Hi,
I found so much different informations about GPS in CM7 but nothing really worked, and I don't know what is correct!
In Modaco FR19 it worked like charm!
I have the latest CM7 (from 07.04.2011), so I have the lto.dat that came with the rom, and my gps.conf looks like:
NTP_SERVER=de.pool.ntp.org
the three XTRA_SERVER...
SUPL_HOST=supl.nokia.com
SUPL_PORT=7275
Can anyone help me please?
Thanks
Ignore your gps.conf, it isn't used by the O2X. Make sure you're running at least #65, as there is a GPS fix included.
Edit: I see you do have a build new enough for that, so good stuff. How many locations have you tried it in? Use GPS status too see how many sats are picked up and what signal strength they're at.
This won't contribute much...but..
I have the 07.03 CM7 (#66)and;
-in maps, the time it takes to get the signal varies from instantly to a few mins or so.
- in navigation it does not appear to work.
Hi,
So far I only tested it in one location (will test it now in different)
I don't get gps location neither in maps nor navigation!
GPS Status says 0 in view and 0 in use...
So there is nothing I can do, but wait for a fix from CM7?
There isn't likely to be a fix for your individual phone, considering it works for everyone else.
Have you tried re-flashing it? Tried wiping it?
Ok it's fixed, I cleared AGPS data and changed location from inside to outside and got a gps fix in 2 seconds...
Thanks guys

How do you clear the AGPS data?
Thanks!
download GPS Status from market
did you have problems with the gps-fix itself or with navigation?
i'm using CM7.1 and while CoPilot wasn't able to get a gps- fix, google maps navigation worked fine

I am on the nightly #73. Google navigation works ok, Sygic (latest trial from the market) also gets a solid fix most of the time.
Copilot 9 premium jumps to a location then sits there for some time and does not track the movement, then jumps again and does the same. I had it working ok on stock. My O2X is originally V10d UK version. Copilot 9 UK and Ireland.
Tried to use the tricks from other threads: running GPSTest with a GPS fix in the background and then switching to Copilot. Does not work. BTW a colleague with an SGS on stock also has exactly the same problem.

Hmmm I don't have any reboots with the current CM7 nightly, but I had a few of them on stock. I hated stock and I like CM7 a lot. Would be a pity to go back.
Regarding the GPS lock times.
Be PATIENT the first time you try to get the lock.
For me it took about 5 minutes to get the lock for the first time. After that initial lock it now takes under 10 seconds.
Try using GPS status from market to see the satellites.
Needless to say, do this outside for best signal
I'm running CM7 #73

Hi.
Try to download "FasterFix" from the market, then choose your region (Germany i think) and press go. the apk change some settings in the "gps.conf". Worked fine for me.
greetings,
i will give it a try, thank you
seems not to work for me :/ an other idea?
Got to Folder--Android-->startup.txt-->open it and change your gps zone to "de" It fix all your Problems.

Huuu, i don't think so, it isn't used in nand builds, and he is using one of them, not an SD build...
Have a look here, it helped me get a cold fix in under a minute, still a lot worse than with WM or WP7, but better than previously...

Do you get a sat fix in Google Maps?
The gps Almanach is only send every 12 minutes. It is needed to get a fix.
Read the wikipedia article on gps.
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/AGPS
Starting gps for the first time can take a while. Not only 12 minutes but longer if you are in an area with bad reception like inside a building or inside a car with tinted windows.
Go outside in an open area wait for 30minutes. If you don't get a sat fix by then, something is wrong.
Next time sat fix will be much faster because it only has to update the almanach not download the whole thing unless you haven't used it for a long time.
Sorry for kicking this old thread, but it seems silly to open a new thread for the same problem.
Did you ever get this fixed? I have GPS in all apps. Google Maps, all my weather apps, hell even in CoPilot Live 8 the local weather function works fine!
But for some reason it just won't get a signal in CoPilot... .
I waited for over an hour, nothing. I tried every gps.conf file out there.. Nothing. Well, I get an insanely fast lock in Maps... .
Since I received the Gingerbread OTA I have seen that when run gMaps it takes long time (minutes) to fix GPS. I think that is only for cold start, coz after fix if I close an restart the GPS it fixes in few seconds as normal.
I have tried with GPS Status but it seems everything OK.
Before Gingerbread it was really fast fixing both in cold and warm start.
Thx

I've also noticed the same problem. GPS seems to be much slower getting a fix on my position - even with a clear sky and at places it worked well before. Don't know if there's much I can do about it but hope for a patch from Google.
Seems that it's a very common issue, try to google " gingerbread slow gps fix"

Stock 2.3.3 ROM after OTA update, GPS only locked 1 out of 10 tries, and took a long time to do so. It is not even stable, and lost signal after a few minutes. I had looked everywhere including google forum, and there is no joy.
Finally read it somewhere to try GpsFix in the market and now GPS fixes in <10 seconds!
GPS-Fix Problem with Gingerbread
Hello,
i have the same problem after upgrading to Gingerbread 2.3.3. I have found this thread in the Google support forum (Search after this with Google):
GPS Navigation problems after Gingerbread update
and the issue is known aswell at Google issue tracking list (Search after this with Google):
NMEA Listener no longer working after upgrade to Gingerbread Issue ID 15500
The issue has been assigned medium priority over there. Maybe if more people can go there and star the issue, it will get up voted.
Sorry that i doesn't post the links directly, but its not permitted for me (not enough post so far)
The issue hasn't been assigned anything yet, the priority is 'medium' by default, once someone takes ownership of it, it should get a proper priority.
In the meantime you might like to try this:-

It works for me.
Hope it helps.

Yes, the GpsFix only worked for a few days, then the same problem surfaced again. So I followed the link and voila! now fast GPS fix again! Thanks!
Seems that 2.3.4 update fixed it...
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
I had the same problem on 2.3.4 and I fixed with the GPS Status, there is an option to clear all gps data. That worked for me, now the gps fix my position in a few seconds.
i used this
i have been using this [APP][ROOT] FasterFix [V1.5] - xda-developers. It needs root and also needs to be run once everytime i flash a nightly.
I get a fix in "seconds" rather than instantly. But i'm going to try that link posted above. You guys should check it out since nobody has mentioned it.
edit: on a second thought, i'd rather not try anything else because of the golden saying "if it ain't broke don't fix it" : )
That app will do nothing for the O2X, as it doesn't use the gps.conf file.
Anything it does is a placebo. CM7 now comes with a couple of GPS fixes, and that is probably the difference you're seeing.
Hi there, is there a way to get working the gps under cyanogen nightly build 5? I only can see few satellites but have no gps fix at all
thanks
It works OK for me.

tried 2 3 times before posting the thread it's not working, now i leaved the terminal in the garden with the navigator on to see if he catch the fix on his own
Same issue here. I've tried to redownload it. It was working fine with the stock ROM. I'm trying to research down a fix, but it seems to be hit and miss for people.
I've even reflashed the ROM, but to no avail.
solved! i've left the mobile in the garden with navigator turned on for about 10 mins.
after the first fix i turned off the phone and tried again, fix again in less 5 sec, great!
Okay guys, so I know that this question has been done to death but I really can't find anything about it.
I recently installed the most recent July 9th version of AOKP. Everything works fine except for my gps.
I have done "• If your GPS doesn't work after flashing, fastboot back to stock ICS, then flash this is CWM." this step in the AOKP ROM thread multiple times.
When I'm on stock, obviously the GPS works fine and can pick up satellites ect. However, when I run the GPS status app or the GPS test app now, it tells me the GPS is on, and the gps icon blinks in the status bar but no satellites are found. I have tried resetting GPS and getting Xtra data in the GPS status app. In the GPS test app, it tells me the GPS is on but the light is yellow in the box that says GPS status. I also have tried clearing and updating AGPS in this app.
Any ideas?
have the same questions , i use the CM and MIUI ,the GPS can not work ,but use the 4.1.1 the GPS works fine....
then i flashed the CM ang miui again ,the GPS can not work again ...
can not find a good way to solve it.

What you get is not really GPS data... If you get it only after flashing gapps, it indicates it is Google location service based on mobile network or WiFi...
Sent from my Atrix HD using xda app-developers app
I was outside when I was testing it.
It was the first time I needed GPS since I started using AOKP. I was fiddling with it in the parking lot for a while. When it didn't work, I went home and did what I said above and then sat in my car and tried to get it to work.

when i tested the GPS, the wifi and gprs were both off. Only the GPS is on .
Some of the gps files were tweaked in the past week or so (dev-team side). Later today I'll be building a new PAC with those updated files. If GPS breaks I'll see if I can't find a fix then. Might need a new GPS lib or some tweaking to the repos....can't really say anything concrete right now.
Bumping this thread again to see if anyone who has had this problem can help me. Just went back to stock after wiping everything. Made sure gps worked. Then I factory reset, cleared the two caches, and flashed AOKP and GAPPS.
GPS still does not work. No satellites picked up, just constant blinking up in the status bar.
Hello, I've tried everything to make it work, I installed the GPS apps and everything, even flashed two different roms and still not working.. Is it a kitkat problem?

I reverted to stock and it didn't work as well, tell me if it helps you please
I tried restarting my phone and that got the GPS to turn on. But it wouldnt turn off itself whenever you exit an app like Maps or a GPS status app. The icon will continue to flash on the tool bar for a while and eventually turn of by itself. If you try to activate the GPS again you need to restart your phone.
Im not sure if this is a 4.4.2 problem or a unlocked/rooted problem. Ill try to revert my phone back to stock tonight

my gps doesnt have that problem..download an app called gps status, it shows how many satellites are in the field, then click on agps reset, then download then reboot..some people report this method fixes their gps, but doesnt fix mine ..keep me informed
I'm having the same issue lately after sending my phone to service to fix camera... My gps doesn't want to fix satellites. I tried reverting to stock (keeping s-off and unlocked bootloader) installed a guru reset rom and applied otas but no way till now. Last chance will be flashing a ruu, didn't have time yet but I'll do it in a couple days. I will keep you guys informed, if anyone succeeds in fixing it, please post how you did it!
Gps status sometimes sees satellites but signal is too low and never grows. I even tried tweaking gps.conf file a lot but no way...
Sent from my HTC One using XDA Free mobile app
Update: i tried with a RUU zip with android 4.1.2 and applied otas till 4.3 (that was the last one i received) on one of this upgrades camera was unable to launch but on the next one it came back. And no way to get gps working with any one of these upgrades. Gps status sees a number of satellites (weird thing, after every new flash glonass satellites appear with some sort of signal -- snr <= 1.18 --, until i reset gps data and download new agps files, then they never come back until i flash some other version/rom) but never gets an acceptable signal enough to lock..
Really don't know what else to try, i think i will send back to service..

Any update on this?
Im having issues with my GPS as well. I use the ViperOne ROM (latest) with the ElementalX firmware. When I try to use Google Maps the following will happen:
1) GPS will find my location ok and calculate a route ok.
2) I start driving and the blue arrow in google maps does not move OR it thinks im on a different road than I actually am. When it thinks im on a different road the arrow may or may not move...more often than not it just stays still.
3) I have driven for over 10min hoping it will eventually start to work but it doesn't.
4) The only way I have got it to work is to pull over, stop nav, close maps and try again. Generally on the 2nd or 3rd try it will start to work correctly.
My GPS was working fine before I rooted and installed a custom ROM. I will try wiping and flashing ViperOne tonight and use the stock firmware instead of ElementalX. Will report back to see if this works.

Nop no good still. If anyone has a fix for this it would be appreciated!!!
Same issues here after sending in for repair. GPS sees about 18-20 satellites per the gps status apps, but only fixes on 3-4 with weak signals. Tried a few gps.conf tweaks which help but seems that they're just using more of the AGPS data and not actually the GPS chip.
EDIT: Have tried a few fresh wipes and different ROMs, GPE edition, etc. - all the same. This never happened in the past :/

I have tried updating the firmware to the latest version and different ROMS but that did not help. However I discovered that in google maps if I select the walk mode my navigation will work! Unfortunately thats no help as I need the car mode to work.
I installed GPS Status and it locks on to plenty of satellites so im not sure why Google Maps (or any nav apps) will not work.
I came to the same conclusion as you. It seems like the phone is using AGPS and not the GPS data.

I did a little research the other day ...I can't find the link but I remember most of it..
Apparently one of the Google+ and/or playstore silent background updates mess up gps on google maps for HTC One.
Using the 'GPS essentials' and 'Gps status' apps you can actually lock on to all the gps satellites fine.
Also using navigation, like you did...also locks on fine.
Its the standard google maps over view and a few other apps that use it (like my bus map app) that are affected.
One work around is apparently (didn't work for me though) going into the google settings app and tinkering with Google+ settings. turning it off or clearing it or something.
This is a software issue. I'm on untampered pure stock.
So I have resolved the GPS issue on my device. I tried a whole bunch of things so im not totally sure what fixed it. I:
Removed HTC Backup using root uninstaller
Using Faster GPS set my location and added the TRUE flag to AGPS_Enable
Using GPSFix I waited until it locked onto a satellite.
Rebooted my phone then tested with GPS Test. My phone locked onto about 8 satellites.
Tried Google maps navigation and it worked.
So far its been 3 days, 2 reboots and counting. Hopefully something similar works for you.
If you're rooted editing the GPS.conf file fixes it perfectly. The default setting are just totally crap

And GPS has stopped working again. What a pain.
Go here. This is how I fixed my HTC one. It works on all android phones. The default GPS.conf file is rubbish
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=953630
I tried the gps.conf file in that link. It seemed to be slightly better at first, locking onto 3 satellites with yellow SNR in GPS Test. But then I tried resetting and downloading the AGPS data with GPS Status and after it doesn't even detect satellites anymore.
Question to the posters in the thread. Have any of you dropped your phone before this started happening? I've gone through 2 M7s and the GPS stopped working properly after taking a nasty spill and have been unsuccessful in remedying the problem.

I have dropped my phone several times however it is in a protective case. My issue started out of the blue: one day it was working just fine, the next it was highly erratic...and has been since.
