[Q] Galaxy Tab Memory Problem - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've got a problem with my Galaxy tab. The problems are:
1. Whenever the device is turned off all the files are deleted - like a factory reset.
2. The language always reverts back to Chinese or something like that when turned off and on - I always need to change it back to English.
2. Recorded videos show unsupported file format when attempting to playback.
3. Doesn't charge using the wall charger when it is on but when it is off it's ok.
I've tried some TS like:
1. Factory Reset / Wipe Cache and anything I could see at Recovery.
2. Reflash Gingerbread
3. Tried downgrade to 2.2 - I haven't succeeded yet since I need some files to DL.
If anyone has an idea on how to solve it or encountered the problem pls share some thought.
The main problem I'm really frustrated is regarding the memory problem whereas I can't save any files nor store anything on the 16GB internal memory.
BTW, I'm running on 2.3.3 GB
BB: P1000DXJPD
Thank You.

this is wired ... can u tell us what is your Tab old firmware ?
and did you tried to back into froyo and back again to flash the gingerbread ?

I can't really say what's the old firmware since my mom just gave it to me.
I'll be trying to flash it back to froyo later though I'm still trying to figure out what Firmware I should download since the last time I tried it, the tab only goes to a constant boot loop.
I can't really figure out what's the problem with this tab. It seems like it's using deepfreeze (PC App) Since, the prior files saved are still present even after turning it off. I even tried deleting those files but to no avail after reboot it returns.
So, I'll try flashing froyo and let's see.
Thanks.

what is your tab ? GSM , CDMA ?

It's GSM, I've managed to flashed 2.2 now and the charging issue seems to be solved, could charge it now using the wall charger and via usb.
But the memory problem is still the same.
Let me expand on it a little more.
The internal memory which is 12.82 GB (12.80 Avail) and Internal Device Storage (1.85 GB) seems to be detected by the TAB, the problem is whenever I save a file or anything on it after reboot it's gone but some files (Pics) even though I delete it after reboot it comes back. It seems like the memory is froze or something.
Thanks.

Yes I've used a PIT file. I've successfully flashed it now with the ROM on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=939360.
Still the same so it seems like this is most probably a hardware problem.
I've noticed that when I connect the Tab to my pc as a media storage, I could see the files on the internal memory. I've tried deleting it manually and quick format it. But after disconnecting it the same files returns.
I'm now trying to format it the long way, not the quick format.

I have the EXACT same problem with my Galaxy Tab 7 inch Sprint. My internal memory boots up as read only and resets itself every time I boot the device.
I've been looking for days to figure out what I can do solve this but it really doens't seem promising.
I was able to make the internal memory read writable through adb shell with:
mount -o remount, rw /
The problem is, when I reboot. All the changes are gone. If anybody has a clue please post here or PM me. Thanks!

[Q] What fixes have you tried for your dead i9000m?

So just like everyone else i've got a bricked i9000m. So before i send it off to repair (thats if they take it that is), Im sorta curious what fixes have all you out there tried on your phones?
So far i have flashed with odin1.3 to jh2 and now stuck a the "S" boot screen.
Is there a way to get cwm recovery on a phone that dont boot?

i bricked my phone many times.i flash back to xxjm8 from samfirmwares.com, thats the password aswell you will have to register its free. if it does not work first time try flashinging again.use ordin 1.7 its good.you can get all your updates from ther without getting confussed on the fourm, i have been stuck on that screen many times trying to root my fone on the new 2.2.1 firmware.go to google type xxjpu galaxy root. the is a web site give you xxjpx rooted with voodoo + some cool tools follow all the steps to the letter,if you can print it off its only three pages .
what about adb ? Did tried it ?
a hammer
i flashed back to jh2 after it was in a boot loop from jk4 and then it wouldnt even turn on.. sent back for repair

tried it
i can't get the phone to connect. keep getting the stupid "unmounted sd......." crap.
but the funny thing is i can get in to dnl mode reflash with odin, and everything works fine no error codes. But the phone won't boot. keep getting stuck at the s screen
workaround
I've tried everything i can find, i used adb and mounted the card in windows then formatted the card (there is a how to on here for that) but that didn't work. I've tried multiple roms and kernels but i still have the same problem. It seems that my only option is to send it in for warranty. But, if you want to use your phone over the holidays or wait for samsung to come out with an answer before sending your phone in for repair there is a little work around that you can try to get your phone to boot. The phone will be fully functional except that you cannot use the internal SD nor an external SD. Thus, you won't be able to install or save anything to your phone.
to do this workaround just flash the bell froyo rom (there was another froyo rom that i had working but i can't remember which one) then install the voodoo lagfix kernel. When it boots you will hear the "cool voice" state that it is converting it to the ext4 partition and then it will boot into the OS. there will be a program or two that require a "force close" but at least you're phone will work until you can get it repaired. In settings under SD card you'll notice that it says there is no internal or external disk space that's just because you still have the SD corruption and that this is only a work around to get your phone to boot.
I'm curious, for those having this problem and can get into recovery mode, can you report if you're seeing an error msg under the menu and if so, what does it state? Thanks.
Where can you find the official firmware for the i9000m? I had a custom rom installed but my phone decided to brick - jpu worked fine but the minute i upgraded to jpx... Anyway I want to flash the official firmware and take my phone back to bell.
Thanks
I've ran my phone with the original Eclair rom for a couple weeks. I then figured that I couldn't wait for the froyo rom. I've been running the Spike Speedy OC rom, with the JK4 modem and voodoo lagfix. The phone was running just great, very fast. I then changed the lagfix to overkill ext4. Some hours later, the phone hung up. When I rebooted it, it said that the configuration had changed. I saw that one of the options was back to RFS.
What?? It's formatted as ext4. Oh sh*t. Well it didn't boot back up.
I've tried flashing every different firmware I could find. I then tried to re-format the SD manually and found that the partition table was bad.
I've tried to reformat both SD card partitions. The system one (p2) formatted fine, but the "internal SD" (p1) storage one wouldn't format. When I ran fdisk on it, it told me that the partitions didn't end on cylinder boundaries.
Then, I (mistake) flashed a T959 firmware on it. At that point, I wasn't able to get into the download mode using the 3-button combo. Oh shi*... Now I really messed this up. I've managed to get it into download mode using ADB and flash the bell firmware back on it. Oh yeah!! Here we go again.
After the fact that I had installed the T959 and flashed back I9000 firmware, I couldn't find the /dev/block/mmc*** anymore. As if the SD didn't load up.
At that point I inserted a microSD in, and it was recognized as the internal SD. I managed to partition and use that external microSD card just like the internal one and got the phone to boot and work. However, no storage.
All of which I was trying to do while my USB connection was on-and-off, because the usb connector was damaged. It initially had corrosion because my car plug that was kept on the floor of the car, with all the dirt, water and snow. I used alcohol and a tooth brush to clean it, between flashes. As well, flashing it through a VirtualBox VM since I'm on Ubuntu. Sh*t..
This morning I figured I would stop trying, flashed the JH2 firmware on it and brought it to Bell. I tried to get a refund with the argument that this phone is badly designed - with the samsung movinand flash chip - and that it would fail again even if they fix it. It didn't work out for me since I bought the phone about 40 days ago. I was thinking of getting a refund and buy a Nexus S, when a compatible one comes out. It has a different flash chip - a iNand from Sandisk I believe. Oh well. If it fails again, I can still call VISA and give it a try through the purchase protection plan. I have to mention too that I tried calling bell with my concerns - nothing they would do too.
I don't recommend you take my approach. IMO, maybe try, as root, to check the partitions using fdisk /dev/block/mmc(something) and if they appear ok, try to format the SD card using fat.format /dev/block/mmc(something)p1 - but that's it. I'm an experienced linux user, but I'm not a developper. I don't even clearly understand this ODIN flashing stuff. It's like not all firmware you find on the net have the same amount of components inside. I'm thinking stuff from the other flashing is still remaining, not replaced by the later flashes.
I have to say that the next time I'll approach this using fdisk and fat.format only (If I've got a recovery mode working, with root and adb support). Perhaps I will write down the numbers for where the partitions start and end on this SD card when I get my refurbished phone.
Some might say that I had time to spare... I wrote this for you that might be thinking of fixing your 600$ brick yourself.

External SD not recognised on galaxy s?

Hey all, my 16gb sandisk sd card isn't being recognised anymore, anyone know why?
It says it read the SD card, and it got to 100% complete, yet my apps dont load to the menu list anymore :/
Help please
Also, when I try and boot up either Launcher7 or Twlauncher the phone restarts on me..
It's not rooted, its not a custom rom, just froyo 2.2.1 :/
does windows recognise it ?
if so, move all files to PC, put SD card back in phone and try to format, if you cant format it under windows and try again
ok i connected it to my pc, copied everything over, then i formatted the card (fat32) and yet it still doesnt want to read it.
ive tried all i can do and yet nothing works. my card is 100% authentic so i know that isnt the problem, yet nothing else is fixing it
thats strange. if you was on a custom rom / kernel there are things we could do to get it working.... but your not lol.
under settings, have you tried to unmount / mount ??
does anything pop up in the notification bar when you insert / remove external sd ?
really? what custom roms? i moved from 2.2 to darkys 9.5 within a week, but then went to 2.2.1 for warranty reasons.
ive tried unmounting and remounting, just like inserting it, restarting the phone etc., all it says is media scan running, gets to 100%, media scan complete.
it says i have 8.56gb of 14.2gb free which is normal, and all the files come up on the computer, but in my menu they arent there, just a bunch of empty spaces.
no matter how long i leave it running nothing gets recognised
that is weird
have you tried a factory reset, i dont know any other options.
you havent downloaded any apps that could of caused this recently have you ?
no i haven't tried a factory reset yet just cause i don't want to lose all my apps. i had 10 pages of apps and id rather not want to reinstall 8 of the missing pages, but if i cant fix it ill go into download mode soon and perform a factory reset, if that doesn't work i'm gonna exchange the card for a new one.
i'm 100% certain that no apps caused this. i haven't installed anything new for about a week. just turned the phone off then back on and now its broken.
thanks for your help, ill let you know how i go
Yea keep me informed. Have u got any backup apps that you could try and see if they backup the "missing " apps
Sent from Miui powered SGS
i think my phone is the problem. i've just tried using a new sd card and that one is also not being read
ill try a factory reset later, and then if that fails ill try new firmware to see how that goes.
Just finished flashing froyo 2.2, then 2.2.1 and neither worked.
how do i go abouts fixing this with a custom rom?
i think the problem lies with the hardware not the software.
like you said earlier you tried another sd card and that didnt work either.
the options in a custom rom are just manually mounting / unmounting and fixing permissions in recovery, but i dont think this will help.
your on stock ROM now so i would just go to your nearest SSC and tell them to fix it under warranty
thanks for helping me man
ill be taking it in soon as a repair, however, my friend said it couldve happened cause my battery went to 0% and the phone just shut of and broke something, is that true? i'm not sure cause I can still access the card by pc.

[Q] Running a CM7 Nightly when Internal SD seems to have Self Destructed.

This Bell I9000m that this wonderful place helped me figure out how to toss CM7 Nightly into Just had a melt down this past week I need to figure out if I'm boned or not.
I was pulling my media off the internal SD card with Teracopy the night before it all happened in usb mass storage mode and ever since the data was pulled. Icons on my desktop would only start displaying AndroidMarket like logo's and not launching anything. So i would reboot the phone to see if it was just acting silly and it would only get worse.
So I tried factory resetting and clearing all the cache's via CWM bootloader than load the OS to no avail the system simply stopped booting so I tried installing via zip the original nightly that I had left on the internal SD that was a signed release... The install didnt pass the signature check.
At this point I've just put trying on hold to come and ask around here. Am i screwed or am I just around the corner from having my damn phone back.... again .... I need ideas or solutions to this problem.
***UPDATE***
Bell has sent the phone back with the note on the file, "Replaced Major Component" I cant even begin to imagine what that means. Besides everything is apparently less broken? Although i was recording a meeting in full 720P and it decided to randomly stop recording at 47 minutes without any apparent reason.
If anyone reads this and comes up with any ideas as to what may be able to be done let me know please.
I'm trying EZOdin and easybase but the format does not like to work regardless of the PIT file i use it never seems to play well. But im guessing its probably a good idea to start fresh.
Try regular Odin and see what it says but if you internal SD is hooped it will still flash but it won't boot. You are trying the EZbase Froyo 3 part file with pit?
You could try a stock rom also but note you may need to add a DBdata file to the stock rom if you repartition as you need a db data file and it is not included in jl2 or kc1. I guess kies used the existing one from eclair and that is why it is not there.
It sounds like it could be a dying SD card (especially the heavy file use just before issues started). Have you ever had to replace your handset yet?
G
Bell has had my phone for service twice the first time they charged me 60$ for some reason and the second time they did not.
But both times they just reloaded the phone and returned it to me even though both times were similar problems its like they're just trying to avoid having to deal with giving me a replacement.

[Q] Bootloop after Kernel Flasher use -_-

Hey everyone, after a year of not caring about any mods or hacks for my galaxy s I thought that I should get one problem out of this world.
I am talking about the constantly flashing led buttons...so I stumbled upon BLN control which needed a special kernel, so I downloaded the promoted Kernel Flasher and the .tar file of the manual site of BLN (the site i was linked to via my mobilephone when opening BLN).
That tar file was called something with odin in it (not the "update" version). I used odin back in the days I remember...anyways, while in kernel flasher i inserted that tar file...and the kernel was installed, auto-reboot and since then it restarts on loops. Loads the desktop, checks for sd cards...you can scroll around a bit...then after 8 seconds it gets black and restarts.
I am really desperate here, because my exams are coming up and due to my carelessness I have this nasty problem to solve on top of that. Arghh...
There are some appz with important information in it (like notes), a clear swipe would be the absolute last resort here.
Can I recover my old kernel (didn't backup my old one), or replace/update with a new, working one? Through the recovery menue?
If you'd be so kind to step by step explain how it should be done? and I will cease any modding, hacking after this one. -_-
It is a rooted 2.3.3 Gingerbread kernel, as far as i can remember.
Can you go to download mode ? if so flash the .tar file as pda in odin. MAKE SURE IT'S THE RIGHT KERNEL FOR YOUR DEVICE.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App. i helped? hit the thanks button. Thanks
Thanks for the tip.
This morning I played around with this bootlooping phenomenon a bit and found out, that when I immediately close any wlan or phone signal my phone works normal...just that I cannot phone anyone, or be phoned, or surf the net.
I manually did a backup of all my important files now, phew.
When using backup programs my phone resets immediately too.
Ok, long story short, I got my firmware, kernel info now, so you might be able to tell me which kernel, firmware would be appropriate for me (didn't update for a year now, so I am not on top of the news).
Kernel/file that screwed up my phone:
i9000_jvh_backlightNotification_v3.0_odin.tar
My actual Kernel Version:
2.6.35.7-i9000XWJVH-CL184813 [email protected] #51
Buildnumber:
Gingerbread.XWJVB
I am able to enter the download mode, but which . tar-file should I use in your opinion? What's a good one today?
Ah, I see the light, maybe I once again will be able to phone again.

do you want to use a Samsung stock kernel or do you wanna give a try to Cyanogenmod stable or something like that?
Last time I saw samfirmware sites I saw that 2.3.6 was avaible for Europe...
Well... that's your choice!!!
Will I be able to keep the functionality of BLN, that keeps those led-buttons at the bottom turned off?
With a Samsung Stock-Kernel you will loose the BLN-Feature. You can try flashing another Kernel which has implemented this feature too. I used the SemaphoreKernel which has this feature. (works on all GB-Roms)
If you try Cyanogenmod you will loose BLN too. But Cm has a feature called "LED-Notification" which does the same as BLN does.
So, I downloaded update-cm-7.1.0-GalaxyS-signed.zip should I go on with this manual? http: //jjpda.blogspot.com/2011/10/how-to-install-cyanogenmod-71-on-i9000.html ?
Or do I have to go back from a root to apply this new one?
Which program do I use on PC, and which one on my phone again? :O
Search in Cyanogenmod wiki for i9000,you will find all the steps to follow..
You need 1st TO root the phone, than install ROM manager, install CWM, place CM7 zip on internal SD, remove SIM And ext. SD,reboot into recovery, wipe data, cache and dalvik, flash CM7 zip and reboot.
Don't forget:
-fully charge your phone before starting
-read CM7 wiki page
Hope this might help you.

But now my SIM-CARD isn't recognized anymore. I accidently forgot what bedo told me in his last post, and left that card inside while flashing. My bad, i guess.
But what can I do now? I re-flashed, wiped already, with no success, my sim card is still absent in cyanmod. :\

Can you post a screenshot about info of your phone with CM7?
(long press power button and select Screenshot when you are in the info menu )
Here some info for your amusement. Have fun!
Supposed we get to a solution, so I can use my phone for communication purposes again, I wanted to format the internal sd memory of my phone.
Can I just format it, then just leave the flash files on it, to reflash again?
How does that work?
Also, I flashed that googleappz package rom too after the cynomod flash, as I was supposed to by wiki manual.
But I cannot find google maps, android market etc.
I wonder if there is any connection to my initial sim card problem.
But first things first I guess...wanna do some calls :\
Thanks so far for all the good souls trying to help me!
try to flash cm7 radio .
What is the difference exactly? Includes a radio option?
Does it also have the option to turn off the led sensor buttons?
Has it an option to do phone calls too?
PS: I cannot seem to find any cyanmod radio file...hmm

O_O OMG!
Seems no SIM card detected....
Very very strange...
Like the fact that you flash GApps and you can't see market...
Did you wipe cache and Dalvik cache?
+ try this:
"Settings -> Location&Security -> Set up SIM card lock -> Lock SIM card (uncheck)"
I found that in some cases might help.

Take a look here and try with JVK if it works...
I wiped everything possible in recovery mode, flashed that ominous JVC rom, then googleappz. At least now I can shop in the android market. But the sim card still is in the land beyond imagination.
Has my sim card been...bricked?
Which other flash files do you suggest me to try out now? Or should I get me another sim card from the store?
Everything's solved! And the solution was too easy to believe...
Checked the sim card slot more deeply and found out that the sim card wasn't placed in correctly. I seem to have taken it out through the flashing process and in all the "commotion" quickly put it in wrong. Sorry for the big fuzz, everyone.
At least now I got some training with flashing.
So, should I reflash the first cyanmod again?
no you don't need to reflash the rom, cause you already flashed twice plus wiped all possible options...!
I just didn't want to ask you to check if the SIM card was insert properly,
but that would solve your issue faster...!
Enjoy CM7!
Well, I had some time to try out the performance and stability of this mod.
Games definitely are running with a some lag (also reaction time of the sensor to control your game, makes them unplayable).
I tried to uncheck the Cyanmod setting option "Dithering" and "JIT"..also put the cpu settings to "performance".
To be sure I formatted internal SD and external SD.
My phone had some problems finding my external SD, but some guy on the net told to go to Cyanmod settings, applications, use internal memory...and now I use my external SD for everything I guess?
Maybe this is because everything is in slowmo?
Maybe the firstly flashed mod was more...stable?
So, my question would be how to use my internal sd card, maybe it gets faster then?

[Q] Galaxy Note Bricked / Freezed...

Hello,
I have samsung galaxy note after brick (I had to use pit's to help with brick). Everyhing seems to be okay on gingerbread (sometimes some few secs lags) but when I upgrade to stock xxlsz its freezing. Its freezing very often. Now I was adding google account and phone screen went black and nothing happens. Its connected to the pc and I can access storage but when I disconnect it and connect it I can hear in pc sound that its connected but I cant access memory anymore. Very ofter phone just displays the app that I was using and no touch or button reaction, even when I connect or disconnect charger. So i hold power button till it turn of and turn it on again then its mainly stucking on samsung screen and then reboot and its like that for loooong time. When i remove battery for 5 mins or maybe even less its botting up again but phone is wiped. I mean its asking for everyhing as I would do full data wipe.
I was checking I think every possible stock rom.
I also found this but Im not that good and I dont know what to do with it.

Any help would be very, very appreciated.
Thank you.
You have a bricked note with reduced memory. So the freezes are consequence of this. Nothing to solve. You'll have to replace the mainboard for a real solution.
Ok, but I still have 8GB of memory so it should be enough I think so.
If I need to replace mainboard can someone tell me where can I buy it and where is it cheapest?

Only way: Samsung Service Center. The mainboards aren't available in the "free" market.
And 8GB isn't enough for JB Roms and even with the slim CM/AOSP ones you'll get the freezes.
Ok,
So if 8GB isnt enough why have I around 6GB free space for my files? Is there any way I can repartition it so system would have whole 8GB and there wouldnt be any lags?
the freezing is mainly because the OS could be still accessing the bad blocks.. run the scanner again to get new start and end and see it you can get a new pit to cover up those

When I use this on stock PIT using CWM I got brick between 863MiB = 930MB and 3072MiB = 3222MB but when I use same script and do the scan using CMD I get brick between 1023MiB = 1073MB and 15028MiB = 15759MB
When I use the same method but on modified PIT (brick between 00281MB and 03770MB FACTORYFS moved by 03328MiB) using CWM I got brick between 22 = 24MB and 4354 = 4566MB
After I use PIT brick between 00281MB and 03233-MB FACTORYFS moved by 02816MiB which schould be okay Im formating /cach /system /data and Im unable to format /emmc (Error mounting /emmc).
I really dont know what the problem is with.
On stock PIT Im not able to format /data and /emmc with which I got Error mounting /emmc
At last I have used this and its stucked at FACTORYFS nearly at the end.
I have tried to use PIT brick between 00281 and 12092-MB FACTORYFS moved by 11264MiB but even after this Im unable to mount /emmc. I can instal rom but its freezing whole the time.
Any ideas?
