[Q] Root drive copy permissions - Serendipity 6.4 - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have the Captivate with AT&T. I've installed the latest drivers and have tried connecting to 2 different computers; one running XP and the other running Windows 7.
I have only had this problem since flashing Serendipity 6.4. I'm trying to upgrade to Serendipity 7, but cannot get the update file to my root drive. I've tried multiple file managers (none will move the file from the sd card folder to the root folder). I've also tried multiple browsers, but the only one that has an option to change the download folder is Opera, and that won't go to the root.
Any ideas on how to get this to my root folder, or a fix to connect to the computer??

No need to put the file on the root " / " of the drive. Placing the file anywhere in the " /sdcard " wil work just fine.
Edit: in fact you actually need to put the file somewhere on /sdcard to flash with cwm
And if you ever need to place files on the " / " root, root explorer file manager from the market will work, but you will not want to put files directly on the root of the partition that you flash with cwm.

Please post in the ROM-specific sticky in Q&A. That's what they're there for.

Hi, you cannot access the files. =(
hello,
it's not clear if you want access file within android or just connecting your SD card to a computer.
Can you install apk file (i.e. downloaded from market place?)
i want to access files within android because i want to install apk files from memory card.
i tried to install apk files from market palce but after selecting any application, it shows downloading but doesnt finish download even after several minutes.
I have had similar problem, my 2GB sdcard was not full but I could non use at all, I formatted full FAT32 and put back the file. This solved the problem.
any luck
Are you saying that when you use something like OI file manager, you can not see any files on the memory card ?
i want to rom version of android2.2 too.

i dont have a solution for your problem, but if you have .apk files put it in the "Androidapps" Folder on your sdcard via PC and then run Android. It install automaticly if you start Android.

[q] no 'root' folder on sdcard on milestone

Hi,
I'm using a motorola milestone. My problem is that to apply any update or even root the phone (as it is recommended) i dont have a folder named 'root'. please help me. i want to install cm7.
thanks in advance.
There IS no folder called "root" on your SD card. The root of your SD card is what you see when you use memory card access to access to see your SDcard from a PC. It's called root as in the root of a tree. Think of all the folders/directories as branches of a tree. As you move into directories, you are moving away from root.
Assuming you've installed Openrecovery, you should have a folder called Openrecovery on your SD card. Inside that you should find one called update. It is in here that you need to put the CM7 update file that ends in .zip
Then, you boot into OpenRecovery (instructions will be on the page where you downloaded Openrecovery), and then you will have a menu option to apply updates...

incorrect path for CWM/Rom tool box

Hello!
I am trying to DL the newest update for liberty ROM,
Using tool box, it downloads to some folder in the internal memory. When I go through clockwork mod, it says the path is incorrect or file cant be found. Did I miss something? Did I need to set a specific path somewhere?
Thanks
I had same problem. Using root explorer I had to put .zip on the end of the file it downloaded then install it with clockwork. Worked fine after that.

Titanium backup update.zip question

Where is th update. Zip file located
I creaed update.Zip file but im not able to find it
Its located in /sdcard
i still not able to find it
when you create the update.zip file, and it's finished, the notification bar will have a notification about the path, check that. If it's not there, may be the zip was not created successfully.
/mnt/sdcard/update.zip
Was this solved? I can't find the file either.. it's not in the root of the sdcard, I've tried to create it twice and searched for it. Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks.
dont you get a notification of completion of the process and when you pull it down, you can see where its located ?
I'm having the same problem. If I look with root explorer, it exists on the root of the SD, but I can't see it in windows? Maybe it's a 2GB file limit thing or something?
but the update.zip is not more than 4MB

Yeah, I tried to make a smaller one, and it's still there but I can't see it in windows. I tried renaming it as well and that didn't work either.

Answering my own question - its definitely located in the root, just not visible in Windows no matter what I do. Use a root explorer to grab it and move it to a flash drive or remote network location, that's what I did and it worked great.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
I used wifi file transfer. I was able to download the file from there.
I had this problem. Try simply unplugging your phone from the USB cord, wait 5 seconds, then plug it back into your PC. Your PC should now see the update.zip.
One of common prob's with MTP !!
just do a search in root explorer, i got 4 locations of the same file on my galaxy s3 so you can find it in anyone of those.
and yes it is the same file in all of those locations, i even tried to change the name on one of them to check if all of them changed and they did
/data/media/0/update.zip
/mnt/sdcard/update.zip
/mnt/shell/emulated/0/update.zip
/storage/emulated/0/update.zip
Move the file out of the root directory and put it a folder, any folder. It will then show up on windows.

This worked for me! Although I used the stock file manager. After moving the update.zip to another location using file manager, I was able to see the file via Windows as well.
just change the file name and retry. worked for me
C:\> adb pull /sdcard/update.zip

accesses external sdcard through file manager?

I have done a search on the forum and couldn't find an answer. I have a rooted note 8 running Nougat 7.1.1. I have an older version of ES File Explorer (did use the newest version but rolled back because I didn't like it).
How can I access my external sdcard with a file explorer? I originally thought it was because of the newest ES File Explorer but when I rolled back I couldn't find it either. I can do a search for a specific file on the sdcard but I don't see it in a directory. So if I don't know the file name, I can't get to the external card. Any ideas?

Use the stock file manager the phone has ( My Files )
On main screen inside my files you can see internal or external storage options,
Choose external and look for the file, you may have to hit top right 3 dots for menu and turn on show hidden files if its a hidden file
