I don't know what I did (maybe install something) but now my proximity sensor on my HD7 is out of whack. When I do a call it almost instantly goes to black even if it isn't next to my face or anything else. And it won't go back to the regular screen until after the call is over. (Yes I've tried pushign the button on the top of the phone). The phone has worked for months just fine, but a couple weeks ago I noticed this new behavior.
I've tried finding the right ## code to get to these settings but I can't find the one that works with the HD7.
I've tried calling T-Mobile support too, all they said is to hard reset my phone. Which I'd rather not do. Especially if it is a simple setting that can be adjusted.
Thanks
htc hd 7 proximity sensor problem
Hii, l have the same problem but l have not solve it yet.did you solve your problem? Can you help me about this topic.thanks...
I had it number of times in my case hardware issue.
To fix. Take battery out, clean the two sensors on top of screen left to htc logo. Clean properly with washing up liquid as water or finger did not work. Dry it up with phone off for about 1h and presto.
I always trigger the fault on hot day or rainy day.

Hello. I've had this device for awhile now and it's probably the best phone I've ever had.. except I started to have problems with regards to calls just recently. I actually rooted the device about 2 months ago and am currently using the Rombie mod v2 (JPC), if that helps. Anyway, the problem happens in the middle of a conversation, where the proximity sensor somehow disappears and the speaker mode is activated on its own (or maybe it gets in contact to my skin, I'm not sure, since the screen is supposed to remain blank). After that, the device becomes unresponsive: the touch sensitive menu and back keys don't work, and neither does the screen itself..but the hard key home button works and I could still hear the other caller via loudspeaker. I force a reset and everything goes back to normal (I mean this call issue doesn't happen all the time). I don't have any screen protector to affect the performance of the sensor. Anyone can help me out with this? Thanks!
Folks,
I am new to touchscreen based smartphones and HD7 is my first. So please be soft on me.
Here is my problem when using the HD7. When i am on a call, if i keep the phone close to my ear/face the phone automatically ends the call due to my ear touching the screen/end call button. Is this how touchscreen supposed to work?
I thought there will be a proximity sensor to turn of touchscreen when keeping near the ear/face.
Please help if there is a easy way out of this.
The screen should turn off when it gets close to your face. Try making a call and hovering your hand near the earpiece to test. If the screen doesn't turn off the proximity sensor may be faulty. I would look into getting the phone replaced.
the sensors are in the upper left corner of the display, just past the HTC logo on the TmoUS model, about 3 or 4 cm from the arc in the glass
Thanks for the reply. I did check the sensor and it does work. For some odd reason (may be its just me new to touchscreen phones), i accidentally end up the call when my ear/face touches it. It might be due to the fact that i tend to keep the phone tiny bit away from my face/ear to avoid skin /hair grease and that causes the sensor to not work?
Anyway, i will play with it for couple of days and see how it goes.
I have replaced the lcd/digitizer on my htc sensation xl and my proximity sensor has stopped working. Every time i make calls it goes to a black screen and sometimes the battery needs to be removed just to get it to turn back on. i was wondering if there was a way to disable the sensor through the software? or completely replace it?
anyone??

i once had the issue with screen protector on, but once i took it off, it worked fine.
definitely gotta be the screen's problem, it has nothing to do with softwares.
maybe you can try this app to disable the prox sensor http://www.androidzoom.com/android_applications/tools/proximity-screen-off_pjwz_download.html
if the app works for u, rmb not to touch the screen when u are making a call.

ok ,i will try this app and i will see if the phone respond positively .
I have a HTC Sensation XL and have also found the same issue when replacing the screen, both the speaker and Proximity sensor stopped working. After looking around for a while i found the comments on this site from a guy that obviously has come across the issue often:
psytechrepairs.tumblr.com/page/6
It sounds like a common occurrence that they fail with a screen replacement. I've also found that the light sensor and proximity sensor seem to both be on the same removable replaceable board (some sell it as a light sensor & others sell as a proximity sensor but they are both together):

Hope this helps.
I know this is an old thread however I have found a solution which i would like to share.
When replacing the lcd the way to fix the proximity sensor is to cover BOTH parts of the proximity sensor with Scotch tape and color the Scotch tape with a black Sharpie felt-tip pen.
works 100%
Hi,
sorry for posting here after so much time, but I have a problem. I smashed my display and ordered myselve a new one. Once I have changed it, the phone looked like everything is working just fine. Than I noticed that my Google Play Store is crashing, and a few apps were on my phone that I have deleted months ago.
My phone is ROOTED!!!
I decided to flash it again, the problem with crashing Play Store was solved.
After I realized my phone is acting crazy, first when I call someone the display goes black, and I cannot hang up or something. It looks like the proximity sensor failure. And even worse, sometimes the phone acts just like someone was using it, it writes opens apps, just like when someone is using the phone.
Any ideas???
Hi,
I just got my XZ a few days ago and experience only one issue: When doing a call the display turns off immediately, but when I put the phone away it's still off and doesn't turn on again. Service menu says the proximity sensor is turned on.
Anyone else with this problem and maybe the solution?

Most of the time with proximity sensor not functioning is because some Screen Protector is blocking it.
Make sure your custom screen protector isn't blocking it first, then if it still doesn't work properly maybe it's a hardware failure, should contact SONY then....
If it's the sensor or the screen protector (which has cut outs for the sensor), then why does it turn off the screen correctly the moment it put the phone to my ear?
It was the screen protector. Strange, other people don't have any issues with it.
So sorry Sony, your are great
Might be a little bit late, but maybe for others
worked pretty well on my Samsung S4.
download the app "proximity fix" from the playstore and run it.
Job done.
Hope that helps you or anyone who stumbles upon this!
Hello everyone
I have p20 Pro and I live in Syria
My fingerprint broke a year ago and that's not my problem
A week ago suddenly my phone didn't ring
It shows the notification that I have a call and when I try to answer I can't like someone is touching the screen and when I put my finger on the finger print.. Every thing goes back to normal
And here no one knew how to change the fingerprint sensor or just disconnecting it
I just want a method I can disable the sensor
I don't want it anymore and no one is doing it for me in my country
So please if there is anyway I can disconnect it using some commands or something
Thank you sooo much
I heated the fingerprint on the front side of the phone and took it off
I cut the wire connecting it to thedevice
And now everything went back to normal
Modern problems require modern solutions ???
