Voodoo lagfix reactivating its self after internal SD format - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
Today, to prepare for the install of Darky's 10.1 (currently running 9.5) I decided to turn off the lagfix. On the advice of someone at work, I also decided to format the internal SD (using the section in the options menu of the phone). I booted into recovery, and disabled the lagfix as normal, all seemed well. I then turned the phone off (to remove the SIM and SD), and rebooted just to double check that the lagfix was successfully disabled, and the lagfix was reapplied for some reason.
How do I stop this happening again? and how do I tell if the lagfix is definitely turned off?
Thanks
Rob

To update:
Just rebooted again after unchecking all the boxes in the voodoo sound app. Now the voodoo sound app still has both boxes unchecked, and the lagfix status is "Lagfix RFS Only, compatibility mode, no EXT4 conversion", is the correct?
Thanks again,
Rob

Yes, problem solved, and very interesting to know, thanks for sharing

[Q] Technical questions JPK - back to zero

Hi - I'm new here - only just got my Galaxy S about 5 days ago (UK o2) and vowed not to mess with it until the official Froyo comes out.
Anyway....of course that didn't last long! I've learned about the different available ROMS - first I tried the lagfix - the new Voodoo one with the colour fix that looks interesting - actually seemed to make my JM1 more laggy if that's possible. So....
Now, I've flashed the latest JPK with odin and did a full wipe of as much as I could (cache, factory reset) from the recovery menu after and before. (I've come from the HTC Hero and sorely miss Amon-Ra's recovery features)
Now I'm having a few issues with this beta froyo build - especially when rebooting which takes an absolute age and a couple of times my icons haven't showed up!?
Wondering if I should have removed Voodoo lagfix before wiping and flashing the JPK??
Is there any way now that I'm on JPK to check if the Voodoo stuff is still there or any way of completely "re-setting" the device and removing all erroneous partitions etc that Voodoo might have set up?
My phone kinda works ok and I don't really want to go back to 2.1 because of the features in 2.2 but I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction getting my phone back to zero. Will I need to root? I can use adb if I have to...
Any help much appreciated.
Sorry, I as probably about 90% of people here just didnt bother to read. Why? Because you are IN THE WRONG FORUM
Flashing JPK will have blown away the custom voodoo kernel; factory reset will have wiped the ext4 partition that voodoo makes and rebuilt it with RFS (samsung's own file system).
Rebooting is rather sluggish on JPK; you can install the one-click-lag fix (oclf, available on market) though I've found it doesn't really need it for normal operation.
Be careful restoring app data via titanium, mybackup pro and the google built in backup (under privacy) between eclair and froyo - it can cause all sorts of oddities and force closes. Backing up the internal sd card, formatting it, and restoring only your own data files (rather than app caches) can also help.
Blowing away the internal sd card, and a factory reset, will get you back to zero. Then reinstall apps, resync with google etc, and go easy on bringing appdata back, and you should *hopefully* be fine.

Thanks for the detailed reply - much appreciated and exactly what I needed to know
Just can't wait till the final Froyo ROM and a decent and fully reatured recovery from one of the genius and generous devs around these parts.

OCLF - Help Needed -

So I Accidently did a data/cashe wipe, lagfix was applied however after the reboot OCLF still thinks the lagfix is installed when it's not, or at least doesnt appear to be.
Quadrant is back to score of 1000, and free space is showing 1855 MB out of 1917 MB available.
Is there a file somewhere I need to delete to reset OCLF? the sd card was not wiped.
Nevermind, found a fix.
Restore boot animation and lagfix options all turn green again... weird.
i hv a similar problem.
how did u restore the lagfix??

How to format mass memory with VooDoo installed ?

Ok, I have Eclair and VooDoo on it. Now I want to make my phone as new, as from the box. I dont mind to have VooDoo just disabled but I want to format my mass memory. How do I do that because it will probably delete "disable lagfix" folder ? I dont want to flash with Odin or anything else since I dont have a clue how to work with that. Can I flash fresh Eclair trough Kies so VooDoo is deleted and I have phone just like when I bought it ? Or I can do right click and Format in windows, VooDoo does not have any connection with it ?
So, basically, I want to bring my phone in "out of the box" state, Im on Eclair and I have VooDoo lagfix installed and disabled with "disable lagfix" folder, thats it.
Tnx a lot !
No one ??? Am I the only one that wants to do this sometime ?

when you format the internal mass storage, yes, "voodoo" folder will disappear too.
but when you reboot the phone, the kernel will detect that voodoo folder is missing, and it will once again, implement voodoo, and your phone will still have voodoo, and you will see the voodoo folder after the reboot.
Because Voodoo implemented at the kernel level, if you want to remove voodoo totally, the only way is to flash new kernel after disable lagfix.
on top of that, i believe voodoo didn't touch internal storage (except creating voodoo folder as a indicator or flag, and allow you to disable voodoo by adding a disable lagfix folder).
so it's safe to do format of your internal storage even if with voodoo installed.
hope the info helps.
most of the owner moved to froyo, which makes eclair related thread has lesser response
Tnx a lot, that helps, I have formatted mass memory and then Ive made Voodoo/disable lagfix folder and now it is ok, I can flash Froyo when it finally arrives in Croatia.
Thanks !

[Q] Voodoo lagfix Darkys v9.2

Once you activate the lagfix, files are created in the sdcard that are just over 1gb in size. Can i delete these files or are they important?
Sent from my Green Robot Device
I don't think the lagfix will work if you delete them.
So it disables the lagfix? If that was the case, it should be as simple deleting those files and disabling lagfix instead of going through CWM and waiting 15mins for it to disable.. Right?
Sent from my Green Robot Device
don't know if it's the same thing deleting/cwm but should be better to remove it
through cwm to make sure it's all gone. yeah it's quite a big file but i don't really mind.
got enough space for apps/games on the phone, and 4gb card for music, it's only $10

Memory problem

Hey guys,
I bought my Galaxy S a week ago from amazon.
I installed a rom (called pilotX - comes with SGS tools, Voodoo and other stuff), and downloaded a few apps, some of them were given root access (Titanium backup, etc..).
Then they have began crashing all the time.
Tried to remove them, but after a reboot they return! Even after I do a factory reset, and cache reset.
I think the internal sd card is "write locked" or something, if I fire up "My Files" and delete everything, than unmount the sd card and re-mount it, everything comes back.
Other things I've tried:
* Installing other firmwares via Odin.
* Installing other kernels / ROMS.
* Formatting the SD card from settings.
* Formatting via the "phone number".
My phone is a rack now, when I power it up there are so many "End task" windows that I can't get to the desktop (can do it after a few tried though)..
Any idea what's happening?
Thanks in advance..
Edit: More info - I also installed speedmod-kernel-k13d-500hz - another kernel (with odin).
The apps are installed on the phone internal memory I think, I can still see them even if I unmount the internal sd card..
Something is clear to me here.
I think you did not disable lagfix before you flash another kernel
that the rom included voodoo lagfix and you flashed speedmod kernel.
so you messed up your memory part of your phone.
You don't have to worry.
download stock firmware, with pit file, repartition.
this just disable everything and will bring your phone back to original state.
Start again from there.
Thanks dirn,
By stock firmware I guess you mean one of the formal firmwares?
I've tried a few already, with their pit files.
Currently I have I9000XWJM8 installed (tried JQ3, JM9 and some more as well, originally had JQ1).
Even with repartition, the memory still seems jogged..
The kernel was burned before I installed the ROM, so even if it included a lagfix, the memory problems started right after I downloaded apps from the market, before I even changed kernels and firmwares to try and fix this..
are these firmwares in 3 files ?
they must be a 3 file firmware if you are using PIT and re-partition, Also did you make sure the re-partition box was checked before you started the flash.
old eclair 2.2 works well for me when i have issues, perhaps it will work for you too
Positive,
I ticked the check box,
chose 3 files, chose the right PIT, been with Eclair all along - tried to switch to Froyo once to see if there's any change but no good..
It's killing me, I gotta understand how it happened..!
you dont have the SGS I9000 M << do ya ?? definately I9000 international.
could you post a screen shot of what odin looks like before the flash
