[Q] upgraded to 2.3.4, Is there any hope 4 root? - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My stupid N1 updated to 2.3.4 via ota. and i lost root
If i follow the wiki, which says downgrade to 2.3.3 and then use super1 click for 2.3.3
Will i be ok?
Can some1 paste the link which has the 2.3.3 file that i can flash as passimg.zip?
I donot wanna flash something wrong and brick my phone (i live in Ind where htc service is minimal)
i have an htc slcd with 0c15 microp
how do i flash Amon_ra recovery? i have had success in flashing the clockworkmod frm Rom manager, Any merits in flashing amon_ra?
thanks guys

Ok well if you look in the wiki at the unroot/restore section then you'll find the passimg file for frg83 use that (there is none for 2.3.3) then just root with superoneclick rageagainstthecage method. The other option you have is to unlock the bootloader then fastboot flash a recovery. Now for flashing Amon RA you can do that from ROM manager as well just flash clockwork mod then reboot and you'll see that the flash alternate recovery is no longer grayed out it says Amon RA 2.2.1 just tap that and you've got Amon. Me personally I prefer Amon RA.

rooting 2.3.4
Hey bro, thanks for the advice
I actually found a GrI40 2.3.3 gingerbread stock on the xda forums, If i copy this 2 the SD card and apply as passimg.zip, will it work?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=968396,
the 1st build actually says its a stock rom which i am happy to use
Also, is there an app on the market before i apply root>?
i hve about 22 apps and would ideally wanna back them up, before downgrading and flashing
can u advise?
thanks again,,,,

Ok well for the file no you can't use that you need a shipment ROM which come from leaks, the file you found will only work if you flash it from recovery if your rooted or from fastboot if your bootloader is unlocked. As far as backups go the best option without root access is mybackup pro.

And "your stupid N1" did not update itself. The phone is not stupid...

must have happened by mistake
there is no frigging way i updated 2 gingrbrd when i was happily rooted
so itsw stupid

Yes YOU did.
If it makes you feel better to blame the phone for your stupidity then so be it.

Why can't you unlock the bootloader? Why are so, many people afraid to unlock the, damn bootloader? I don't get it.... Just unlock it, flash recovery, flash su, reboot... Profit???? Done. Simple.

bootloader unlock
Babydoll
thx 4 ur advice sir !
Thats one option i have thot off , 2 unlock loader n then flash recovery
But i live in ind ,where N1 cant be serviced and unlocking bootloader
also screws it warranty
Can i dwngrade to 2.3.3 using the GRI40 2.3.3 rom which is avail on on our forums. and then root with super1click?
Once again thx 4 ur advice
Albundy 2010 -if u think ur the only intelligent guy and feel ur superior, i have not seen that kinda stupidity ,thx

I don't think that at all. Just letting you know that it's your fault the phone updated. Don't blame the "stupid" phone for your actions. Just another case of a smart phone - stupid user.

ok thanx 4 the feedback
now that u given ur stupid lecture about "stupidity", can u actually lemme no if its possible 2 downgrade with Stock GrI40 avail on our forums,
Few say its possible and few say it cant
I d like 2 dwngrade 2 use super1click on 2.3.3 which i believe is possible

Yes it is possible. You need to use the passing.zip method to go back to a froyo. You can than root/install a custom recovery from there and flash a rom.
You can also install the OTA's up until 2.3.3 Root that/install custom recovery. Then flash the update to 2.3.4 from custom recovery and without rebooting flash su to keep root.

o super!!!!!, i alrdy have the FRG33 renamed as passimg.zip on sd
But is it possible 2 go directly to GRI40 2.3.3?????[/B], which is stock gingerbrd
thats 1 doubt i hve been Having 4 a long time!!!!
whch is nippier than Froyo
I just dont want to apply 2.3.3 and then brick my device without expert advice
thx again 4 the assist

Yes!
Root FRG33, then manually apply the updates from recovery and flash the su zip over them. Do not reboot the phone, or you will lose the recovery and will have to start again...

OMG, this thread is still going?
Do yourself a big favor:
Go read Wiki, rooting guide, unlock bootloader method.
Execute fastboot oem unlock.
Then flash whatever recovery you like.
Then flash whatever ROM you like. Stock, not stock, 2.3.4, 120312.12974.0935789, whatever.
And if you're not ready for it - then go use your phone as it is, and don't think about rooting until you are. The most important part being - ready to learn to RTFM (google that, if you don't know what it is).
It's the 4th thread you open for help within less than 4 days. That clearly says something.

+1 Jack
The ONLY way to brick a nexus one is when a radio flash goes bad in recovery. Which is why I will only flash radios via fastboot. NOTHING else will do it. Except for physical issues with the phone like water or bad sectors etc.

[Q] Help with rooted N1 wont take OTA 2.2.1 update

Hey everyone,
I rooted my nexus one when it was 2.2, now im trying to update to 2.2.1. However the OTA update wasnt taking, it failed and the installation aborted everytime. I search forums and found one saying to factory reset my phone, which i did. Saved everything with titanium backup. Now im stuck with:
Firmware: 2.1-update1
Kernal version:2.6.29-01117-g4bc62c2 android-build apa26#1
Build nuumber: EPE76
One problem is i do not get an OTA update to upgrade to 2.2 or 2.2.1. Also i did a manual update with signed-passion-FRF50-from-ERE27.1e519a24.zip and it fails and installation aborts. How can i get back to at least 2.2, but preferably 2.2.1.
Also when trying to restore my apps from titanium backup, it tells me my phone is not rooted, but I still see the little "padlock" unlocked when i boot my phone.
Thanks, hope someone can help
John
What recovery are you using?
fastboot, then recovery, used a zip i downloaded from another forum that gave me build epe76. just renamed it to undate.zip and let the phone do the work.
What recovery are you using? Stock? Clockworkmod? Amon_RA?
i guess just stock, all i do is fastboot the phone and hit recovery
Have you tried ROM Manager?
yes but i am getting an error that my phone is not rooted. Although it is, the padlock is open when i boot the phone. If I root it again will i be able to install 2.2?

There you go.
Unlocking the phone is one thing. Rooting is another. You need to root it over again, but it should be easier this time since you do not need to unlock your bootloader.
ok i will try but before i do should i upgrade to 2.2 or 2.2.1 first then root it again? Because that was my problem originally, i rooted it when it was 2.2 and could not get do the OTA update to 2.2.1 to work the installation aborted with an error every time.
No, root the phone first. Then you can put whatever the hell ROM you want.
It's like putting your pants on first, then your shoes.
Yeah root first cuz most of the custom rom already jumps to 2.2.1

Also, if you root first, you can make a full backup before doing anything else...

[Q] Samsung i9000T (Telstra Australia): Custom ROM

Hi Guys
New here so please be gentle...
I have a stock Telstra Samsung i9000T with Eclair 2.1 update 1 firmware and I'm wanting to flash to a new ROM from Doc's Kitchen. I currently have confirmed recovery and download (2e) but was told I need to gain 3e recovery and download before flashing to my new ROM. I have rooted the phone and backed up everything including /efs folder. My question is this: Can I use the latest SpeedMod Froyo K13B kernel to gain 3e recovery and download or is it exclusively for Froyo ROMs only - not my Eclair?
Matthew
do you think you could do me a favour first please mate?
i am in desperate need of the telstra ROM, could you enter recovery and make a backup of your ROM then upload it please
also, i dont think you can flash roms with 3e, you need 2e, you can use ODIN to flash speedmod kernal to get a really good one
thanks!
Certainly mate, I'll be sure to do that for you before I flash it this evening. This what I was told to do to get my new ROM on the phone:
1. z4root
2. mybackup root -> backup stuff
3. find sgs tools over at xda; it has a script in it to backup /efs (IMEI) for you
4. copy everything from /sdcard to PC (this will include the mybackup files and the efs backup created by sgs tools)
5. copy new rom .zip to sdcard
6. phone fully charged
7. install speedmod kernel as per http://touristinparadise.blogspot.com/2010/11/samsung-galaxy-s-how-to-install.html; see also http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=822756 if you want more info or alternative downloads
8. sim & internal sd out if you are being paranoid
9. reboot into recovery; apply zip from sdcard, select zip -> select your cooked rom
10. first boot will take about 5 minutes
I'm currently at no. 6 in readiness for speedmod kernel
that would be good if you could do that, you would save my ass lol, i need it for warranty, telstra are cracking the ****s!
here is what i did.
if your 2.1.
root using z4root, download rom manager, install recovery mode, then apply the ROM you wish ( ps, after you have updated your stuff ofcourse )
i would be very thankful if you would get that telstra ROM for me, will greatfully buy you a beer!
Sure thing mate and thanks for the heads-up I'll send you a PM once I've gotten the 2.1 done.
thanks mate, appreciate it heaps!.
will be waiting patiently, then i can get my damn phone fixed, stupid internal memory shat itself

OK few pointers..
if all goes tits up, don't worry try these
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11470507&postcount=79
This is also from the same thread :-
2e was the first type of recovery screen and 3e is its replacement on a firmware upgrade to Froyo but it has limitations so you can't just flash update.zip in it and get it to work like on 2e. Though ClockworkMOD does work and once your in that you can do anything.
And maybe use the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=934409 to get a quicker answer, worked for me an others
Thank you so much guys I really appreciate the assistance
@ aussiesausage: I still haven't forgotten you mate, just getting the rugrats off to bed.
Edit: Links to Stock Telstra FW and CSC sent via PM
heh thankyou so very much dude!
phone is still stuffed, but now telstra will stop *****in at me

Any chance you could pass this onto me mate? I'm in a similar situation, i9000T speaker has died and of course Telstra aren't going to like repairing it without the original rom.
-SlimLegs
It would be much appreciated if you could also send me the link as well. I didnt make a back-up before i flashed my first ROM. Had a few scares flashing, so would like to keep a copy for an emergency
Hey PV5150, I was wondering if you would please be kind enough to also post a copy of your stock 2.1. I've been searching, and can't get my hands on a clean version.
any chance one of you guys could send me the file and i'll link it for all of us other poor buggers on telstra, has taken me ages to find someone who has it.
Yes please.
sorry to bring old hread up but has anyone got the links
i have been searching for ages
I would appreciate it if you could send me the link.
In the same situation had to buy another galaxy s telstra refused to repair because wasnt there ROM, i also need this 2.1 update ROM. Same issue as one of the other guys, internal memory card is bust. Love the phone couldnt find this rom anywhere so gave up and bought another phone lol

How to recover recovery

Hi,
I used RomManager to flash the ClockWorkRecovery.
How do I get back to the stock recovery after I updated to Gingerbread?
instal a stock rom! : p
why do you want the stock recovery anyway?
Sent from my Nexus One
If you are on a stock ROM the custom recovery will automatically be overwritten by the stock recovery when you reboot.

You need to be root. Im still trying to figure out how. SOC doesnt work on 2.3.3, and ive never used any other method. If someone can help. Pls do so. Us noobs need to be root too
None of the existing methods seem to work on the update. The only way so far is to flash the root package after installing the update, but before rebooting.

Hi, I would like to update to Gingerbread but I am trying to find out how I can recover the recovery ROM if I do this so that I don't void my warranty, and would like to know how to do this before I do anything.
I am a little confused by your answer. When you say 'stock ROM' are you referring to the Android OS ROM or the recovery ROM? I need to either downgrade my recovery ROM from 3e to 2e or put clockwork on my phone so that I can install the new OS.
Thanks,
A

Necro'd this thread with a post asking a question about the Galaxy S. Not even the Nexus S. Fail.

i9000m root and flash questions (been awhile since i was here)

hey guys! its been awhile since i been here my Brother wants his Galaxy S rooted and flashed to a different firmware!
i searched around but cant really find any info on the i9000m model. Hes running 2.2 i9000UGKC1 ( i believe that is the newest update)?
so what are my first steps to gain root? then flash? maybe a point to a root tutorial then a post to a flash tutorial for the i9000M would be handy, i just cant seem to find them haha, been so long since i was here. So can anyone give me the down low on how the mods are going and things needed to get root and flash?
thanks guys
Bump! any one here? im reading that root is possible for the i9000m but flashing might not be? im confused.... is it still odin used to flash and unlock the bootloader to flash new roms?
i've got an i9000m and rooted with SuperOneClick, then once rooted flashed speedmod kernel with Odin. No problemo.
Just make sure before you do anything that you can access Download mode and Recovery Mode via the '3-button' method ie. turn off then hold power/home/vol down (or up) respectively.
been busy since so haven't yet tried a custom rom, but yes, you can root and flash an i9000m!

and which guide are you talking about to flash custom roms? there seems to be alot...for i9000m
so im reading that i can root with superoneclick
then afterwards i can flash CWM Recovery with Rom Manager? and start flashing roms right? without ODIN?
thats how i used to do it on a htc phone, does it work same with i9000m?

Bump anyone inform me as if this is correct? with the i9000UGKC1 firmware?
Bump, want my information verified, dont want to screw up my brothers phone haha
hey sorry i haven't checked in in awhile either - don't know if it still helps but i rooted with KC1 2.2. then flashed speedmod kernel (only realised afterwards could have just flashed the kernel and used it to root - rooted initially with superoneclick).
been super busy but now have a bit more time to look at more developments - just basic stuff like going to GB, maybe a new kernel and start looking at other ROMs again.

[Q] Question about getting Clockworkmod Recovery On SGT T-Mobile

I'm not a noob to phone flashing as I had a G1 from day 1 and have had numerous other HTC android devices since etc, just very new to tablet and with what im reading here, it's more complicated to flash roms on a tablet (or any samsung device for that matter) then on a phone. With a phone you just root, flash s-off or a new recovery, slap a rom on the SD card and flash it from clockworkmod or amon ra and blam, you are done. (hate the whole rom manager thing). Basically what im asking is what are the steps to get the tab ready to flash a rom. is it similar to a phone Root, recovery, rom? or is it different for each rom.
So far I've rooted using the noob root guide. I'm still on the original T-mobile stock firmware. I'm looking to get clockworkmod recovery flashed so i can start playing with all the wonderful rom's here. From what I have gathered...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=925760
Is this the only way to accomplish this as of right now?
I've checked to make sure im unlocked. im on stock 2.2. If I flash this using the odin instructions will it achieve what i'm looking for?
The rom I want to flash is the new 2.3.4 rom and the upcoming honeycomb rom. I might even try out overcome as well.
Thanks for any help in clarifying the process!
