. In fact, I have been so impressed with the stock, that I have been reluctant to reflash it at this point. I haven't looked in to doing the hard reset or soft reset other than with the power button.
What apps have you loaded on top of the stock ROM? Maybe you have loaded something that doesn't play well?
I haven't been a ROM user yet on the Rhodium forum, but I know that I had very good success with NRG's ROMs on the Fuze and he is cooking here now as well. I'm sure there are some other very nice ROMs.
Also, have you tried a hard reset?
v/r
try one of the non stock 6.5 218xx builds that are cooked up by the chefs here, they tend to be way more stable and responsive than the stock roms. im having a great time with miri's rom
Thanks for all the replies.
The bug lists for almost all non-stock ROMs have scared me away so far.
I don't want a bleeding edge ROM. I wish for a stable one and the stock was a horrible disappointment.
I start pruning down my installs. I have had very little on top of the STOCK. Just Pocket Shield and couple off non-resident apps (mini opera, etc).
Now I'll just zap the whole phone and start from scratch with nothing on it.
Maybe it'll stop crashing.

Agree with you. i am using WM6.5 Official HTC Europe Version, same problem
I've been running the Timor.7.1 optimized T-Mobile ROM for 2 days straight with absolutely no issues at all.
I previous had the AthineOS rom and NRG and some other rom and they were unstable except the NRG rom, I just dind't like the NRG rom.
Im happy with my phone
vasra, you haven't listed where you are, which carrier or which version of the Rhodium you're using.
If you've got a Tilt2 I'd recomend At0mAng's Fusion V6.0 HTC Sense 2.1 ATT Version
He said V6.0 will be out later today. That's is probably the best At&t rom out at the moment.
My advice, go back to 6.1, there are no perfect roms on this forum. Always something here and there, you have to flash almost all of them and find what works best for you. For example some ppl was reporting some prob with energy rom regarding video call, since Im in the U.S. and we dont have that so to me its not a bug, just an example. So find what works for u, dont listen too much to what bugs are being report by users all over the world, if you cant do that, go back to 6.1
Thanks for all the replies again.
I'm on WWE / Euro English GSM/3G ROMs, phone bought in the Netherlands, but used all over Europe.
BTW, I wasn't aware I can go back to 6.1. How can I do this?
I think I'll test a couple of the builder ROMs, once an 'official' 6.5.1 ships, which I hope fill fix some of the 6.5 official bugs.
I also uninstalled Pocket Shield completely, which took away some of the problems I was having, but not all. Plus now I have to be content with the inane built-in "lock" system of 6.5. Grrrrr...
the HTC 6.5 rom comes with alot of apps you never going to use (well some people)
the Timo rom that is 6.5 posted here on the forum he just removed alot of microsoft apps and twerk it a lil bit..
You should try
the touch sense 2.0 b rom, very fast, energy rom is very slow
The HTC Official 6.5 ROM is the best ROM I've run. Fast, Smooth, Stable. Sure it uses more RAM and has more apps installed by default but who cares if cooked ROMs use less RAM and have less crap on them if they're constantly crashing and not operating properly. No offense to all the brilliant cooks out there, your ROMs are much cleaner and tidier than the default ROMs, but until I see a cooked ROM that doesn't fully drain my battery within 12 hours (every cooked ROM I've used does this) and is bug free, I'll be sticking to the official HTC ROM.

which rom ?

Hello,
i have used 6.5 roms in the past but have had various problems:
A lot of software seemed not fit the screen properly...even after using wvga fix(?).
The battery life was rubbish with a 6.5 rom, no matter what i tried.
I loaded up the stock wm 6.1 for my touch hd and put spb shell 3.5, as well as s2u2(screen lock). My battery time was now well over 3 days for average phone/text use and all my software(tomtom, memory map etc) all fit the screen correctly and i have no problems. BUT, i am the sort of guy who need the latest and greatest(lol) so my question:
Which rom would be the most suitable for my htc touch hd that has great battery time, gets a fast fix for gps and everything fits the screen properly without having to use patches etc ?
Many thanks,
steve.
Supress your need and stay with stock 6.1...
I'm just flashing Blackstone_OrangeUK_1.59.61.2_Radio_52.64.25.34_1.14.25.24_Ship_phone_software.exe
I dont have orange, i have o2 but thanks anyhow, lol

[Q] Looking for a good 6.5.x ROM (manila, stable, fast)

First of all, my google-fu is very weak. Furthermore, the forum search engine apparently hates me, so please don't say anything about research or searching. I've tried and failed spectacularly. Also, I'm something of a newbie, so please be merciful. Thank you.
My old ROM is starting to act up, so I'm looking for a fast and stable Windows Mobile 6.5.x ROM with TouchFlo3D. Other things I can't live without are the long-press End and Call keys and the long-press Power key drop-down menu (like in the Touch X ROMs by smaberg), but if those can be installed afterwards without messing the ROM up, they're not required in the ROM itself.
Also, I never use the Xperia Panels (always delete all the Panel stuff and re-bind the X-Panel key to Nitrogen ), so not having the Panel Manager would be a plus.
I have previously used mainly the Touch X ROMs (I'm a huge fan), but they're not available in 6.5, so I'm willing to experiment with some 6.5 in order to (hopefully) find a new favorite. My current ROM is the Touch X 10.9.1 Nuts, that's the kind of speed and reliability I'm used to.
What I mainly use my Xperia for:
Calling and texting, naturally (VITO SMS-Chat)
Getting up in the morning (ageye G-Alarm)
Music (Nitrogen)
Internet (Opera Mobile 10)
GPS (Google Maps)
Notes (OneNote Mobile)
Movies (Media Player)
I'm going to install all of those by myself, so don't worry about them.
Thanks in advance for any help, guys!
Dynamics 2.0 should satisfy your needs. It's the most stable rom on this forum, at least in my testing.

totally agree, so far Dynamics 2.0 is the best choice.
Dynamics 2.0 seems to have TF3D all right and I can do the long-press keys by myself. I'll surely try Dynamics out.
EDIT: Found the drop-down menu thingy, it's smaberg's Actionscreen.
try one of energy's roms. they are very fast and stable, with a host of customizations.
Whoa, the Energy ROMs seem real nice, thanks for pointing them out! They might take a bit of getting used to, but in the end I think they might be worth it.
Also, while Dynamics 2.0 is probably the stablest of the two (having less modification done and all), which one is the faster one? Anyone have any experience or insight?

frankly speaking Dynamics seems like a rather new ROM (post Jan 2011) and since i 'decommissioned my X1 in Dec as a secondary phone to my Milestone 2, i havent gotten around trying it. however, from my experience of using many other ROMs, i personally found energy's ROMs to be really FAST and STABLE. it shouldnt take much getting used to as its based on the HTC HD2 (with the latest HTC sense).
if you are looking for raw speed, then go for the most basic version with the least applications. i think it should be labeled as sense 2018. however if you wanna save yourself the time from installing programs from nitrogen to opera, go for his sense 2019. and since he has skinned many variants, you can choose the design you like best.
hope it helps. if u really do want, i can try find some time over the weekend to flash the Dynamics ROM and let you know how it is. do let me know anyway.
cheers

you can also check this out. ROMs which do not have TouchFlo or HTC Sense tend to be comparatively faster. though i havent personally tried pure, i heard some pretty good remarks on it.
my advice, if u can, try them both out. Pure and Energy, with and without Sense, and see which suits your personal needs the best.
hope i am helping instead of confusing you. if you need any clarification, do ask.

so sorry for the late reply. just got up from my nightly slumber...lol. anyways, glad to hear im not confusing. i tend to mix up my words sometimes.
oh ryt, i have never gotten any errors while flashing any ROMs but its good u got over it. anyhow, i do hope it is fast enough and stable enough for ur liking. as i said in my opinion of flashing many ROMs i found this the best, and hence the reason why i recommended it to u
do keep me posted on how ur finding it
EDIT: im sorry but i think i might have given you the wrong link for the PURE ROM. its actually Russel's Eclair I was on about. there arent many screenshots on it, but if you do read on you'll know that it is a very minimalistic ROM, which runs on WM6.1/6.5 without sense. and its been skinned like a stock ROM. the beta version i flashed in november was superb. you could give it a try as well.

Well, I'm having slight problems with how complicated the Energy ROM UI is, as well as numerous dead shortcuts and programs failing to start. Also, HTC Sense 2.5 is noticeably slower than TouchFlo3D (which my previous ROM used), so everything doesn't glide as smooth. So I'm not a huge fan, at least not yet. If I can't get this to work like I want, I'll try flashing a different Energy ROM. If that doesn't work, Dynamics 2.0. If that doesn't work... I don't know... Touch X 10.10?

u see how he has skinned different variants? what i have tried was the glass version. its actually very smooth on my phone.
and yes, it might be a little complicated initially, but the more u mess around with your phone, the more you'll learn. as for dead shortcuts and non start ups, check through the thread to see if anybody has the same problems as you. if they do it might be a bug (and the cook might either be working on a fix, or there might already be one).
as i said earlier i havent tried dynamics as its a relatively new ROM. but touch X is considerably slower than energy in opinion, with very regular crashes. in my opinion, using everything from rotastrains to energy, this is by far the best ROM with Sense out there when i tested.
EDIT: if others have not reported the same problem as you, try a hard reset. if that doesnt solve it, ask the cook for advice by posting on the thread. you are sure to get a solution within 24 hours. im sure its just something simple to tweak around
I'm using the Dinik's Anastasia. Some things are infinitely faster than in Touch X, such as opening menus and starting/closing most programs, but others are a crawl, such as switching between the pages of the home screen and opening the start menu. So it's good, but not perfect. So Energy is about as good as Touch X was, although better looking, which the ease-of-use of the Touch X-series compensates for. Although to be honest I'm yet to fully get the hold on Energy, so it might be this grows to be my favorite ROM later on.
I resolved the dead shortcuts. They were actually links to HTC Sense tabs which I had disabled, so the shortcuts just pointed me to the Sense home screen. I'm probably going to hunt down and delete all those shortcuts, because the whole concept of them appears pretty stupid to me. Why have links in the start menu for things that are already displayed as tabs in the normal UI? It's infinitely slower to get to them via start menu...
Anyhow, I'll continue playing around with the ROM. I'm starting to like it...

Why have links in the start menu for things that are already displayed as tabs in the normal UI? It's infinitely slower to get to them via start menu...
Anyhow, I'll continue playing around with the ROM. I'm starting to like it...

well there is no such thing as a perfect custom ROM. all ROMs are plagued with bugs. the reason i recommended Energy in the first place, was because it crashes the least. u wouldnt need to soft reset your phone very much. also it starts up fast, and has amazingly good battery life for what it offers.
im glad to hear u managed to resolve the dead shortcuts. to be frank they didnt really bother me, as on the whole the user experience was what that mattered. and since most functions are accessible via the touch flo interface, you hardly ever need to use the start panel (if the speed bothers you)
Well, I've now set it up almost just like I want, some minor tweaks left, but good enough for now. I'm starting to notice that it is, in fact, faster than Touch X almost in every regard. The stability is slightly worse, but it's not like Energy is prone to crashes. It's still slightly more stable than the ROM the phone came with!
I deleted the whole HTC folder from the start menu and all the useless shortcuts are now gone!
I've still got some games and rarely used programs to install, but they're not important, so I'll do them when I have some extra time.

thats good to hear, though i wouldnt entirely agree on you on the stability front. but its a subjective topic. anyway, enjoy the new ROM, and if u do need any help or advice there's a whole dedicated community here at ur disposal.
cheers
I tried to answer you four times, but each time I got the maintenance/overcapacity "Thank you for your understanding." -message when clicking Post and the forum ate my message.
For me Touch X often crashed when under strain (buffer overflow?) and not otherwise, but Energy crashes at random (when not in use, when opening the virtual keyboard) while not having the same issues Touch X has. So they're equally stabile, just in different ways.
EDIT: Just after posting this, the phone froze when it was charging and the screen was off... -.-
Sorry for double-posting, but this is an update, so I hope it's okay.
I'ma whine a bit. While the Energy ROM initially looked awesome, I'm starting to get sick of all the SODs and freezes it has at least three times a day! Touch X froze or crashed on me that many times a week and never had a single SOD.
Tomorrow or the day after I'll try flashing other versions. If that doesn't work, I'll try Dynamics 2.0.
Also, keep suggesting ROMs!

its quite odd that you have so many crash issues with Energy's ROM. I never had any of those issues u mentioned. Perhaps cuz mine is an older, more stable build. anyways, there is an older ROM by Rotastrain. its called blaze & devilution. brilliant eye candy. however the developer no longer develops for the device anymore, so dont expect any updates or bug fixes. give it a try. its not as fast as Energy's but i do hope it will sort out the crashing issue.

I'm really fond of my current Energy ROM, but it keeps me on my toes all the time because I'm neurotically checking my phone every 15 minutes in case it has another SOD and I don't want to miss any calls because of that. Also, I'm now using another alarm clock besides the phone, because Energy has already SOD'd on me twice during the morning hours before the alarm and I don't want to be late for work.
So, I'll try every single Energy version, variation (well, all the good-looking ones... ) and build until I find one that doesn't have all the SODs and freezes. If all of them have, it's Dynamics 2.0 or Blaze or another ROM up next.
