Hey,
I want to install a custom ROM..
I've rooted the phone and installed ClockworkMod (recovery).
I booted into recovery mode and tried to wipe all. That worked.
I copied the ROM file to an external SD-Card (The SD-Card is not empty), but it don'f find the sdcard???
I get the message: "unable to mount /sdcard"
Anyway, isn't that the internal sd-card?
How to go on?
shut down you phone
then startit by pressing and HOLDING both power & volume down (untill you see android in text on your screen)
that usually works.
if it doesnt, remove backcover and hardplug your sd card (remove it and put it back in)
Haha!
Im a newbie
It worked Thanks a lot!
Kind of funny to play with this stuff
Hello,
after the reboot to the ClockworkMod i give this error:
Installing: /sdcard/_ExternalSD/update-cm-7.1.0-RC1-Optimus2X-signed.zip
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
E: Can't open /sdcard/_ExternalSD/update-cm-7.1.0-RC1-Optimus2X-signed.zip

Any idea?
Dont use the update function, look a bit more down i think its called install zip or something.
You did use rom manager from the market right?
If this is what you did make a backup and try reformatting your sd
I have the same problem every now and then
Sent from my Optimus 2X using XDA App
What is important is the version of CWM. If you use 3.2.x.x version, the external SDcard is the only that can be used.
If you use 4.0.0.x, you must verify wich version you used, there is one version that can mount only internal SDCard and one that can mount only external one.
See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1098745
Not sure what version of CWM I have, but it worked by holding down power button and vol. down.
It also helped to plug it out and then in again...The sd-card

Just got my color nook today.
Trying to get my nook color up and running on a custom rom. But I am lost, there appears to be quiet a few ways to start and I am not sure the best and most updated method.
So as of now I am not rooted, pretty much pulled it out and charged it, I checked and its running 1.1.0 out of the box.
I'm going for the Phiremod rom, and I want to boot from internal memory not SD card.
Would really appreciate some links to what I need.
Thanks
lost just lost
so i ended up using autonooter
then made a sd card with clockworkmod on it
installed clockwork mod, installed a zip just like i would on a phone
and .... no go it wont boot to android just back to clockworkmod, what am i doing wrong?
also getting an error in clockwork
"E:can't mount /cache/recovery/log"
"E:can't open /cache/recovery/log"
"E:can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log"
"E:can't open /cache/recovery/last_log"

The errors are normal; since you don't have any cache or its not mounted.
You burned a CWM image on a SD card and installed the Phiremod rom from his Zip file in CWM?
Then you only have to remove the sd-card while in CWM and then choose 'reboot device' (first option in main menu) (sometimes you get back in CWM but reboot a couple of times and it should boot Phiremod CM7 off the emmc.)
(if the Nook finds a bootloader on the SD card, it'll load that instead of the internal emmc memory. )
too used to phones
hey thanks so much for the reply
that would have solved the problem, but i was running cwm on internal and using a different sd card
found out what was wrong, i was doing the wipes like you would on the phone
i.e. wipe data/factory reset and cache there
(instead of from inside mounts and storage)
finally up and running after 4 hours haha
thanks again
Just flashed a new 1.1.0 to CM7; no need for autonooter if you're going custom ROM straight off.
1. Download the SDCard-bootable CWM. Burn to MicroSD with WinDiskImage32 (needs to be run as Admin for block-level access if you get write errors)
2. Drop on your ROM .zip of choice.
3. Drop on the gapps .zip
4. Eject, insert into Nook, boot up.
5. TAKE A BACKUP. This is your 'oh crap' restore point.
6. Install zip from SD; install ROM. Do the same, install gapps. Wipe cache and data.
7. Remove MicroSD, boot NC. If it works, format the MicroSD card in your computer as FAT32 (after copying off your backup, under the clockworkmod directory), insert into NC, good to go. If it bombs out, redo step 4-7, skipping 5.
If you can't get it to load, boot from MicroSD and restore your backup. No harm, no foul. Keep a copy of this 'gold' backup on your computer. I forgot to do this and ended up blowing my original away when I reformatted my MicroSD.
Update your kernel
Keep up to date with Dalingrin's latest kernel, he keeps pushing the overclocking to new heights every few days it seems

Hi all,
I have SGS i9000 from PlusGSM. It's rooted. Today i'v installed ROM Manager. I cooked "my" ROM, downloaded it - JV5_No_Wipe-v6-20-19-25-21-06-4e00e0a7e252b.zip - and saved on internal card (mounted in /sd on my phone).
I tried to:
1. Create backup of current rom and flash ROM from SD card via ROM Manager
2. Just flash from SD card.
I tried to fix privileges and then do 1 and 2.
I also tried to remove external sd card and repeat 1/2.
I always get after rebooting into recovery mode:
-- Install from package...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
E:Can't open /cache/update.zip
(bad)
Installation aborted.
I thought about using manual "update" in recovery mode but then, it looks for
/sdcard/update.zip (not /sd/update.zip) so i assume naming file as update.zip in /sd would give me nothing.
I suppose my problem is trivial but it's my first attempt to flash my SGS with a custom ROM and I cannot find good answer that would lead me to the solution (http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-1060352.html).
Thank you for your patience.I appreciate any suggestions,
You don't need RomManager to flash updates. You just need a CWM enabled kernel and then you can flash romkitchen directly from recovery.
I would suggest you install hardcore-s kernel using Heimdall or Odin. Altough CFRoot is also good and has CWM.
RomManager is supposed to be a frontend to CWM, but it did not work for me and I heard that it sometimes fails on the SGS.
I found some similar threads but I'm a total noob with all of this. I'm hoping someone could help me out here using laymen terms (not even really sure what you guys mean when you say to "flash the zip").
I used autonooter 3.0 awhile back without knowing that clockwork recovery was also included with it. I wanted to restore back to stock and just have it back to factory settings. I foolishly tried to reboot 8 times thinking that it would revert back to factory settings, however now it gets stuck in the ClockworkMod Recovery v.3.0.0.5 everytime I boot up the nook. I saw one of the threads mention to use CWR removal zip, so I placed that on my sdcard, inserted it into my nook and tried to "install zip from sdcard" from CWR, but it keeps saying "Can't mount /sdcard/update.zip". I'm at the point where I'm completely stuck and frustrated as I can't use my nook and having trouble deciphering some of the threads here. Could someone please help with a walkthrough? Thank you so much!
Flash the zip refers to the option available on CWR (or using ADB, but nevermind that for now). You use the sound keys to go up and down, the N for enter and the power for back (if memory serves me correctly).
Also in CWR you have different options to format /data /system /cache and a bit more.
All you need is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=914690
You can start by doing only part 2, which is to put the zip file in a uSD (root is fine, as you have to navigate to it), boot up your nook, flash that zip, and format chache partition and dalvik cache (have a look on the options of each menu in CWR). Then do the 8 times and see if it works. If not, move to doing part 1 also.
Also, read this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=943956
and use the search feature of the forums. Keep reading, everything will start to make sense soon!
Thanks so much for your help. I tried adding the zip file to my sdcard, but trying to install that part is where I'm getting stuck. I'm selecting "install zip from sdcard, choose zip from sdcard" from CWM, but it keeps saying that it "failed to mount /sdcard, can't mount sdcard". I assumed that I needed to go to mounts and storage and select "mount /sdcard" but it just gives me an error mounting sdcard message. Same with selecting "format sdcard". Any other suggestions?
Unless you got the AN 3.0 image from a source other than the original thread in this forum, clockworks recovery was not installed from using AN 3.0. You, or someone else, had to go into the “ROM Manager” app and manually select to install it.
To fix the problem, go HERE and make yourself a bootable ClockworkMod SD card. Once you have made the card, put the CWM remover zip on the SD card. Turn off your NC, and then boot the device with the bootable CWM card. Then you need to install the CWM remover zip.
This worked like a charm. Thank you GM and Gun! Totally made my day.
Hi. I've been pulling my hair out for over 4 hours now.
I boot into clockworkmod, choose install from zip, I can see the .zip but everytime I choose it the phone refuses to install it and gives me an error about cannot mount /sd/ or something similiar. From there the SD card cannot be found until i restart the phone.
Ive cleared all caches, done a factory reset..
The rom and phone works like it should except that I of course cant mount my phone with the sdcard while booted into GingerDX.
I've tried using two different SD cards and one of them is brand new (i just opened it because of this error). I've formatted both cards via a usbadapter on my computer and the only thing on them is the update file.
Every zip i try to update gives me the error that the card cannot be mounted even though the phone finds the different zipfiles on my card. And every time after i get the error the SD card cannot be found until I restart my phone.
Please help me, Ive spent hours searching on this problem but the only one who had this problem and got it fixed got it because he had his phone plugged in via usb while he was trying to update.
This is the error message I get.
-- Installing /sdcard/update-rom-chargemon+vold-alfskernel .zip

E:Can't mount /sdcard/update-rom-chargemon+vold-alfskernel .zip

Just tried reflashing the Alfs kernel as well. Didn't work.

I have nothing to backup but as I said I've tried 2 different cards and formatted them both atleast 5 times each.
WOW! I think I solved it. I flashed the nAa kernel which just made my phone not start at all, the screen just turns on but nothing happened. Then I reinstalled v6 of Alfs kernel. But this time I booted into CWM by tapping back instead of tapping the screen (I was actually trying to get into xrecovery). There my first sdcard didnt mount at all so I put in the second one, chose the .zip, got a "are you sure bla bla" screen, pressed yes and it FINALLY flashed.
This is a really weird error..

you could not have 2 recovery at once by costum kernel. you must use the recovery in the kernel.
I haven't done anything but whipe my phone, install alfs custom kernel and GingerDX. I haven't installed anything else. Wierd error that starting CMW by pressing back instead of touching the screen lets you actually flash the update.
Hi guys, i was trying to find a solution and i think i made it. It's not that everything is connected but it did work for me.
What i did:
1. settings/application settings/ unknown sources - ON
2. settings/application settings/Development
- usb debugging - ON
- USB debugging notify -ON
- Allow mock locations - ON
3. Reboot in CWM recovery
- go to mount and storage (important!!)
- mount /sdcard
- go back, install zip from Sdcard
- choose zip from sdcard, find it and install it!!
That's it!

This happened to me a few times. On your SD card make sure you have "clockworkmod" folder all lowercase. Inside that folder there should be a "backup" folder. You need this folder for CWM to work
I've encountered the same problem as OP. sdcard wont mount. I installed the CWM v3.2.0.0-r3 via this script so I tap the screen to enter CWM but the back key opens xRecovery so solution in #5 doesn't apply.
Tried a different card, reply #9, cleared cache and data. Nothing seems to help so far.
Solved by flashing SE2.1 kernel back, installing recovery tools from x8toolbox this time and it let me go ahead with the rest.
Hello I am trying to update my current nightly of the CM12 (apr7th) to the latest (apr9th).
I tried from the default About phone > Cyanogenmod updates and also via CyanDelta.
In both cases I get a very weird errors, in the Recovery (CWM).
Via CyanDelta I get:
Waiting for SD Card to mount (20s)
SD Card mounted
Verifying SD card marker
SD card marker not found
Error processing the ROM manager script
Via About phone > Cyanogenmod updates it says:
E: unknown volume for path [@/cache/recovery/block.map]
E: Can't mount @/cache/recovery/block.map
Installation aborted.
This is very weird since the HTC one does not have an SD card slot.
My phone is rooted and the bootloader is unlocked and all those sweet things.
Thank you.
Same issue, can not flash any ROM...:crying::crying:
This happened to me once. I don't remember exactly what I did. I think I ended up flashing a stock RUU. Changing the recovery might also work. If you find the solution, please post it here.
