VZ Galaxy Tab!!! - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm guessing that the verizon has the bootloader locked? Because when I go into cwm there is no option to choose sd card or advanced option, please help me out with this issue

VZ tablet
Are you using the Verizon Tab Bootstrapper from the market? It will give you the option to install a rom from the sd card.

[Q] Update to Cognition V2.3b6 Sim card won't work

Good evening. Yes I am a n00b when it comes to Android. I have been trying to install the latest 2.2 rom from Cognition, V2.3b6. I have a Samsung Captivate. I get it to install fine except I have no phone. I get no bars and no 3G indicators. I go to status and it says I have no phone #, doesn't know network, etc. It appears it's not seeing the sim card?
I'm using Rom-Manager Clockwork mod to do the install.
Anyone have an idea what I am doing wrong? I have just used Odin 3 one-click to restore to factory (again) and saw I did not have a sim card installed and I've just powered down, reinstalled SIM and I get my 3G indicator and my full signal bars.
Help. I'm nervous about trying to do this again because I don't know why it is doing this. It worked on the first Samsung Captivate I had but I had to exchange it out because it had problems.
I've always believed to stop when I'm not sure what to do next.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I've just restored to factory. Might re-root it and be done with it.
Are you certain you installed the SIM card correctly? I've done it a bunch of times myself.
Sim card
Yes I did. In fact, when I did the flash from 2.1 to the 2.2 the sim card was already inserted. Was I supposed to remove it first? I hadn't read anywhere about taking it out before flashing to the new rom.
You aren't suppose to flash with a SIM card inserted, or any external SD card inserted either. It won't hurt, try to flash Cognition again. Remember to use ODIN to go back to JF6 first though.

Wrong - Always have use cwm & flashed with everything inserted - never a problem except when I screwed the pooch on the TiBu & opted to restore the system files too
OP - sounds like like a bad flash, I'd re-download it & reflash. You already know you can get back with Odin, so there's no downside.

Sorry for the back and forth banter, do yourself a favor and remove sim before flashing. It does not always cause problems but has been known to cause your exact issue

Thanks
Ok guys thanks.
I knew not to have the SD card inserted except when you are flashing rom. It's my understanding the SD card is used for storage. I will try flashing it without the SIM card installed and see how it goes.

Just remove all of the cards.
Thanks!
Ok. I reflashed the ROM without the SIM card inserted. I saw it recognized there was no SIM installed and now I have my cellular connection.
Thank you guys for your advice!!!
Sluggish
I do notice that the phone is sluggish now with the 2.2 rom. Geeze.
If you have not done so reboot a couple of times. The lag fix on that build usually works better after a couple boots.

[Q] SIM card not recognized after Revolt ROM install?

I am trying to install the revolt 1.5 rom onto my revolution. Everything seems to go exactly as planned, but then it doesn't read the sim card -- i tried removing and reinserting multiple times. I go back to recovery and reload my backup to my phone and the sim card is read and works perfectly. I tried the revolt 1.4 also just in case it would make a difference. But I have the same issue on both. Anyone able to help?
Can you access files on your SD card through a file manager? I had a problem where my phone wouldn't scan my sdcard for media files so my music program would say no SD card inserted. If you can access files with a file manager, try downloading "rescan media" from the market.

well, its not the SD card that is having the problem... it sees the sd card just fine... its the SIM card -- the one that it uses to activate and get afccess to lte.... that is what is not being detected, so it just won't activate because it says no sim is inserted.
Oh, duh, sorry, can't read today. Wish I could help with that :-(

I am curious though, are you coming from the v6 or v7 update? I believe you need to downgrade to v4 if that's the case to use the revolt roms (someone more knowledgeable than i please confirm that).

Yeah I have the V7 update... I thought it was supposed to work... but it definitely doesn't. I went ahead and just installed the gingervolt ROM and it works perfectly. I just wish there were some more roms for this model of phone! ha ha.

Edit: just reread the post. Nevermind. Revolt rom is for froyo. Flash gingervolt if you're on gingerbread. But it seems you got it working.

[Q] How do I restore to stock in order to sell phone

Hello all,
I am trying to return my rooted D3 to stock and wipe it of all custom apps, photos, and user data. I have flashed it a few times, done a factory reset, but I still see user data and custom apps on the internal sd card.
Is there a guide out there to completely unroot and clean your phone?
Thanks in advance,
blazer44
Its call sbf..
First go to settings about phone and see what android version your on either 5.7.890 or 5.7.906
Then go my thread (link is in my sig) and download the appropriate sbf..
After you sbf it will be just like you were at verizon getting your phone for the first time..
But this is for model xt862 if you have a diff model then you will have to do a search for that sbf
if phone is SIM unlocked, will i lose SIM unlock after SBF?
No.

Cool. Is there any way to tell what android version I am running without going into the settings? The phone is not activated due to all the wiping I have already tried.
If you turn it on you can press the four corners on the welcome to android setup Page. Starting from the bottom left going clockwise and it just goes to the launcher without signing you in or using data/activating.

Awesome, thanks! That worked and I was able to flash 5.7.890 using the one click.
One issue though. I still see folders for apps I had installed on the phone. They are empty but the folders are still there. Anyone to remove all trace of prior usage?
You should be able to factory reset from settingsrivacy and choose the option to format the internal storage. Or you can format internal storage from settings:storage.

Problem with brand new Note 3 and safestrap

Please I need some help! I just got a Note 3 today (I had a Note 3 when it first came out) and installed safestrap to it. I put a rom on my 64gb card and backed up the stock rom and then wiped all data, system, cache, etc. and when I tried to flash the rom it failed. I tried to do my restore and that failed also. I rebooted to recovery from safestrap and it went to the factory recovery. When I try to reboot the phone it just sits at the Samsung screen with the custom and lock icon. I don't know what to do. I think its the 64gb card that wouldn't allow the rom to be flashed or the restore to work. Is there an odin back to mj5? I think it's the only thing I can do.

I was able to restore to mj5. Do you know if there is a problem with 64gb sdhc 10 micro sd cards or flashing roms to the stock rom slot?
Flash from the internal. Report back

After a lot of playing around I think it is safer to use a 32GB for flashing or internal. Sometimes recovery doesn't play nice with a 64GB.
i would always recommend flashing from the internal with safestrap. just seems to be more stable. keep the file on your Ext for safe keeping but copy it to your internal for flashabilty<<<

root/backup question

So I currently have a 1TB sdcard in my note8 unlocked US version and I was wondering if I make a back up of my current stuff with root and save it on my SD card and flash a stock version without root so I can go into my banking app and play Pokemon go etc etc would that work? Would I be able to swap back to my rooted one afterwards?
Well, theoretically you could do that, as it's more rooting than an unlocked bootloader that is preventing you from using Pokemon Go and maybe your banking app.
I say "theoretically" because you don't have a 1TB micro SD card in your phone, since they don't exist yet. You might be lucky and not save more than the actual amount of flash memory that is really on that card (maybe 32GB, but I even doubt that), but if you do, that data will be gone forever.

they exist, i just bought one a couple weeks ago off of groupon for like 100 dollars, but i wasnt sure if when i flash the stock firmware it would erase safestrap/twrp and force me to root again before i could install it or if safestrap would stay regardless
I guarantee it's not a real 1TB card, but go on thinking it is. The phone may even report it is a 1TB card but if you run an SD card tester then you'll see it fails reading at a certain point.
As for your actual question, flashing a stock rom will typically remove TWRP and replace it with stock recovery. You could probably re-flash TWRP at that point.
