After Gingerbread, will Sprint users be able to install custom ROMs that are currently available? Seems like I read someone was working on CM7 also.
Sent from my DROID Pro using XDA App
I thought that "roms" also had whatever version of the os that it was based on in the rom. Am I getting this confused with the kernel?
Say you take a stock rom and add and subtract and tweak everything to your liking. How it's done I don't know but you make that into a flashable zip and there's your rom.
You would need to root again because you will lose that with the update. Unless you have root, you cant install custom roms.

I knew that, but I'm just not sure if I'm stuck on stock Gingerbread or still able to load a custom ROM that's currently available (without doing the EA24 flash)

Any ROM you get from this forum will have installation instructions. This is the best place to start.
Gingerbread has not been officially released yet so I doubt you will find any ROMs based on it. Most custom ROMs are based on JPU and JPY (both FroYo), but they do have some Gingerbread elements installed.

Nice to see galaxy have recovery and 3 button mode.
Both are working on my galaxy.
Very easy to install custom rom.
But Xperia x10 need to root then install recovery and then custom rom.

Hey guys so I'm looking for the closest to stock rooted rom as to be honest.... I'm bored of the rest.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA Premium App
Then just flash a stock ROM and root it.
I think SuperOSR is close to stock. Has some CM Parts. No script a2sd--
Have you checked into any Modaco roms--he stays fairly stock also--
Oxygen2.2.2 very close to stock.

Blandroid, is stock with almost no changes. you can get it through Clockwork for sure and they just updated to 2.3.5.
Was wondering after flashing a new rom, do I have to flash radios?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
no you don't if your mobile data is working fine. Some rom devs suggest a radio that you should use but it is not needed if all is working
If you're flashing to a different release of Andriod, then yes. For example from 2.2 to 2.3.
I had a Froyo based Rom and flashed to a Gingerbread based, and my phone function didn't work until I flashed a new radio.
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using XDA App
Also, for AOSP roms, I believe it's been said that you don't need to change the radios as it won't give better signals or anything. There's some posts around if you go digging to find the answer.
I believe it's only necessary to flash radios for Sense roms.

If everything is working fine then you don't need to. Devs suggest you flash a new radio because they have tested their ROM to work best with a particular radio again not really required if all is working ok for you.
I just bought a captivate. I rooted and unlocked it ( now t- mobile) . When I go to rom manager to make a recovery it doesn't recognize my device. Only gives option for i9000, epic, fascinate. What do I need to do to make a backup/ recovery?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda premium
Unfortunately there isn't an official clockworkmod recovery for the captivate. You'll need to either flash a kernel with cwm already embedded, or manually load up cwm on your SD card. What stock ROM are you on atm?
Sent from my AOKP icy-glitched Captivate via Tapatalk 2
Sorry you sorta wrong on some things. There isn't official CWM for GB or Froyo. But there is for Eclair. Sounds like he is on GB at the moment. You are correct about having to flash a kernel with CWM in it.
I stand corrected...but yes unless your still on eclair or restore back to eclair, there isn't an official cwm

Yea, I am on GB 2.3.5 baseband UCKK4. I also have a vibrant.I am really surprised at how different the two phones are. I would like to put a custom rom on the cappy. What rom would you suggest? Kernel?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda premium
Suggesting ROMs ins't allow because you will most likely get arguing. Flash Corn Kernel and try out some custom stock ROMs if you don't know what you're doing. If you have an idea. I suggest ANY of the ICS ROMs
I would like a stable ICS rom. PM me with any suggestions.

vcremoveboot is the revert zip for voltage control, in case you have unstable settings applied at boot.

Hello. This update is directly from lg? Can it be rooted? Thank you.
Sorry for the confusion, would this update be for the lg thrill/p925? Or the o3d/p920?
Sent from my LG-P925 using xda premium
It is for the p925 thrill. It can be updated straight from lg. It's official. Not sure on the root. Hopefully there are still a couple devs around to at least root, deodex and zipalign the official. Though the stock is fantastic I would love to load google now on it. One of my favorite features on my nexus 7.

The same All in Ones still work to flash the bootloaders and recovery.
Guys,
I'm on xbsa vx3d (custom ROM based on v30b).
I have a quick question for people with official ROM:
Do you have fancy 4G symbol all the time? I.e. before I used to have 3G when I was on 3G and H for HDSA (or whatever it's called). Now I have 4G all the time....
I remember long time ago, when we just got gingerbread some guy made a patch to show actual speed - 3G or H. That was nice...
Thanks!

Hello. Thanks for your response. I can not seem to get this rooted. Which method did you use? Thank you
Sent from my LG-P925 using xda premium
In the same boat. No matter what method I use it won't root. Even the methods from the O3D thread won't work.

Flash wkpark's bootloader from the o3d threads. From there, flash recovery, and then flash a superuser zip.
If no one beats me to it, I can upload a deodexed stock ROM this weekend.

YES, the bootloaders you will flash are unlocked, making it able to have the custom recovery installed. Installed the new 4.0.4 on my Thrill last night but did not try to root. Will be rooting tonight, I'll let you know how it goes.

Ok. Thank you. Please let me know if you use oshacking's all in one tool.
Sent from my LG-P925 using xda premium
I did use his tool. It was a little easier to understand than the original. When it says wait five seconds, count to five then put your battery back in. If you do it correctly it will vibrate when you insert it. If not, then re start the procedure. From here you can install the WKparks bootloaders and custom recovery. I installed the TWRP recovery manager, I like it way better than CWM. Easier to use IMO. After you install the recovery boot into it and make a backup. Install the Su_Bbox zip file on your SD card then boot back into recovery and install the zip. Voila! You are now rooted. Or save yourself a step and put it on your SD card before that. Lol. I am now rooted. I hope this helps ya.
