This is just amazing to me. I have a wifi only xoom and have been having issues with Paypal. Basically, I get a "system error". After doing some research, it looks like they added some code that requires 3g.
Older versions work just fine, so I contacted Paypal about it.
After the normal "uninstall and reinstall" BS, I contacted them again.
They then replied with a link to a zip file containing the latest version of their software... not the APK, but the actual directories and jar files.
This included a note to "just modify the Manifest file" and add this code (which they listed).
Helpfully, they added me to their developers network.
I never said I was a developer or even knew how to code!!!
Hehe. I hope this doesn't catch on. I would hate to go to a mechanic to fix my car and just have him hand me a wrench and tell me to replace some part for him.
Haha, hooray for PayPal. First I was going to suggest checking if the zip wasn't actually the apk renamed.
If they want you to modify the manifest did they give you the source? Cause its binary encoded in the apk.
Maybe link us the files they sent? (For sh**s and giggles).

This is what they said
The latest version of our MPL addresses this issue. It can be located here: [ https://www.x.com/servlet/JiveServl.../PayPal_MPL_1-5_Android-Developer-Package.zip ]
In order to allow access via WIFI (As opposed to carrier access) simply add the following permission to your Android Manifest file: <uses-permission android:name="android.permission. ACCESS_WIFI_STATE"/>
This should solve your issues with the tablet device.

WTF are they giving this info and responsability to consumers is my question lol

oh deary me
Well, I got a response from them and I like it less.
Basically it was, sorry we thought you were a developer (then why did THEY sign me up as a developer?) and, oh yeah, by the way, Paypal does not support tablets.
Seriously.
At this point we are not officially supporting the PayPal app on tablet devices.
The Mobile team is looking into your issue though. I will let you know if they come back with any recommendations for your tablet device.

Can anyone post the new market version 1660 or point me to where I can get it. I believe this eneables t mobile charging
Vending.apk is a closed-source app, also known as WAREZ. No one will post that for you, and your thread will most likely be closed for requesting it. And what are you even talking about? "T-mobile charging?" Do you mean that you cant see paid apps in the market? if so, it has nothing to do with the version of vending.apk you have anyways. You need to search for 'Market Enabler" on google code and install that .apk and it will help you fake a provider so that paid apps will show up. No WAREZ necessary.

He's probably talking about t-mobile rolling out carrier billing on the market for their android devices. I'm actually curious as to how we could acquire this without using warez, seeing as how it's a carrier specific application upgrade. I don't really have a need for it, but good for t-mobile.
ps
@socawarrior101 I'm pretty sure you need a version beyond 1660, i have that version already and there's no option for carrier billing.

actually closed source apps arent warez. its basically apps that require payment. so you dont have to be dumbass and disrespectful. plus ALL ROMs HERE except for (cyanogen and non-working hero 2.1 roms) have google appz. so why dont u complain abt them being "warez"
and if u actually knew what was going on...tmobile is rolling out an upgrade to the market which enables the user to buy apps using 1) their google checkout account or 2)their tmobile account

You seem to have a habit of correcting people without having all the facts yourself ;-) Just because something's free of charge to obtain, doesn't mean you have the right to distribute it. Unless you are officially licsened by Google, then you are not allowed to distribute their closed source apps. Just because most devs do it doesn't mean they shouldn't.
From Wikipedia: ""Warez" refers primarily to copyrighted works traded in violation of copyright law." Sounds like warez to me.

is anyone going to post something useful or keep whining like little girls about someone elses useless post, just to add your 2 cents of uselessness?
Anyone at all have any info? I don't really need the carrier billing, but I like being up to date with everything android!
I tried going through cyanogen's thread but didn't get much info there.

trying to install...
I'm at work with no access to adb, but should be home within the hour. Hopefully adb will work.
I've tried using the terminal to install:
(system already set to read/write) su
install /sdcard/vending.apk /system/app/vending.apk
I get no errors through terminal (same thing with facebook ver. 111) but the icon disappears and I have no access to the market.
I've tried using the rooted browser, SUFBS, to just overwrite (copy & paste) the new market over the old one, but the same thing happens, my market icon disappears and I have no access.
Hopefully ADB will give me some better results...
You will have to edit the build.trout.prop file in /system (most likely, test keys need to be changed to the sholes version). Even if this gets it to start, the likelihood of a big issue (no paid apps, etc) is nontrivial.
I am using the new Android version of Line2, the VoIP product for making calls over a Wifi connection from Toktumi. It was released yesterday. I have Attn1's Froyo 2.2 FR008 with a rooted Aria.
The Aria is not specifically supported. However, the sound is good on my end but some people I called noted static.
Once the program is started, it runs in the background and you cannot "exit" the application short of force closing it. (The "menu" button which in many apps points to an "exit" function, does not provide one). Not a big deal.
If you have WiFI access and need to cut back on your phone minutes, it might be worth trying for about $10 a month.
Can you please upload the apk!

The Line2 app is available in the Android Market: search for "Line2" or available to download here: http://www.line2.com/download_android.html
Thanks!
Thanks for starting this thread! I'm the developer of the Line2 for Android and would love to hear feedback good or bad.
As for which phones are supported, we were very conservative with our list to include phones we've tested heavily. We have other phones that work well but haven't received the amount of testing we like.
One particular reason we're hesitant to just certify all phones is that we have found some hardware related issues on some devices such as the Evo.

I got a Pixel Qi 3G Adam tablet from Notion Ink a few weeks back and am unable to get Line2 to work over the 3G connection. It appears that 3G VoIP options are disabled by default and the Dialing tab appears to be missing. Wi-Fi calling works, and I can sign into my account over 3G, but I can not make or receive 3G calls. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I am using a G2 on T-Mobile and have experienced the exact same issue... no 3G/Cellular calling. I too am missing the Dialing tab in the settings so there is no way to tell Line2 to make or receive call. I have been around and around with Customer care but to no avail.

I'd really like to see a XAP archive made available. I have a personal archive of some apps that I've bought. The idea is to mitigate situations where an app is no longer available on the marketplace (for whatever reason - temporary misidentification by MS certifier techs, trademark dispute, developers not renewing their store accounts, etc) even though you purchased it and have a license for it.
One potential problem (and why I'm not posting my own collection here) is that it would enable installation of paid apps by people who didn't buy a license - piracy.
Regardless, is there some sort of archive to mitigate the above situation? Is there any effective way to do it without enabling pirating apps while respecting the rights of people who bought licenses?

Are you talking to me? That was my whole point.
Also, removing the app manifest makes the app completely not installable, which may prevent piracy but also renders the archived XAP file pretty useless...
To the OP, I don't know of any real way to do what you're asking, short of just making a personal collection and not sharing it.

Hey,
So I'm too cheap to pay the $5 registration fee, I'm wondering that now I've got root on the Chromecast if there's a way around it to launch custom applications from a URL directly or run a separate app database server locally that I can control? Has there been any previous work in this area?
Cheers,
My offer to help any aspiring developer get an app published still stands... It'll obviously require a little input from you, but nothing more revealing than URLs for your sender and receiver, which are bound to be accessible to the internet anyway.
But if you'd rather work with complete independence perhaps you could catch a url a receiver app uses and then overwrite your Chromecast's hosts file to redirect it to your own, personal, sweeter.

I think what he is saying in essence is it doesn't matter who does the registering the issue is it will never get approved because the app is targeting rooted devices....
Perhaps Team Eureka can help him out by adding his app to the custom Whitelist.

I think my original translation worked best, OP has root and is wondering if the Google whitelist can be circumvented. I re read it to be sure, but OP can make the final call.
Is there a custom whitelist? How does one do that? I'd hate to imagine trying to rewrite Google validation servers from scratch. But at least now you can create unpublished, hidden apps, so Google won't need to censor them for questionable stuff that would otherwise appear in that weird App Store they have going.

For the Team-Eureka whitelist, we will publish any app developers want published (at no charge obviously). The only issue is that only rooted devices will be able to use the application. For more information, PM me directly.

Be careful if somebody does post one. Your Social Security # is valuable to a hacker if you know what I mean
The developer needs to update for compatibility. That's all.
FWIW, I sent a complaint email to Ubisoft about AC4irates not being compatible with Nexus 6/Lollipop, basically told them "Hey, I know it's hard work, but seriously. Come on now." and got emails back with blah blah blah, but a week later it's now compatible and on my phone. Also, I really want Credit Karma back, too.
Never, never, never install bank related apps from unknown sources.
Check your DPI, that might be the issue. I am using a slim based ROM and mine is 493. I am able to install it just fine.
Edit: my apologies. Turns out I cannot install it. Weird, I did have it working before...
