I'm happy that the folks who wanted it finally got the opportunity to unlock their Vivids, and have the ability to root and install custom ROMs, clear out CIQ, etc.
Now, I wonder how long it will be before we start seeing "bricked phone" posts here? Unfortunately, not everyone has the skill, experience or patience to do this. I don't.
I think I will wait to see what happens with ICS (and Sense 3?) for the Vivid. I know it will be a while. But in the meantime, I will just keep using my Vivid.
Good luck and Happy New Year!

Team Win (and evil devnull) should be releasing a custom recovery for the vivid. Apparently it can cure pretty much any soft brick. I believe it is available for the EVO 3D and they're working on other devices.

Thanks for the clarifications. I can always depend on folks here to keep me corrected.
From what I have read with most emmc devices ruu will fix most "brick" situations anyway. In 3D I have seen very few brick posts and we have some extremely ignorant people over there. And by very few I mean maybe 2..

Hi; Vivid fans
I am looking at buying a new phone i am currently using my Samsung Infuse.
I have have been reading your forum for a couple of days no and i have a couple of questions. I am leaning towards the Vivid
Now that the phone can be unlocked can the Raider Roms be used on the AT&T phones?
Do you think now that the phone can be unlocked will there be more Devs,Roms and just over all action in the Forum?
I like my Infuse but I have all ways been a fan of HTC and would like to come back over.
Thank You,

Hi, shogunmark
Thank you for reply and asking about future activate wasn't really a literal question i just thought I would ask the members who have been for awhile if there has been an increase. and thank you again

Unlock just happened, so its hard to tell. But before unlock there were a few devs saying they would make ROMs once it got unlocked.

I for one have been waiting for this to happen. I knew it was a matter of time, but the real issue was with how long. I can finally retire my N1 and may just run over to the AT&T store to pick one up tonight.
There was alot of angst going on here on these forums over the lack of a proper root, but now with hboot now being open it's become a viable platform again.
Once I have one in hand, may end up posting my N1 up for sale on the forums to keep the old but still free Android flagship flying.
You should also take into consideration that this is a Sense-based phone so you're bound to have many potential devs looking for a new platform to bring their roms from other devices to the first ATT LTE HTC phone. I mean Desire HD has a ton of devs that could really take off with the Holiday/Raider/Vivid.

I think and also hope you are right.
It would be good to see more join in on this forum.
I saw this in another thread and I thought it had some great similarities to what we root and rom flashers go through.
Just add your own funny conclusion to "You know you're rooted when...."
Have fun!
Examples:
You know you're rooted when you miss multiple calls from friends and family and they ask why and you tell them that you must have been "in recovery". They don't understand... We DON'T have a drug or addiction problem!"
You know you're rooted when you spend more time on XDA forums than with your family or on Facebook/Twitter.
You know you're rooted when you never have to clear out your sms inbox because it happens everytime you flash a new rom.
You know you're rooted when your wife or girlfriend doesn't understand why you spend so much time "fixing" a brand new phone.
So what's your best "You know you're rooted when...."
Sent from my rooted HTC One with a custom Rom
You know your rooted when you laugh at anything that will be posted by others in this thread because odds are its happened to you!
Reserved for best of "You know your rooted when...."
You know you're rooted when you wake up at 1am phone in hand and works!
You know you're rooted when you tell some random person at the bar who asks how your day was and you say you still dont have 422. They respond with don't you mean 420?
You see that they have an Iphone and glassy eyes and just walk away.
You know you're rooted when: Your brand new phone works less than a 3 year old HTC Hero.
You know your rooted when you have a brand new paperweight on your desk.

You know you're rooted when...
Someone who has recently purchased the very same Android handset as you; brags about the quality of features (which are available out-of-the-box), only for you to suddenly realize you have the, "World's Most Snarky & Pretentious Smirk of Empathy" on your face; as if you were pitying a child who can't quite walk, just yet.

You know your rooted when you're not allowed to drive with your significant other in the car because you can't set the phone down yet you are not even texting or talking.
Better yet, they just offer to drive because they already know you are going to be on the phone.

You know you're rooted when you're excited when plans get cancelled because your favorite developer just released nightlies for a new Rom.
You know you're rooted when someone gets a new device and says "NO. You can't touch it, it works!"
You know you're rooted when you flash a AOSP room and get bricked.
You know you're rooted when you don't have much needed warranty on your month-old phone
You know you're rooted when you get very excited about getting something working, and you talk about rooting so much your friends are starting to understand you.
You know you're rooted when you find yourself explaining what a ROM is to everyone who checks out your phone.
You know you're rooted when people ask you about blink feed and what it looks like while you're running an AOSP rom and have to go through the hassle of explaining why you don't have blink feed.
You know you're rooted when you text friends after they call saying "I can't take your call because my mic doesn't work but we can text"
You know you're rooted when you take a bare copper wire to make a connection to two copper points on a phone because some guy on an XDA post said it would get you "S-OFF" (VIVID, REZOUND..... a few others...)
You know you're rooted when you have never uttered the words "I love iOS".
You know you're rooted when you've resigned yourself to ever getting that one particular thing to work ever again.
you know youre rooted when you flash a gsm rom on a cdma phone before reading that they arent compatible lol
and then you come on xda for help lol
I recently rooted my HTC vivid and I'm wanting to try other ROMs that are easy to install and that are stable mainly I'm wanting a sense ROM 4.0 and up any help would be helpful.

What is with the hostility and the crazy rules on these boards? I get he kind of asked a newb question, but on the other hand, there are so many bad ROMs, outdated and buggy, and so on. I don't see competition as a bad thing. Just the other day, I flashed away a perfectly good ROM on my HTC One XL to try the new ViperXL, just to find out it was buggy and had restrictions that I HATED. I would have loved to been able to ask someone for some advice and opinion to know before I tried it. Trial and error is not for everyone, ESPECIALLY new people with many questions and little knowledge.
I myself have a friend on my phone plan using my old Vivid and would like some guidance on ROMs. Apparently, there are no newer and functional sense ROMs and all the AOSP ROMs have complaints about volume issues and so on. I experience bad issues on CM with mine/his previous HTC Inspire and I don't want to find out the hard way, so it would be nice to hear opinions on the stability, speed, and functionality of all the AOSP ROMs without having to flash them all and find out I would have been better off stock.
Just saying. I don't want to be ridiculed for these questions, and nobody else should be either. Maybe there can be a special area of the forums for newbs where patient people can choose to help them specifically.

OK...
If you read the q&a section... Its full of people that can't read...
If you flash ROMs without reading... You'll be using the RUU to fix it...
I personally am tired of jackasses just flashing away and having no freaking clue what they are doing then coming on here and demanding answers...
If you can freakin read... All... YES ALL... The answers are in these forums...
And STOP DEFENDING STUPIDITY...
Read before you flash

Hence why the only ROM I have flashed was cm10.1 I am having in call volume issues and why I took to posting my first question and then this one. I am looking for a rom with at least sense 4.1 and jellybean with proper call volumes and working lte. I don't understand the hostilities I am sorry I do read the post but I don't have the money to replace my phone if I brick it or it becomes unresponsive or bricks and the only way some can truly learn is to read and then talk and ask questions to those who knows what they are doing

It is very hard to brick your phone anymore... As long as you keep partitions straight...
If the ROM was poison... It would be removed...

NO jelly bean build will have in call volume fixed. look in the development thread for sense 4.1 roms There is only one in there and one posted in the vivid general section. Everyone stop arguing and go about your business

you know everyone has asked questions at one point or another and that goes for devs as well, if not then they wouldn't be devs period, they would , just sit back and wait for someone else to create roms for htc vivid, htc amaze, samsung, etc,so please give the guy a break
I'm new to using these roms also and quite frankly agree with the OP in asking.
Some of the threads are messed up and crazy that just simply asking for ppls opinions as a whole is better with having civil and constructive answers.
But good to see that there are keyboard warriors in these forums as well.

I took to rooting/flashing a little different. My Vivid was my first smartphone ever (2nd phone period), but I had it unlocked, s-off'd, flashed a recovery and was running a custom ROM within 1 hour of un-packaging it. This was before any toolkit existed. I took a chance and learned by doing things. Over the last 2yrs I've read more on this forum than any normal person should, and yet still when I have a question, I either read some more or just say to hell with it and go for it and find out for myself. Modern phones are near impossible to brick but I will admit that although I never had to use it, the first thing I downloaded was the stock RUU. Always have a fallback and just bite the bullet. If you don't like the ROM, let the dev know your issues or research a new one. But most importantly, have fun with it! :good:
Hi, quick question and topic.
I've overcame a ton of comments primarily from last years release of the Samsung G730A S III Mini model claiming root to no root outcomes.
Is the community for devs still trying to open a port or a guide for a successful G730A root?
I ask this as I see that we were the only form of outcasted Mini users.
If that be said, what are the chances that KitKat could make for an easier root process?
Also, anyone know if a kdz flash is possible for this device?
I ask this after my first Android :sly: Thrill 4G was one of the outcasted phone that finally got a root with a kdz flash, the Thrill forum lost all support and anyone interested in new roms had to stay on a EU dedicated kdz that was promised a developer and rom set.
Basically stating that all users were stuck on an EU Baseband with 3G and sometimes 4G LTE if the rom provided even that.

Bumping!
I'm not gonna watch a phone die out because people won't go out of their way to help the G730A community!
There's someone hiding in the dark and not giving answers.
Now we just sit here and watch others gloat and boast about their root? Whenever someone even mentions G730A in a thread the thread just dies out of communication.

Yeah... like seriously! I got the phone when it came out in sept 2013 and been waiting ever since. I voided my warranty by letting an idiot friend drop my phone, with physical damage to the bezel of the phone, I can now root it and do whatever I want. I'm still waiting. But to be honest, I'd rather have the s4 for the bigger screen. But until then I am waiting for kitkat.
