Thanx a lot,
but there are many ruu version here and no one is like mine...
is it a problem?
if i do a nandroid, can i restore mine stock rom version after flash a cooked rom?
Thanx again
Which one is yours? You can flash a WWE RUU if you cant find yours in the list.
BTW, It is recommended to take a 1.XX RUU from that site, because 2.XX RUU's are Froyo RUU's, and, you will not be able to root them if you require it in the future (As of now).
As for a Nandroid Restore, if you had taken a Nandroid backup of the Stock ROM after Root, yes, you can restore it back and get back your Stock ROM from a Custom ROM. If not, then flashing the RUU is the only way.

i've the stock rom upgraded to 2.22.405.1, so i ask to me if i do a nandroid now before flash another rom, then i can do a restore of it... sorry but firt of all i'm italian an i don't speak a read english very well...
thanx for your patience
Yes, you can restore your phone to the state it was right before you did the nandroid back-up.
Make sure you have enough space on your SD card before doing the back-up, say 500MB or more. And save that back-up to your PC for safe-keeping, it's in the "Clockworkmod" Folder on your SD card.
If your stock ROM (that you are restoring) is a version earlier than your custom ROM, do you need a goldcard?
If you are restoring to an earlier stock ROM to the stcok ROM on your phone, do you need a goldcard?

If I understand you correctly, you are having official 2.22.405 at this moment? If so, you will not be able to take a Nandroid Backup, or, install a Custom ROM, or, go back to a previous ROM, because, all of the above requires root, and, the official 2.XX ROM's cant be rooted as yet. You have lost root when you upgraded to 2.22.405.

No to both. Goldcard is just required for debranding purposes. (If you have taken backups of old ROM's)
I have an htc wildfire from vodafone with android 2.1 but I want to change the voda rom and install the htc official rom. I don't want to unlock I only want to change the vodafone rom with these ugly icons and applications and install the htc rom. So how I make this? I need to root? Only installing the official RUU.exe?

No, you will need a Goldcard to debrand your Wildfire. Just search the forums, there are guides on the same.

Hello.
Right now I have a phone with Euro 2.3.3 firmware, which was installed before I bought the phone most likely using Gold Card.
I want to install 4.0 Stock Euro firmware.
Yesterday I got myself S-OFF, Revolutionary, CWM Recovery, Root.
What are my options now?
I was considering doing XTC Clip S-OFF, and then just flashing latest 4.0 for Europe.
or installing BlackRose HBoot, updating firmware to Euro 2.3.5 using zip/RUU (dunno which one), and then maybe updating to 4.0 (via FOTA??).
So what exactly should I do best?
Please don't suggest custom ROMs. Thank you

why do a xtc clip s off when you already have s off ?
and you need to change your CID to the one that is recieving ota updates. its a bit of mucking around so you wanna make sure you know what your doing. id just wait until the official ruu comes out it will be alot easier to install. i think @tpbklake has gotten it to work
XTC clip gives you radio s-off, sim unlock and superCID. The problem is it's not free

I have now got the euro OTA installed on my Australian Virgin phone with CID OPTUS002 so it is definitely possible to do it. If you look in the "any news regarding OTA ICS update" thread around page 36 onward you will see a couple of posts by myself and @tpbklake about how we managed it.
Maybe I should just make a backup with Titanium, make a Gold Card, revert back to S-ON and flash the RUU using goldcard?
Then somehow I need to restore stuff from titanium on 4.0
That's pretty much what I did. I installed this ROM and then forced the OTA onto it. I then rooted and rebooted, all apps loaded from the market and then I used titanium to restore the missing bits.

No real need to follow the method I used of forcing the OTA on to an older RUU. Just get the latest full ICS RUU that's now available and use the steps you've posted. Much easier than the way I did it.

Hi.
It took my a while and I finally got my phone S-OFF and rooted. I just got a few questions
1)I want to use ICS but I don't like the laggy Sense. There seems to be at least few bugs in every custom ROM, so I'd like to stick with stock ROMs. But is there a way to "get rid of sense" or to at least mod it to be faster? Or perhaps there is another solution?
2)I read that if I use OTA updates my recovery will revert back to stock (using CWM). Is that the same case when using official RUU's ?

Now that you have S-OFF, stay away from any official HTC OTA or RUU because they will leave your phone in an unbootable state and will be very frustrating for a noob.
There are several ICS ROMs both with and without Sense. You just need to try them and find one you like. Just remember that once the ICS kernel source for the IncS is released by HTC, some of the custom ROM issues may be solved.

If u want ICS without sense, one of the smoothest rom is icecoldsandwich, works really well!
agree, icecoldsandwish is the best no sense rom
for sense you can use project x or cool droid

Hmmm.... Why is that so? I somewhere red that S-Off has got nothing to do with OTA.
I think it has to do with the OTA overwriting the bootloader,
by the way recommend IceCold too, there's only one thing that still keeps me on CM 7, on IceCold for some reason on-screen controls of several games don't work
I'm already trying out Ice Cold Sandwich, however I'still got a few questions:
Why do official RUU's will leave my phone in unbootable state
Should I use software like Rom manager or Root explorer ? I heard they have caused problems to other users.
If I make a backup with CWM, that counts as nandroid backup and you need root permissions for it (right?) . I was able to make backup of my stock ROM without root permissions and with S-ON. Is there a difference between those two?

1. Beacause it overwrites stuff in the bootloader like recovery...
2. Yeah, you really should have a file explorer with root access. I use ES File Explorer
3. If you're doing a nandroid backup in recovery you just need CMW to restore it. But for that u need root permission And since you're S-OFF now, you couldn't make a backup of your S-ON stuff It's just the ROM that stays but your phone is S-OFF now no matter if you restore your backup

The problem with both the GB 2.3.5/Sense 3.0 RUU and the ICS 4.0.4/Sense 3.6 is that they introduced a new /lib partition that needs the latest HTC HBOOT to execute correctly.
With the Revolutionary HBOOT in place, it is designed to not allow itself to be overwritten, thus if you attempt to install either one of these RUUs, all of the pieces will get installed correctly except for the new HTC HBOOT, thus when you attempt to boot the phone, it attempts to mount the /lib partition and the Revolutionary HBOOT has no idea what that is and the ROM freezes at the point and will not boot.
As for your last question, now that you have the Revolutionary S-OFF HBOOT in place, you are no longer running the HTC HBOOT that is lockable/unlockable, so it is not really relevant to your phone anymore.
Hi everyone!
This is my first post, since I never had any trouble toying around with my device. I have a rooted Incredible S, that ran MIUI perfectly. I want to return back to stock (this is imperative) and use the official ICS by HTC. I tried putting back my nandroid backup, which didn't work (perhaps an incompatible radio? I have no idea...). That's when I downloaded a stock, cracked ROM from a thread I found here. This is a Gingerbread ROM with Sence 3.0 I think. Obviously, I can't get the OTA to work. I think the issue here is that my recovery is still CWM, and that OTA only works with the stock recovery (this is what I concluded from research).
This is where I'm having trouble. A RUU doesn't seem to recognise my device, so that's not an option right now. Windows recognises my SD card when I hook up my phone through USB, so I can install ROMs just fine. Is there any way to get the stock recovery and the stock ROM without using a RUU, while keeping my device rooted? I really want all of this to be stock, so no mods, hacks or tweaks. I want my phone to be in the same state as when I bought it and rooted it, before installing custom ROMS. Is this possible?
Many, many thanks in advance!

Hey mate, official welcome from me Second welcome from me today lol
I would advise against going s-on and fully stock.
You cannot run a ruu or ota with a custom recovery/root.
So the easiest way to get the stock experience you want is by flashing one of tpbklake's rooted stock roms. They are basically stock roms with root and can run on a custom recovery. No tweaks or anything

The link above (top one) is based off a newer ruu from asia, although there is not much difference
I would also suggest to try ARHD 3.0.x for the stock optimised rom
Also which bootloader version do you have?

Yes there a some ROMs in the Development section that are completely stock that you can flash through recovery.
The original GB 2.3.3/Sense 2.1, the GB 2.3.5/Sense 3.0 and the latest ICS 4.0.4/Sense 3.6

I'm going to sell my device so I need it back the way it was. I want to keep it rooted though, so that the next owner can decide for himself what he wants to do with it. If he he's no techie, he can enjoy the device in stock (including OTAs, or can this be done like you mentioned?). If whe wants to toy with it, he can do that too. If it's easier to just go back to stock entirely, that's fine too.
It seems that I can no longer get into hboot now? After installing that hacked gingerbread, my device just boots into Android when pressing volume down and power??
tpbklake, I'll try to flash one of those when I can get back into recovery

Yes
But since you want stock it won't matter
You CANNOT have both root and ota updates
Either one or the other unfortunately
You have to make a choice a rooted stock ROM will be identical to the official ota from htc but you will be able to keep root, but can't get ota updates
but unfortunately I think sense 3.6 4.0.4 is the last update
But, I have been proven wrong before

K then in my case a full stock device would be best. How do I get started with this? First install a stock ROM, then the stock recovery and then put It back in S-OFF? Which ROM should I install (would prefer the stock 2.3.3)? And where can I find the recovery? Sorry for the basic questions but those lists of ROMs can get a bit complicated..
Still getting nowhere If I flash a stock ROM in CWM, my recovery won't go back to stock, will it? Shouldn't I try to get the stock recovery first and then use a RUU? Problem is that I can't seem to find a stock recovery anywhere. And when I extract the ROM from a RUU, it's only about 180 MB, so that can't be right, can it?

Ah, perfect! Canceled my download, but there's a 20 minute interval before starting a new one, so it'll take me at least an hour to download it.
I've encountered this issue before, but randomness seemed to solve it back then: a fastboot command just displays "<waiting for device>" and then keeps hanging there. "fastboot devices" returns an empty line, so that's consistent. Phone is in fastboot USB mode, so I'm not sure what could be the issue?
And then I have a question. In that guide, it says that I should extract HBOOT.img from the rom I installed. In my case, my rom only contains a file named "hboot_1.13.0000_CRC_8a731c6e_0401.img" (along with others of course, but I assume they are redundant in this step); will that one do?

Sounds like it may be a port issue, cable issue or driver issue on the PC.
Have you tried different ports or a different cable? Do you have HTC Sync running in the System Tray on the PC?

I thought you wanted to go to stock ICS? Hboot 1.13 it a gingerbread hboot. If you just flash the vivo_downgrade.img then run the ruu, there will be no need to extract and flash the hboot from the ruu.

No I wanted it back the way I wanted it. Rom, recovery,... all stock. But surely I'll give ICS a testdrive via OTA

Your phone does not have to be rooted (installed supersu.apk , superuser.apk ... ) to flash a cutom rom.
If you want to unroot any custom rom, you simply have to remove the superuser.apk / supersu.apk. And you normally wont have any problem

Many thanks - I want to be able to view work emails on my device, and a new policy prevents access if root is detected.
I'm familiar with flashing Samsung and Nexus devices, but HTC is new to me.
If I understand correctly, I just need to:
- Unlock device via htcdev.com
- Copy custom rom to internal storage
- Backup internal storage
- Boot to recovery (do I need to flash a custom recovery?)
- Install custom rom
Is that correct?
You will need a custom recovery, yes. Why don't you want root access?

unlocking bootloader erases everything. Before you unlock the bootloader disable fastboot andenable usb debugging
Yes you need to flash a custom recovery. I did it after unlocking bootloader with cmd ("adb flash recovery recovery.img")

Thanks guys.
Eddy - I need to check work emails on the phone, and a new security policy prevents access if root is detected.
One more Q: Is it possible for me to install stock a GPe rom to the device?
PS Eddy: Red or Blue? I organise this: www.rideforthe96.co.uk

Thanks - Seems like thats the easiest way (I found info that says you need S-Off and modified CID to convert to a 'Stock GPe' rom).
EddyOS - Regarding S-Off - not something I want to do at the moment, but your sig caught my eye - I thought S-Off wasn't possible with 1.54 hboot?
about Arsenal......I'll forgive you, most of my mates down here are Gooners

It's not, I did it when on HBOOT 1.44 and it sticks when you update
And we'll come good, always start off slow and get good when it counts!

I'm enjoying our start to the season while it lasts!
Anyway, back on topic, I'm actually really enjoying the stock Sense rom (pretty amazing experience comared to Touchwiz on Sammy devices), so I think I'll try a 4.3 Sense based rom. Do you have any recommendations? Ideally as close to stock with as few mods as possible.
I'm looking at a few of the available roms now, but none of them really stand out as the one to go for.
Finally - when I unlock my bootloader, the device will be wiped - so how much (if any?) of my set up and data will be saved / restored via HTC backup when I install a 4.3 sense based rom?
I actually love Sense 5 but today I've put the latest GPe build on my phone (100% stock as I have no need to root). I had a Nexus 4 before so it's nice to see a full HD stock Android build that all works as it should
Once HTC release the official 4.3 Sense update I'll go back to stock again

I am using ViperOne and i LOVE it! If you want something almost stock, i would recommend AndroidRevolutionHD
in my case it did not restore anything by HTC backup. I do not use it. I am setting up everything by myself when i install a new rom. (of course not contacts, etc, this is restored by my google account)
Great, thanks MICH

No possible. Unless you are S-Off, which is unlikely. You need root to install custom roms with S-Off (most likely your case).
After you install custom roms you may not like it and want to go back to stock so you can get normal upgrades to 4.2.2 or 4.3. Then you need to
relock your bootloader and flash a RUU.zip which is the stock 4.1.2.

The information you're giving people is incorrect.
2.
Why are you flooding the forum with this video?
3.
Why are you advising everyone to use an RUU?

Oops. Typo. Let me restate it. You need root if you are S-On. You don't need root if you are S-Off.
