RandomRapids!

Hello, my name is slawson [zfxp on IRC]
I don't have any programming skills nor do i desire to
So my way in giving back to the community is by a game im calling RandomRapids, RandomRapids is a game in which i make a post in rom dev's thread RANDOMLY!
So you're wondering why i'm posting in their threads?
Well in each post contains the rules as listed below, for one week a rapidshare account will be loaded with 100Rapids which = 35 GB/s of premium download.
The rapids will be reloaded every friday night at midnight EST, which makes the rapid point available by 5 A.M. EST.
apon refilling of rapids, the password will be changed for the next post.
RULES!
1. Do not change the password on the account, i will never do this again if someone changes the password, don't be the one to ruin this for everyone.
2. PLEASE KEEP THE LIMIT TO 1 DOWNLOAD PER PERSON! it's only fair, you're not the one's purchasing the rapids.
3. For any help you may need irc.totalirc.net #rapid
4. Please support the devs in the thread in which this is posted by donating to them.
5. I will take donations, if you donate you will be recognized in this thread.
6. Friday's are free-for-all download what you want!
If you make a donation the thread in which the randomrapids post was made will recieve 20% of that donation recieved.

Dropbox: Get double space (500MB) for (existing!) referrals and up to 16GB in total!

Hi,
I know that there are many people already using dropbox out there. With clients for Windows, Mac, iOS, Android and WinMo the software is simply awesome.
Most of you will know as well, that you can extend your free space by referring people. Usually you'll get 250 MB extra per referral. I just discovered however, that it's possible to double this extra space to 500 MB. This works for new referrals AND for already referred people!
The maximum free space thereby increases to great 16 GB!
What you have to:
1. You'll need a dropbox account. Don't have one yet? Sign up here: http://www.dropbox.com/referrals/NTI0MDk3ODM5
(Of course you don't need to use my reflink. You can simply visit the website and sign up. But firstly I'd really be thankful for using it and secondly you'll get another 250 MB if you use a reflink.)
2. You'll need an educational e-mail adress. It doesn't need to end with .edu though. Don't have one? Search for free educational e-mail adresses. If you understand german you could e.g. sign up with www.uni.de EDIT: uni.de adresses seem not to be accepted by dropbox anymore. Try looking for alternatives if you don't have an educational adress yet.
3. Log in to your existing dropbox account. Then enter https://www.dropbox.com/edu into your browser. On the website enter your (educational) e-mail and confirm the sent e-mail.
Done. Your free space per referral should now be doubled.

Yay...? Have you ever used dropbox? It's nothing like a simple file hosting service, it keeps a dedicated folder in explorer/nautilus/finder synced with their servers.

I think they actually utilize a pre-determined domain list now, as I tried to make use a californiacolleges.edu email address (which the side will allow anyone to make an email account) and it was not accepted, even though it is a .edu.

Thanks for the tip. Had to find my old college email, but doubled my space...cool.

I guess my school isn't on that list.

Get 10 posts. Gives you access to being able to post in the development/phone specific sub forums. It also gives you access to have signatures, post in the marketplace (where you sell phone and phone related things), post outside links, etc. Also, you may want to avoid this specific sub forum or just mainly DanWilson. He's dangerous and may get you banned/hack you. Also, people like it when you use the search feature at the top of the page instead of just posting in a sub forum. I'm not really against or for this. But many people get (VERY) angry. Sheesh. Have fun, and enjoy.

Well, you'd wanna use some lube if it is your first time, because going bareback might hurt a little for both parties.
You'd also wanna ease it in a little before going full force.
I'd give you more advice but I see PDL here and he's probably more experienced, what with his marriage to Dan and all that.

It's in the shadow folder, however there isn't a download yet.
The 'codename' for the Droid X is Cdma_Shadow.

I knew the dx was aka shadow but there was nothing in the folder. That's why I was asking if I was missing something. Thanks buddy. Guess il just check back now and again to see when it goes up

Yes this needs to be taken down if it isnt for Droid X, if it is, you should have a direct download link. Not a link to another site for downloads.
I think that's in the rules of the forums.

Ummm maybe because rootz doesn't have guidelines for posting... as for what you and the other guy said: I may have messed up the rule, but if you plan to bring something out, wait till it's actually out before you write a post saying " here it is" in the main post then under it saying "coming soon" that's misleading and hence why you get angry messages... Its like saying there is a ps3 here for free! Then saying well maybe tonight it'll be free. Of course you'll get backlash that's just common sense. Might I suggest that if you want to do this in the future put "coming soon" in the post title.
Now on to your direct download question. You should know by now that there are direct downloading (hosting sites) that allow you to have a list of several different files under 1 direct downloading page. IE 1 link then click on the file you want then instant download. No need for ftps or other miscellaneous things. And now for the several posts you have: that's what a developed does if they want to get stuff out to the masses. I've done much MUCH more than 27 threads in separate forums for much more popular things than android. Like for instance back in the old days when you had to El patches that were 150mb for counter-strike 7.5 beta.... aaahhh good old days.....

I was not being ride for christ sake! I simply asked if I was missing something. A second post saying coming implies something else is coming, not the rom that u said was here. If u doing like people asking where a rom that u said was here is, then don't post that its here. That seems pretty simple.

How many phone sections are created before they're actually out or become useful?
Is it so hard the way he set it up? Last I heard he/they hadn't got a donation in a long ass time so how or why would one go through the hassle to change it...it's free work you're using!

I know its free work, I'm not complaining about the work (mostly because there is no work done yet, and I haven't tried it out), All I'm saying is that there are rules and I thought that one of them was no 3rd party dl link; meaning no one can say "here's the download" then take someone to a 3rd party site so that you have to click on additional links for the download. That's both misleading & under-minded.
Same thing I was complaining about with his "here is a new rom" then right under it there was an additional post stating "well.... coming soonish...." If you don't mislead people you won't get 1/2 as many angry posters as there normally are when this kind of crap happens. Read rules & don't mislead people, that's all Im saying.

Linking to downloads that REQUIRE REGISTRATION is against the rules. Direct downloads (or nearly direct, in this case) are not.
XDA doesn't host large files like roms. How would any dev post anything without an external site?? How, exactly, do you classify MediaFire, et al.?
If you have a question about said rules or think someone is breaking them, how about PMing someone who knows them (read: moderator) before pissing off a major developer.
r2, I'll implore you to stick around. Please, PM me if you need anything. I also mod in TB if you run into this kind of junk over there.

thank you, but its been building for a while. there were 5 pages on rootz before i got a build up, 5 pages of discussion and friendly FAQ. even after the builds got messed up, not a single person got rude.
it hasnt just been here, though the guys here are what finally pushed me over the line. ive been dealing with this quite a lot here, and have been slowing down my post rate for a while. Maybe if xda can clean it act up ill be back, but i dont see it happening in the forseeable future.
all my work is still available, i just wont be posting it here.

Thanks for the clearification; but I wasn't referring to "3rd party websites" as sites like megaupload, megashare, etc, etc. I should of phrased it differently, what I should have used was "personal websites" because most of them usually require some kind of login. In this case no; so thanks again for clarifying.
As for pissing off the dev, that's a 2 edged sword, as I get why other people besides me are angry. It really is misleading to have a post in a section dedicated to ROM development/release and tell everyone "here it is" then post again saying coming soon. I don't really mind if it is coming soon, but it would have been nice to have him put something like "Coming soon" in the post title. Droid X doesn't have much development on XDA at all anymore. And since this is the second of 2 in the last month (and 1 rom before that in the last like 5) people are bound to freak out! Then to see something like what happened here, that will quickly turn into something like "wtf is this?"
We both had problems and now both problems are out in the open. We can both learn from it.

Fluid Simulation

Let me tell you all a story about a satisfying app called fluid simulation!
Its made by Pavel Dobryakov (not me!) in unity. With his special shaders and the ability to set it as a live wallpaper its a must for any android user out there.
It comes with many toggles to change the way the fluids look and behave.
It comes with a free version and a paid one, with the only difference being the amount of options.

The actual developer of this app doesn't want to use XDA since its just another way of communicating with his community. He just said link them to my discord, y'know?

Well there's the thing, generally speaking, the app section is supposed to be for members own work....not the work of others. Its there to post work and provide support, which sounds like he's not interested in. Ah well.
