[Q] Icon text grey oval background removal - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey,
I'm looking for a way how to delete those ugly greyish oval backgrounds (or shadows) behind the icon text on homescreen. I know that some launchers already has it (TW 4.5 by Fr4gg0r), but I want to go with stock TW 3.0 launcher, because Fr4gg0r's is too slow and not really stable. I use slightly modified TW 3.0 Stock+, which is included in Simplicity 1.6.
It reduces the length of the text to one line. I also saw few launchers with the background deleted, but the text still shortened on one line. So I don't want that.
I want it to look like this on the right, not on the left:
img232.imageshack.us/img232/5285/sc20110629133850.png
(left: TW 3.0, right: TW 4.5 by Fr4gg0r)

Any ideas please?

I don't believe that noone knows the answer.

I browsed the .png files in the .apk, but I didn't noticed any files which belongs to the text background. I thought I'd just make it transparent so it would disappear, but the text would be still shortened.
Any idea, where the .png could be?

[REQUEST] Transparent Icon Label Backgrounds

Is it possible to change the icon label backgrounds on sense ui to transparent?
Specifically for sprint hero?
thanks
Yes, it is possible.
You can recolor all Icons of Hero.
But it's lot of work. I'll try it some times, but still didn't like it.
If you can play with Gimp and 7-Zip and have any time, you could try it.
The original Icons are black at background. You can make the black background transparent.
But then it looks awful.

this gave me an idea, but i was wondering when you say alot of work, are you saying you have to do each icon seperatly? or is there a common one in the framework and then the widgets to add on?
thanks!
I think, we talk about the Icons above at the Bar with WiFi, Network e.g.
Or? If not, i must say sorry.
This icons are very very small *.png
Man of the icons are in the framework-res, some others are in the apps, too.
I want to do it, did about 20 icons. Now, I don't feel like to do it.
It's an awful and tiny work.
oh alright thanks, i thought he ment the icons on the 7 home page never mind!
I am talking about the regular icons, like browser or camera
oh lol wow sorry, well yes its possible, iv seen 1x1 wigets with the transparent background, but the rest of the icons had the grey/black background...
im assuming that every app developer doesnt have to make it or add it in so it must be in the framework.. il look through quickly see if i can find it
no luck sorry, but yes its definitely possible
Sorry for that! ;-)
This is definately possible.
Ahome is a program that allows you to do this and even change to any colour you want.
Just a simple process I beleive, it's a shame we couldn't take the Ahome application without having to use the whole program as it replaces your desktop a bit lke GDE.

[Q] Changing launcher foreground

Trying to customize the bottom ("launcher"?, you know, it has "phone", + and the app list) on htc sense (for now). I've made the background for the launcher transparent but now I want to get rid of the text "Phone". I can't find any image in either framework-res.apk or com.htc.resources.apk that correspond with those foreground icons.
How do I go about changing them? Am I just looking at the wrong set of images or is it time to get into some scripting/layout editing?
And, a much more important question, what's the best resource for me to go about solving future problems like this on my own? Searches don't really turn up good resources (ie, a description of what each folder contains, where to find status bar resources, etc). I'm a rather independant learner but this particular platform is leaving me a little on my knees.

[Q] [MIUI] Preventing resizeing icons in customized_icons_1

I have found many topics on Icons, but none that expalin how to prevent to auto-create icons resized and with background in customized_icons_1
I know that I can extract the original icon from an app and overwrite the image in the dir customized_icons_1, but I would like to avoid doing so for each app.
I whould like to prevent MIUI generating resized app icon instead of original icon.
Can anyone would help me doing so?
Thank you in advance for your kind reply.
Not sure about MIUI's inner workings but, the Dark White theme seems to have no background image. You could just apply its icons.
Thanks deejaylobo
I am looking to be able to modify the rules how MIUI generate 3rd party icons to put in customized_icons_1icon directory, however.
The dark white seems to work but it still decide to use some icons instead of others.
I'll try to explore how it's made...
Thanks in any case
Partially solved
I've partially solved the background problem.
I've overwritten the file icon_background.png inside the archive data/system/theme/icons and pushed back to phone.
Than I've wiped the customized_icons_1 folder.
Reboot.
Now the icons are really wonderfull.
I still didn't find a way to avoid the slight resize of the icon MIUI generate inside customized_icons_1, But with the semitrasparent new background + border seems to look very good.
In any case, if somebody knows how to avoid the risezeing ? would appeciate to know ...
See you.
Try to install android 2.3 icon theme, and icons in MIUI Launcher should look normal.

Disable themed icons in CM7 themes?

I found a nice black and white theme but I absolutely loathe themed icons. First of all, since not every single icon is themed (there is always some odd program that does not get themed), second, I'm used to the standard look of icons and when all of them are square and monochrome I can't tell what's what, third and most importantly, when only some are themed and others aren't it just looks like crap.
So, is there some way to use a theme but not have it reskin the icons?
I can't believe I'm the only one who doesn't like when themes also change the icons for default programs.
Try using a stock adw theme, like a stock gingerbread theme or something. Thats what I do when I don't like the icons that come with a Cyanogenmod theme.

Icon size on HTC One

I had a bit of a search on the web and xda developers, but can't seem to find what im looking.Tryung to find out what the stock icon sizes are for the htc one on Jellybean 4.2.2?I would like to add ios 5.1.1/6 icons (120x120) over the top of my exsisting apps, but i dont want to run launchers or different roms, very happy with 4.2.2and Sense 5.Please be gentle, this is my first Android phone, and still trying to get my head around things
Cheers

72x72 & 144x144 .. In apks they seem to be 72x72 but they won't change unless you decompile and sign them from my personal experience. In some of the framework files, the icons for system apps such as calendar, camera, phone etc, they're 144x144.
This isn't concrete as far as where each size dwells but they are the two sizes I've come across for apps.
So if i were able to put the 120x120 aplle icons over android apps, would it end up looking weird,as in weird shadows under the icons, etc?

What do you mean putting them over android apps? You'd obviously have to replace them and if I were you I'd resize them to be the same dimensions but it shouldn't matter that much as it's not like ****ty Apple with their stupid masks that leave a black shadow around Icons, especially noticeable when using non-square icons.
The one thing to note is that if you plan to change the icons for things like camera, phone, gallery etc, the icons are 72x72 in the app but 144x144 in htc.resources.apk. If you don't make the icons the same sizes then you will end up with tiny icons on your homescreen but normal ones on the lockscreen. For example, if you change the phone icon then you have to put a 144x144 icon in htc.resources.apk otherwise it won't be the correct size.
